Michael was amazing. Very friendly and helpful. Got our room ready early after a long flight. Would totally recommend this place.
Thought the hotel was overlooking the canal but was put across street in hotel with no view. Not good for people with mobility issues as room was up three flights of steep stairs.
.
It’s good
Я взял самую дешёвую комнату на ночь не она находилась в четвёртом этаже по винтовой лестнице ни о чём не жалею.
Room was a lot smaller than what was pictured, but did the job for a one night stay.
Tiny room
Extremely small room. No space to even open your luggage. I’m sure Amsterdam prison cells are more spacious. Wifi not great. Staff very friendly. Great location.
The location is perfect, close to Central Station, canal tours, loads of food, drink and shopping. The breakfast options are excellent. The rooms are small, but that matches the prices. The service could be improved (more attentive) which is why I didnt rate full stars.
It was very proper and neat concerns the look inside. Only the stairs was too steep.
Central and easy access to walk or public transportation.
Nice stay (y)
Really enjoyed this hotel. The bar downstairs is nice. I saw the same staff there over my stay and they are very friendly. I recommend getting a canal view room for both the view and also it’s a little quieter since the room doesn’t sit right on the street.
Comfortable beds, lovely and warm room, clean bathroom. Our room overlooked the canal and was really pretty. Walked everywhere and tram stops close by.
Very close to the center and walkable around attractiions
Pleasant room with good view overlooking a canal basin. Bathroom OK but a little cramped.
Great place however - little congested and not a great facility but very convenient for going around the city
Very close to train station and walkable to basically all points of interest. Has some tight awkward staircases but I guess that's Europe. Room itself was small but clean.
Amsterdam!!
Great location. Bar area was amazing
Great location, steep stairs and lift was out of order first night. We were on the 4th floor and i struggled as I am in my 60s. We thought it was quite pricey for what you get. Had to ask for another pillow as only given one each. Beautiful view.
Everything was great!
The people were amazing and very helpful and friendly We booked a double and the room was small, but comfortable. It had what we needed to sleep and get ready.
Convenient location
Lots to see and do in area. Very close to train station
Booked a twin room canal view. For the RLD area it is was very quiet facing the canal . Even slept with the window open. Bar is really nice. Staff very friendly and we were able to access our room early as it was ready. I've stayed Ina few places around there and this was the best one. Will be back.
Property is nice and well-located and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping was quite noisy in the morning and made it difficult to relax in the room. Room was small but clean and cozy. Took off one star because the shower kept flooding and it made entering the bathroom super unpleasant.
It was close to everything. Good location. Stairs leading up to room were scary steep but understood it’s an old building. Kinda no frills but fair condition.
On the water hotel
The hotel is right along the canal, and absolutely stunning. It was above a bar and that's where we had to check in. Within walking distance from the train station too.
They give us a beautiful view room, and for us very close to the train station.
Centrally located. Lots of restaurants nearby.
Aggressive housekeeping
Housekeeping was really aggressive at 9:30 someone was already opening our door no knock at 10 they opened the room and we where on our way out but waiting in the room pissed until we were out the door. When we hit the elevator looked at our phone it was 10:01am Uncalled rudeness
The fact that the bar is in the lobby make even better i recommend it
Very nice.
The rooms are small but we knew that in advance. The staff are amazing , so was the breakfast. Incredible central area
Nothing but the best experience in this hotel from the locations, restaurants near by, their bar is so cozy when you just wanna chill. We had room with canal view and it’s perfect. The receptionist, housekeeping, bartender. They where all nice. We went to paris for the weekend and they let us leave our luggage for free. Thank you I don’t know about the bad review. If u worry about the noise then don’t booked it. Your in the central of Amsterdam the city won’t adjust for you. Thank you old quarter for your hospitality.
My stay at Hotel Old Quarter was very disappointing. The room was clean but it smelled bad. It was incredibly noisy outside, making it hard to get any rest. The property condition and facilities were in poor shape, and the room and stairs were uncomfortably small.. I stayed in the not so pretty building in front of the hotel (which was not specified when I booked my room). It’s looks nothing like the pictures in their website! 😔 On the good side. It’s very close and convenient for transportation. At a walkable distance from the train stations and piers. So if you don’t have a problem with noisiness and small spaces, you should be fine for the price.
