Friendly and helpful staff. Good location, near to train station. Breakfast was a good spread, and a nice way to start the day.
Great location and staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.
We loved our stay. Great neighborhood. Very friendly team to support us.
Everything was great especially with Sherry and the other young lady at breakfast. But the elevator being broken didn’t help my 82-yr old father when going up to the 2nd floor.
The room was beautiful, they can improve a little bit on breakfast set up. Overall it was a good experience. Thank you so much!
One of our favorite stays in Italy! Staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. Location is very convenient: 7 minutes' walk from Firenze Santa Maria Novella train station, 3 minutes from Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, 10 minutes from Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore/Brunelleschi's Dome. Included breakfast is promptly cooked to order with a wide range of options such as fried/scrambled eggs, Italian charcuterie, breads, cornetto, fruits, cappuccino, etc. Room was clean, comfortable and charming, with fresco ceiling, mini fridge, water kettle, coffee maker. Bathroom was clean and modern. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return!
Excellent location to the train station, clean and efficient rooms, exemplary staff, and healthy breakfast choices
A beautiful historic building transferred into a small hotel, where the staff are personable and facilities, while a bit different are wonderful to be part of in this city. The hotel manager, Medi was exceptional, friendly and knowledgeable - a rare find in a bustling city
Fabulous hotel in a stunning location a short walk from the Duomo. Lovely staff! Would highly recommend.
Ticks all the boxes
Really helpful and friendly staff, big bedroom and the bathroom was great
Hotel La Scala was absolutely perfect! The room was great - the fresco on the ceiling was stunning and such a beautiful reminder of the historic building in comparison to the modern facilities. It was so clean, the bed was comfortable and the air con was so great to have. We had a garden facing room and so there was no noise from the outside whatsoever, but being an old building the walls are fairly thin so something to bear in mind, but I couldn’t fault the room or facilites at all. The staff were all SO NICE, really helpful, very welcoming and more than happy to give recommendations of places to see which was so great! Honestly the sweetest group of people and really make you feel at home. Breakfast was a bit of a worry for me given that it is around a long communal table, but with the time slots in a three/four hour window, we hardly saw any other guests. We’re not massive eaters in the morning so we just went for fruit, croissants and coffee which was ideal for us and it was a really nice touch to have it all included! They have a really good selection of things to choose from though, which you can select using a form the night before. The location is amazing also - only a five minute walk from the train station, and within walking distance to everything you’d want to see in the city. Overall, value for money is excellent, the hotel was lovely and we had the best time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Hotel La Scala to anyone travelling to Florence!
Liked: Walkable to main tourist areas. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Clean. Air conditioner worked well enough. Didn't like: the windows in the room didn't close properly allowing all street noise to come through throughout the night... Even with earplugs it was loud and I couldn't sleep till 2am. Also the city tax was only payable by cash.. Not card.
Noise at night from the outside, a bit like a lift motor or refrigerator which continued for 5 or 10 mins 2 or 3 times per night.
Great location. Friendly front desk staff. Clean rooms.
Wonderful staff, comfortable room
The room was comfortable. A/C worked very well. The front desk woman was a delight and the gentleman serving breakfast provided great conversation during my meal. Very close to everything! Will stay here again if i come to Florence!
The building was very old and its elevator was barely functioning. The staff were very friendly and helpful .
Love the location which is 5 min walk from the train station and 20 min walk to touristy areas. I love the receptionist( Madina) she was supper nice and helpful we wanted to go to mall and she showed me where to book the tickets and she always had a smile on her face. the breakfast was ok even it was prepared to each individual it was too many missed communication, one time they forgot to give us the paper for us to fill and the guy who has mustache working in the kitchen was giving us attitude when I was asking him how the breakfast works here. The way he acted was definitely not nice. And the second day for breakfast the lady didn’t have our paper so we had to tell her what we want. The room was clean and spacious. I like that you can book reservations for the busy famous restaurant downstairs ( Osteria pastella)easily with help of the receptionist. We had 2 dinners there since the pasta was so fresh.
This was a wonderful hotel for a two night stay in Florence. It was convenient for the Train and tourist attractions in there area. It felt safe and was quiet. The staff when above and beyond to make our stay special including bringing flowers on my birthday. Highly recommend.
