Nice stay with the family. Warm rooms and great water pressure in the winter.
We spent 5 days here, loved this old style hotel with its tiny elevator and giant windows. Rooms aren't big but bathrooms are new and spacious. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Area was safe and quiet, plenty of wonderful dining options nearby. Excellent location for exploring Paris on foot or bicycle.
This quaint old hotel was perfectly situated across from small grocery store and right next to beautiful Luxembourg Gardens.
Solid basic place to stay
No frills hotel, with pleasant service and decent location. Clean and comfortable rooms, plus the usual add-ons. Also, space to store our bicycles overnight, which was a real bonus.
Small hotel w/ basic amenities. Staff is very personable and happy. Very helpful w/ directions. Very good hospitality. Rooms are quiet/location more of a family- neighborhood so very quiet at night in general.
Great location on a quiet street. Close to restaurants and Jardins du Luxembourg. Staff very friendly. Great breakfast! It started at 7am which was perfect for the day we were flying out. Many good options! Decor outdated. Would absolutely stay there again!
This place needs serious updating.
Older hotel, quiet area. Convenient grocery store across the street.
Cute boutique hotel with accommodating staff. My wife and I stayed 3 nights during our honeymoon to explore the area around the Jardin du Luxembourg. We did stay during some street construction occurring right in front of the hotel, which was jarring to wake up to before 7am. The front desk relocated us from first to fourth floor which helped, but with no air conditioning we had to keep the windows open in the summer to stay cool, and the street construction crews were just carelessly loud each morning. All things considered I would recommend this hotel due to the staff's flexibility and kindness, the comfort/cleanliness of the room, and the proximity to the Jardin, Pantheon, and other nearby attractions.
Super clean, committed with customer service even with late check in
Great hotel good price. Mattress wasnt the best otherwise everything perfect
Nice place to stay.
Safe and affordable. Good neighborhood Good value for price. A bit tired and without any amenities. I got a slight shock when I plugged in my travel charger, even running into the phone when it had already been disconnected All of the staff were friendly amd very helpful.
Good and comfortable
Little gem
Really nice, friendly hotel. Good value and a great location. Very comfortable.
Brilliant 3 nights at this hotel, lovely staff, room, bathroom. As a coeliac (GF) the breakfast wasn't very suitable (same as the vast majority hotels) although yoghurt, cheese and ham is available. However the location, 2 minutes walk to Judy café and Le Pont Traversé both of which supply fully gluten free menus make this the perfect location - along with the wonderful Jardin Du Luxembourg nearby.
Very good.
Friendly and helpfully
Very friendly and accommodating staff, excellent location close to Luxembourg Garden, Bulvard Saint Germaine, Monparnass, Sorbonne and more. The supermarket entrance right by the hotel downstairs. Many restaurants and money exchange nearby. Good continental breakfast was included in our stay which was very convenient. Great private shower and a little balcony in the room.
Good value
Staff at the property was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. A good value.
This is the worst hotel I ever stayed in in decades of travel for work and pleasure halfway around the world. They lost my key with no apologies when they found it. They forgot my wakeup call. You only get one towel. They don’t clean the rooms but ask you to open the windows instead. Total amateur is my kindest description
Tres propre, bon petit déjeune, ambiance agréable. Belle petite place à bon prix. Seul bémol... le wifi est très faible... en 2024 ce n'est plus un "nice to have" c'est essentiel!
The front desk staff was very kind and the room was clean and beautiful. There is a supermarket right in front of the hotel, which was very convenient.
Lovely little hotel in a brilliant location - small room but largely comfortable apart from the lumpy pillows on the bed
Nice, clean,
Avoid this place
We are still trying to figure out how this hotel rates 4+ stars in anyone’s guide. The room was like a glorified dorm room, with a shower too small for an adult to use. The soap dispenser in the shower ran out of soap and was not refilled. There was no hair dryer in the room — and no plug-in w/in 10 feet of a mirror. When we asked for tissues for our room, we were directed to a communal box in the lobby, from which we were invited to extract what we needed. We loved Paris but, in the midst of a trip that has taken us from Vienna to Amsterdam, this Paris hotel was definitely the low point.
