Hotel is classic older property that is well maintained, attractive and well located next to the central plaza. However, it is unheated so that in the colder months the rooms are cold. We were able to switch from an unheated room to one that had a small electric heater which helped. The included breakfast is very good.
A pleasant hotel
Needs upgrading but generally a good hotel within the city. Location was excellent and the breakfast was good. We stayed at a busy time but staff were very accomadating
Beautiful place Hermoso lugar una joya de antigüedad y con todo el servicio moderno, todo el personal excelente, great service, great food an cheap y muy económico I will go back voy a regresar la suit hermosa vista beautiful view I love it me encantó. Thank you muchas gracias!
Loved It!
Checking in was both smooth and fast. Staff were very friendly from front desk to waiters & housekeeping. Room was clean and comfortable. Room was well appointed. Room and washroom amenities were more than. adequate. For a hotel of this age it has been well maintained. kudos to the staff & management. Location is fantastic at Central Park. Walking distance to many eateries and other attractions. Highly Recommended!
The staff and clients were friendly, greeting regularly. Breakfast was good with their preparations and variations. Be sure to bring your tickets submitted for you upon checking in when showing up for meals.
The staff didn’t have my reservation when I got there—they acted surprised. When I got to my room it was clean and I was amazed at how hot the water was. I loved the square nearby. At night you can hear all the people yelling in the street and it was hard to sleep. I also used the do not disturb door hanger and they ignored it—I had wet clothes hanging from getting rained on and they put them to the side on a chair, which was really obnoxious because I was trying to dry them. I got food from the restaurant and it was disappointing. Top reason I picked it was for safety, but probably not needed, Xela felt safe. They do close the doors at night and have to ring you in so that was a nice feature. Service was ok, everything seemed to be off a bit or slow—I asked for help with bags upon check out and I ended up carrying them myself because they took so long. They mentioned in room massages—which is a local woman comes to your room; I got a massage and she was good, but just a normal massage, no deep tissue or anything. She was very prompt and nice and after traveling for hours and doing the Pacaya volcano it was very much needed.
Great place great location
Highly recommended
No AC available in the room and poor ventilation, other than that excellent place to stay in front of Central Park/dowtown Xela. Also, breakfast was included and they had really good options
A bit on the expensive side. No elevator. But you pay for convenience of location I guess.
Pretty good place to stay everyone there is nice and happy
Very nice hotel. No elevator so we had to stay on the level closest to the cages birds that started chirping very early each morning. Not a fancy hotel, but still very clean and accommodating.
Excellent service from the hotel staff
The only thing I didn't like was that on Expedia when I registered and booked the hotel I paid one amount for a family room for 5 people and it turns out that when I arrived at the hotel the reception told me that I had to pay extra money because the price was an Expedia problem. not from the hotel and cost was valid only for 3 people, which in the Expedia information said it was available for 5 people. The reception denied it and I had to pay extra for one more person and it didn't seem fair to me that they would lie to the client that way. from Expedia other than that they gives me an room next to the party event which was done at 12 midnight those two things bothered me other then that everything was awesome.
Ol
Place was very clean and quiet. Staff was great.
Everything was perfect
Decent hotel when staying in Xela. Very friendly staff. Ok breakfast. Rooms are outdated and could benefit from general updates. The caged birds got to me, some had no plants or shade and seemed miserable.
This is my favourite HOTEL in XELAJU FOR OVER 50 YEARS.
Pensión Bonifaz is a beautiful place located in the heart of the historic town of Xela or Quetzaltenango. The hotel has a charm of a historic building that matches the town. The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant offers delicious breakfast.
Really cool building and great restaurant. The location is perfect for sightseeing.
Excellent service
Lots of noice outside the room
Gracias
Nice hotel It was quiet, very clean room, delicious breakfast, good service, I recommend it.
Pensión Bonifaz is a very nice hotel located right in central square which is beautiful specially at night. There are nice restaurants nearby.
