A Jewel in Zermatt

Lovely charming boutique hotel slightly off the beaten path and out of the chaotic center of Zermatt. The staff was beyond lovely and accommodating. The restaurant on site a hidden jewel and food was beyond delicious. Even if you’re not staying here, give the restaurant a try.

Great place

This is a fantastic place to stay in Zermatt. The property is away from the main dining and shopping district which was important to us but e say enough to walk to town to eat or shop. The hotel is new, modern and very clean. The restaurant on site is very good which allows you to stay close for breakfast and dinner. The staff were very attentive and responsive. Highly recommend this for a trip to Zermatt.

Best Stay Ever

This was the most incredible hotel I’ve been to in a long time. The staff go above and beyond to make you feel relaxed, welcomed and luxurious. The property is clean, beautiful and safe. The rooms are breathtaking and the restaurant Filet et Files was a special treat. I will be booking again!

This property is exceptional! Modern and well appointed. Room was perfect with a Sauna. Steam-room, and large bath tub!! On-site restaurant for dinner and breakfast was outstanding.

Service was outstanding. Property was amazing. The room included a luxury soaking tub with bath salts, dry sauna and steam shower. Slept with the windows open and woke to the lovely sound of birds chirping. Wonderful bar and outdoor patio area. The front desk kindly assisted in helping us find a hotel at our next destination. The hotel shuttle driver was super kind.

Gracious service and a beautiful property

Comparable to any 5 star resort on this planet in terms of service and cleanliness. The staff was AMAZING. First free drinks, then a tour of the facility. This hotel should teach a master class on service and staff loyalty. Every employee is friendly and eager to serve. I can't recommend Hotel Matthiol enough. I wish they had locations in every city because I'd book them exclusively from here on.

Wonderful hotel. Staff was very friendly and attentive. The property was very cozy and modern. The breakfast was delicious with many options. The walk to skiing was not too far. In the snowier months you can ski directly to the property for your last run. There was not enough snow for this run but we still enjoyed our stay and would stay again for a ski trip.

The staff is super friendly and the hotel is AMAZING. Transportation service is a plus. The view of the Matterhorn is gorgeous from the hotel.

Hotel Matthiol is a terrific small hotel, very much deserving of its 4-star certification. The staff is very helpful and friendly, the rooms excellently appointed, and has exceptional views of the Matterhorn.

Wonderful experience

One might think a boutique hotel would offer small rooms, but not the Matthiol. Rooms and bathrooms are quite spacious and modern in addition to wonderful fitness and spa facilities. The best still are the people who manage the hotel. So incredibly friendly and helpful. Note, it is only a few min walk to the ski lift.

From start to finish. This hotel was a dream. Everything you see is what you get and a bit more. The staff were all so lovely and polite. They made an extra effort on my birthday which I did not even tell them about. Room service was great and always came back to a treat and tidy room. The breakfast was top tier, loads of variety and great quality. My room was beautiful with a picturesque mountain view. Very quiet and homely hotel. Running out of words to describe this place but overall was a dream. The only down side is distance from town centre, I had no problem walking 20-30 mins back and forth as I prefer walking and seeing the town on foot but if you’re unfit or unable to walk long distances it might not be suitable. Downhill on the way to town and uphill on the way back. Lastly the Spa is super. Outside jacuzzi Sauna, steam room, mud baths, face mask and relaxing area. Will definitely be back at some point in the summer season! Thankyou everyone at Matthiol Zidan

The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The bar had beautiful Christmas decorations. We also loved the breakfast at the hotel, especially the Brazilian drink.

Loved this hotel! It has the perfect view of the Matterhorn. Extremely clean. They have the best wellness center. Easy to walk to the town. Hard to walk back to the hotel as it is up hill. But definitely a place to stay at. I hope to be back soon.

The rooms were beautiful. With the in-room sauna and steam shower and the large bathtub with a view of the Matterhorn…..we were in love.

