Excellent hotel. Staff friendly and helpful.
Professional staff . They work on making guests feel comfortable.
Will come back again
This stay exceeded our expectations and we absolutely adored it. The rooms were perfect, the breakfast and rooftop bar’s incredible, and the staff are extremely kind. For these prices, this place is a steal of a deal. We will be staying here every time we’re in the area
People at the reception were extremely helpful and went out of the way when we had an emergency
Great location but need updates…
The hotel is generally well-kept but the bathroom needs refurbishment. The “Jacuzzi” shower is small, leaks water and it’s dangerous. The breakfast was good but the sole employee taking care of it was overwhelmed.
We really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely go back and recommend anyone we know to stay there.
It was close to Rome termini and the staff were nice. The room and breakfast was ok.
Very clean hotel and well maintained. Reasonable price.
Basic. Staff lovely. Pictures don’t match reality
Central location, well maintained property, very friendly and professional staff. Thank you!
Good place to stay in Rome. Excellent front desk staff. Nice clean room. Air conditioning works. We we're going to stay 2 nights and stayed for 4. Breakfast on 7th floor is good value, selection, everything is clean . Would reccomend.
Welcoming and knowledgeable staff made our stay memorable. The rooftop bar is a casual place to have a drink and relax. Our room was small but well equipped and very clean. Comfortable bed with extra pillows. Walking distance to many restaurants, it was everything we needed. I would definitely recommend you stay here.
Nice staff. Spacious room
👍
Great stay in a nice, clean, and good looking hotel. No complaints at all. Would stay here again without hesitating.
Great location safe and close to but far enough away from the train station to avoid the noise. Breakfast buffet is nice. Remember you have to pay your occupancy tax in cash. No iron or ironing board available.
Great hotel
Mika at the front desk was amazing! Airport transfer is 80 Euros not included when staying here. The restaurant bar and restaurant is nice and convenient. The blonde restaurant server was a sweetheart. She was soo nice and friendly.
Nice hotel, clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were very attentive and helpful. Location is perfect, about 10 minute walk from the train station. Many restaurants around to eat at. Continental breakfast was just ok. We went up to the roof top for dinner and music and we were disappointed. The food is nothing special. Drinks were expensive and not good. I would stay here again.
Easy to find and walk to, just across from the train station. Convenient and safe. Perfect for one night in and out of the city with the bus station down the street, restaurants nearby and the train across the street. Room is simple. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was nothing special, can do without. I would definitely stay there again.
Close to train station. Didn't like: value for money. Was too expensive for the size of rooms.
We had a nice stay at the Hotel Montecarlo and would recommend it to others.
Everything was great! But I wish the timeslots for the breakfast were longer
We loved our stay. The staffs are great.
Lovely hotel, friendly and helpful staff, I highly recommend it
Thanks!
Lovely hotel and very friendly staff
Excellent. Easy access to buses. Very clean room. Good staff. Comfortable beds. And, for those who care - a jacuzzi tub. There’s even an outstanding gelateria within easy walking distance. 10/10 would book again
Good family hotel
We had a wonderful experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. Very good value and convenient location.
Cerca de todos los puntos turísticos
All is good
It was a short stay but good experience overall
The photos of the room were misleading and did not represent it well. The condition of the room was in a poor state and it had a strange smell. The jacuzzi tub was also broken, which was the main reason I booked my stay there.
Really nice hotel with some really lovely character features. Room was well sized for our family (2 adults, 2 kids) with everything we needed. An excellent power shower and good location to base our Roman adventures. The staff could not have been more friendly, informative and helpful in every way possible. It was within 15 minute walk to either one of three metro stations which included the main Termini station to give us easy access to the rest of Rome. There was also some very nice restaurants around the hotel as well as a mini market accorss the road from the hotel itself.
