This was our first time in Costa Rica and we decided to book this hotel last minute and it was one of the best decisions we made, it was a nice small cozy hotel, the people here were nothing but amazing, they were all very nice and caring. I have no regrets about booking this hotel and if I was to go back to Costa Rica I would stay here again!!! Thank you to everyone that works here and specially the people in the restaurant you guys are all amazing! PURA VIDA!
This is a simple hotel in the central location of La Fortuna with a lot of shops and restaurants nearby. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Easy check in. Great breakfast, included. Ashley was so friendly, she made us feel like family.
Nice place in front Arenal! We loved it!
I think most importantly the staff was super friendly and accommodating. They always strived to help with anything you needed whether it was food, reservations, the spa, etc. everything was great and in a great location. Thank you for helping to make our vacation great!
Walk to all the restaurants. Good views. Value for the money.
Such a nice hotel with amazing views! This is the second time in many years I’ve stayed here and I can still say it’s a great hotel for the price. Also super convenient to get around la fortuna without needing taxis. Highly recommend!
Excellent costumer service, delicious breakfast!
Good location. Walkable for food and town center. But rooms are tiny and can use updates.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return to this hotel when we are back in La Fortuna. It is in the center of town with lots of good restaurant option nearby. There is a great open patio to hang out in and the restaurant connected to the hotel is great.
We enjoyed our one night stay. The room was clean and quaint. The atmosphere was enjoyable. It was nice to have a secured place to park. The staff were helpful and with our stay we received a simple, yet sufficient breakfast. It was a fabulous location in walking distance to shopping, drinks, and food.
If you are looking for a five-star hotel with all the amenities, this is not your hotel. But if you are looking for a quaint, well-run hotel that is in the heart that all La Fortuna and the surrounding area has to offer, this is a great experience. I say "experience" instead of "property" because Los Colina's is more than the sum of it's parts. THE GOOD: Great service; perfect location; and a laid-back vibe that is reminiscent of the 60's. You are close to all the area has to offer. There are three floors; the second is a primarly open viewing platform outfitted with tables, chairs, sofas, places to play cards or chess, and a view of the volcano that only a helicopter ride could provide. The other guests were friendly, adding to the vibe. If I was in my 20's or 30's, OR an aging European "Hippie," I would never want to leave. THE NOT SO GOOD: If you are looking for amenities that have become standard in most hotels, some are missing here. It is a three-story hotel, and there is no elevator (the front clerk carried my heavy luggage up the stairs); I was in suite 311, with air conditioning - most rooms have fans for cooling. And my bathroom, although spotlessly clean, looked like it needed to be refurbished for a few decades. Everything worked, it was just old. Summary: If you are looking for the Ritz, or even a Holiday Inn, this ain't it. But if you wish to blend in with the post-60's crowed, and be surrounded with very friendly guests and excellent staff, come here.
Friendy staff
Lovely family owned property in the heart of la Fortuna. Staff were lovely and the hotel as described.
Solo Traveling
My stay at the Las Colinas hotel was very comfortable and safe. I stayed 4 nights and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Any questions or special requests I had they did whatever they could to support me. The restaurant was very accommodating to my gluten allergy, which was a great relief. The street noise is quite loud during the day but gets quiet around 10 pm. Common areas were being upgraded while I was there, which was nice to see the investment in the property. I would stay again, the location was great to see the highlights of La Fortuna!
The property location is excellent and the upper common area is a gem, but a little noisy at night. Staff are very friendly and courteous. Room 28 is clean but smelled overwhelmingly of mildew that dampen our stay. We didn’t ask to change room since the lower common area smelled a little musty also. So we thought all rooms must be about the same.
Liked everything except the Saturday night 3AM motorcycles.
Location is right in downtown and 2 min walk to shopping, restaurants. Beautiful park on the corner. You can see volcano from patio and while walking around town. Really good - make to order - breakfast. If you are looking for seclusion, quiet getaway this is not the place because it’s right in town.
The location is amazing! The staff goes above and beyond to make sure we are safe. One staff member accompanied me to the ATM and bus terminal early in the morning to make sure I was safe. The rooms are great quality for the price and they are cleaned every day. There is also AC! I would recommend. Very safe. The only negative is that it didn’t have very strong water pressure in the showers.
