Nice old property in a fun part of town.
Hotel has character with pluses and minuses
Good location a block from the Embarcadero and the Ferry building. Nicely updated bathroom, comfortable bed and nice linens, towels. Very old building and the floor of room is very sloped!! Maybe not all that way? I checked in late evening and didn’t want to ask to switch! The floor above creaked when the hotel guest walked around their room!
Great bay bridge views if you can get the right rm
The front desk staff, Juan and zashi (?) were excellent and treated us so well. The bay bridge view room was perfect. Pillows were too think/big, but other than that, a great stay!
The location was great. I loved the room which was bayview with so much to see. There were several annoyances: bathrobe and towels with holes in, curtains that wouldn't open properly, bad carpet stains, a toilet that wouldn't stop flushing without the handle being jiggled about every third flush. Staff in general very warm and friendly.
Disappointed—Not a Boutique Experience
I booked this hotel expecting a charming boutique experience, as advertised, but it fell far short of that description. In hindsight, I wish I had stayed at the big-box convention hotel for my conference. The room itself was a major disappointment. While housekeeping was fine, several issues made for an unpleasant stay. The HVAC blower had a persistent squeaking noise that continued into my third night, despite requesting a fix. The room lacked carpeting, giving it more of a budget motel feel rather than a boutique ambiance. The shower handle worked well, but water flooded into the bathroom. Furniture was visibly worn, switch plates and the thermostat were pulling away from the wall, and there was a frustrating lack of accessible outlets. The bed was extremely soft, making it uncomfortable for a good night’s sleep. The one positive was that the room was quiet—no street noise or disturbances from neighboring rooms. However, that alone isn’t enough to bring me back. Given the misleading description and subpar experience, I won’t be staying at this property again.
Good location
Very old and small
No room upgrade was available. Even though there was plenty of vacancy in the hotel. Room was dark and no window. Would not stay there again.
..
Beautiful, clean comfy!!! Would totally recommend!! Great part of SF! Loved the brick walls, shower, bed!
Our guest has stayed in Griffon a few times and all previous stay was good. Unfortunately, this stay was unpleasant and we would like to bring to your attention. He shared the following, "The room I had was not good at all! It was so small that there was no room for a chair or desk to work from. In addition, the bed was sitting on top of a metal frame that made noise when you moved, I also had to request an extension cord to have my phone near the bed. It wasn't good. In hindsight, I should have requested they change my room. My room number was 205. I hope moving forward I can stay next door at the other hotel or at a minimum, a better room at the Griffin."
The list of room amenities for the deluxe queen room falsely stated that it included a desk. The closest to a "desk" the room had was a hard surface in the window well. There was no chair, no room for a chair, and the surface was too low to use while standing, making the surface unsuable as a desk.
Solo traveler. Absolutely loved and felt safe. Will be returning!
Great location, friendly staff, clean rooms. We have stayed many times and find it to consistently meet our needs.
The property is overdue for a refresh.
Weekend trio
Bay view suite was an excellent space with a wonderful view.
Parking
Stay away
The hotel was run down and dirty. Needs an update badly. Tiny rooms, poor AC didn't keep the room cool, even on a cool night.
Exceptional Service – A Stay to Remember! Thank you Zami! From the moment I walked into Zami, at Hotel Griffon in San Francisco. I was met with an unmatched level of warmth and hospitality. As this was my first stay, I wasn’t sure what to expect—but the experience far exceeded anything I could have imagined. Zami, truly went above and beyond in every way. From the very first interaction, they made me feel valued and welcome, anticipating my needs before I even voiced them especially as it was my birthday and we were celebrating Valentine's Day. Even during the busy weekend due to all star game Zami kindness, attentiveness, and genuine enthusiasm for making guests feel at home set the tone for my entire stay. Every detail, from check-in to the personalized recommendations, was handled with such care. It’s rare to find someone so dedicated to ensuring guests have an exceptional experience, but Zami did just that. Whether it was their attentiveness, professionalism, or the little thoughtful gestures, they made my stay nothing short of perfect. Because of this outstanding service, I will be returning regularly and will be highly recommending Hotel Griffon to my friends and family. It’s not just a hotel—it’s a place where guests are truly valued, and I can’t wait to come back. A heartfelt thank you Zami and entire Hotel Griffon team for making my first stay an unforgettable one!