We stayed twice in one week - the 1st night was great. Beautiful views. Then came back and stayed a week later because we liked it so much. A nice room but we had twin beds instead of a queen and the bathroom smelled bad. But other then that it was wonderful!
Staff were very helpful and knew lots about the local area all spoke excellent English would defo stay again
Property was in a great spot to get around easily and well priced for distance to the train station. The stairs are a killer with baggage so pack light! We had a street facing room which can get noisy so ask for a canal one for views and a little quiet. Overall great, when in Amsterdam it’s about absorbing it all, and at this hotel you are right in the heart of it!
In a bind
Small basic rooms but clean. Access is difficult and cannot have large or heavy luggages because the stair case is steep, narrow, and thight turning (nothing to code). Noisy area but shutted windows can cut the noise. Walls and ceiling paper thin. Location is good depending on your purpose. Plenty of bar and restaurants around.
Very friendly staff, great location, quirky hotel with a lovely cosy bar/ cafe. Great breakfast!!
Low budget hotel in noisy party area of Amsterdam. Streets are dirty every morning. Clean hotel witb basic amenities. Staff are friendly but not helpful with directions. Close to train station and good restaurants. Very steep stairs to rooms.
The reception staff are utterly amazing, had an issue on Fri night and they could not have been more helpful, highly recommended.
I recently stayed at this hotel booked through Expedia, and it was absolutely fantastic! The location couldn’t be better—close to everything you’d want to see and do in Amsterdam. Whether you're into sightseeing, shopping, or dining out, everything is just a short walk or ride away. The vibe of the hotel is spot-on, with a modern yet cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always ready with great tips for local spots. My room was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam. Great value, perfect location, and a wonderful experience all around.
You need to judge this place by comparable hotels in the area. It is a charming if old hotel with a friendly staff. The rooms with private bath are cramped some but clean and the shower was great. Unless you want to pay double they will all be small rooms in this the most touristy area in the center, with narrow stairs (but elevator to most floors) and not enough help during peak checkin time. Staff was overwhelmed at times and only one person deep at check-in, but the guy who wanted to argue for 15 minutes about the city tax is not their fault. The city tax is also not their fault. I do fault Expedia for burying that tax in my receipt when I’m used to having all the fees up front and listed clearly in the reservation. Location is convenient to train, boat tours, and palace.
Cozy pub Lovely staff Great location No complaints
If you are looking for an authentic red light district experience, this is it. There was a street noise and smells for both evenings were were there of people partying and smoking etc. So do not recommend if you are wanting a quiet night in to explore the city early in the morning. In contrast if you are there for the night-life then this is your place as it is super convenient and handy to everything in the red light district.
I stayed here as a last minute booking as my pre-booked hotel cancelled. The staff are super friendly, they were all very welcoming, and the bar and restaurant area is really nice with an old school comfortable pub style vibe. The location is perfect for all of the sites, you are just 5 mins walk from the train station and the main shopping and restaurant areas. The room I had was very small and basic but clean and had everything I needed for a quick two night stay. For a budget hotel right in the centre of Amsterdam this is ideal and I’d stay there again if I was on a budget.
The sights and sounds were intoxicating
Super friendly staff! When my flights delayed me over 14 hours and I didn’t read all of the rules on not checking in when planned. Even when you paid for the whole trip 4 months in advance. I didn’t call like I was supposed too. The front desk representative still helped and got the manager involved to make it seamless. So appreciate both of their help in allowing me to still check in with no extra money to pay and just pleasantness and understanding. The night staff is the biggest reason why I will never stay anywhere else in Amsterdam except here. Mr. Nathan and Ms. Sammy made my entire trip worth it. Super friendly and made me feel like a part of their family while I stayed. The way this Hotel operates is truly focused on commitment to the guests in making your stay enjoyable. No matter what you have been through, good or bad, this staff makes you feel like family! Thank you all, can’t wait to see you again. Stairs were fun and the room was 5 stars to me.
So.... it's a very old building in the heart of amsterdam, extremely convenient to the train station and the city center. If you're expecting luxurious accommodations...this is not your place. We stayed on the fourth floor with no elevator. Tiny staircase, etc...but that's what authentic Amsterdam is. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. For the price, I don't think you can do any better.