Nice room, clean and quiet. good location
Great overall stay, messy checkout
I liked this hotel. It was close to attractions and cheap enough with a clean, modern bathroom. The bathroom was recently renovated so it looks completely different than the rest of the room, which was quite dated. We had an issue with checking out. The individual working there in the morning didn't really speak English she tried to charge us in full when we'd already paid up-front on Hotels.com. I showed my receipt and even my bank statement where the money was credited on the day of booking, but she had no idea about it. She didn't even know that Hotels.com was a part of Expedia. We ended up not paying the balance then, but we agreed to come back in the evening since we were to leave our bags and speak with the manager in charge. I ended up calling Hotels.com customer service to tell them about the issue, and to ask them to confirm with the hotel that we were only to pay the tourist tax, and they took care of it. If we had been in a hurry to check out, this would have been a huge problem.
Friendly safe hotel in a lovely area
Bedroom and hotel reception looked a little dated but were spotlessly clean. The bathroom was modernly decorated with a nice powerful shower and there was a kettle in the room and fans that we weren’t expecting. Stayed with my teenage daughter and the hotel and surrounding area felt very safe and the staff were all very friendly. Loved that their was a couple of small supermarkets across the road and its close proximity to the beautiful Luxembourg gardens and St Germaine and Notre Dame. It was also only five mins walk to Metro and bus stops to get to rest of city and felt perfectly safe walking back from them late at night. Had a wonderful time in Paris and would highly recommend hotel if you are in a budget as its a lovely area to stay.
Close to city park and several restaurants, coffee shops and patisserie shops.
Location is good. Walking distance to transportation and shopping. Nice to stroll along the area. We walked to the Louvre museum.
Property getting renovations, quite noisy at times during day. Construction dust occurring. Staff pleasant. Our room aged but functional. Bathroom tight, sink hard to use. Mattress comfortable, but not soft. Grocery across street got early morning deliveries. Otherwise quiet, residential one way street.
An economical choice in Paris
This small hotel is in a nice location, only a couple of blocks from the Luxembourg Gardens, metro stops, etc. There is a grocery store across the street. There is no air conditioning, so the building was warm in July, but a fan was provided and opening windows cooled off the room at night. Wifi was okay but not fast.
Amazing place and location
Excellent location, close to Luxemberg Garden, very quiet and safe. Room clean. Breakfast can be improved. Espresso/Cappuccino not fresh.
Close to Luxembourg Gardens and RER stop, as well as Metro stops.
Good location. Clean and spacious room. Adequate elevator
There is a mini market in front it was useful. To Eiffel tower is a 40 min walk but transportation is near by. Staff was friendly. Room was nice.
Very happy with our stay at Hotel Jean Bart. Room was small but very clean and decorated nicely. Don’t let the lobby and halls discourage you - they have nice rooms. Great location. Staff is very nice.
So lovely. The people were kind and helpful. Perfect easy breakfasts in the morning. Highly recommend for the simple traveler.
Solo in Paris
Nice small hotel in a quiet neighborhood near the train and many bus options. Grocery store right across the street for all your needs. You can walk to many great places within 20 minutes. Tons of restaurants within 10 minute walk. I think my room was recently remodeled so it was nice. Rooms are typical big city Europe size--pretty small. I do not think this place has AC so be aware if you stay there in the summer. Breakfast was pretty simple so you can skip paying for that and just go to one of the many coffee shops in the area. WiFi was great.
simple and relaxed
Just simple, friendly, and in a great spot!
Very traditional French style community and close to Luxembourg park. Walking distance to Louvre and many famous sites.
Nice lovely hotel. Will back again.
Cute hotel
Little very cute hotel. Simple but was confortable. The hotel is located in a nice quarter of Paris and it is very quiet.
A gem of a Hotel
A great place to stay. The room picture does not do this hotel justice. Mine was clean, contemporary and quiet. Breakfast was good. Situated within easy walks of two Metro lines, the Palais de Luxembourg and small cafes.
What a gem of a hotel I stayed with 2 of my daughters for 3 nights. We found the hotel very clran and comfortable in a quiet location, but neat shops and cafes and the metro. Its typically a french quirky building with spiral stairs that are served by a small lift to every floor. We enjoyed the large windows with a juilette balconies unlike the usual generic hotels with fixed windows. The breakfast was delicious and staff very friendly. We will visit again.
Convenient to bus & metro. Nearby cafes & beautiful Luxembourg garden. Hotel Jean Bart was our first choice for a return trip to Paris!