Really amazing stay, I loved everything. The staff is kind, there is so much history, the prices are good value, and they also include breakfast. But the best is the generous checkout policy at 1pm for everyone. :)
Lovely stay in Xela
Accommodating & helpful staff. Clean room with a very comfy bed. Great location.
The only problem was that they didn’t give me a choice to get a room in the first floor and my sister is handicapped and to many stairs.
The personnel is very attentive and friendly. Especially in the dinning room!
The building in itself has age, it's not made for wheelchairs nor anyone who can't climb 70 steps depending the floor they are located at. It is a 70-80 year old original hotel and it shows on many features, however, the staff, the professionalism, the environment etc all make up for that if you can, I had a wonderful stay!
Old fashion charm. Friendly staff. Great place to stay while in Quetzaltenango Guatemala.
Close to the park and had a great dinning experience!
So conveniently located
Staff super friendly very clean at the same time vintage style
We have stay 2 twice during our July and October trip people there are so honest and friendly
Really convenient to the city, Rooms adjacent to the courtyard can be loud.
Es un lugar acogedor, como en familia. Super precios
The only thing we didn’t like is that other guesses aren’t quite at 5 am you can hears people talking loud from the hallway sounds like they are dragging chair from the upper Suites above you other then that is a great place
The place was very nice staff very friendly
there is a risk of accidents because the parking lot is too narrow and limited offer for breakfast
Nice and clean friendly
Old historical building located in front of city central park. Well preserved, clean, friendly staff and great location.
It was nice. An experiment of old school luxury.
It was an okay place. Looks like it was luxurious back in the 70s perhaps. But it has not been modernized. No ac/heater in the rooms. The TVs have channels that look fussy. No clear picture.
Clean Safe And Very Friendly Staff.. Met The Owner's Of The Property And They Are Great. Typically Authentic Guatemalan Food.. 5 StarZ.
We have stayed here before and the hotel is centered on a busy street that allows access to restaurants and sites. Very walkable and there is a park across the street that is safe and fun to enjoy.
Great Staff. Very clean. Good location. Great Brunch. Some noise at night from nearby events/parties, but not too bad. Would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful and very fitting for the area of Quetzaltenango
Breakfast can improve.
A little disappointing
Elegant and historic hotel with sparse, mediocre rooms. (at least ours was!) A little disappointing - No view, poor ventilation, door deadbolt not functioning, no coffee machine, no do not disturb hanger, poor lighting, noisey at night. (Saturday) Very basic chapin breakfast. Advertised Buffet breakfast not included with room. We expected more at this price point!
Great Place to stay. One of the best hotels on the area we give then a 5 stars.
Great staff. Friendly atmosphere close to everything. Great tasting food at the restaurant with many dining options.
This is such a wonderful place to stay. Make sure to bring your won wall plug adaptor for 2-pronged outlets only.
Great hotel, perhaps the best in Xela, certainly,
Great hotel. There was a slight musty smell upon entering, but it passed quickly. The bathroom was big and spacious. We had a junior suite and it gave us a bit more room to feel comfortable. The bed was a king and was very comfortable. We were there in January, and Xela was very cold at night, but we had three blankets to keep us warm. The breakfast was included and was filling. The desk manager gave us a room with a terrific view of the beautiful main plaza of Quetzaltenango. Would go back and stay here again. The hotel is one of the grand, older hotels of Xela, highly recommended.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here. We chose it because it’s right on Xela’s Parque Central and easy walking distance to many restaurants. They property is a bit worn, with peeling paint in some places. The room was clean and comfortable and we especially liked the hardwood floors—it had some charm. I enjoyed a swim in the pool in the morning, though it would be nice if it opened earlier than 8am. And please make towels available in the pool area. There was a bathtub and I looked forward to a relaxing bath. Unfortunately the water was lukewarm in the evening. In the morning the hot water was fine. I would come back.
Nice staff. Just one small thing... my sister uses wheelchair... no elevator.
I haven't been in the hotel very much.
Nice hotel and the best area
Mil gracias!
Very good service.
The staff is super friendly, the rooms were clean and beautiful!
