Reliable hot water and cold AC made the stay very comfortable. The in-room safe didn’t work but not a deal-breaker. No AC or fan running in common areas (ie. Lobby) although the machines are standing there. Same for restaurant, although they did turn them on as soon as I sat down for breakfast and cooled quickly, so maybe that’s a plus for eco-conservation!
One of the best in Dar
This is a quiet hotel with clean comfortable rooms in the downtown, close to the airport, with a great restaurant
Close to Zanzibar ferry
Well managed hotel in the proximity of Zanzibar ferry terminal. Helpful staff, clean room, comfortable bed and a decent if expensive restaurant.
Close to Zanzibar ferry
Well run hotel within walking distance to Zanzibar ferry terminal. The rooms are very clean and the area is safe if a little run down.
Call to prayer on loudspeaker from mosque
Call to prayer on loudspeaker at 5:00 a.mm. Every morning woke me up
Satisfactory hotel
The room and bathroom were fine, the AC, fan and TV all worked, and breakfast was good. The location was quiet and the staff was helpful. We walked a lot and the streets around the hotel felt safe. There is nothing particularly exciting about the hotel, but there is nothing to complain about either.
Good location.very good service
The street at night is just a terrible place
The aircon cannot be controlled, either full blast or switch off The fan was either off or a helicopter One light did not have a contril to switch off Though the place was very clean and people attending was nice.
Comfortable and clean . Friendly staff
Never never book Nikko Tower Hotel in Tanzania!!!
unprofessional staff in the reception. No money exchange, no charging, etc. Poor Wifi in the room. very old towls and bed sheet. extremly uncomfortable bed. Mosque nearby woke me up at 4:30am every morning.
Hotel in Business area
Hotel was located in the area where I need to work. Not a very nice area. I had a small room. The restaurant had only limited options, did not have all the food on the menu.
great for price point
I have stayed at other hotels like Holiday Inn & this hotel is superior. Nice staff.
Comfortable stay and bad neighborhood
Hotel was comfortable; bathroom and room were clean with good airconditioning. Wifi did not work in my room, though it was functional in the lobby and on other floors. Neighborhood is crowded and access to hotel is terrible. Hotel had a good Indian restaurant with several cuisine options.
Good place to stay....
Very nice and affordable place....close to the Ferry Station.
We loved the staff at this hotel
We booked this hotel because it was located in the city centre, in walking distance from the Zanzibar ferry. However, it is not in the "tourist" hotel area, and is more suited to business accomodation. We were woken up too early by loudspeakers from the mosque next door, but that's not the hotel's fault. Room was small but cheerful and clean. Bed could use a new mattress. There was a problem with smelly drains eminating from the shower, but the shower was hot and we kept the bathroom door closed. Aircon worked, but we couldn't set the temperature to what we wanted. It seemed stuck on 18 degrees. The locale was a bit scary from a security point of view, so we used the hotel's taxi service to take us to the ferry terminal, and that was fine. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was truly wonderful curry! They have an extensive dinner menu catering to most tastes (breakfast was not so extensive) and we were most happy with the offerings, including wine. What we loved about this hotel were the friendly staff. The manager was exceptional, and really went out of his way to ensure we were happy. This fact increased our satisfaction markedly with this hotel. They also have 24 hours service, and we had no trouble when we checked out at 4.30am. We also had our laundry done (quite a lot of dirty clothes after safaris) and they came back same day with cleaned and pressed clothes for us at very moderate prices.