Great place to stay in Amsterdam. Staff are friendly
We enjoyed our time at the hotel staff were super friendly and accommodating. Stairs to our lower level room were a little steep but my husband managed to get our luggage to the room If booking a room here request a room with a lift to your floor Room overlooked canal which was very pretty. Breakfast was basic but good. Highly recommend this hotel. Taxis cannot access this location but drivers will come and assist you with luggage
Room with large windows that opened onto a main canal.Friendly and helpful staff. Very spartan room in need of refresh
The name of the hotel it’s too true of a statement. Recommend not sharing the excuse of a bed. You only get 2.5 feet for a shower that is necessary for the humidity.
Nice little spot
Lovely little hotel very near the train station and canal docks. Extremely convenient for travel. Nice room, comfortable beds and a good shower in the bathroom. Its a small room, but its a traditional building so to be expected. Mikke the cat was a lovely surprise for our daughter, and was often in the downstairs bar area and happy to be stroked. It could do with mentioning that the hotel is technically *in* the Red Light District, although not in view of anything too adult. This was not clear on the booking page, although is on the hotels own website. As our daughter is nearly 15, it wasnt too big an issue but could be for others. It does affect the client mix and the crowds nearby and the noise. Our canal view room didn't suffer from the street noise or the bar at all but did pick up a bit from the main road with the window open. All in all, its a nice little hotel in a good location and rate for Amsterdam and we wouldnt hesitate to go back.
Friendly but in need of updating
Staff were really friendly and put us in a room on a lower floor because we had kids. The hotel itself is tired and the room was not as clean as I would have hoped, the pillows were old and although the bedding was clean, the bed underneath was definitely not. Found the room very noisy as other guests making lots of noise up and down the stairs after a few drinks in the early hours. Wouldn’t book again, would be ok in a couple as location very convenient but not with kids.
super great staff, room was perfect for solo travelers, bar inside hotel was nice and cozy also! 6 euros for a nice cold pint of Heineken[happy hour] was well worth it also, center of the action!!
Close to Central Station
Great location. Cleanliness average but cat was cute
A nice inexpensive hotel in the bustling heart of the old quarter. Expect the street below to be noisy till about 2am, that is what this part of the city is all about. You need to be fit to climb narrow stairs. I enjoyed my stay
the next doors hotels and bars look very good ,but their stairs was terrible ,it easier to climb amount that going to your room in third floor
Perfect for a solo traveler!
Noisy environment. Friendly staff. Difficult to carry our luggage in the tiny stairs going up and down.
The location is very good, and the scenery outside the window is the lake and the train station is very nice. The street downstairs is a bit dirty but it doesn't affect my mood. The room temperature is very suitable for me and my family, i was a little worried after paying to read online reviews, but this experience was great.
Excellent location for the railway station. We had a room overlooking a busy street which was noisy and smelly (we kept the window open as it was hot). Access to the small room was up winding stairs which were steep, uneven and narrow (there was no lift on that side of the building). It would probably be unsuitable for someone with limited mobility / lots of bags. Decent breakfast. Room didn't appear to have been thoroughly cleaned, but staff generally seemed helpful and polite.
Excellent location for the railway station. We had a lovely view over the canal. Woken up by early morning workers and revellers. Some decent restaurants nearby. Small room for 3. An old building with character in a busy street. Breakfast is quite late - available after 8am.
This hotel located in and very convenient location. The room is pretty clean and good size. However there is no air conditioning inside the room. I was so unlucky that it was very hot during my stay. I cannot even stay inside the hotel room with the fan on. Super hot inside even during the night. If the room can have the air conditioner would be much better.
Unique & situated in the central area, this hotel has a charm and quality that is hard to beat. No fancy frills; just the basics of a quality room with necessary amenities & space. Excellent location
Was very close to the night life. Enjoyed the trip
If you’re looking for a cheap place near train station, this hotel is alright. Don’t expect luxuries like AC or shampoo. Don’t go if you have heavy luggage as stairs are extremely steep and narrow. Street is very busy so avoid if you mind loud noises later at night. Location is good for exploring city Centre.
Loved the bar/restaurant downstairs. Breakfast was delicious and we loved Mickey the cat. Room was very dusty (tables and closet needed to be wiped down) but the beds & bathroom were clean. Room was small for a family of three but manageable.