Excellent service
My reservation was for 4 people and the room show it was for 5 but I was allowed only 3 person in the room I had to pay and extra room for 1 person. Very disappointed.
Great location!
Location
Way too noisy and too cold.
Nice, quaint, comfortable hotel right in Quetzaltenango center.
BAD EXPERIENCE
Not so good, the check in was one of the worst, the lady at front desk rude and very unprofessional she did not have my reservation, after like 15 minutes waiting she finally called her boss I guess, and they found my reservation number etc. at night they just shut off the water i don't know why. so not water at night be aware. never again.
Close to the park
Clean place, close to the park.
I was led to believe that this was the best hotel in Quetzaltenango. Perhaps that’s true. It was in the perfect location but it felt dirty which always puts me off.
Beautiful but didn´t get comfortable sleeping time
The hotel is very nice; I stayed at a secod floor room with a nice view to the central park of Quetzaltenango. My dislike comes from the noise that came into the room from the cars honking, and also from the inside of the hotel from parkeets and other loud birds that are caged a couple of meters right out of the room´s door.
It is a very old Hotel, nice and very good ubication but that is it, a lot of noise in late hours, the breaakfast star srrving very late... at the end a not so good experience
I liked the style of the hotel. It was built in the 30’s and it still has that charm
The hotel is meticulously kept. The service was very friendly. beautiful location in the heart of Quezaltenango. The rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. The only thing we were a little dissappointed with was the cool temperature of the pool. Otherwise, we loved everything about our stay and will highly recommend it to friends and family.
Great location. Signature hotel in Xela. Walking distance to the central park and cathedral
I rented the presidential Room, but I couldn't sleep well due to a lot of noise in the roof, seems like they have a lot of pigeons at the roof making a lot of noise at night.
A lot of noise all night, a very simple breakfast, not a nice bed
Excellent facilities and service. Pleasant and helpful staff helped these language challenged gringos.
Staff unbelievably attentive and old school. Really like time travel, felt I was in Ubico’s Guatemala. Wonderful breakfasts, included with room. Not a modern fancy American hotel, but an old fashioned Guatemalan hotel still frequented by middle class Guatemalans.
Top notch hotel.
Very nice, modern hotel! Friendly service, clean, pleasant with larger rooms. It is in hotel, nightclub area so there is some outside noise that filters in.
An old building, stinks, nobody speaks english, not even in the reception, the food was uneatable. The location was good.
Old-world style hotel and experience in a great location in downtown Xela. Today, Bonifaz is not the fanciest hotel in Xela (as it used to be 20yrs ago), but everything was well kept up, and super-clean - - even for those with OCD like the Mrs. The staff at the front desk was perhaps the friendliest I have seen in ages. They allowed us to modify our reservation and in the end we had to leave a day early, and they did not charge for the extra night or even a penalty! We couldn't believe it.
Nice Hotel Very Clean Staff exelent very proffecional and friendly
The webpage says they do accept pets! When we arrived they said no and it didn't matter to them I showed them the fact or that I was accompanied by two elderly people at 9:00 pm. I even questioned the hotel 3 days prior arrival and said nothing. It was pretty hard to find an acceptable hotel at that time in the night. I think they should at least help us find an accomodation. Poor service.
Friendly staff, made us feel welcomed and made the checking in and out process great. Food was excellent and the room was very spacious and clean.
Lovely traditional hotel in tpwn center
Bonifaz is a hotel with colonial character and a very strong sense of place. Right on the main plaza the location provides excellent access to the city center. Parking and navigating access to the hotel using a private vehicle is a challenge due to narrow blind corners.
Near central park
It is between central park and many amenities, on all this holiday week
Good option to rest and work (workshops)
Great place for resting. Facilities are in good condition. Service is excellent.
Friends
The hotel is an old building no elevator available so you have to go up the stairs by your own . The breakfast service is very good
Great location and nicest hotel in Xela - there is no heating in the hotel so our room was freezing !!
Bien ubicada la propiedad
Está bien
