Cheap, clean, friendly, convenient. Neighborhood was a little sketchy and loud, but that's what you have to deal with if you're going to stay in this part of town. Overall very good value.
Conveniently located close to old town - which is lovely and a must see while you are there. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great! Our room was clean and comfortable. Was also within walking distance to Oktoberfest, which was our main reason for this visit.
Staff were amazing, room was excellent for what we needed, breakfast was great, area around the hotel is run down, but very close to city Center and Oktoberfest
Fine. Staff gave us a hard time for how we split our group among rooms.
No thanks
Excellent location between the hauptbahnhof and altstadt. All of the construction, which you have no control over. You may also want to check the elevator too. It has a bit of a bungy affect when stopping.
Hotel is clean. Nicely appointed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Very nice breakfast buffet. It is on a main street with a nearby bar. Noisy at night. Also, rooms are not air conditioned and no fan. We kept opening the door to get air circulation. It was hot when we were there so room was hot. I would stay there again if in Munich except maybe not in summertime.
Nice stay, Affordable, Good Location
We were looking for a hotel close to the main train station and local transit stops, and a clean, comfortable, and affordable room. We found it at Hotel Wallis. The staff were friendly and helpful – especially Pasqualina who worked the evening shift and who we saw most often. She answered questions about how to get to different places, a Bavarian restaurant, and things to see. It’s close to many shops, restaurants and transit. Just watch out for the bicyclists – there are many, they are everywhere, and they ride fast!
The front desk in the morning was very helpful and kind. Answered all our questions and offered suggestions.
Nice spot close to public transport
I like the location of the hotel
Stayed here for 2 nights for Oktoberfest, a short walk away, it was clean and the aircon was good. It was clean and the reception team friendly. I would stay here again but probably book direct. I guess with all hotels during Oktoberfest the price is high.
Dirty room
Cleanliness of room and specially walls was terrible
Most rooms no a/c bad service bad area
The hotel says that they have air conditioned but when I arrived there was no a/c and it was very hot. When I talked to the receptionist she said that the hotel has a/c not the rooms. I told her I paid for it but she said that I had to request, but the hotel was full. There was a little tiny fan in the closed. Also, I had to dodge ladies of the night and men loitering at the hotel door when I arrived at night.
Booked this Hotel but got another one
Booked this hotel but when I arrived was told I was down the street at Hotel President. So had to drag my luggage down the street to the other location. Hotel was dated and room wasn't like pictures. It was run down and area had lots homeless people. Walking downtown was close though.
Good hotel at a great price. Very friendly staff!
Nice hotel, and much better than expected for the price. A little dated but absolutely fine, staff super friendly, breakfast absolutely delicious. Location is great - a few people in these reviews made it sound like it was a poor location but it was absolutely fine, safe, lots of shops and businesses nearby, and only 10 mins walk to the Old Town. I very much recommend this place.
For the price it was ok. close to old town Munich. Neighborhood wasn't great (homeless, "rough" at night. Breakfast wasn't great.
Very well located. The hotel street is not the cleneast and very busy but once in the hotel you feel safe.
Good choice for Families
Great hotel, walkable to the old city where most of the touristy places are. Our quad room was large and comfortable. They have a/c in the rooms, which none of our other European lodging did. We were really grateful for that since it was hot out. The area seemed questionable at first, but we didn't have any issues.
Great stay. Very good location.
Great location. Few steps away from metro station. Plenty of food options. Rooms are clean. Shower is good.
The property sits five minutes from public transport and tourist attractions. Unfortunately, the area outside the hotel littered with broken glass, and trash, and panhandlers accost tourists on the streets.
No frills but clean and a great location for accessing public transportation and walking to the "old" city. Misunderstood what l purchased online and thought breakfast was included. Munich can be pricey so this kept the hotel from being a great bargain find. Still, it worked well for us in a pinch.
This hotel does not provide options for comfort and convenience.
Great stay at Munich!