Great location and common areas but poor rooms
The hotel location was convenient, and the staff were wonderful. Bar and restaurant at the property were great. However, the room itself was very bare-bones, and while I’ve stayed at many hotels in Central America, and expected a similar condition, this one had ants in the bed and extremely poor quality air-conditioning. We spent most of our time in the common areas, because the room was extremely hot and unpleasant.
Great staff, free breakfast was a nice touch. Great location, can walk anywhere
Cute little place with friendly staff. Free breakfast was a nice touch
Really nice place, nice staff, and in the center if everything with a nice view of the Arenal volcano from the 2nd floor terrace
Family owned unique charm in a great location
Superb location less than a block from their beautiful Central Park. Restaurants galore and very charming and unique property. Bars and restaurants on two levels. Covered but very open. Room 33 on the 3rd floor has a great view of the volcano but keep your curtains closed as some gawkers come up early to the balcony to snap pics of the Volcano. We wirth it for the view.
The staff was so kind and helpful. Jezer, in particular was fantastic. Lovely people. The food at the bar upstairs was amazing.
Convenient, clean, and friendly staff.
Terrible breakfast & rundown
Worst breakfast ever, toast rock solid, questionable looking meat. Plantin was the only good thing on plate. We were in room 17 which is essentially in the bar area, happy hour 5-8pm extremely loud. The seating area for the bar is right outside our window that's how close it is, can hear every single conversation.
You get what you see. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. The rooms were as pictured and clean. Good pick if you plan on just using your room for sleeping. Super convenient being in the middle of town if you don't have a rental car.
This is a great property at a very good price. We really liked that it is right in the city with great restaurants and stores and even a bank at a walking distance. The cook to order breakfast was really good. 5/5 on location and the staff. Everyone was very nice and helpful.
This is not a hotel! This is a hostel. Maintenance in worst condition. Everything is very very old. The shower room are not suitable for use!
I stayed at the hotel de la colinas and had a terrible experience! The room where i stayed had bed bugs, DO NOT STAY HERE! good location but the mattress are TRASH! Its a cheap place to stay but not worth it!
It was just ok. If your busy doing things a bed and shower is all you need.
Convenient location Great staff Reasonably priced
Downtown stay
This hotel is in town and has been there a long time. It was older, but clean and on a good day would have a great view of Arenal. In the rain most of the walking area is wet, as is the bar. The staff was amazing and handled our luggage and happy hour with ease. The area is on a recovery from Covid and will soon be fully recovered.
The rooms are clean
Honeymoon suite has an airconsitioner right over the bed that drips on your head while you sleep. The tub is huge but the jets dont work. Very convenient to have a bar and food eight outside though. Very centrally located as well. Staff was friendly
Nice hotel we enjoyed staying here so close to all the amenities in the area.
The hotel staff and the bar staff were very nice and friendly. The hotel is located close to the main street and is walking distance to shops, services and restaurants. We are travelling with two teenagers and driving through Costa Rica staying at various cities. Our main reason for booking this hotel was its central location to local attractions and positive reviews on Expedia. We were also keeping an eye on our budget and wanted to book a “good value for money” hotel. This is a ramshackle hotel. The lobby is tucked away into a non discrete room which took some time to find because of the clatter in the surrounding rooms and corridors. The rooms on the first floor don’t have windows and we could see inside the rooms through the doors that were left wide often. Our room was on the second floor near the bar and had a must, mold smell with a mix of sewage. The room amenities are decrepit and the showers area was mildly and dirty. One bed was missing a head board and had bed covers of questionable age and cleanliness. The entire family slept with our clothes on. The room had enough space for two suitcases which when open occupied the entire floor space. The hot water in the shower was a hit and miss. I personally swatted two adult cockroaches and a few smaller ones in the shower. The property locks down after 10pm and you need to make arrangements for the owner to open the door. One night some guests didn’t get the memo and almost broke down the door at night.
Too noisy, musing going and road traffic going well after 11:00 pm. Am traffic starts again at 4:40. There was construction, hardly anyone at front desk and no soaps or shampoos in the bathroom. I had to check out after having two sleepless nights. This place should be dropped by expedia. Not worth the money at all. A canadian and German couple chucked out as we because of the sane reason leaving out others that we don't know of. I asked for the remainder of my payment and was given an answer by a shake of the head meaning NO.