Great Value----Safe Haven
Outside is pretty rough but security at the front door & lovely reception area make you instantly welcome. My room was very good,air-con,ceiling fan,TV,fridge, tea and coffee with room service to back up any other needs. Lovely clean bathroom/shower with lots of fresh clean towels and shampoos and soaps.Top floor has the Zebra sports bar with huge screens & icy cold beer. On mezzanine level was the restaurant & what a great spot it is. Both managers, Hotel(sorry did not get name)& F&B (Murari Prasad)made a point of approaching & saying Hi, each & every visit making it a pleasure for a lone traveler to go for meals. Cannot fault the great wait staff who seem to delight in going out of their way to make you feel welcome & a friend not a customer. Meals were always well presented & filling & both food and drink are great value. Have to say that housemaids were always on the ball, plenty of bathroom top ups as well as waters etc thanks ladies for your service. Last but certainly not least the beaut ladies on reception who never stopped smiling, always had advice, directions & welcome greeting for me. I just loved one comment when I arrived back after a long sweaty walk in high humidity "Peter you are Raining" lolol. The Nikko is also in a great spot for the Zanzibar Ferry All in all a great value, clean, safe Hotel in the middle of a big bustling city, well worth considering if you want some atmosphere & city buzz.
Hotel is, clean & has everything you need.
I have stayed number of times. It is well run. Staff are pleasant & helpful. Rooms are clean. They have a good size safe for your valuables.
VERY SAFE and clean above all!
I needed a safe hotel to stay in overnight to await my flight from Dar to Mwanza the following day. I was a single female travelling alone and wanted somewhere safe and simple to stay. This room was clean, with a comfortable bed, and clean shower. I don't know if I couldn't figure out the shower but I didn't have warm water - it didn't matter much since it was so warm outside. The air con was GREAT (need to close the door to the bathroom since the window in the bathroom is open to the outside air all the time, but can't see inside the window from outside). My flight was supposed to get in in the afternoon, but it was delayed and I arrived at dusk. The restaurant in the hotel was decent but definitely overpriced - about $18 for 2 skewers of meat and vegetables, french fries, and a soda. But worth feeling safe in a foreign country (that isn't safe at night)!!
Great staff!
I was there one night with the purpose of taking the ferry to zanzibar the next day. The ferry was a 10 minute walk away, so the location was perfect. The hotelroom was very regular, but everything worked, there was free wifi in the room. It was slow, but it worked. The staff was soooo awesome, and made me feel at home!
The room was nice. Everything seems to work fine apart from the bed. The food was nice at the restaurant. I didn't like their breakfast and internet was too slow. Overall I will stay at the hotel again.
Good midprice option for downtown Dar
I found this to be a great midprice option for Dar. ATM's are close, the on-site restaurant is very good (particularly for indian food), and the staff were helpful and attentive. Room was clean and comfortable and the wifi was reliable. The neighborhood is probably a bit sketchy at night for walking around alone, but that is going to be true of most places in central Dar. I would definitely stay here again. Taxi to or from the airport is pricey (expect to pay between 40k Tsh and 50k Tsh) but that is the way of things.
Nice rooms in central Dar
The room was clean and in good condition. Friendly staff that helped us with what we needed. The location is nice for exploring central Dar by foot.
good manangment
Location was nice. Hotel staff very friendly, restaurant and bar nice and reasonable price, room very clean, rooms are good size, over all good manangment
Good food,cheap rates
I liked very much the restaurant food. Very cheap rates. Service was good. Overall thought a very good hotel
hotel was comfortable and service was good
I booked this hotel for my son. He thought the hotel was clean but the wireless connection was poor. The website also stated they had a tour desk this was not the case. There should be some information avaliable on tours and phone numbers for tour operators. Staff was helpful though
Good for seasoned travelers
Dineesh, the hotel manager was very receptive to our suggestion that the staff be educated to local restaurants and things to do. We needed a taxi for all night excursions and the weekend hotel driver had little information on where to take us or how to get there? Hopefully, this will be rectified.
Very Nice Stay
The staff was courteous and professional from start to finish. I arrived late, around midnight, after my bus hit a semi truck on the way to Dar from Arusha. The staff were completely on top of their game and my reservation had been held. They even helped me deal with the cab driver who followed me into the hotel to get change so that he could get an extra dollar out of me. They sent me up to my room and dealt with him and delivered my change to my room. They also have a flat rate cab service available to the airport for $25 or 39,000 schillings which is a reasonable price from the downtown location
what a great hotel in the heart of the city...
Not knowing Dar Es Salaam made it difficult to then find a hotel, so delighted to be located centrally. Breakfast great and the staff excellent doing all they could to help.