The hotel is adequate for it's size and all the staff are eager to please. The rooftop bar/breakfast area is a bonus to the hotel though we found it a real shame that the bar was dead in the evenings with no real sign of much life at all, saying that the barman Fred was the most helpful member of staff as he was able to give some great advice on the surrounding area and was always super efficient with the drinks. The rooms were fine if a little dated, bit of an irritation that the safe didn't work in our room despite numerous requests it remained that way when we left. Tea and coffee making facilities were very welcome but it would have been nice to have fresh cups - they were never replaced during our visit. Overall the hotel met our needs and we enjoyed our stay.
Old property
Great hotel. Defiantly coming back here
Great room. Great service. Great rooftop bar and breakfast location. Yummy options included in stay.
From check in to check out, the concierges were fantastic. Rooftop was great for breakfast and evening drinks.
Clean well laid out rooms / nice rooftop breakfast / courteous staff / walkable location
Well maintained place, clean with friendly staff, in particular the reception desk, Mica and Franco were helpful polite and friendly. Breakfast was very good, fresh food, pastery and bacon&egg tasty. Location is excellent, 3 minute walk to 492 bus stop and 12 minute to metro station. You may walk 20-30 minutes to see old Roman sites. Overall very good experience.
The lady in concierge was great. She was warm, welcoming and informative.
Honest review
I note most reviews never really tells you what you need to know and doesn’t help create a more informed decision on the hotel but here goes. What makes this hotel shine, is the service and friendliness from the staff, especially the reception. The hotel itself is old as can be seen on all pictures. Please note that all pictures are glammed up and they’ve set the scenes to make the hotel look more luxurious than it is. At first sight, my kids didn’t like it, as it’s old and gloomy. For older folks who like the nostalgia, it’s a good hotel. For younger folks who are used to a more modern style with a traditional comfort, this is not for you. I feel more comfort and luxury staying at an Express by Holiday Inn. The bathroom is where the most disappointment is, sink building up water, old and cheap shower. We found so much dust in the main living area, I’m sure house keeping hasn’t really deep cleaned for months. The mattresses were disappointing and the toiletries were tge really cheap rubbish that does more harm than good. Advice to the hotel… You have an amazing hotel but you’re opting for cheap products, and doing everything on the really cheap end. If you’d just invest a little on quality, comfort and luxury, you be able to create something truly amazing and a real international 4-stars. The 7th floor breakfast area, is at best a 2-stars which was very disappointing. Truth and reality is, this hotel is at best a lower end 3-star or a strong 2-stars.
Overall, this is a nice hotel in a good location. Our only issue was that the property is overdue for an update of the rooms, especially the bathrooms. The facility was clean, the staff was very accommodating, and the breakfast on the rooftop was terrific!
Friendly helpful staff
Very helpful staff. They helped us when we got there before check-in time. They gave us lots of good advice. They really wanted to help us. Nice breakfast.
Very elegant hotel 8 blocks from Rome Termini
Highly recommend. Very beautiful, elegant, immaculately clean hotel with roof-top restarant about 800m (8 blocks) from Rome Termini train station.
Rooms pretty small and dated, uncomfortable beds and small bathroom. Have to leave room key before leaving and schedule breakfast time slot the night before. Felt more like a two star hotel. Only positive: staff very helpful, pleasant and friendly.
3-star hotel, not 4-star!
Hotels.com is advertising this hotel as a 4-star hotel, so I expected that level of cleanliness and service. When we arrived we saw on the hotel’s sign that it is a 3-star hotel, not the 4-star that we had paid for and expected. When I contacted Hotels.com about it, they had to call the hotel to ask them what star rating they are.