Excellent Berchtesgaden Hotel
The best hotel I have stayed in in Berchtesgaden. its exceptional. Think its going to be popular. Staff are so attentative. Superb breakfast choice with best views ever whilst eating. Comfortable. Welcoming. I wanna go back.
Very good value for money. Pleasant staff. Nice breakfast spread for the price. Rooms of a basic standard. Very close to central Munich and metro. I would stay again.
We booked for Oktoberfest. Staff was super friendly and made the stay very nice. Rooms were adequate and clean. Location was perfect to both fairgrounds and Glockenspiel. Parking was safe and close by.
Room was small but very clean and quiet. Staff was friendly and the breakfast was great and very affordable.
A great hotel convienent for day trips as it is so close to the train station and day tour pick up location. Really nice hotel with large rooms and clean common areas. Good value for money.
It’s clean, good location, small rooms, no AC
Hotel dated, no AC in room which in summer is not great. Very clean rooms, location very central. Bathroom tiny, bedroom also small.
Centrally located. Short walk to Central train station. 5-10 min easy walk to Marienplatz. Good value for the room rates.
Comfortable and affordable
Friendly staff and clean rooms, very comfortable!
Hotel Wallis seemed fine. I was surprised at how quiet my room was. With the windows closed, the raucous noises from outside could barely be heard. The hotel was clean, my room was clean, the shower worked well, although the bathtub was very narrow. I didn't eat breakfast there, so I can't comment on that. I was on the 7th floor and with one small elevator, I often had to wait a while to use it to go up. I did hoof it up a few times, but that was a chore. The area around the hotel and that entire block had many drunks, a few homeless people, and litter and smashed beer bottles all over in the early morning 6:30 - 7:30 am. But city cleaning crews quickly cleaned up the messes. Good location for using public transportation and within walking distance of a few bier gartens.
Simple but quite fine, nice staff
Had a single room. Small but functional bed. Small balcony too. TV, fridge etc etc. Simple but fine...
Great room and location for price. I will say some sketchy stuff happens down by the street. People looking out to rob tourists
Great location, very ckean rooms and excellent breakfast
The location was fantastic, hotel was very good, breakfast was excellent, staffs were very helpful. There was actually nothing to complain. Overall was very good as per the hotel's star.
Reasonable hotel in walking distance to old town.
Hotel Wallis is a reasonable hotel in a decent location. Close enough to walk to attractions. The rooms were somewhat dated, but clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and kind.
Solid hotel for European standards. Nothing great. Went for Oktoberfest, it got the job done. Close to the fairgrounds, about a 15 minute walk. A 15 minute walk to the old town Munich. A 5 minute walk to the train station. Good location proximity wise but not in the nicest part of town. I didn't feel unsafe but it was many sex shops and gambling halls. Room was average size for a European hotel. No real amenities. Breakfast was not included and was very basic.
Staff was friendly. Laundry was reasonably priced if needed in comparison to other hotels. Room was a good size! Close to all we wanted to do and good restaurants and the glockenspiel near by!
Great location in central Munich- not too loud at all. Great buffet breakfast too!
Great Staff and great Location!
Great staff and great location!
Oktoberfest!
Very comfortable and near Marianplatz as the Subway.i would stay here again!
The location is perfect for a short stroll to either the Oktoberfest site or into the city centre.
Right on a main road so great locarion but very noisy. Nil air con so quite hot. Great brekkie buffet and clean.
Great location, super staff, comfortable room
The staff were really friendly and welcoming. They were helpful and kind during our stay. The room was really comfortable and clean. The blackout shutter really helped us all have a longer sleep on certain mornings. Despite what we read of other reviews on the area, we found it to be convenient, safe and friendly. The location was fantastic for getting to all parts of the city. Would definitely stay here again
The property was in a great location and the staff were lovely!
Wonderful staff. Quiet very nice room very clean modern staff very helpful.
Older hotel but good value for the money great location walking distance to museums and shops . If you are looking for a 5 star hotel this isn’t it and could be a problem for someone with disabilities it’s old but well kept and clean
Nice room, if a little small even for Europe. The street the hotel is on, and it's location made it very loud especially with the window open to ventilate. Convenient parking, and nice staff. Good breakfast. But the primary function of a hotel is providing a nice place to get a good night sleep, and the two nights we spent here were not exactly that.