Kudos to Jacqueline and Lucas, friendly and professional staff at Hotel Matthiol. Jacqueline answered all my queries very promptly via email and Lucas ensured I had the fastest check in to my room after a long day of commuting from Wengen to Zermatt. He made it so fast and yet productive with all information required ready. However, the location of this hotel to town center is not for anyone who wishes to stay near town center. The shuttle bus frequency is about 30mins and you might not be able to get onto it when it arrives. The walk to town is not near too. It takes about 15-20mins One way but the way back from the Town to Hotel has challenging Slopes to tackle. It's not joke for people who are not able to walk much or far. Having said that, my room and view is awesome!! Oh and they had Welcome Drinks too..... Cheers!

We really enjoy our stay. The staffs are friendly and made helpful recommendations. They reached out to us in advance to arrange transport and see if we needed help with restaurant reservations. The room is gorgeous and I took benefit of the in room steam and sauna. We woke up to the gorgeous Matterhorn right outside of our window.

Probably the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at. Rooms and spa were incredible with stunning views of the matterhorn and surrounding mountains. hiking trails right by the hotel to visit other places as well. 10/10

It was just magical!

Hotel Matthiol is a good place to stay with. Walking distance approaching 20mins from the nearer station. Of course, they are also providing friendly staff to pick up you from the nearer station. weather is super good during my stay with Hotel Matthiol. Hope i can have free time to visit Zermatt again in soon.

The breakfast buffet was amazing had so many options and it was included in your room stay! Everyone on the staff was so helpful, friendly, and welcoming. I can't wait to come back again!

Serenity and tasteful design

An absolutely wonderful stay! The boutique hotel is tastefully designed, located in a quiet spot (a bit far from the centre of Zermatt but perfect if you like serenity), a very nice and accommodating staff. Highly recommended!

Absolutely incredible- a business partner and I came here on a whim after work in Germany without much expectation. This lodging, staff, hotel, and surrounding town was absolutely unreal. It was like stepping into a fairy tale waking up to see the sun on Matterhorn, but in a 5 star hotel with service to boot. HIGHLY recommend- I will be returning to this exact hotel in the future with my wife.

The hotel is very nice, clean and new. What makes the hotel standing up more is the first class hospitality the staff provided. They contacted me way before the travel giving information on shuttle pick up from the train station and restaurant reservations. When I arrived their spa a few minutes before the closing, they made exception to allow me stay 30 minutes longer. I accidentally left my favorite hat on the shuttle when I departed, Nuno shipped the hat to the US to my home. It really made me feel so welcomed and taken care of. Highly recommend Hotel Matthiol to anyone staying at Zermatt.

This hotel was amazing, and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The service was outstanding. I liked that the hotel was a little ways from the main area, but still close enough to walk. It was quiet, peaceful, and the amenities were superb.

We liked the location it was very quiet. The rooms were beautiful and had everything we could need. The spa was great. Bar area was used every night and was great as well. Dinner in the dining area was perfect, low lighting, very quiet and peaceful What I would have liked was that the hotel provide transportation to the ski lifts. Also if we could have got shown around the spa. We found it on our own and had to figure out what each area was for.

Quiet but little far from restaurants and shopping and it is not in and out skiing probably can find better hotels with better ski and shopping access

We had a pleasant stay here at Matthiol. It is not walking distance to the town but its just a 5 to 10 minutes cab ride. Its very clean, and staff is very friendly and helpful.

I have stayed at a lot of places around the world and never before have I met a staff so accommodating to every need around the clock. The experience at this hotel is truly one a kind and a must if you plan to visit Zermatt

This hotel made our Swiss ski vacation a dream come true. Every staff member we encountered was so incredibly welcoming and helpful. The service you will receive here cannot be beat. From updating us on the mountain conditions, to directing us around town and to the ski area, to making dinner reservations for us in town, to arranging transfers to the train station, and so much more —we felt so well taken care of. If that wasn’t enough, the hotel amenities are so luxurious and comfortable. We spent time in the spa daily, and I had a massage that was fantastic. The rooms are comfortable and roomy, with nice fixtures and added perks (robe, slippers, turndown service at night); even the standard room left nothing to be desired. And we just felt so well taken care of each day, starting with complimentary breakfast in the morning, to complimentary tea and cakes in the afternoon, to pre-dinner drinks or a night cap at the bar, and even a dinner spent in a fondue igloo— everything met or exceeded our expectations. If I ever return to Zermatt, I will definitely be staying at hotel Matthiol again, without question!

