The location was great . Walking distance to ferry terminal and 10 minute bus ride to station . Have stayed at the Grand Duca on 3 occasions and each time delighted with the view over the harbour .
Pleasant Stay at Hotel Gran Luca.
This is the second time staying here. Our room was on the second floor and had a balcony we could go out on and eat, relax or people watch. Very enjoyable. Chairis was so pleasant and helpful at the front desk. No matter how many times we asked questions or directions, she answered them with a smile. Sending a shot from the front of the hotel at night.
We stayed here a couple of days before taking a train to Rome. Rooms were clean and we were right across from the port. Everything we needed we could walk to. Charis was so helpful at the front desk.

good experience
Rooms were clean and comfortable. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Location is perfect if you are catching the ferry. The downside is that there is no parking and you are on your own to drive up and down streets to find a parking spot. If you park beyond 8 am and don't pay you will get a ticket.
There wasn't any parking. Giovi the waiter in the restaurant was unprofessional The hotel is in front of a seaport. Advertising for this hotel is deceptive
Enjoyed our stay here the reception staff were very helpful. Rooms were immaculate highly recommended
Hotel is nice and convenient to catching the ferry. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and nice. The con: There is no designated parking. You are basically on your own and must pay during parking hours. It is near a 4 plex movie theater so finding a parking spot at night is very difficult.
The staff was friendly but hotel and rooms smelled , there was no air condition, there is an elevator but it doesn’t connect to all the rooms - you have to walk down some additional stairs and I have a bad knee so was painful. Location is decent if you can walk . Would not stay here again .
The hotel is fine. Wasn’t the greatest. Front desk was helpful. Restaurant isn’t great.
Ideal for port
It was a functional stay to visit and spend time with family who live in Livorno. Just a bed really.
Great spot. Great building. Great staff.
Historic locale with friendly staff.
Historical design updated with new amenities. Friendly and helpful staff.
Location is convenient if your business is downtown or at the port. Parking is a big problem though as it is practically nil.
Overnight in Livorno
Great overnight stay in Livorno. Hotel was in great location and although rooms were small, it was adequate for one night. Staff were helpful and overall we were quite satisfied
Not worth
Location was convenient for us, but overpriced for what they had to offer. The restaurant attached was pricey and for every amenity the hotel had they charged extra (i.e. to use the pool it was an extra 12 euros per person).
Good Choice
Great location, good staff.
Just satisfied
I expected a nicer room when staying at the Gran Duca. It was very average. Bathroom was quite small and towels changed each night (really! is that necessary when the planet is suffering so much). The pillows were hard and uncomfortable.
Livorno
Hotel was nice but a little dated.
Good location to explore
Ideal for city and port and travel to other amazing places Great room Nice breakfst. Good service
Clean, comfortable, dated but noisy. Street noise is very loud. Information and directions to hotel shown on confirmation was wrong and it took far from the hotel initially. We finally located the hotel on the web to find out where the hotel was located.
Great hotel
Friendly staff. Clean good sized rooms. Close to restaurants and ferries to Corsica
Short Stay
Very nice employees, great location and nice rustic Italian feel to the hotel.
Disappointed
This was a good hotel, conveniently located to the city centre and to ferry docks. On arrival, we were given a 10% discount card for use in their restaurant. When we went to eat at 7:20 pm, we were told to come back in 15 minutes as the kitchen was not open. This seemed odd as there was a large group being served in part of the restaurant. On our return about 20 mins later, we were asked if we had a reservation. We replied no and we then told “well the restaurant is full”. It was evident that they were preparing for a second large group. It is evident that this hotel particularly caters to large groups and really is not interested in individual travelers.
Stay here if staying in Livorno
The hotel was in a great location, close to the port, shopping and plenty of attractions and food options. The food at the hotel restaurant was really very good- have the Octopus!!! You won't regret it. They were very helpful arranging any transportation I needed, too. Only criticism is the wifi was very weak in my room on the 3rd floor, so I had to do my work in the lobby.
A convenient spot for a night
We bot off the ferry and spent a night nere. The note Was perfect for our needs., And we are always happy when we have an elevator.
Mire like a Motel Carpet in stairwell Hasnt been cleaned in what seems a few years Rooms ar what you would get in a pub But counter staff where verry nice
Potential not realised
This has the potential to be a really nice hotel but it seems that a lot has been left to age and ware. The hotel make a lot of their personalised toiletries but I fear that if more was spent on the upkeep on the and less on something quite meaningless, the hotel would be much more appealing.
Great location, clean affordable suite.
It was our second time to this hotel. The suite is really good, nice view, good shutters to make the room pitch black. Well located, decent breakfast included with delicious espresso coffe.
Easy from Port
Great hotel for a post-ferry trip from Sardinia. About a 1/4 mile bag-drag, but pretty short considering. We were very happy with this hotel and the breakfast. AC was terrific in late August. Dinner at the hotel resto was excellent.