The Hotel Jean Bart is very much a "you get what you pay for" situation. The owners and staff are so friendly and so very helpful that I wish I could give it a 5-star review, but the linens, bedding, and carpet just need a serious upgrade. When your 7-year-old says, "Daddy, someone spilled spaghetti on the bed" the minute you walk into the room, that's ... not a great sign. We removed the bedding immediately, to say the least. None of this is meant to suggest that the hotel is unclean. It's not. The maintenance is no worse than any other hotel. It just needs an update and some amenity investment. It's a wonderful neighborhood, easily walkable to the Luxembourg Gardens and multiple metro and bus stops. At the end of the day, would I stay again? Why, yes, I would. The price is right. The location is great. The staff means well. But ... The quality of the room itself needs some work. I would hope that the owners just put a little money back into their business in 2023. Buy some new blankets. Update the fixtures. That's all.
Renovation please!
This place is in desperate need of renovation. The location is very good, near Luxembourg Gardens and metro stations, the staff is friendly but it has definitely seen better days.
Nice and quiet location
We liked having breakfast available at 7am, as we found it difficult to find cafes that were open early in France. The location was good; we were able to walk or hop on the subway to get wherever we needed to go. It was a great option at a reasonable price.
I have stayed at the hotel Jean-Bart before. When I got there this time, they said that my room wasn't available because it had a plumbing problem. So they put me in a hotel around the corner. That was a little disconcerting, but it turned out just fine because the hotel around the corner was very nice.
Average
The rooms were ok. Ours came with a towel warmer which was nice, cleaned regularly and the staff was friendly. However breakfast that was included was croissants and baguettes everyday - same meal for your entire stay.
I loved this hotel. It is a three minute walk from the Luxembourg gardens and has everything around you needed—grocery store across the street literally which I used and was handy, a pharmacy around the corner, and a wonderful bakery called La Parisienne a couple blocks away. Great walking area near the church of St. Sulpice. The owners of the hotel are so friendly and helpful. Check-in was so smooth. As far as amenities, there was everything in the room I needed. I asked for a hair dryer at the desk and got it. Loved the fact that it has been family run for years. Very clean. Yes,I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
It was a small boutique hotel, and very quiet. The con is that it is old and elevator broke down our last night, and I had to carry our luggage 4 flights of spiraling narrow stairs. Yet I would stay there again, if elevator was working
A family feel, I was very comfortable
Great location, lots of Paris within walking distance. Bathroom was wonderfully renovated and clean, sleeping quarter pretty nice. Only complaint was about the breakfast. It was terrible, only on our last day was there a bit of a baguette and 1 croissant for each person (counted out individually). Otherwise some dry crackers and small packages of the cheapest of the cheap. Would it be so hard to have daily baguette, and maybe a bit of fruit, natural yoghurt and/or cheese? Staff was a bit elusive, but friendly. they let us check out late on the last day, which was very helpful.
ocation
Very good value, clean and quiet. Recommended but - don’t smoke right outside the entrance!!
Excellent location. Quiet small street behind the wonderful Luxembourg Park. Supermarket, bakery, restaurants, metro, all nearby. Stayed with wife and son while I worked 25min walking distance. A basic 2 stars hotel that we all would definitely stay again.
Ugly
Not clean , no service .... just bad and ugly
Staff was very welcoming and the breakfast was nice and light. I would definitely stay here again.
Centrally located in pairs easy in and out to everything. Nice little grocery store straight across the street.
Very good value
Great location for the price. They went out of their way to accommodate us for a late breakfast. Very friendly and great service.
Hotel Jean Bart is simply a gem, located two blocks from the Luxembourg Garden. It's quiet. My bed was comfy. The bathtub had water so hot I used it to make instant coffee. It's a few block from a Metro stop, and close to many many cafes. What's more, there's a fully stocked grocery store right across the street, where you can squeeze your own orange juice. Nothing fancy, has next-to-no lobby, but is easily the best budget hotel I've ever stayed in in any country. BTW After I made my reservation I was surprised to find that Rick Steves singled it out. Also, it doesn;t have air conditioning, which wasn't a problem at all for me in October, but if you have COPD it might be a problem mid-summer.
One night in Paris...
Perfect location close to Gare Montparnasse, easy walk to Jardins Luxembourg and Notre Dame. Plenty of shops and eating places close to hand. Super friendly staff.
It was a nice, small hotel but you have everything you need.( lift included). Location was great, walking distance to Musee du Luxembourg and also to St. Michel area. The lady receptionist was very helpful and accomodating. She tried to explain things in English. Plus, you can leave your luggage at the reception when you checked out early. I highly recommend it to my friends and i will definitely come back to this hotel.