Easily the best breakfast in a hotel I have experienced, far exceeding in quantity and variety anything in Uk USA,France,Holland and India I have Ever had.Bedroom was rather old fashioned but adequate, toilet was well wquipped and spotlessly clean.
Pasqualina, the receptionist, really made my stay. She is a delight. Pasqualina is friendly, flexible, personable, professional, knowledgeable and has a cute sense of humor. She really went out of her way to accommodate me, from giving directions, recommendations on activities, booking my bus, and getting me a glass of water when I asked her for scissors in order to open some over the counter medication for my headache. I liked the fact that the hotel is so close to Marienplatz. The hotel was simple, but clean. The lobby is a little dreary. At first sight, I was a little apprehensive, but as soon as I spoke to Pasquelina, I was reassured. The 9 euro breakfast was good. The breakfast nook is much warmer and inviting than the lobby. This was an inexpensive hotel, but not a cheap one. As I was only in Munich one night, it suited my needs. They let me store my bags after I checked out, but had several hours to wait for my bus out of town. Pasqualina was great!!! I can’t thank her enough.
Close to points of interest. Able to book day trips right at hotel. Pick up at hotel to take us to tour buses. Very clean room. Walking distance to some restaurants and fast food eateries. Helpful staff.
The location was both great ( so close th the attractions/ restaurants/ cafes/ pubs)and not the best as the streets in front were dirty and lots of people in need asking for help. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel was clean and the staff were quite friendly. They let us keep our bags there all day after we checked out so we didn’t have to vault everything around town during sightseeing.
You have to pay €15 for parking. It’s next door, but I thought it would be free since I chose the hotel due to the location and parking. Overall, good place to stay if you don’t have a car since it’s a busy street, many restaurants, and downtown, close to many attractions. The room was clean - but so hot - and the staff was great!
Hotel Wallis
The hotel room was very comfortable and spacious. I didn't feel safe venturing out at night due to the location being close to gentlemen clubs and plenty of beggars were down the street. Unfortutunately I cannot speak German so communication was difficult with some of the staff. It was an older property but well mentained. The hotel was within easy walk to the train station, and a train ride away from the main airport.
It would be nice if the booking included breakfast.
The staff was great allowing us early entry to our rooms and very friendly service. The hotel has a great location.
Good value staff friendly and helpful. Easy access to City centre
It was a great experience.
Great 3 Star Experience
Very close to the tourist attractions but also in a fun, slightly seedy (in a good way) part of town. I would recommend, especially in the winter months since there is no AC
Very disappointed in this hotel; I would give it 2 stars at best. The night we checked in, we tried to shower (a necessity after a long international flight), and found that only scalding hot water coming out of the shower (and sink). We called and visited the front desk repeatedly, it were met with an apathetic response and a suggestion that we wait “3 hours, or maybe until morning.” We were only there for one night, and needed a shower. I had more luck getting another guest to come to my room and verify the water was only scalding then getting the front desk clerk’s help. I asked if we could be moved to another room and he said he couldn’t do that because the hotel was full. I contacted the hotel subsequently and asked for a partial refund, and they refused. I am a travel agent, and definitely won’t be reocmmending this place. At breakfast the following morning, I had to quickly move my foot to avoid a roach that came skittering across the carpet. This, along with stains on the carpet in the room, impacted my cleanliness rating and the overall bad impression of the hotel. As a side note, the immediate area is not pleasant either. We encountered panhandlers, homeless people, and sex shops/strip clubs in the vicinity.
Not a safe area at night. Locals advised us not to venture out.
Questionable area
Walking distance to Octoberfest and public transportation but downside is that it was also close to strip clubs and other questionable establishments. Non smoking room but still smelled smoke coming from bathroom vents.
Comfortable and clean.
The hotel is located near the main touristic areas in Munich but the block it is located is not that good. Lot of strip clubs and noise. The room was clean and comfortable with a good view of the street. Attention was great.