Amazing!
Easy to explore
Rooms are fairly tight and not a lot of space but the beds are comfortable and well put together. Could use an update of the tubs as they feel old and super small. The location is fantastic. Close to so many great spots and very walkable.
Ideal for what we needed Transport links to attractions ideal Perrys food was really good open all the time The hotel bef was the most comfortable I’ve had in a hotel
Love the brick walls, quiet, nice to have Perry’s downstairs
A great experience. I will be featuring your hotel in my popular vlog. Staff nice, clea , safe, close to Sak and all the stores I love.
Super nice staff
Really quiet and calm and comfy bed
Great location, good value, friendly staff
The staff was very friendly and helpful Zami & Juan were great and the young woman at the front desk was also very helpful. We really enjoyed the location, close walk to the Ferry Building and the Embarcadero BART station. Our previous stay we had the bay view, which had a beautiful view. Not available on this stay. Rooms was compact, very clean and very nice decor. Will definitely stay here again.
The view of bay-view room is excellent! Walkable distance to ferry building and many restaurants.
The room was comfortable and I had a great view of the bay. The room is a bit dated, but it comes with being in an older building with some historic significance. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
I enjoyed my stay and everything within control of the hotel
Great check / lobby staff / reception. Housekeeping was quite loud - i was trying to catch a nap after a long week- alas, no.
Not a great stay
Troublesome check in. Difficult parking garage and low ceilings so no bigger SUVs can fit. Small small rooms.
Beware hidden fees and dated building
Booking through hotels.com I figured everything was paid for upon my arrival but I was hit with a bogus “amenities fee” of $20 extra a night which I did not want in the first place. I pretty much paid $40 extra to have a danish in the morning…. This hotel also seems very old. The elevator is small and dated. I stayed in a room on the 4th floor and the room literally seemed slanted. Yes, I repeat slanted. The room itself was clean but pretty small. The shower and restroom were ok. A big issue I had was you can hear everything in the halls including other guests. I could also hear a ton of noise and foot steps above my bed on the 5th floor at various times throughout the day, night, and early morning. The location is the best part about this hotel as it’s pretty close to the Ferry Building. Also on my final day I’m pretty sure one of the house keepers knocked on my door and walked away at 9am to rudely wake us up even though I had a “do not disturb” sign on the door and checkout was at 11am. Overall I don’t think I would stay here again. I don’t usually write reviews but this one needs to be exposed for the bogus “amenities” fee and how dated the hotel is.
Uncomfortable bed
The room was small, the bed was very uncomfortable. The location was great.
Last minute trip to San Francisco for a medical emergency for my wife who had a lung transplant 5 months ago. We have stayed at the Griffon a couple of times before and found the rooms clean, the staff exceptional and the location perfect touring and eating. Zami checked us in and made our stay extra special with his contagious smile and over the top service. I would highly recommend this hotel!
Wonderful Staff
Extremely friendly front desk staff
It was a great location. The bed was comfortable and clean. There was no fridge in the room which was inconvenient.
Fabulous view from my room. Room amenities were great. Very comfortable. Well connected to public transport. Only complaint was the lack of communication between staff about my pre-arranged late check out.
I was charged a deposit for a one-night stay at your hotel. It has been more than two weeks since I checked out, and I have yet to receive my deposit refund. When I contacted the hotel, they claimed they are checking on it, but there has been no progress
This hotel is terribly run down. The room was so cramped we could barely move around. I will never stay here again!