This is two stars hotel and it is as expected for two stars hotel. Staff are great. Great location within of 15-30 mins walking to most tourist attractions. 5 mins away from RER to airport and to two metro stations. Breakfast is nothing except for good coffee. We had breakfast on the corner of the street in the nice cafe. Two supermarkets on the same street to get water and fresh fruits. You get what you pay for
Older building but still had good amount of room to move around for 3people sharing. Lovely staff, very helpful. Good location
Fantastic location, quiet room, good bed and shower, and a perfectly simple, very French breakfast to set you up for the day. Big fan of Hotel Jean Bart.
The hotel was perfect for our stay. We needed a family three-bed room and ours was on the fifth floor with a great view. The bathroom was tiny but it was clean. We wanted to see Paris and the hotel was in the perfect spot. Close to the metro, the RER line to CDG, opposite a small supermarket and Luxembourg Gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful. My grandson has already said he wants to stay there next time we visit Paris.
STAFF WAS WONDERFUL. KIND ,HELPFUL,DID THIER BEST IN SPEAKING ENGLISH TO HELP US. GREAT LOCATION WE WALKED TO LOUVRE MUSEUM AND MANY OTHER LOCATIONS. TRAIN WITHIN WALKING DESTAINS. ONLY THING BAD NEED A SHOWER CURTAIN, SHOWER WATER ALL OVER THE PLACE.
Super location. Short walk from the Luxumburg Gardens
Location is close to everything. However, room is not comfortable. Service is poor.
Good location had free computer breakfast good staff friendly
Wonderful and convenient location. Staff is very helpful. Nice breakfast. Very reasonable price for this location.
It is what it is
This hotel could use new mattress and stronger WIFI reception. We were on the 5th floor and there is no wifi service at all. The staff are all friendly, our room is clean but too small, which is most hotels in Paris. For what we paid for, the least they could offer is a working WIFI throughout.
Friendly people.
Staff was super friendly. Area is great. Mattress was firm and very comfortable. Hotel is old and hasn't been updated, but I don't care about this things. Very nice people.
Great location in a relatively safe neighborhood in Paris. Easy access to the subway, directly across the street from a small grocery store. The room was a bit worn and dated
The hotel is near so many places. People at the reception are very kind and helpful. Plus, they do offer good breakfast, extra charge, for those who would like to eat there. A grocery store is very conveniently located across the hotel. Jardin de Luxembourg is walking distance away. Not good timing when we arrived as the elevator was out of order and we were given a room on the third floor. We were two seniors and could hardly carry our bags up the stairs. I pitied the guy at the reception who brought our bags 3 flights of stairs. Thank you so very much for doing that. Next day, however, the elevator was back (and all throughout our stay). Nonetheless, we still requested to be moved to the first floor.
Paris
Staff very helpful. Bathroom very nice, mattress, bad, breakfast fine.
PERFECT IN PARIS
THIS SUPERBLY LOCATED BOUTIQUE HOTEL, JUST TWO BLOCKS OFF LUXEMBOURG PALACE GARDENS IS A LATIN QUARTER GEM OF GREAT VALUE AND EXCELLENT SERVICE WITH FRIENDLY STAFF AND EVERYTHING NEEDED BY EITHER A FIRST TRIP COUPLE OR A TWICE A YEAR VISITOR TO PARIS, AS AM I.
Did not know what to expect
It was great. Everything was just awesome.
we almost moved, but your customer service person who didn't speak great english had a hard time trying to help me find another place. the lobby was strong with cigarette smell when we came in. it was dark and there were papers and brochures laying around askew. when we asked about twin beds, which were specifically ordered, they said they had none. then they checked us in to a room on the 4th floor. then they told us that the elevator did not work and we'd have to walk. my traveling companion could not go 4 floors (he is 70 and has breathing issues). so i asked if we could upgrade or find a room lower. then they gave us a room on the 2nd floor. a very small double bed, very small room. the hotel is dark, old and we really wanted to move somewhere else. in the end, we just stayed, but it really affected my traveling companions stay.. he was upset the whole time. the hotel should not have offered twins if they didn't have them. to rate this a 3 is really not fair. it's a 2 at best, maybe less. i was disappointed with the hotel and with expedia.
Bad experience
Bad experience. Only good thing was the location, safe quiet area near the Luxemburg gardens. The elevator did not work so we have to climb 42 circle stairs to the second floor, which was so difficult for me with an artificial hip. When I ask to change the room the older man on the reception answered that there is no free room with very bad English language /I saw 2 free room cleaning on the first floor/. I pleased him to call anybody who speaks English 3 times, but he started shouting on me on French … What a hospitality. Cleaning – Only bathroom, not the room. Dust on the shelves and drawers from the first day. Very bad smell in the bathroom.