It exceded our expectations, hotel rooms are identically as they’re shown in pictures. I really love this hotel. Service was amazing, staff was always aware of us and our needs. Highly recommended. It’s a little far away from the train station but they offered shuttle service to pick you up and take you there at no cost.

I loved the ambience of the hotel and the friendly helpful staffs. I stayed for honeymoon and it was amazing. On the last day we saw beautiful Matterhorn behind the hotel which was stunning! The room was beautiful and I loved the big bath tub and the sauna! We loved the cheese fondue dinner at Igloo too. The service of thestaff who served us at the igloo was fantastic. The only thing if I could request is that if there’s different varieties in the breakfast I was more happy. But overall we were very satisfied and happy with the stay!

Stay here when in Zermatt

This hotel was a dream. Everything was so well appointed and thoughtful.

In quiet area excellent facility, nice size room and bathroom, balcony. Though did not have room with view of Matterhorn, some were available for a higher price. Staff very friendly. Restaurant dinners excellent. Easy to get bus to town for small fee or walk 20 minutes. Ten minute walk to gondolas to go up to Klein Matterhorn at 13,000 feet. Wonderful village like environment though has grown greatly since last visit. No cars allowed in town, so less noise and easy to get around. Matterhorn Museum excellent. Zermatt is a wonderful place.

This Hotel was beautiful and the staff were so nice and could not do enough for you . A place I would definitly come back to and I would highly reccomend

Miss information

When we asked about the hotel calling a taxi for us at 6:30 the next morning, we were told that they would do that for us. When we went to the front desk the next morning we saw a sign saying it would not be attended until 8:00. We had to walk 1/4 mile to find a hotel that was opened to call a cab. Almost missed our train.

Location is quiet, away from the crowds with an awesome view of Matterhorn. Close to the bus line. Room is a good size and clean with nice washroom area and overhead shower. During the day, you’ll have to open the window as there’re no AC. It cools down quickly at night but because there're no screen on the windows... they’re bugs coming into the room The amenities and pillows could improve. Overall it is a pleasant stay.

Hotel Matthiol was such an incredible experience! The setting is incredible, the service is amazing! We can't wait to plan another trip back! Such a wonderful experience for us on our honeymoon.

Stunning beautiful hotel where the natural beauty matches the outside mountains. Fantastic amenities with sauna and steam room and gorgeous views of the mountains. Food was phenomenal.

A very relaxing hotel with a wonderful garden, views and very good facilities and restaurant.

We loved our recent stay at the hotel! The buffet breakfast had a nice selection and the hotel offer freshly cooked eggs and pancakes included in the buffet. The hotel itself is very clean inside and out and the rooms are also well kept. The bed was big and comfortable but maybe needs a few extra pillows. The best part was the fact you could sleep with all the windows open and hear nothing but the trees! The location is outside the main strip of shops but is conveniently near the bus stop so you can get around easily. They also have bikes for rent. The only thing that is missing at this hotel is maybe a spa but the sauna was good. The staff were welcoming and offer drinks on arrival and a parting gift which was a nice little touch :) thanks guys we will be back!

The rooms, view, staff, and quality of food were all well above average. We had a very nice time, generally speaking. We were VERY unhappy at the construction going on that was waking us up at 7:15am every morning; there's nothing like going to a relaxing (and fairly expensive) spa hotel for a little R&R only to be rudely awoken bright and early in the morning. Also, the builders didn't seem to have a problem with urinating in the sparse bushes next to the public path...we got to see QUITE the view from these men.