Not a good place
The Bed & Breakfast is in a busy street and in a 3rd floor. It has a very small and slow elevator. The entrance of the building has a very bad smell. Before our arrival , I received an email requesting to upload our passports and I did, At our arrival, we were asked for our passports to take pictures of them. When I told the woman at the reception that I already sent them, she answered in a non friendly way. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows awful. The bathroom had mold in the shower. Breakfast was good with plenty of selections and we had Andrea preparing it for us. Btw, he along with breakfast is the best of this B&B. He was so polite and friendly and my family and I shared a nice conversation. I don’t recommend this place
Walkable. Close to everything. Good breakfast. Recommend using a white noise machine if light sleeper.
The Hotel was a different experience from a USA hotel, somewhat. It was in what appeared to be an old resident building. Two floors (3rd & 4th) were individual hotels. 2nd floor appeared to be a professional business office. A bit unique but nice. We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very helpful & friendly. The owner of the property also operated a very good restaurant named Osteria La Scala…make reservation if you want to go…
A quIrky little hotel in an old building, nicely refurbished. Very friendly and helpful staff. It’s close to the train station and Santa Maria Novella, so easy to find…. After you get the instructions for getting in! Ice room and big bathroom!
Very strange place to stay. A regular "MOTEL".
There are not enough superlatives to express how much we loved this hotel. The staff really made this place special. Each day they treated us like we had been there forever. The breakfast (included) is made to your order each morning; very good. This hotel was very walkable to many attractions and is very close to the central station. My only regret is that we did not spend more time in Florence. This hotel really was the cherry on top of Florence, thanks to the staff.
A beautiful small hotel, very quiet, and has a staff who is available to help with any matter. The wifi is good enough for Zoom meetings, the location is perfect (2 2-block walk to the historic area), and the breakfast is delicious with lots of different options. The only place I will stay whenever I come to Florence!
Lovely hotel in nice area close to the train station. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. The Hotel also has a restaurant affiliated to it. We ate there one evening and it was really good. Very popular, even in November. You would be advised to book as queues to eat there can be long. Would definitely recommend this Hotel
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We spent time in breakfast cafeteria meeting the staff and having fantastic conversations meeting new people and new perspectives. Close to Mercato Centrale we walked and found many delicious food choices and were lucky enough to experience live music that evening middle of lots of art and basilicas was a nice few days wandering around. I could do without the high end shopping in the middle of the old beauty
We are so happy we stayed at Hotel La Scala for our four-night stay in Florence. We chose this hotel due to the location, but the real charm is how the staff make you feel so welcome. Prior to arrival we received a personalized with details of our stay (not a canned message) and the staff take the time to get to you know you during your stay. Before retiring for the first night, we were asked to share our breakfast preferences from a selection of options, and the breakfast was made to order. This is not only practical to avoid the hotel from wasting food, but the personalized service was a great way to start the day. The location of the hotel is close to the train station and within walking distance of most attractions. A BIG THANK YOU to the staff for contributing to a memorable vacation.
Place is perfect! Close to the train and city center, amazing staff and very clean.
Secure entrance. Main floor area when you enter looks sketchy but upstairs where hotel is, very nicely done. Beautiful, clean modern bathrooms, nice breakfast and very friendly, helpful staff. Very handy to tramway and railway and all sites.
Walkable from train station. Staff is very flexible and reachable via Whstsup. Lift is tiny only one person can go and need to how to get in and how to get out
Great place, it should be a 4 star, not 3.
The stay was nice and comfortable. The staff was friendly and service was very good!
The staff were very helpful and pleasant to interact. Great location; a nice and clean hotel!
Basic but nice. Room was clean. Bathroom was updated. Location was fantastic. Would recommend.
This place is perfectly fine for what it is. The staff is VERY nice and it’s close to the train station and in a walkable area, although not the most scenic part. The rooms are big and the bathrooms are nice. It’s in a 15th century building so it just feels a bit old but it’s perfectly suitable and affordable.
Very nice stay
Wonderful charming place with tons of history. Professional and friendly assistance. Had a lovely time. Thank you!