Traditional Parisian hotel
A quaint traditional Parisian hotel. With helpful and polite staff.
Major problem in this multistory hotel was broken down elevator. Condition of sign on elevator door expressing regret that it was broken suggested that it had been there for many days or weeks. Staff said (kindly) that they hoped it would be fixed by end of our 3 day stay. No indication when we left that they had even started. I suspect that this may remain a walkup hotel for years to come
We arrived at check-in after a terrible over night flight from NY. The only hope I had is to check into a quiet room and have some rest, but that didn't happen. When we arrived we were told that our room is on 4th floor (which was actually 5th) but elevator is out of service! We decided to explore the area, while elevator is being fixed. So when we came back we were told a few more hours. We asked if someone can help us with bags, we were told nobody is available. 5 or 6 hours later I had to have an argument with one of the receptionist to get our luggage upstairs! One of the man at the reception kept arguing that I had to help him! I told him that one of the reasons I paid for this hotel was elevator! The room itself was decent size but it was extremely outdated. I've never stayed in 2 star hotels in my life, and will never do that again. Entire hotel/rooms are very old and outdated. Carpet was stained, beds were very uncomfortable (you basically sink into it, it felt like foam). Windows were good, but we had to keep them open because of old smell in the room. And to make things worse there is a construction right cross the street! The only positive memory is Felipp, who works at the hotel. Extremely nice, and helpful man! Always had a bug smile. Oh and No Wi Fi on 4th floor either! Do Not Stay Here. I think its extremely over priced for what u get, and u get no Elevator, No Wi Fi and No Sleep because of the construction site (noise is 24/7)!
Broken elevator, great price/location, minimal
If the hotel was working I likely would be giving this a great review. There are a LOT of stairs and we purposely picked a hotel with an elevator. No AC but there was a gorgeous breeze from the window. The only issue was the seemingly empty quiet street was very loud at night. Only one employee spoke English and she wasn't always around so that was difficult as well. We were unhappy and then remembered how affordable the hotel was for a weekend in Paris in an amazing location. Would I stay again? No- because the elevator being broken was horrific. Would I recommend to friends? No. Do I regret our stay? Also No. It worked for our needs and anyone on a budget should consider - you are in Paris after all you spend hardly any time in the room. But check if the elevator is working
The room was as presented on the site. There were some hairs on a side table and the floor had some debris. The beds were hard and low to the ground. If you like a firm mattress, it would be great. I still slept well. It met our needs for sure. There was a market across the street which was great. There is NO WiFi in the rooms. You have to go to the lobby.
Chic stay on the cheap
Boutique hotel that is located in a very desirable location. Staff is attentive and friendly. Great price compensates for lack of air conditioning.
They don’t have everything offered
The rooms are clean and it’s near 3 metro stops but they don’t have a/c or WiFi even though both are offered on their website. Also, they never cleaned our rooms. Weird
Located on a quiet side street. Comfortable room, decent breakfast. Some remodeling in the reception area, so some dust, but otherwise very good.
Cute hotel
The hotel was in a very cute area, near Metro, shops, restaurants. It was very cute. Rooms were very small, but that's normal for Paris! Beds were comfortable. Room was clean and cute.
Comfortable small hotel
Very central. A few minutes from Rennes Metro. Little balcony. Nice bathroom. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Love the Hotel Jean Bart!!
I love this no frills hotel. It is small, clean and homey. No air conditioning, but a rotating fan is provided. Breakfast is extra and you will not find a better croissant. The managers of the hotel are friendly and can recommend necessary things like where to change money and where to eat. Walkable distances to so many attractions and subway stops nearby. It is a plain, Old World style hotel and may not be what some people might like - small and slow elevator - no business area or gym facility. I loved this hotel on its small, quiet street and I will definitely go there again.
The little hotel is very nice and quiet. The room is clean and comfortable. The staff is nice. The location is very good. There are several markets around so you can buy grocery very convenient.
This hotel's strength is its location. Its right next to the Luxembourg Palace & Gardens and in a very pretty area. There's also a franprix grocery store right across the street. The staff is super sweet even though they are not fluent in English. The rooms are clean and provide what is necessary. The only negative is no A/C. They do have a fan in the room. On cooler nights ; its not an issue. But coming from USA ; A/C isn't really an amenity but rather a standard.

I've searched over the last 30 years for a quiet, affordable, convenient hotel in central Paris. This was all of those things, plus comfortable and friendly. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