Agree with other reviews : not in the best part of town. It is however close enough to the Hbf and the Oktoberfest grounds. Our room did have air conditioning, which was great considering we had to keep the windows closed to keep the noise out.
This hotel is in a shady area. Felt unsafe at times as there were people hanging out on the front stoop. The beds were not comfortable and the pillows were soooo thin. No air conditioning in the room so we had to open window and all you could smell was cigarette smoke from the people smoking on their balconies. Walls were thin and noise from other rooms and street level was loud. The hallways were always dark as well which was odd and uncomfortable. The hotel staff were lovely and nice. This hotel needs some major updates.
Functional, clean, easy to get around.
I stayed for 3 nights, it was functional, clean, staff were friendly enough. The area itself might not be to everyone's liking as there are erotic shops and such nearby. If that's not a problem for you it's easy to get around, plenty of stuff nearby. It wouldn't be the first choice if you are after a fancy hotel for a romantic weekend away but if you just want a room to come back to it'll do fine. I did not try the breakfast. Graveyard shift staff could do with better training. I had a early flight so was getting picked up at 4am. They person on shift tried to charge me an extraordinary large amount of money. I'm not sure how he'd reach that amount. He also seemed to not be able to tell that the room was already paid for (through Expedia) and had to ring somebody. He then suggested I write down and leave with him my credit card details so he could charge it later if needed. I did not do this.
Everything was good.
near city center
Walkable to everywhere, undergroud parking for 15 euros per night.
near everything
The reception is not very friendly. But the suite is very comfortable with A/C, near the train station and the city center, restaurants and markets around. there is a Nespresso coffee machine in the room, but you have to pay for the capsules. There is an underground parking for 15 euros per night, but if you want to park a little bit longer after check-out, they will charge you a half day.
No Air Conditioning!!
No AC and when it’s 85+ outside, that’s pretty uncomfortable. We had a hard time sleeping because of the hot temps.
Hotel Wallis Stay
Noisy at night till wee hours of the morning otherwise location is good. Room is about small.
Hotel Relatively close to town center
The location isn’t the best or seem like the safest area, but for the price it is worth it.
Great location, good 3 star hotel
George at the reception was amazing! Thanks Old fashion 3star hotel, good location and good value
Good location, friendly staff, comfortable beds.
Tight parking area
Hotel is in a busy street, they have a parking garage next to the entrance but not very visible. Check in was easy, friendly staff and speaks English. Breakfast was well prepared, very nice choices even for brunch. The location is ideal for Marianplatz, near the subway and restaurants.
Lovely hotel within walking distance of the town center
Lovely hotel with super helpful staff minutes away from the center of Munich. The breakfast selection is excellent and our room was clean and very efficient. I recommend it and would stay here again myself.
Very centrally situated near to all main attractio
Very helpful staff, small room but quiet and clean. Very good breakfast Unfortunately it’s not in a great area and can seem uncomfortable walking to the hotel at night.
As convenient as it gets
Best thing about Hotel Wallis is its central location in Munich, easy walking distance even with a suitcase from the S-bahn and a short walk from the Hautbanhopf (Central railway station, where all the trains go). Short walk from the west end of Marienplatz. As I was there for a business trip, it was super easy to get to my office. It's an older hotel, and while the location is incredibly convenient, the neighborhood is not pleasing. e.g. homeless people around the corner, nudie shops across the street. But it's Munich, so it still feels safe even late at night. I had to wear ear plugs at night because of a noisy vent or heating system outside my room. Recommended for anyone who wants super easy access to the trains. Not recommended for anyone who's squeamish about their immediate surroundings. There are much nicer neighborhoods in Munich.
Centric hotel in a noisy street
The hotel is in a centric neighbourhood but the street is a little bit noise and not very comfy if you are arriving at night (lots of bars, casinos, etc). We went for the Oktoberfest and was fine for what we was expected. The room as clean and the hotel was near to karlplatz station, walking distance to marienplatz.
Easy check in, held luggage and delivered to the room.