I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I was only there for 1 night and it was quite pleasant
Nice quiet place to stay.
The staff was incredibly friendly and the building was in the perfect location. I will definitely be back!
Service is great! Perry's has great drinks and food. Price is high for how small the room is but it SF. Great place hotel still!
Really slow check in. Our rooms weren't ready even at our 3:50 arrival and one of the rooms we had booked on your platform did not appear in their records. After some back and forth we got our extra room that we had booked and we did receive upgrades for our inconvenience.
bed so comfy, it bites back!! (bed bugs)
they have bed bugs. . . i was bitten all up and decided to end my stay early. i wasn’t even there for more than 8hrs. & i do feel like the property knows this is an issue bc when i went to report why i was ending my stay early (ie due to the bugs) the representative at the desk did not seem to be shocked. they also had the temp in the room really high. the representative did kindly tell me to reach out to hotels.com since i booked with a 3rd party for a refund (which is was given). all in all, just beware that you may have critters staying w you too. check the beds, pillows, and small cracks of doors. spray. . . no drench bedding with alcohol or bed bug spray. the hotel is in a decent location but tbh no one wants to deal with bed bugs so just beware!!! maybe even bring a trash bag to sleep on… or in :)
Beautiful view of Bay Bridge, excellent room. Very walkable area quite, though very close to Ferry Building and BART. Will definitely stay here again.
I didn't like the $20 daily fee - not sure where that fee was paid for - filtered water? They had morning pastries in the morning but they were dry and stale. I would rather have bought my own and they can remove the water/pastries/coffee service.
Room was very small. Not enough room for us and our luggage. But was in a great location and the staff was amazing!
I have booked almost all the hotels in San Francisco in the last two years. I have never seen such a great service comfort in coziness and care from staff. As this hotel definitely will come back if I could I would give 10 stars. Best Christmas, my kids had. and this would make sure I had it.
Love the place. Will surely come back
Great location for a weekend getaway!
Nice little hotel...
Cute hotel, great location - particularly for access to Embarcadero/Ferry Building. The bathrooms are tiny! The sink is in the bedroom, not in the bathroom. I was traveling solo, so it was fine for me - but I think if it was me and my partner, it would be too tight for the 2 of us.
Love the bay view and location. I dislike the sink outside of the bathroom facing the bed.
We enjoyed our 2 night stay. Comfortable bed, great staff. Close to restaurants and transportation.
Nice Stopover
For a one-night visit to SF for a family event, it was very nice. Easy to get to, check in was breeze, room was very good, everything as advertised. The lack of parking was an added cost but I new it going in.
The service
I travel a lot in Europe & I also read the description of the room, but was surprised at how TINY the room was. There’s a desk, but you can’t use the chair without being an acrobat. It was clean at least. And that wasn’t what bothered me the most. What bugged me was that before I even came, I was sent a message asking if I needed anything else. I commented that I wanted to extend my stay 1 day & have late check out. When I arrived last night, the man at the desk said I had to go to Expedia to add a day. I asked, couldn’t he just book it onsite as a new reservation? There was no one around, he wasn’t busy, but he told me I had to get the morning team to do it. I explained I had a super early morning appointment, but no. So… I guess I’ll book a room at another hotel tonight. It’s a shame. I like historical hotels & like the proximity to the Ferry Building.
Cute hotel but an older building with slanted floors in the room. Need better water stations as we had to go to the third floor each day too get water.
The location is awesome
Always great!
Overall experience amazing
I found it to be a classy environment. The people that worked there were very kind. The restaurant was really good as well.
Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Ok for one night
Great spot. Nice rooms great location
All in all a fantastic stay in a fantastic location. Everything was close by and the staff was amazing.
What I like was it was walking distance from the piers. Love the view from the hotel.
Rooms too small. Bathroom too small. Difficult to adjust temperature in room. No breakfast except dry pastry.