The first thing was how we were greeted, the front desk agent didn’t greet us at all. He didn’t explain anything to us. We had to look for our room because it was hidden and when we asked for assistance, he didn’t want to help us. Do not have a late night check in because parking is down the street in a very dark alley. We also got locked in the hotel and almost missed our flight, we had to leave at 5am and drive to the airport and of course nobody told us we would be locked in. We had to call the tourist police to come let us out. I do not recommend this hotel.
I stayed in the honeymoon suite SOLELY for the fact that this is one of the only hotels with a bathtub. It was a amazing, the view is cool, but the drinks and breakfast was what sealed the deal to make me extend my stay. Also they have a fast laundry service
It’s owned and operated by wonderful Tico family that provides beautiful smiles and great service.
Great location in the town and a really nice staff
Hotel Las Colinas is a charming city hotel. It has free parking in a locked yard. Breakfast was excellent. One drawback is that, being right on the city street, it’s very noisy. There are many restaurants within a few blocks. The staff was great! Yvette booked a reservation for us at Mistico Hanging Bridges with a guide, and it was fabulous. The room was very comfortable.
Great and knowledgable staff. Tasty breakfast. Great room for price! Would recommend.
Clean, convenient location, excellent breakfast. Friendly staff. Nice view of volcano from terrace.
I liked that is in the heart of everything in la fortuna. The room was clean but the bed was short? The parking was off property so you had to unload them walk a couple of blocks back. If you’re not looking for anything fancy, this is your spot. The complimentary breakfast was as just ok.
Mixed
The ladies who staff the hotel are lovely and clearly care about and are proud of their hotel. The breakfast every morning was good and filling. We had an inside room that was located immediately adjacent to the dining room and very noisy starting at 6:30 as the tables were set. The bathroom could have been cleaner, especially the grout in the shower. So mixed: if the room was located elsewhere in the hotel it would have been a different experience but the service was very good and staff were helpful.
Centrally located!
Clean, spacious, good price, breakfast included.
The property is too old with no windows. The bathroom is outdated.
Gracias
It was near the center of town, close to restaurants, shops and the church. The room had a nice view or the volcano but it was very hot even with the AC and air conditioning on. On Saturday evening, it was very noisy outside and hard to fall asleep. The staff could have helped bring you the luggage, but other than they give advice on things to do in the area. For instance, the staff recommended I use uber because it was cheaper. The breakfast was delicious especially the buffet.
This hotel is perfect. Not a lot of amenities and such, but everything you need. I stayed with my family. My young children were entertained with the 2 swings. The included breakfast was delicious. Staff were super friendly. Nearby secure parking was great. Simple, comfortable clean rooms for a great price!
Great Location walking distance to Everything Also the 2nd floor deck was very convenient to lounge or have a drink And the the 3rd floor rooms have a balcony which was nice
Unique parking situation. The parking lot is down the street a hundred meters.
Better Beds Would Be A Plus
The location was close to restaurants and the town park. The only negative would be the beds were hard and very uncomfortable and not enough pillows for two people. There was a jacuzzi in the room, which was very nice. The breakfast included was adequate and the friendliness of the staff was genuine.
This hotel is family-owned and the front desk staff made our trip very memorable and easy. I especially liked the open-air layout of the terrace and rooms.
Nice hotel/great location
Nice hotel with basic amenities. Even A/C which was great to have on a hot night. Nice balconies that overlooked Arenal Volcano and the city. Just off one of the main streets of La Fortuna, so it was nice to be able to walk around downtown. Close to the main square and church.
They had great service at Reception with the tour desk.
This is a semi-shady place, kind of run down, on a side street of the town. It includes breakfast- thigh the coffee was luke warm, the fruit sparse and the egg just ok. It is way overpriced for what it offers.
Average but good
It was good, not much to wow us and a bit more attention to detail would have been appreciated but at the same time no complaints.
No quality grocery store or ATM nearby. No refrigrator/cooler.