Great for families, we had plenty of space. Immaculately clean and front desk staff was friendly. Franco at the front desk is lovely. Free breakfast was a plus and this is a proper breakfast with selection of eggs, variety of juices, bacon, fruit, coffee, pastries, etc. I saw some complaints in online reviews about the breakfast, which completely baffles me. We stay in hotels with our teenage kids pretty often and this breakfast is about as good as it gets. Our family stayed in the quad-room (4 person) and had comfortable beds and plenty of space. Only complaint is the very European-style shower. As a family of four, we really needed a curtain, opaque door or some other privacy feature in the shower so the bathroom can be used by multiple people at the same time. One person can brush their teeth or use the toilet, etc, while another is in the shower - not possible in this case due to the glass door. Also the glass shower door is only about 2 ft. long so all the water sprayed onto the floor which was also awkward. The tile floor has to be wiped down due to all of the water that splashed out after showering. But, again, this boils down to a cultural difference. As Americans, we preferred the shower nozzle to be fixed overhead as opposed to this style which was intended for using a hand-held nozzle to wash oneself.
Highly recommended hotel in central Rome!
Amazing stay, great location of the hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, unique building with historical elements such as the lift, superb breakfast - very recommended!
5 minute walk to both Rome main subway lines.
Some of the more expensive rooms you can stay in here might be good but ours wasn’t that great, plugs by the bed didn’t work the fridge was loud all through the night and the room was very small, also there was no soundproofing in the room whatsoever to the point were you could actually hear someone in another room peeing into the toilet water. The staff however were a credit to the hotel and very friendly and helpful I would’ve scored the hotel less without them.
It is no 4 star hotel it is2 star
The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean.
Excellent hotel! Very friendly staff, go the extra mile for their guests, English speaking too which was so helpful. Beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was stunning! Would absolutely stay again!
Great staff front desk extraordinary fantastic Franco and Sergey I think his name and the lady in the housekeeping staff Thank you all
The staff were very nice and friendly and rooms clean but quite small and roof terrace closed
Friendly, helpful staff, clean facility located in the traditional hotel area. Walking distance to many restaurants and to Termini.
Rude and disorganized front desk staff. No hot water! . Tiny breakfast area a struggle to navigate.. Ran out of dishes cups silverware more than an hour and a half before the end
Reasonable Choice
Reasonable hotel with good staff. Medium on location but comfortable. Would recommend this as a cost-efficient place to stay.
Very clean with helpful staff. Good location with plenty of good restaurants close by
This hotel was affordable and a walking distance from the Termini.
Liked the gentlemen who met us at the hotel. He was very passionate about the hotel and area. Disliked that there were a lot of bees flying around on the terrace (7th floor) early in the morning for coffee. They seemed to go away by the time my daughters were awake and ready for breakfast.
Perfectly acceptable tourist accommodations
Our stay was fine. The shower is very small, but everything was in order. Note that the hotel has three stars, not four stars as it says on Hotels.com.
Great location near Termini, friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast buffet on the lovely rooftop deck.
Classy!
Excellent! Just what we needed after having a not so pleasant experience at another place.
Rome’n around
Stay was good. Bed was comfy. Bathroom quite cramped. But overall for the price the location, service, security and cleanliness were great
reservations and taxes paid for three people, and there were only 2 cups in the room. There were two different gentleman at the front desk, we requested a cab to be called for 730 am the next day, and specifically stated the cab had to accept credit cards for payment. We were 20 minutes early and asked the morning desk clerk if he could call and ask for the car to be early if they could, and he said No he could not do that, it was impossible as it was too soon--20 minutes away. When the car arrived, it was NOT an official marked taxi, and did not take credit cards. I refused to get in the car and the desk clerk assured me it would be ok, but it was not ok, and definitely could have been unsafe. He did call for another cab, and it took 2 minutes to arrive, which would have been great if he had done that in the first place as I had requested. I can't help but think that it was probably a taxi scam.
Nice hotel
Nice hotel and very nice stuff. My only concern was regarding the number of stars: its 3 stars, not 4 as shown here
From the moment I checked in, the hospitality was excellent! The hotel was very quiet and very close to the metro which we used to get everywhere in town. The front desk was also very helpful in finding places to eat and even called and made a reservation for The Vatican and a place to eat one night. I would highly suggest this place to stay.