The location was great in the busy town of Zermatt. I was out of the hustle and bustle allowing you to truly experience the nature of the town. Simply stunning and we wish we'd never left.

Staff was very friendly and shuttle to the train was helpful. We were disappointed to be in a room with no balcony or view when almost every other room has a balcony. The photos and descriptions were misleading

It is at least a 15 minutes walk uphill from the town centre so after eating in town its quite a drag up hill back to the hotel. The plus side is that it is quiet and peaceful . Closest lift is Furri Matterhorn paradise

Cant beat The Matthiol!!

What a great hotel! So close to the Matterhorn but away from the crowds in Zermott. We highly recommend this fantastic place to stay and eat!!

Great facilities, it is not a ski in/out hotel and the staff was far from helpful.

What can be faulted when you have a private steam and sauna in your own room? Nothing! The room is well designed, spotless clean, great service, great restaurant. Even though the hotel is a little further away from the town, it is close to bus station. It is a perfect spot if you don’t like the hustling tourist place, and a place to wind down after a day of adventure.

Loved being able to ski off the mountain right to the hotel after a long day on the slopes! Hotel was very cozy and the breakfast in the mornings were great! The walk into town is downhill and isn't too bad, just grab a taxi on the way back! Would definitely stay here again.

perfect !!! the best hotel during my vocation in switzerland. I just couldn't find other word to describe this hotel. high value with a reasonable price. a decor interior design with high quality equipment . and the service is really nice here. 1. when you check-in, you'll get a welcome drink . 2. the hotel put a fairytale story card and chocolates on the bed everyday before you back to the hotel at night. 3. breakfast is great. 4. the only defect is a little bit far from central area

The pros in this property outweigh the cons. Its an super well run property with a clean new building, kept spotless. Pros: This was a lovely property, the staff were very attentive, always someone available. The room was pretty good sized for that area, the mattress and the shower were excellent. The breakfast was realy good and there was variety, coffee was excellent. Cons: It was a bit far from town, about a 20 minute solid walk with hills. There could have been more hooks in the room for coats The room could have also use another surface, maybe a small table in the corner. But our 2 least favorite things were that the restaurant was far too expensive, and the spa seemed an afterthought (Steam and sauna not hot enough & the Spa Hot tub was not as clean or hot as it could have been.

Stay in Zermatt

Wonderful hotel with wonderful service. Very thoughtful from the staffs and the amenities are just wonderful.

The property , amenities, breakfast , staff and room were all great . Just quite far from the village no transportation past 7pm unless you splurge for a taxi or walk 20-25 minutes downhill and then back up. I would not consider it a ski in/out hotel .

The place to stay when visiting Zermatt

Such an amazing boutique hotel! The service was excellent, staff really friendly and the hotel had beautiful decor with all little details. Loved the spa department with outdoor jacuzzi and our room with sauna and large bathtub, amazing! Also you must have a fondu dinner in the romantic igloos in front of the hotel. Our stay was so relaxing and dreamy, definitely coming back!

I booked a room with a mountain view but was given a view of a wall. When I challenged the staff about this I was informed that ‘mountains are all around’. The staff did change my room after 4 nights. This hotel is not ski in/ski out as advertised. This is very misleading. You have to walk to an area to start skiing and walk back, therefore it is not ski in or ski out. The staff in the hotel seem oblivious to this. Fairly rude staff. Will not choose to stay here again.

A lovely town to walk around. It was rainy & foggy for skiing, but we had a fine time anyway.

The stuff is very friendly and helpful. The place is conveniently located walking distance to a lift station. Room is clean and stylish. They offer shuttle service from and to Zermatt train station for checkin and checkout. Make sure to utilize that.

Oh how we wish we were there more than two nights! They could not do enough for our stay. I had booked the 'economy' room but it was the most luxurious room I have stayed in recently. On arrival, they took our bags to our room and had us sit and relax with a glass of wine of our choice. The food and breakfast was amazing! Zermatt is a lovely town that should not be missed on any trip to Switzerland.