Great Hotel
Terrific location-friendly check-in and great room. Perfect for our one night stay!
Central, clean, no lobby as it is common in Italy. It is in an old building but inside is very good.
Best hotel we’ve had in all of Italy so far! The staff was very friendly, again probably the nicest we’ve had since arriving a week ago. Good location to most things, great breakfast, room was nice. Perhaps some new pillows, but otherwise no issues.
Service was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful, went out of the way to introduce us to the lovely city of Florence! Excellent hotel overall.
Great hotel for the price. Comfortable room for family of 4. Nice renovated bathroom. Nice breakfast included. Location is great, close to the train station, and walking distance from everything. Importantly, very nice people managing the hotel. Recommended!
The staff were above and beyond helpful and kind to weary travellers. Elmadina and Sherry went out if their way to assist us in anything we required. They should be commended for their work. The breakfast was lovely and gave an opportunity to talk with other travellers. We were happy to have the two single beds. The location was perfect. 10 out of 10!!!
The staff was so friendly and helpful
HOME AWAY FROM HOME LOCATION: * Less than 5 minutes from Firenze train station. * It is exclusive, safe and quiet. * Walking distance to restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions. HOTEL: * It has exclusive and homey vibes. They occupy the entire second floor to limited guests. * Amenities such as; the bathroom and lighting are very modern. But materials used are locally made, with high class. * Delicious and fresh breakfast foods. * Access to the building is hitech. STAFF: * They are the true GEM of the hotel. They are very hospitable. * ELMEDINA, the front desk, is the most beautiful and nicest person you would ever meet. She goes out of her way to take care of you. She is usually off at 9pm. But she extended her working hours, just to personally check me in at around 10:30pm. She took the time to gladly welcome me and orient me to the city. She would check up on me from time to time, to ensure I was having a great time. She is the ASSET of the property. * SHERRY, one of the hotel staff, compliments the warmth and positive atmosphere of the place. She would make sure everything is organized. She would treat guests like family members. I will treasure our morning chats, her delicious breakfast omelet and her sweet smile. Her son, Daniel, is equally friendly and courteous as her. I found a home in them. CONCLUSION: * La SCALA Hotel is more than just an accomodation. It offers home away from home. It renews your body and soul.
Super nice staff. Good breakfast, convenient location.
The staff was super amazing and very accommodating. LOVED IT. I highly recommend. Scott
Staff was very friendly and helpful.
An incredible place to stay. The foom #3 had an incredible painting on the ceiling (a tasteful nude) done i assume decades ago. Friendly staff. There was some issue with the cooling but the staff did their best to correct it.
I want to be kind and generous but negative experience. On a very busy street, with loud traffic most of night. Our room right above Cafe/Bar so LOTS of noise until about 3:00am. AC didn't work properly in middle of July, so it was very long, loud, hot night.
Excellent experience - fantastic location, clean hotel, breakfast included and the staff were wonderful.
Great location, staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to help. They even stored our luggage for the day after we checked out. Mattresses need to be replaced is the only downside
It works.
The hotel itself is nice. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful. The staff is kind and accommodating. Check-in wasn't smooth. Reception is the third floor. We needed a code to operate the elevator and it took a few minutes to figure that out. There was one very small and very very slow elevator. My partner and I took turns in the elevator because we couldn't both fit with our bags. After check-in we only used the stairs. Windows in most rooms face out, but ours (room 6) faced an interior courtyard which contained the elevator shaft.
The people were beyond friendly and the breakfast was incredible both days. We were greeted by 4 fluffy white pups each time we came in. The bed and pillows were comfortable and there was great internet. The bathroom partition from the bedroom creates a bit more intimacy than I’d like , but overall excellent experience. We would stay here again and again.
Why I recommend this hotel:
I loved the unique decoration and style of the room. I had dinner at the hotel and ate the best steak since years. Breakfast is great too, with good coffee and fresh croissants. I also had some special request (due to a reason related to my work) and the staff immediately helped me and made sure I am comfortable. Convenient location close to the station!
Clean, comfortable room in a great location. Good breakfast.
we stayed there for a night. clean, comfortable room and close enough to all major tourist attractions, The guy in the reception was very helpful at checking time.
