Gem in Quito

I was staying in Quito for a couple of night en route to Galapagos and found this little gem of a hotel. The hotel itself is an old colonial building which I understand dates from the early 1800s. It is clean, well maintained and the character of the property is amazing. The location is also very good for the historic centre of Quito and the Basilica which is a must to visit. The hotel staff could not do more for you during the stay, everyone was very helpful, friendly and caring. You feel very much a part of the family. Breakfast was top notch. If I come back to Quito again I would definitely stay again and will be recommending Hotel La Basílica to family and friends.

I very rarely review, but then I rarely receive service this exceptional. The staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and safe. The breakfast was.Everything was amazing. This turned out to be one of the best days of our trip! It was so conveniently located to absolutely everything, but I think what made it with the people.

Hidden jewel in Quito, Ecuador

Amazing stay. Their personnel is tops and their location is the best. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to this hidden jewel.

Hotel Basilica is located within walking distance of many sites worth visiting. The historically relevant room was lovely, comfortable and clean. The owners treated us like family. We would definitely stay there again!

people outstanding, friendly, helpful and caring

This is a very beautiful boutique local hotel. The rooms and hotel are accurately reflected in the photographs. The hotel reception and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The hotel host personally walked us to a great restaurant, Runa, around the corner since we arrived late and were too tired to navigate ourselves to dinner. Little touches like fresh roses in the room, rose petals on the bed were lovely. The room's furnishings and artwork are charming and embody a historic clonial charm reflective of the nearby basilica, cathedrals, and main square. Location is excellent for walking to the main plaza, the cathedral, presidential palance, nice restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores, bank/ATM, etc. while feeling like you could observe local daily life of the people. One very nice amenity is that Byron of the hotel reached out in advance to help schedule our airport transfer to and from the hotel and helped accommodate last minute changes to our schedule. Much more convenient and comfortable that using a rideshare app. The driver was prompt, friendly, and made sure we had everything and were on time for our flight. Exceptional service. The only drawback (not the fault of our hotel) was the regional rolling power outages. I recommend bringing a flashlight if you travel during times of outages. We had power for 3-4 hours in the morning and 3-4 hours in the late evening. We were gone on excursions for most of the day time. But there was hot water for showers.

Excellent hotel near the basilica. It is family run and felt very well looked after.

If I could leave negative stars I would. This hotel is horrible . I saw 2 roaches and something kept biting me in the bed. There were no windows in my room and due to the blackouts no fan and no air conditioning. The room was so hot I could barely breathe. When I told staff about the problems they just denied it all instead of trying to help. I showed them pictures of the roach and they said “ it’s not that room “ it definitely was. I left after one night and they refused to refund the nights I didn’t stay. They will not answer any of messages. I have never had such a horrible experience at a hotel. Please stay away !!!

Fantastic hotel privately managed by a very helpful host. Lovely fresh breakfast too. Easy walking distance to all of Quitos historic centre and great restaurants.

Little charm in Quito!

Fantastic little privately owned and managed hotel in the heart of Quito's historic centre. The building is 250 years old and has retained its old charm beautifully. Witjin easy walking distance of museums, squares and historic buildings and lots of restaurants.

Mirian runs a very tight ship and insists on showing guests around the old house. Beautifully kept, the hotel is an old house with two inner courtyards. They are covered by glass roofs which protect one from the weather but after a sunny day, leave the rooms rather stuffy at night as there is no cross ventilation. But there is a fan in the room. Laundry is available and hotel is adamant you don’t use the sinks for washing your own smalls. Breakfast provided was modest but v nice. Very clean.

A charming old colonial era house

Convenient location and a homely atmosphere. The main door is locked so guests need to ask to be let out and buzz to be let in.

There were no issues with our room - clean, everything worked, quiet, comfortable. The hotel is situated in a great location walking distance to many tourist attractions. It is a very unique and beautiful building where no two rooms look the same - you can tell a lot of effort, thought, and care went into its design and upkeep. Mirian is an excellent host, manager, and owner. She truly cares about the guests and goes above and beyond to make sure you have an excellent stay.