None
The staff was great. My disappointment was when they didn’t ave my room upon arrival and sent me to their sister property for one night and had to transfer back to the original property. This was inconvenient, however both properties went above and beyond to make me feel appreciated as a guest.
Na
Great stay
We’ve stayed here before last year and it looks like they’ve done a remodel to the rooms since. We had the one bed and suite and it was very spacious with a nice patio. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful
Great location by the Embarcedaro. Very walkable and close to transit
I paid more for a top floor king suite. WIndows to nowhere and the place is avaragely appointed at best. This hotel needs some love.
location was great
My standard Queen room was very basic. A room only large enough for a queen bed. It only had 1 nightstand and no desk. There was no art or decor. The bed was comfortable, but the springs in the base made noise every time you moved. The location was very convenient for my 1 night business trip.
Waterfront fun.
Lovely old hotel well located with a Perry’s on the ground floor. What’s not to like?
A Nice Stay
Very enjoyable stay here, close to everything, and we will stay here again.
Excellent staff.
Great location good food and bar. Room upgrade was said to be given to us but we were disappointed if that was an upgraded room. Small, dingy and view of a brick wall 2 feet away.
Great little hotel. Felt safe as a solo female
Great stay, right by the Bay Bridge. Hotel was good, bed was super comfy. Everything was clean. The restaurant attached was lovely and the food was great. Only con is that there was no conditioner in the bottle in the shower but I had my own so it didn’t really matter.
Good location. Rooms are small. Room needed to be cleaned better.
Excellent service at the front desk
This was my 3rd visit to Hotel Griffon. It’s a convenient location across from the Embarcadero and near Market. Plenty of public transportation around. The hotel itself is clean and quiet with friendly, helpful staff. Mornings are nice with decent coffee and muffins/pastries. I tried Perry’s restaurant after returning from the Hardly Strictly Festival and had a nice draft beer and well-made Reuben with sweet potato fries. Definitely worth a stop.
Excellent location
Clean, comfortable room. Only drawback was needed a clip for the curtains when the emergency light from the building next door came on and light came thru. Great parking garage across the street was a bonus! Will absolutely stay here again
Nice and clean
Very small room, clean, quiet, great location, priced reasonably
Great location. Awesome amenities. Great staff who takes care of customers
A very average place. Don’t bring a service animal. They make it difficult. It’s not cheap and has seedy hallways and janky elevators. Rooms are renovated, but something isn’t right.
Maybe keep looking in the area. This place is okay if you get a cheap deal, but their normal prices are absolutely not worth it. It's an old shabby hotel that has renovated the rooms. Furthermore, they claim to accept Service Dogs, but they make the process very complicated and follow you around like a hawk afterwards. Not pleasant. The bar downstairs is okay—some quirky fun bartenders. I say book The Harbor Court—next door, same pricerange, and way more pleasant.
Great bed and pillows, a lot of walkable shops including oracle park. Was charged a $20 convenience fee after room was paid for.
no microwave no fridge
Good Hotel experience. Room was updated, clean and comfortable. Restaurant for dinner was nice. Good location for event at oracle park. 25min walk
We loved it!
Noisy air conditioner, with no ability to leave fan on, and vibrating noise starting at 3:30AM, made for a very poor night's sleep. Everything else was great, but you can't sleep there's no point in being there.
Ideal situation
Perfect place to stay for easy access to ferry and baseball park, many excellent restaurants. Room was very small - given we were staying for four nights, we should have booked a larger room. Overall ideal location, especially as we did not have a car.
Location was great! Water dispensers on each floor were perfect for refilling bottles. Only downside was not having a fridge in the room, but overall enjoyed my stay.
great view and location, better if there was parking and better breakfast
Check staff was wonderful Gladys

Friendly, Clean, Comfy! Walking distance to Amtrak bus stop. Quiet. Small rooms--but fine for one or two adults. Perry's restaurant is good with fair prices! Near South Beach and Oracle Park!