It is closed to the train station, walking distance and easy to find. It is closed to all the important sight seeing. Is also closed to the train that is going to the airport. It only takes about 20 minutes to get to the airport.
The owners were wonderful! Breakfast was very hood. Housekeeping very good and close to everything! Would definitely stay there again.
Lovely place and fabulous service!
The hotel was in a great location, walkable to all the museums that we were interested in. The room was great and Bijan at the front desk was very helpful. The breakfast was wonderful. Whenever a hotel offers a free breakfast it’s usually just minimal. This was really fantastic- fresh croissants, jams, scrambled eggs, cheeses and meats, freshly squeezed orange and grapefruit juice and fantastic coffees! Lovely place!
The hotel was amazing so so we're the staff we had a fantastic stay and would recomened it to everyone.
Very contemporary feel to the hotel. Would stay again.
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel la scala. The property is beautiful and the host is so friendly and has an excellent breakfast. Would definitely return!
Lo único por mejorar es el ascensor que es muy lento, pero no es solo del hotel si no de la propiedad completa entiendo que no pueda ser mejor por única disposición del hotel.
Great place near Florence SMN station
Convenient location. Clean , Close to all the tourist spots. Staff was very helpful. Great for family stay. Will definitely recommend . They just need to update reception/ front desk timings online.
Excellent
Nice breakfast. Excellent customer service. Suggestion- need mirrors in the room
Great accommodation at a reasonable price
We really enjoyed our stay at Hôtel La Scala. It is conveniently located near the Florence SMN station. Very easy to walk to major sites. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Not the most luxurious accommodations but the positives far outweigh any negatives. Bathrooms were very updated and better than most 4 star hotels. A great place to stay for a quick visit to Florence!
We loved the kind and friendly staff, the rooms had frescos and were roomy for out family of 4. I wish the beds and pillows were more comfortable.
Perfect place on the way, it felt like home, very clean, quiet, well designed, great breakfast, loved it. Will come again
Great place and location
Great location, very clean and comfortable. Great place to stay for family. Breakfast could be improved but very small price to pay for such a fantastic place. Less than 1 mile from Venice St Lucia station. Tons of restaurants and market around. Walking distance to all siteseeing attractions. Check in time is till 8 PM and after that they charge you 25 euros but I would still take this place. Highly recommend.
The room is clean, and the staffs are kind and helping. Basically it's a good hotel. But the amenities are not so good. Maybe it is because this hotel is placed in a very old building, as is many other hotels in Florence.
Lovely staff. Great location. Feels like a bed and breakfast.
The room was quite large, beautiful bathroom, and breakfast was included. There were a few stains on our comforter but otherwise our stay was perfect.
Can’t say enough good things!
My stay at Hotel la Scala was wonderful. The location is super convenient— 5 minute walk to train station, 3 minute walk to T2 tram to airport, very walkable to all of the attractions in Florence. The hotel is clean, bright, and welcoming, and the room was very nice. Daily breakfast is superb. The hosts were friendly and easily accessible via WhatsApp. I would highly recommend staying here for your Florence trip!
Breakfast good. Room small but clean, nicely renovated bathroom with rain shower. A bit unsure how to ensure someone there at checkin, and had to call a few times, but ended up no problem. Phone city code number on Expedia should be (055) not (55).
I love it The Scala hotel is clean, the staff kind, the installation beautiful. Walkable to turístic places. I recomendable
A lovely small pensione type hotel well situated but quiet street. Great breakfast with lots of homemade pastries by the owner. Modernized but retains old character. Spacious rooms. We had a room with two queen size beds separated by a half wall. Great for families.
A Happy Place to Stay in Florence...
Love this place, will return!!! Warm and friendly staff, fantastic breakfast (the owner is a gourmet cook) and beautifully appointed rooms. The colors and decor are fantastic--the currency collection/wall art is worthy of a museum, but done with a touch of humor. Best of all, it's an incredible bargain compared to nearby accomodations--don't know if it is because it is new or if it will always be available at this price point, but this is a great place to stay in Florence. I travel 120+ days each year and seldom find anything so satisfying, no matter the locale or cost.