Lovely friendly staff, very welcoming and accommodating. The room and hotel were both very clean and convenient placed in Rome. Would stay again!
great time in Rome at the Montecarlo Hotel
The hotel was clean and the continental breakfast was something I was looking forward having every morning. They made a fresh cappuccino for me which I have with a delightful croissant. They organized at the front desk a tour to the Vatican at the last minute for which I was very thankful. I saved hours of my time in line thanks to their very influential phone call. The structure is old but well maintained and I will certainly return there because the close location to the train station is certainly a plus. Extra bonus: I found a couple of places for dinner at walking distance from the hotel: AL 39 and Punto 41. One to the right and the other to the left , respectively, as soon as you exit the main door of the hotel
The room is damp stincks, breakfast very limited choice and staff seem cold.
Very nice hotel! Close to the train station, easy walk to the city. Very friendly staff!
Missing breakfast, room is small, elevator is tiny, good location.
Nice quiet hotel. Comfortable room but could have done with some more drawers for clothes. Breakfast was more than adequate although the breakfast room was quite small for the number of guests at the hotel. Staff lovely and friendly.
Overall pleasant stay! The room was as described, clean and comfortable. The area is farther away from the more popular attractions so much quieter with many cafes and restaurants nearby. Attractions were easy to navigate by foot or by train stations nearby.
Great location and service
Nice hotel, great location close to Termini
Hotel is nice and close to Termini so it makes it very easy to get anywhere, the only problem with the place is the noise, yeh the rooms maybe sound proof, but all the doors have massive gaps under so you can still here everything that’s going on in the corridor, slamming of other doors, people shouting and people doing jobs in the early morning
Not so enjoyable a hotel
Over the past 5 years we’ve visited 19 countries, and this hotel was a huge disappointment. There are two ways to judge a hotel: its facilities and its services. The facilities are fixed. The services are what makes a hotel great, good, or lousy. We’ve stayed in bare boned hotels that rate 4 stars. Then, there are the others with nice facilities that blow it on the services. This facility has nice facilities. Reasonable sized room. But if you are infirm, there are steps to get to the hotel desk, and to the dining room, and to get from the elevator to the front door. (Not disabled friendly!). And just around the corner there is a movie theater specializing in sex movies. The services is where this hotel is horrible. We arrived to a rude hotel clerk (this hotel has but one at the desk). Had we needed someone to help with the bags, there was no staff to do so. The breakfast offering was the worst we have seen as the pictures show. They constantly have empty food trays, which considering the meager fare means you eat in stages: bacon without eggs or vice versa. One morning their dining room was full so they turned away guests. Today they ran out of silverware. They had no coffee; you have to ask for a small cup of coffee. There's no Kleenex in the room; the toilet paper roll is mounted on a spot 4 feet away from the toilet. During our stay, the main elevator broke down. Perhaps some people would say these are small things, but small things add. We wouldn't return here.
budget hotel near the central train station
very basic budget hotel near the central train station. it's ok if you stay one night or so... however, note that it is located in old historical building (nice experience for those interested in history), so expect certain things to be temporary "under maintenance". In our case, large elevator was not operating (we used small one for one person per ride), internet in the lobby was down, shower cabin is not the best you may expect. Staff is friendly. They book shuttle to airport if you want.
I have stayed here several time and have never had a bad experience. The staff are wonderful and very helpful. The room is spotless and has all necessities (including a fridge, a safe, tv, ac, wifi). Even a roof top bar.
wifi was very ordinary. Beds werent fantastic. Breakfast was pretty good
Great concierge. Informative and welcoming. Would definitely return
It was a good place. Comfortable and clean. Has a good breakfast, the staff is attentive and has good prices. Is a very good choice for short stays.
Convenient to Roma Termini and Clean
I booked Hotel Montecarlo because I wanted a hotel convenient to the Roma Termini train station, without being exactly next to it. I booked an “Economy Double Room” for a quick two night stay. Here are my pros and cons- Pros: Walking distance to Roma Termini Clean Walking distance to many sites (may be too long a walk for some people) Helpful, polite staff Terrace (a bit hard to see the view) Cons: Not many restaurants nearby Fairly utilitarian room (although I recognize I booked the Econ room) Breakfast wasn’t very tasty (not worth the 10 Euro per person) Overall, the pros outweigh the cons for what I needed in a hotel room. Nearby dining options and/or better hotel food would have been nice. For me, cleanliness, convenience, and curtesy are the most important for a quick hotel stay, and for those reasons Hotel Montecarlo worked well for my needs.