Perfect location for Oktoberfest
The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The room was standard and perfectly quiet. We were able to sleep with the windows open during Oktoberfest! The area is a bit seedy, so it might not be a good choice for children. It was perfect for us though.
Had to log into WiFi every couple hrs or would log you off. Could only have certain amount of devices on. Staff did not tell you about how to close the blinds. No air condition. Can’t sleep with window open on account of police sirens and people screaming half the night.
Extremely well situated near Oktoberfest
Nice hotel, the staff and facilities were great. I found it to be a great value for the price and right by Oktoberfest.
Mostly OK; easy walk to train, Metro, & key sites.
I might stay here again in cool weather. Mostly it was fine; the staff was all very sweet except for 2 front desk people. Upon check-in to our room, I realized there was no AC, which was my only search requirement. Apparently there was a computer glich? The lady at the front desk that day was quite rude, but another lady offered to bring up a second fan for us which she did and we were very grateful. We have a son with a medical condition that we were concerned about. Rick Steves, a well-known travel writer in the States, recommends several hotels in this area (not this one). He correctly reports that this area around the train station seems seedy but it's really fine as long as you're not out late "looking for trouble." We passed 4 strip clubs, a few sex shops and casinos in the 3 blocks from the train station to the hotel. But Steve is correct: ignore them. Also across from our hotel was a hooka bar and Mexican restaurant with all day happy hour that both close at 3am and are quite loud. This didn't bother me. With jet lag and warm evenings, I enjoyed watching the nightlife out our window. In the mornings, I was so impressed with the street cleaning. Two men walked down the street sweeping out gutters, under and around dumpsters. They picked up trash by hand. Hotel staff left Gummy Bears on our pillows. Must try LaVecchia Masseria Italian restaurant nearby! Lovely courtyard, great food! Grocery, pharmacy also very close. Friendly shopkeepers and locals.
It is 2017. How do you not have air conditioning? Rooms are tiny. Single beds. I felt like I was in a dorm room. Breakfast was pretty good. Great service from the blonde woman behind the desk, less than average for the brunette. The surrounding area is dirty, strip clubs, locals are a mix of the entire Middle East, hookas and cigarette smoke everywhere. Poor Germany.
Handy to train station. Would not want to come back late at night as not the best of areas. Could do with air conditioning. Glad we had a fan though.
Perfect Holiday
Wonderful staff! Great proximity to everything. Sparkling clean rooms. Delicious breakfasts. Stayed with my family for 10 nights.
Only a fan. No a/c. Busy loud area, so couldn't leave the window open at night. There are much nicer area's than this.
Good stay for shopping and sightseeing
Location of hotel is very good and close to the centre. However, it was quite noisy surroundings.
Average stay. Good location.
It was near the roadside. Slightly noisy with the traffic.
Great stay!
The staff was super helpful, the room was neat and clean . The location was awesome, close to the Marien Platz and to the S bahn . At night the area gets a bit lively, but our room was on the back so we could barely hear a thing. I would definitely stay here again!
It's such an old ugly hotel
The place is well located, quite convenient but there ia plenty of better options around. The place is old, ugly, and even though it's near to the stations and central, it was in a sketchy street. I won't go back to that hotel.
Close to the main train station
The rooms were so comfortable. We had a family room, and it was really two adjoining rooms with a bit of a balcony. Too cold to use it November, but it was nice for a view. Very comfortable and roomy enough for 3 adult travelers.
Poor facilities, bad section of town. Many homeless in the area. No parking!
Great Location, Terrible place.
The location amazing but conditions of the Hotel Terrible, no A/C? No what you expect from the price you pay. I super dirty carpet in the room, matress that seems to be there since the Hotel was opened 80 years ago. Couldn't sleep on my entire stay in between how uncomfortable was the bed and the heat of the room, even though we left the window/door open was not enough.
Amazing location
Close to everything, especially Theresienwiese. Nice parking spot. Very helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Only issue we had was the neighbours smoking on the balcony prevented some use of our balcony.
Great place for a great price in a great area