We feel so blessed to have stayed here. The hotel is absolutely beautiful, the staff very attentive, breakfast tasty and prepared per request. A great stay in Quito.

Lovely Hotel in Old Quito

Lovely hotel in old Quito. They served a delicious breakfast each day and the staff were very helpful booking day trips and helping us with some other transport we needed. Highly recommend.

Both the hotel owner and her staff are considerate and kind. We had a wonderful time during our visit. For your upcoming trip to Ecuador, we most definitely recommend staying at this hotel. You will love it!

This is a great place to stay in centro historico. The property itself is beautiful and the staff are kind and helpful. The rooms are well maintained. The breakfast selection is limited but delicious. There are a number of nice restaurants and bakeries located within a 5 min walking distance. So, especially at night, when the centro historico area can be a bit deserted, you don’t have to walk far to get a meal.

This is the place to stay when in Quito. We were welcomed so warmly by the front desk manager who gave us a review of the interesting historic roots of the hotel, as well as taking us to the rooftop to give us an overview of the city and where to go. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and the breakfast was amazing. Shout out to Byron and Karla, and the lovely airport pick up gentleman. All in all very glad I stayed here

Well worth the experience.

This is a very different style hotel if you are used to staying in the big chains. We had a family room booked for my family of 3. My son slept in the loft and loved it. The hotel appears to have been completely restored. Lots of old wooden features and art work. There is a wine cellar where you can purchase a bottle of wine and there is a spiral stair case that takes you to the roof and gives you a GREAT view of the historical area of Quito. We encountered rain every night so we did not get the chance to go to the roof and enjoy a drink. Hotel does provide loaner umbrellas cause when it rains in Quito, it RAINS. This is an old hotel, so the floors do squeak in spots but you get used to it. Staff was amazing, they helped us book a tour and transportation. They also made us breakfast every morning with fresh fruit and eggs. Location is great. You are like 5 blocks to the basilica church in one direction, 4 blocks to a "mall" that has great food options. And 2 blocks to Teatro Sucre which is where a bunch of tour groups pick up.

The hotel location is excellent in the historical part of Quito. It is a beautiful place and the rooms are lovely. If I had one negative comment it would be that as welcoming and friendly the staff are, they are also a bit overkill. An unusual comment for sure but if you do stay at the hotel which I do recommend, you will understand.

This is a fantastic hotel! The property is a converted Spanish colonial house and is centrally located on the oldest part of Quito on a main thoroughfare. The hotel is clean, safe a staffed by wonderful, kind and friendly people.

This hotel closes at 9 pm.

The was clean and in a good area. The owner of the hotel has a very bad attitude. The hotel locks the doors at 9pm because the owner wants to sleep. She said that she will not open the doors after 9 pm. So you mist rush to dinner and hurry back to the hotel. She put us out of the and would not allow us to stay in the lobby because we had to leave for the airport at 12 am to catch a 3 am flight.. All customers should know that this hotel closes at 9 pm. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

A fabulous place to stay: very conwnient location; the room and facilities are elegant and unique; staff very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble they went out of their way to make sure my trip was perfect. Gave me a parting gifts and hugs goodbye.

This is a beautiful property and wonderfully kept. Perfect location in old town. Breakfast was great and easy in the airy atrium. They were so helpful with our airport transfers and calling taxis wherever we needed to go. Will stay again if we return to Quito.

Perfect place to stay in Quito!

Enjoyed a lot my stay at Hotel Basilica. All the staff were very welcoming and you are feeling you have arrived to your second home in Quito. Very beautiful inner court and a rooftop to have a perfect 360 degree view on Quito. There is travel agency and a little shop inside the hotel - you can find everything you need to enjoy Quito. My room was very beautiful and comfortable.