The rooms were fine, but the view is not from your room directly. The breakfast could be improved. Air conditioning was very noisy. Overall, it is okay and the cleanliness was good.
Excellent staff, clean room and bathroom. Excellent location.
This is an adorable little hotel right in middle of town. When we got out of the shuttle we were confused and a little nervous. When we walked through the entrance we were so pleasantly surprised. The food was great and at breakfast my daughter made a comment that if there was an avocado on the plate it would be her dream breakfast. The little abuela went next door and got her one. She had avocado on her breakfast every day after. It was so conveniently located and they booked all our tours for us Would definitely recommend this hotel if you’re staying in town.
Reserved the honeymoon suite for 3 nights. Had just settled in when the air conditioner poured water down onto the bed. We moved to the only other room with a king bed, which was much smaller with a tiny bathroom. It was on the 3rd floor but no elevator. It also faced the street and a lot of street noise came thru the windows late at night and early morning. The hotel is built with and "open air" center. Problem: it's near the rainforest. It rains everyday. EVERYDAY. Sometimes extreme downpour for hours. Just stepping from our rooms out onto the walkway got us wet. Breakfast was not that good. Tried to check out to go to another hotel that was just as nice but half the price. They wouldn't let us pay for only one night because the reservation was made through Orbitz and they would have to pay Orbitz the commission for a 3 night stay. We would have to pay for our one night AND the Orbitz commission of unused 2 nights. Same cost as moving to the other hotel. So we stayed and made best of it that we could. Cleanliness was fine. Easy walk to local restaurants, if you have rain gear. So for future reference. If you make a reservation for this hotel, make it for one night at a time. Cancellation must be done 3 days in advance. And bring umbrellas or ponchos.
I had a great stay! The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was also great. It was an actual full breakfast and a variety of options. There is a bar and restaurant on the second floor that was convenient. The location of the hotel was in a great location. Very close to all of the activities and a beautiful park located in the center of the town. The A/C worked great. WiFi was great as well. I honestly enjoyed my stay and it was very budget friendly
One complaint
MY ONLY COMPLAINT WAS THAT THE FRONT DESK OPENED LATE BC THEY OVERSLEPT ( driver had to call someone MULTIPLE TIMES from his personal cell in Spanish) AND I ALMOST MISSED MY PRIVATE SHUTTLE AND FLIGHT BACK IN SAN JOSE which was expensive . STAFF SUPER HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY BUT THIS WAS ALMOST A BIG SCREW UP ESPECIALLY WHEN I INSISTED ON PAYING UPFRONT WHEN I INTIALLY CHECKED IN. Good place for solo backpacking on a budget.
Pleasant hotel in the downtown area.
We enjoyed our stay here, the rooms were pleasant and clean, the staff was helpful and the breakfast was good. If you want to stay in town this was a good choice. Our initial room was located right by the the front door but when we asked if we could move to a quieter location the staff was helpful and moved us the next day. In fact we found over our trip that Costa Rican towns seemed to quieted down fairly early. There was never much noisy activity after about 9 pm
Solid budget hotel that fit our need. Ac worked well, nice rooftop bar and breakfast for the bill
Excellent location with fantastic upper patio view of the Volcano. Everyone was nice and accomadating. Would definitely stay again! 10/10
Good value in the centre of town.
Very helpfull staff. Close to park in centre of town. Clean rooms.
Good location nice staff
Very good
Weather did not help
Hotel staff very friendly and facilities ok but really heavy rain did not help as stuck in our room. Upper terrace very slippy when wet. Never saw the volcano Staff booked a couple of trips but did mess one up and caused us to miss it. We paid to visit one of the hot springs and with hindsight should have stayed at one of the hotels with hot springs for one night as it would ah e worked out the same as staying here and paying an entrance fee.
Convenient & economic hotel with volcano view
I had a lovely room in this hotel, it is downtown, so convenient for restaurants, shops activity providers etc. pack earplugs if you are a light sleeper. I had a car with me, the hotel have secure parking a few min walk away. Friendly and helpful staff, clean room, comfortable bed, air con and far, had a volcano view off my balcony. Nice terrace area!
Great Stay!