Nice hotel
Lovely clean comfortable central hotel with nice staff.
Less than expected
The room was much larger than anticipated but it was very dated and sparsely decorated. The neighborhood was not very tourist friendly with restaurants and shops being several blocks away. The streets were filthy and made you feel uncomfortable walking at night. Our air conditioner was not working two of the nights. Sleeping with the window open to the noisy street was very difficult. After the first day they worked on it, and it worked for half the night, then quit. When we let the front desk know again when we were on our way out the next morning. The desk attendant wanted us to change rooms. We were on our way out for a day bus tour and were not going to be back until very late. The desk clerk seemed annoyed that we would not return to our room and pack to be moved. Fortunately, whatever the technician did that day while we were out seemed to work. The last day of our stay the elevator was inoperable. This made the schlep up to the 7th floor for breakfast less than fun and dragging our luggage to the lobby was not easy either. We would not stay in this hotel own this area again if we were to return to Rome.
Nice and comfy in Hotel Montecarlo
stayed in this hotel in 2016 and like it very much as staff are friendly and location quiet and away from tourists noise. Rome tourist attractions about 10 mins by taxi cost 10 euro.
Great place to stay close to train station
A very clean and comfortable place to stay. Excellent staff. Close to train station and good restaurants right down the street. Highly recommend.
Don't Do It You'll Thank Me Later.
I have never left a bad review about a hotel until now. Room was smelly and was as a dungeon. Bathroom wreaked. Breakfast was almost inedible and for $12 was a complete ripoff. O and did I mention I got stuck in their prehistoric elevator? Overall a terrible experience and would recommend any other place but this around.
Great location, staff lovely, rooms comfortable. The only downside was the extremely cramped shower!
Convenient yet serene
Conveniently locates near the train station, about 5-10 min walk. Front office, Mr Franco is very patient and customer oriented, best among the hotel staff I've met during my 2 weeks stay in Italy. He patiently explain the directions to us, helped with our heavy lugguage and suggested some local food around the hotel too.! Thanks Franco for making a memorable stay for us on our last night in Italy
Roman snug
Lovely old fashion hotel with friendly staff and service. Pity the area is a ghost town.
Not a good experience
I chose this hotel because of it's closeness to the railway station and it is. However you have to walk through some not so nice streets to get there. Certainly not a 4 star hotel, rooms are tired, plastic cups, smell of tobacco in the halls and elevator, below average breakfast. However the overwhelming reason I would never stay here again is the pettiness of the place. Due to problems with my ATM card we had ran out of Euros 3 days before but had managed with no problems just using a credit card. The room was prepaid with only a 7 euro city tax to pay. I presented my credit card and was told that it had to be cash. The explanation was that they didn't want to pay the credit card commission on city tax, which I calculated to be about 14 Euro cents. I explained my problem and offered to pay them 8 euros. No, had to be cash, so had to find a money exchange that gave enough euros for the few $ I had in my wallet.
Great hotel and staff
A lovely hotel in quite part of Rome. The hotel was fantastic and the staff were all wonderful and very friendly. We only stayed one night but will definitely book here again when we return
Decent hotel at decent location.
Very centrally located, good connections to Colosseum and Vatican through buses and trains. Termini station is about 8-10 mins walk. Missed coffee machine in room rest everything was good.
One night stay in Rome
Great location for people coming from/ going to the airport . I wish they allowed me an earlier check in. Nice hotel, fairly priced
This is a cute hotel, well situated for walking around town. The room was small, and the bed was too hard to sleep on. Ended up leaving after the first night. Breakfast was nothing special.

People were great