Perfect for one night. Nothing special but great location near the train station.
I am still on vacation but I plan on calling Expedia and getting my money back due to false advertising! Hotel is located in Red Light District, area is filthy and very unsafe, staff was rude and aggressive, took our luggage but couldn’t guarantee its safety and wouldn’t take responsibility for it. It was so unsafe that we didn’t stay there one night, we found another hotel that was extreme excellent. Hotel Roemer
The hotel is located on a perfect location, the service was perfect
Amazing place
Location, hotel, staff are excellent. Be aware of the small narrow stairs if you have a lot of luggage.
Very close to red light district
Terrible stairs but I understand arquitectur.
Tiny room which is fine but it was dirty. There were a lot of hairs and other debris on the sheets as well as garbage under the bed. Bathroom was tiny but clean and functional. No bugs though and the front desk staff were friendly and there 24hrs.
Excellent stay! Perfect location and room views!
Great location, and lovely hotel. The stairs are not as bad as people make out!!
I’m glad I only stayed in slept here for a few hours. The area is great, but definitely the bedding situation gave me huge ick! There wasn’t even a top sheet, and both the bottom sheet and the comforter had big yellow stains on it. Not to mention the curtains had stains, the tv remote was full of dust as the fan. Never again, especially for the price.
Very nice stay.
58 year old mom with 15 year old son stayed one night. We had a very nice room with an amazing canal view. It is a little strange having the reception in a bar but check in was seamless and easy. I was a little worried that we were in the "red light" district but didn't see anything on our street. Location was great - super near train station and a Dirk grocery store just down the block. Very convenient.
A little treasure of place to stay.
Brilliant location. Lovely room with a canal view. Hotel/pub was a great place to have drinks to unwind after busy day sightseeing.
Close to the train station, attractions, and everything else you would want.
Good
Great view of the canal!
Great helpful staff and service. Clean room will stay again when in Amsterdam
Excellent location with lots of old character.
While the hotel was situated only 350 meters from the Central Station, it was quite clear what the original intent for these rooms might have been. The rooms contained basically a bed and a nice bathroom but no space for anything else. The clientele seems to have changed to regular couples who are seeking a more affordable hotel option. I was impressed by the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. They even served breakfast early to help us with our early flight.
Stairs were difficult, no lift. Should be properly stated and also didn’t know water closet and shower were on another floor.
Perfect location as it is close to the central station. We have booked a canal view room which gives us the perfect Amsterdam picturesque view from our window.
Beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. Perfectly located between the RLD and the center of the shopping area.
Pretty average stay. Definitely a budget stay (although the price doesn’t really reflect that lol). The staff were… fine? Not super friendly, but not necessarily helpful or unhelpful- they were very aloof. The room was nice with a really nice view. Seemed clean enough. Room is not equipped with anything (no fridge, or any other appliances. Just a hair dryer, safe, small TV, and ironing board). Overall it was fine for what we needed! Not a luxury stay and nothing really great, just gave us what we needed for a few days.
Stay at this hotel every year excellent cannot fault it
NA
Perfect room for 3 single travelers. We each had our own bed & it was perfect for a two day stay.
Great area! Walkable distance to most activities but close to the train station for when you need to use it! Stairs are STEEP and right for big feet, but that’s expected in Amsterdam!
Great stay and convenient location
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Old Quarter. the convenient location for the money can't be beat. Right outside the door there are dozens of places to eat. We had a canal view room with a super view. It's close to Centraal station making it great for the morning IC train or train to airport. It earns it 5 stars from us.
For the price, would say that it's one of the cheaper rooms in the area. Had to book last minute due to error in another hotel booking, and they were very accommodating. Really friendly service, but when we entered the rooms weren't as advertised. It's so tiny, it's smaller than the Anne Frank Huis. There was barely room to put 2 luggages on the floor. Was more like a backpackers guesthouse. Can recommend this place for 2 friends maximum, or solo travellers. Really quaint as it's on top of the bar but walls are so thin, television is so tiny and dusty. Toilet was really clean and at least there was a lift to go up. Don't recommend for couples or older folks as it's got small steps around, luggage storage area has stairs so steep. Location was fantastic though. Could walk everywhere in central area and return easily.