Needs a bit of work - and overpriced
Room was cluttered, and whole appearance was messy. Room was clean enough, but needs lots of maintenance - open drains in sink and shower (i.e. don't drop a ring or contact lenses), very soft/overused mattress, etc. Breakfast (buffet) was OK - some variety, but not lots. Staff service was basic - helpful only if asked.....certainly not trying to create any good/memorable impressions. Wireless Internet (complimentary) did work in the bedroom. We would stay here again, but wouldn't especially recommend it. For the price we paid, we'd have expected more.
Good Hotel in centre of Dar
Clean comfortable room friendly helpful staff great breakfast
Good location and excellent hotel staff
Don't rely on the hotel shuttle to the airport since it is not at all reliable.
Be aware of the rip off!
A very bad experience. On check in there was a question about our payment which was made through Expedia ( we had the receipt number and even a bank statement to show the money had been withdrawn). After showing his we were told all was OK and even re checked before we went to bed that night. The next morning when we went to check out at 5.00 am to catch a plane, we were told that we had not paid for the room and would have to pay again.the front doors were locked so we could not leave. After arguing, telling the desk clerk that we had already paid etc and showing our evidence to him, he insisted the manager told him last night that we had not paid! Eventually we had no choice but to pay again ( in cash as the credit card machine as not working ?!) but we would " get a refund if they found we had paid twice. Don't worry the manager is an honourable man and will refund you if he is wrong"! We have tried to contact the hotel via email several times with no response, not even an acknowledgement. Either he hotel was ripping us off as we had to leave and were not able to contact anyone, the clerk pocketed the money or Expedia did not pay the hotel. Either way we paid twice! In addition the room we stayed in had a very poor, sinking bed and we were unable to turn off alight. After 2 calls to the front dest for assistance, I just draped a towel ver it to try and get some sleep. Although the hotel looks good, be very wary! The restaurant was fine and tried hard to please.
Quality has gone downhill
As a travel/business person I have stayed at Nikka Tower whenever I have a layover in Dar es Salaam. I used to love it, but the quality has certainly deteriorated. The hotel appears to turn over staff very quick. It seems like they don't even bother training the new staff (the bellhop didn't know how to turn on the A/C in my room). The food quality at the restaurant has fallen to borderline terrible and the price has gone up. Maybe food quality is better peak season? (my most recent visit was in October -- off peak). I ordered a particular item off the menu, and the server brought me something completely different. His response was, "But what you ordered wouldn't taste good with rice." I finally convinced him to bring me what I ordered, and he reluctantly did, but only after calling a coworker over to tell me how my selection really wouldn't taste good with rice. When the bill finally came, I was double-billed for the dinner. He said he didn't know how to work the machine to correct it, and that his manager was gone, so "I'm sorry but this is the amount you have to pay." I guess it makes for good comedy.
The room was well equipped and very clean
The food was good and plentiful, a central location and a very pleasant staff. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who isn't a size freak. Enjoyed my stay very much.
Excellent, helpful staff
There was an error with my last minute booking for this hotel - it had been booked for the night after the one I needed to stay. The desk staff were wonderful and helpful and changed the booking to allow me to stay with no fuss and no charge! The concierge walked with me to the ATM down the road because it was dark and I was on my own...they were all lovely and friendly.
Decent hotel
Rooms ok, hotel located in a mulim part of the city, meaning you must be ready for loudspeaker prayers from 4.30 am. Lengthy discussion at checkout due to problems with their Hotels.com booking list. Staff not helpful at all in solving the matter that turned out to be a problem on their side.
Good value in Dar
Nice clean room, hot shower, comfortable bed, pretty fast wifi, staff that will help you book cabs and other transportation - for the price, what more can you ask?!
Exceeded my expectations
I stayed for 3 nights and my expectations were exceeded. The room was clean and well maintained, good internet connectivity, the food at the restaurant was excellent and open 24h a day. The staffs were very professional and very helpful. I recommend this hotel.
good for money
This is not a 5 star hotel but clean, good, and good for the money. I have stayed at other places for significantly more that were not as nice. Staff try to accomadate.