Very kind staff! Beautiful property - gardens were beautiful! Roof top was wonderful! Wine room allowed us to get a bottle of wine and enjoy on the roof. In historical Quito - close to many great places and restaurants. Good breakfast

We stayed at Hotel La Basilica for two nights. We arranged for a pickup from the Airport in Quito with them and the driver was waiting for us on arrival. The hotel is spotless and the owner was very nice and helpful. It is conveniently located to all the activities and attractions in downtown Quito.

Beautifully decorated rooms and lobby area, wine cellar where you can purchase a decent bottle of wine for $25. Breakfast included and delicious with great coffee. Easy walk to see the Bacilica .

We were greeted by friendly smiling gals at the door upon our arrival. They helped settle us in and at the end of the evening again greeted and told when breakfast would be. We were leaving early and they offered to make coffee and toast before their normal breakfast hour. Room was very clean and quiet.

I had only one night in Quito and staying here was one of the best decisions we could have made. We flew in late and could have opted for one of the larger well known accommodations near the airport but we really wanted something that had history and location, this hotel nailed it. We were greeted with a shuttle that Basilica had arranged with me prior to our flight. When we arrived at the hotel Ricardo was very polite easy to work with and efficient. Our room was very clean and comfortable. The next morning breakfast was served fresh and timely.

I loved the property and especially the lovely courtyard. The staff was lovely and went the extra mile for us. I highly recommend staying here.

the hotel was great and the staff was excellent. I forgot my phone in the hotel shuttle to the airport and they found my phone, came back to the airport and found me to give me my phone. So fantastic.

This is little gem in Quito. The hotel is in an important piece of local and national history. The staff is amazing and is willing to "go beyond" to provide great great service. The concierge is verry very helpful in all aspects of our stay. The hotel is very clean and shows how the owners and staff have dedicated themselves to preserving the hotal. Breakfasts are great...coffee is really really good!!!If you If you are going to Quito and love history...this is your place. Enjoy!!!

This is a boutique hotel in a historical building that belong to one of the leaders of the independence movement. Each room has a beautiful painting of one of the main churches in the historical center. It is located in the hart of the historical center, and you can walk to all main sites. The hotel is impeccably clean, great breakfast and super friendly and helpful staff. Staying here makes you feel like you have traveled in time, but still have all modern amenities.

Staying at the hotel is like staying in a museum or castle. Awesome customer service.

Delightful hotel. The building is 250 years old and is on the UNESCO historical register. The hotel has been modernized, of course. The owner and the staff were helpful and attentive at all times. We arrived late at night ( am) and left six days later at 5 am, yet they were available for us. Breakfasts were very good (typically coffee/tea, juice, fruit, eggs, pan). The ambiance at the hotel was superb with beautiful rooms and a courtyard. The hotel roof had a great view of Quito. If, and when, we come back to Quito. We will definitely stay there again. Terrific hotel!

Our stay was superb. This hotel is really a big bed and breakfast. Located within 10 minute walk of anything that you might want to see in Old Town.

Lots of rules…

I usually give small businesses the benefit of the doubt and avoid saying much negative. I’ll try to keep true to that but I will say I’ve never been to a place with such aggressive rules (no food or drink in your room for instance) and at least one staffer who is unkind in her enforcement of them.

Very attentive & friendly staff. Clean, well-appointed rooms. Delicious breakfast. They arranged our transfer to/from the airport and dinner reservations for us at an excellent local restaurant. Good location in the historic district for walking to see the sites. We really enjoyed our stay and Ricardo was an excellent host.

This small hotel was almost museum-like. There was a fresco in my room, and artwork all over. The courtyards were like gardens, as well. Breakfast was perfection in terms of both taste and presentation. I could not have asked for better.

We loved everything about it: its convenient location in the colonial area of Quito, the gorgeous and comfortable rooms and public spaces, the delicious breakfast (especially the fresh fruit) and above all the warmth and hospitality of the staff. This hotel is well located and is within walking distance of many sites. Great restaurants are also within walking distance. The interior patio is gorgeous and the entire grounds are very well maintained . The breakfast is fantastic and I was impressed by the attention to detail from the staff. Also, I felt very safe as the staff has to open the door to let people in and out. It was rainy the day I stayed and they even have umbrellas available for use. This was a great stay!