The owner of this property is so sweet & polite. I wish I could’ve stay longer here, but other plans took me away. I will return to Florence and stay here. Beautiful room, marble shower, breakfast, the works.
A hidden gem
Very friendly staff provided excellent services. They even have a new smartphone in the room for customer to make domestic and international phone calls for free. You may even use it for GPS or online search during your stay. The hotel is on the second floor of the building. Guests must enter the gate and take the elevator or the stairs for check in. It is close to restaurants and a lot of places.
When we arrived early, we were kindly offered a coffee and were able to check into our room immediately. They were also kind enough to hold our bags when we were taking a late train. It was also a great location- minutes from the train station. Please note that you do need to buzz to get in the building the first time.
Very nice experience at Hotel La Scala. Breakfast with Bijan was excellent. Nice showers and bathroom. Original frescos on the ceiling.
Great staff.
It's not a hotel you are accustomed. It's 3rd floor a kind of B&B. Seems like this kind of hotels are common in Florence. Other than that, everything's great with fantastic staffs.
Great room, modern bathroom, friendly staff
Nice small hotel near main train station
Accomodating but for very steep stairs 2 flights up. Good location to main train station.
Wonderful little cozy hotel with great service! We enjoyed everything, especially the personal nature of the service and the good-natured staff. The location is excellent, as are the furnishings. A very comfy place to stay.
Staff were very nice and helpful. Great location close to all the sights and train station. Would recommend to anyone and would stay here again if ever in Florence again!!!!
Location was perfect. The staff so helpful and friendly. Could have used a larger trashcan and a box of Kleenex. Very elegant room!
Excellent service and great location.
The good: Have to say Ergim(I hope I got his name right) at the front desk was the most helpful I have seen. He went out of his way to book museum tickets, train tickets, explain bus routes, while making excellent cappuccino for us. He made our stay in Florence a memorable one. Thank you Ergim for all the help. Location is excellent! Minutes walk to train station and lots restaurants around. Close to all major attractions. Great breakfast, and did I mention excellent cappuccino ? Decent room size, and spacious bathroom. Very clean and comfortable. The bad: None! Overall an excellent place to stay and well deserved 5star.
Great location
Great location
Nice hotel. Good location. 0nly drawback, it’s located on the 2nd (3rd floor in USA) with no elevator. Would stay there again.
Very good location
Very good location
Dancing on the ceiling.
Terrific place. Frescoes on the ceilings!!! The staff was wonderfully friendly and helpful. Close to everything. Had a great time and would definitely pick this place when we go back.
SPLENDID!!!
A Beautiful hotel in excellent location with the most amazing hosts. I'm in love with Room Number 9 and didn't want to leave. It's at walking distance to everything, bus and train station, especially. Morning breakfast is delicious, This will always be my place to stay in Florence. I highly recommend it to anyone.
We loved the Hotel la Scala, as it was a perfect location for the Santa Maria Novella Train station. Rooms were nice and clean and comfortable ,and breakfast was great as well. No elevator, so be prepared to bring your bags up a few flights of stairs!
Best 3 star in Florence
Amazing rooms, clean, comfortable, spacious, reception very kind and friendly
Nice!
Hotel was easy to find. Upon arrival, the hotel staff, Mr. Aragon came down to help take our baggage to the 2/F. He made our stay very enjoyable and was able to help whenever he could. Breakfast was available daily with fresh croissants and coffee. Rooms were surprisingly nice and cosy. Would stay here again.

Cons: We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The first time we saw the room was immediately a disappointment, is nothing close to what the pictures show. The room was very small, no natural light, no opportunity to open the outside window. In terms of cleanliness was poor, the smell to detergent, cleaning products and deodorant spray was unbelievable. Our nose started hurting after 5 minutes of being in the room. We asked the manager to look after this and their answer was “I can’t do anything, sorry”. That is no the customer service we expect at a hotel. Be careful about bringing tons of luggage, the property has an elevator but is tiny and very slow, probably you’ll need to take the stairs always. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel for families. Just solo travelers and couples. Pros: Good area, close to restaurants, coffee shops, main attractions of the city and the train station.