High quality expereince
Nice clean, comfortable room with AC, large comfortable bed, cable TV (BBC & Al Jeezera), a balcony. The bathroom had plenty of hot water and new fixtures, all working plumbing. The wi-fi was good in my room and in the restaurant. My room had an electric water kettle and complimentary powdered coffee. The staff were friendly and professional and no issue with my hotels.com reservation or my pre-paid checkout. The location is right downtown and a short walk to the Zanzibar ferries. The breakfast buffet was great (french toast!). Dinner was just okay, so if you have a bit of time maybe try somewhere else. Overall very good experience.
Good place to sleep in Dar Es Salaam
Stayed here for one night before moving on to Arusha. The hotel staff were very friendly and check-in was effortless. The room was cozy with a good size bathroom with nice shower and hot water! There is also a safe in the room big enough to take laptops and mosquito grill on windows and the sliding door to the small balcony. No mosquito nets over the bed though. There was a TV but we didn't try it. Wifi in the room was good. Taxi to airport or to Ubungo bus station should be about 25000 TSH anymore and you are being ripped off. The bell boy organised a taxi for us to Ubungo for $25 so we had to renegotiate with the driver.
Nice staff
Fairly good hotel. I don't think it's easy to find a cheap hotel in a good neighborhood in Dar Es Salam. We were quite happy about this one. Location wasn't good, but I don't think you will do much better anywhere in Dar Es Salam. I would consider this hotel again, if returning to Dar.
my first experience
well organised services... keep it up...nice breakfast...
Good for an overnight stay
I was coming from Zanzibar to take a flight to Istanbul, the airport hotels were sold out. The hotel has confortable rooms and its okay for a one nighter, it's a little far from the airport but that's probably a minor issue.
Decent value for money
I liked this place. Room was fairly small but it was clean and felt secure with an in-room safe. Only negative was that at check-out there was a dispute as to whether or not I had paid. This took 20 minutes to resolve so luckily I wasn't in a hurry. I explained to them that they needed to take up the matter with Hotels.com, but this was the only disappointing aspect in an otherwise good stay.
Niko Tower is well situated for Central Dar - and for what it charges is very good value. The restaurant is particularly recommended for the range of food that it can provide
A bargain in downtown Dar
We felt we were taking a bit of a chance on the Hotel Nikko Tower, since there were no reviews posted on Hotels.com. But the price was barely half of what other business-class hotels were charging in Dar es Salaam, which is an expensive city. The hotel surpassed our hopes and expectations. Our room was an adequate size, air-conditioned, well-insulated from noise, clean and well-appointed, serviced daily, with DSTV and a solid wi-fi connection. Service was attentive from the moment we entered until the moment we left. Special kudos to the manager, Dinesh, who goes out of his way to ensure guests are well cared-for. The location is perfect if you want to be in the heart of downtown Dar, just a few minutes' walk from the Zanzibar ferry terminal. The hotel is in the heart of the bustling Asian Quarter, which is fun to stroll around during the daytime, though at night (like many central business districts) it has a somewhat deserted and derelict feel. The first-floor restaurant is excellent -- at least the Indian food is; it was so good that we never tried anything else. A buffet breakfast is included with your room, often with an Indian flavour too (much of the clientele appears to be businesspeople and others of Indian background). If eggs aren't available in the buffet, just ask the staff to prepare them to your liking at no additional cost. The Hotel Nikko Tower became something of an oasis for us throughout our Tanzanian travels -- highly recommended.
Når gæsten kommer tilbage?
Da vi kom igen næste uge, kunne vi ikke få et værelse til samme pris igen, så vi endte med at gå et andet hotel.
Sentralt. Rent og pent.
Ca. 10-15 minutters gange fra Zanzibar-ferjeterminalen. 25 minutter fra markedskvartalene. Rent og pent med alt som trengs. Egen resturant med bl. a. god indisk mat😊
Great location. Good service. In the middle of the city center ( old part of the city). Many commerces open during the day. At night is not safe to walk around but you can always call a taxi an Uber.