Great hotel & team

This hotel is a protected heritage site perfectly located in the Centro Historico, walking distance to all of the key sights. We stayed here twice (either side of a trip to the Galapagos) and were given a warm welcome by Miryan & Oswaldo and all of their team at La Basilica. The rooms are beautiful and clean and the breakfast was one of the best of our entire 6 week trip in South America! Everyone was really helpful at providing advice about the local area, where to book day trips too and assisting with transfers too and from the airport (it takes a lot longer to get around Quito than we imagined and having a $30 transfer booked to the airport for the 1-1.5hr trip depending on traffic was one less thing to worry about). Special thanks to Jimmy also for helping us practice our Spanish on the journey to Otovalo and back!

This is just an amazing place to stay. Very convenient location in the heart of the historic center, extremely friendly staff, beautiful patio, where delicious breakfast is served - all small details are accounted for and nothing is missed. This hotel just feels like home, and a good one!

This hotel is in the heart of the old town Quito - conveniently located next to all the attractions, restaurants, bars, and shops. The interior has beautiful decor all around. The hotel staff is super nice and friendly. They provided suggestions to explore the area. They also warned where not to go and not to do. The breakfast was well prepared per guests with care and delicious. The room is equipped with all the necessities. The bed is super comfortable. The airport ride to the hotel ($30 extra) was helpful since my flight landed after midnight. I stayed here for 3 nights before my trip to Galapagos and I am glad I stayed in this hotel.

Don’t bother staying here..

People were very arrogant and rude. From checkin to checkout very disappointed…Not worth ithe $$. Front door is locked with no one around so had to hunt people just to get out of the hotel. Had to show the reservation details just to get the welcome drinks…

This boutique hotel is beautifully decorated with murals of historical Ecuadorian sites in each room. It is conveniently located within walking distance from the Basilica and pedestrian part of the Old town. Great breakfasts daily with fresh croissants, eggs, fruits and coffee. The staff, especially Josue at the front desk, is extremely friendly and helpful in providing guidance and arranging for excursions as needed. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quito.

Immaculate room and great staff.

The staff were wonderful! The airline had lost my luggage and they spent a lot of time trying to help me deal with the airline. I was very grateful to them! Breakfast was lovely and the location is great for walking around Old Town.

Great Place in Colonial Quito!

You can't tell it from the outside (there is no sign), but once you enter this refurbished hacienda you are in a magical world. The room was large, spacious, beautifully decorated and very clean. The rooftop deck is amazing for views, particularly at night. But what was most important was the warm, friendly greeting and service from the staff. Also, the taxi service they offer from and to the airport was excellent and cost the same as Uber or a regular taxi. The location is excellent if you want to spend some time exploring colonial Quito. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

This is a very unique hotel. You feel really really at home. Miriam and Osvaldo are wonderful people that do everything so that their guests feel comfortable. If you go to Quito, La Basílica is an affordable and clean place to stay.

From the moment I made our reservation, the great service from Hotel La Basilica began. Byron reached out and offered to arrange a variety of services, including airport transport, day tours, and Covid testing. We gladly accepted, and everything went very smoothly. Byron enthusiastically greeted us upon our arrival and helped us settle in. This is a family run business, and they could not be kinder. Miriam is a sweetheart, as is Oswaldo. They serve a nice breakfast, which they personally prepare. The hotel itself is incredibly charming and historic. The location, in the Historic District, could not be more convenient. Upon our departure, Byron and Miriam personally thanked us and said goodbye. A new home away from home. Thank for a wonderful time in Quito.

Very nice boutique hotel situated in the middle of the old city of Quito. The rooms have lots of artefacts. Mine was with the original ceiling and wood of the owner of the house from 1809. Seemed like frozen in time but very well maintained. Recommended.