I had a great time in La Fortuna and my stay at Las Colinas! It is right in the middle of town which was great. Nice and simple place that had everything we needed. If you ask the front desk they will even teach you how to make tortillas at breakfast the next day which was super fun. We didn't have any problems while staying here and the staff is super friendly. Any noise that was happening outside always seemed to be over by about 10:30. We never had any issues with noise while we were sleeping.
The pictures advertising the hotel make it look much better than it actually is. I would describe it as a hostel rather than a hotel. Be preparerd to be dissapointed with the town of La Fortuna however the activities and views surrounding the town made it worth stopping by.
Wonderful, helpful staff!
Nice hotel in the middle of La Fortuna. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Good location in town, just OK hotel
All the reviews made this hotel seem amazing but it was very mediocre. The rooms are dated but the location of being in town was very nice.
Very nice overall, terrible parking
very nice hotel, big, clean, good breakfast. Bathroom a little small and parking terrible its located 150 meters away, in a place completely desolated, it seems pretty dangerous to leave the car there with no one watching and not security whatsoever plus the walk back to the hotel through dark places isn't nice
Decent hotel for a budget but not very comfortable
He staff were nice, breakfast was decent, and location was in town. The beds were not comfortable and had no mattress covers under the sheets. If you are on a budget it is clean and has a decent free breakfast.
Good location but loud
The room was very loud. The noise is not in the control of the hotel as it sits on a busy street but if you want a good night's sleep look elsewhere. On the positive side the hotel is in a good location for walking to restaurants etc.
Good location but too noisy and old
It located in the center of the town, close to every where you want to go but the hotel it self is old, need lot of work. The room SMELL moldy, extremely hard to breath, mattress is completely sagged, need to replace. Other than that, it is ok to stay one night.
Beachy Hotel
Nice hotel located right across from the beach. Prime location for that. Nice restaurant connected too.
Great price for a hotel with lots of character
We loved this hotel. Staff were super friendly and helped us book local tours. There's a great soda across the street with excellent food. The beds are pretty hard but my husband and I shared a king size bed which gave us a lot of space. There's a little bar on the second floor that makes excellent pina coladas with fresh pineapple. Also includes breakfast.
the room was a little old and spartan but it was clean, the shower was hot and plentiful. Our room was large and there was a nice shared patio on second floor to enjoy view
Right in the middle of town - great location
This is a family-owned business and everyone is just as nice as they can be. I had the opportunity to learn how to make tortillas in the morning - great fun!
Perfect hotel and amazing staff
The hotel is well located in La Fortuna close to a lot of restaurants and sodas. The thing I liked about it was the cleanliness and the amazing staff. They were full the whole weekend and we decided to stay and they even arranged with another hotel so we could stay around the area. I absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and we are planning to go back and enjoy more days in such amazing place. Another thing is that they really care about the environment and its a very green hotel. Thank you!
staff were very friendly. breakfst was good
just a great place to stay. I have nothing too complicated to say pay that.
Affordable hotel, close to everything
Enjoyed our stay at Las Colinas. The breakfast was good, staff friendly and helpful, and beds comfortable. The patio was a little bit of heaven.
With view to Arenal
The location is very good and the staff very friendly and helpful
romance
the staff was outstanding great pool and food the room had a small flying ant problem the moved us to another room
It is very good for a 2 star hotel
The owner is very nice , the rooms and breakfast is ok, but there is a very nice Resturant across the hotel, rainforest cafe, excellent food and coffee. It is 2 star hotel , but the have kept it pretty descent . It is very affordable and excellent location.
Excellent staff for a great budget hotel
The staff of this hotel is very friendly and helpful; most are members of the family that owns the hotel. The location is excellent and the staff can arrange any kind of trips around the Arenal area.
nice hotel
within the city - nice staff, very helpful La Fortuna is very touristic
Nice, friendly and centrally located
A really nice hotel with intersting architectural details, a fabulouse view on the Arenal at a fair price. Friendly sevice
Latin American Trip
Excellent location in La Fortuna with very helpful staff
Vacation
The hotel was good for the price. I don't recommend this hotel for family with children. Is a cheap hotel in good location.
Small hotel with good view
Decent place with decent prices! Good deal in arenal costa rica

It was a good location. Rooms were as expected. Cute little place.