We stayed at the Hotel La Basilica for four nights in early February '22 before continuing onto the Galapagos Islands. The hotel is perfectly situated for visiting all the major sites in Quito's historic center. The hotel is a beautifully restored colonial home, just 3-4 block from Plaza Grande and walking distance or a short cab ride from most others. The rooms were immaculately clean, and attractively furnished, mostly with antiques. Miriam and Byron, a mother and son team, manage the hotel and were especially attentive and helpful during our stay. The hotel serves a delicious breakfast each morning with fresh fruit, eggs, pastry, and some really great coffee! I highly recommend this property.

My wife and I were able to get a room through Expedia at this fine VIP or boutique hotel at a very reasonable price. Shortly after reserving a room, I had a very pleasant welcoming email from Byron, the manager and owner of the hotel along with a list of all the services they offer including transportation from and to the airport. This was when we met Jimmy (driver) and his wife and were taken to the hotel where we were greeted by Byron and later, his parents. The hotel is a building that used to be a private house 200 years ago. It was purchased and turned into the hotel by Byron and his family a few years ago. They designed and supervised the transformation into the 13 bedroom unique facility with 18 century design furniture. The rooms and lobby have frescoes done patiently by an artist and made the whole complex so colorful and joyous especially around holidays. Moving on from structure to the services the hotel offers. Each morning, we were met by Byron’s mother who made breakfast for us (included) of a large collection of tropical fruits, great coffee, some type of pastry and eggs prepared to your liking. The hotel doesn’t serve lunch or dinner but Byron will guide you to the local restaurants depending on budget and desire. The facility is very clean thanks to 2 pleasant ladies who kept the room so neat and clean daily. Overall, our 9 day stay was 5/5 in everything. We will miss the place and the family until we meet again.

Everything about our stay was perfect! We felt like we're were staying with family. Great location, breakfast was amazing and our room was perfect! We highly recommend staying with Marina and her family! Definitely 5 star!

Great hotel!

We loved this hotel! The staff was so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home. In fact, they called it our home and even gave us keys to the front door. Breakfast was very good.The location was very convenient to walk in the historic town. We would definitely stay here again!

Good choice for enjoying the historic heart of Quito! Every room of this converted colonial mansion is unique. We loved our room with its two (!) gorgeous murals and beautifully renovated bathroom. Many nice touches such as a carved wooden headboard and gilded mouldings around the ceiling really gave us the feel of being in a historic city instead of in some generic hotel. Good breakfast. Nice view over the city from a little patio on the top. Hosts were very eager to please. No AC and the windows only opened to shared hallways/courtyards, but fan was OK.

Hotel La Basílica is absolutely gorgeous. The pictures barely do the hotel justice. My family was absolutely in awe when we first walked in and we loved hearing the history of the property. The breakfast was delicious and included fresh fruit, coffee, eggs, and fluffy empanadas. The owners were extremely good to us and made us feel like family the entire time we stayed with them. They kept an eye on my 22 month old baby when she wandered around the first floor. They helped us arrange rides to and from the airport, helped us get COVID tests to return to the US, gave my daughter cute little gifts from Ecuador, and they even gave an earful to a tour guide we hired when he showed up 40 minutes late to pick us up. On our last day we had to leave for the airport before the normal breakfast hours, but they woke up early to provide us with coffee and breakfast sandwiches. The level of kindness they showed us was totally unmatched by other places we stayed during our time in Ecuador. The hotel has all the charm of a boutique family hotel but still manages to provide high quality amenities.

We loved this property and the staff could not have been more helpful! We were two couples each booking the front rooms on the second floor called family rooms. The breakfast was great and the sweet lady serving us gave us authentic bracelets. The location is perfect for visiting old town Quito as it is just a few blocks from the Presidential(Palace) square.

2 days in Quito

Gorgeous hotel in a perfect spot in Quito. The rooms a absolutely beautiful; the service outstanding, and the breakfast was excellent. The staff went above and beyond to make our visit a comfortable and memorable one. We will definitely go back :)