The room they gave us was VERY small and claustrophobic. After requesting a change we were given a "triple room", bigger but with an extra bed making the room really crowded. Hotel is very old and shows its age in not a good way. Staff was helpful.
Walking Distance to Port of Livorno
Room was a bit dark, but a skylight in the ceiling had a cover that did not close properly, so it let the heat in. The air-conditioning was weak and never went below 23C, which is far from cool.
pretty hard to make Livorno pretty. But building was old. No update for a very long time. Clear its a ferry terminal port but not a lot of effort to modernise this hotel...
Did the job well.
Arrived by train on the way to Corsica. Taxi from the station was €12 and the ferry was 500m easy walk. Location is on the water front of a busy port but was reasonably quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was small, very clean with a epic shower! Great for 1 night.
Nice
Nice and friendly service by the staff
will stay again
nice room, location, breakfast and internet connection
Great value for money
Ask for a room overlooking the port. We arrived in Livorno on the Grimaldi ferry from Barcelona. We were late and it is very unusual for the ferry not to be late, but we were given a friendly welcome and able to get a drink from the bar. Our room was large and comfortable.
Excellent hotel but let down by the staff!
Overall our stay at Gran Duca was fine but it is clouded by poor staff and a particularly bad incident when checking out. I had paid in advance yet when it came to checking out we were told the payment had been cancelled and the bill would need to be paid again. Perhaps my lack of Italian didn't help but the reception girl when checking out was short tempered, unclear and could give no explinations as to why our payment had been cancelled. I eventually paid on the promise I would get the money back if charged twice, however when we turned our backs and started leaving the recpetion girl said very sharply and boldy a phrase which ended in "porta". I may be wrong but I believe her comment was "don't let the door hit you on the way out.." Other than this we had an excellent junior suite room with a balcony however there was no minibar so we couldn't enjoy a drink on it. The restuarnt staff were very rushed and gave us very little attention despite the restaurant being quiet, however when the food came it was absolutley delicious and the wine the waiter had recommended was outstanding.
Noble building
Set in a period local castle, this hotel is well located. The restaurant is very good.
Quick stay
The hotel is centrally located and close from my business. The breakfast very basic and pretty plastic. Internet is an additional cost - low but complimentary should be standard. The lunch/dinner restaurant is VERY good - enjoy it!
Expensive hotel bit tatty just average
The hotel is given a four star rating. This is more like a three star. Our room was extremely clean and airy but the aircon was intermittent. The gym and pool is tiny and was only open on request and was 9 euros each. It was tatty and crammed into a lift space. Breakfast was average with no hot eggs etc and no toaster just cold stuff. The location is ok as it is right on harbour but there is very little to do in Livorno. The staff range from helpful to abrupt. Ok hotel but too pricey for what it offers.
Very Nice with a few suggestions for guest
I have stayed at The Gran Duca a few times in recent years. The staff is always helpful and will speak English quite well. The restaurant is very good, make sure you get the risotto with cuttle fish ink. 1 Warning there are rooms that do not have windows due to the construction on the old wall. If this is important to you please check your room type.
Good enough...
I stayed on business and alone and under those conditions the hotel is just fine. In fact, if you need to stay near Livorno city centre, I can't imagine there is a better option available. There is parking in front of the hotel, and very good access from the main road from the airport to the North, a good restaurant in-house, and the service is solid. Some other reviews mentioned "the noise". It is near a main road, but I had no problems with the noise once the blinds were down for the night - and that would normally cause me a problem. I would have no hesitation in going back. You certainly don't want to go here for the exercise facilities (one very small exercise room). But the quality of the room (a "superior") and the restaurant more
Albergo quattro stelle in posizione strategica e caratteristica, molto confortevole seppure d’antan.
Tutto perfetto!camera,personale e facilità a spostarsi a piedi
Bellissima
Skøn beliggenhed
Skønt beliggenhed, lige ved havnen og indkøbsmuligheder. Lidt slidt hotel.
Good view, bad food
A clean and spacious room with an amazing view overlooking the harbor. The restaurant looked good, but served very okay food. The breakfast was crazily sugary to the point that I wanted to go get tested for diabetes afterwards. The staff in the restaurant was a bit rude.
The Noise from the streets and other rooms are loud
Okay… internet was slow for My needs
Bad service and fake about gym
The hotel states that there is a gym at the hotel, even pictures of a gym at their website, and thats why we chosed this hotel. They haven´t had a gym in 2 years! When we alerted this to the reception at check in they were really nonchalant and we got no compensation at all! Its also very hard to find parking space at the hotel. We will not come back
Struttura sita in ottima posizione all’inizio della zona centro della città
Datato e migliorabile
Ottima posizione.
Pulizia,ampia camera aria condizionata ok
IN PIAZZA, ottima esperienza
Davvero un buon hotel in piazza. Camera piacevolissima.
Ottima posizione, stanza comoda e spaziosa, ristorante ottimo
Pessimo su tutti i fronti. Non è per niente un quattro stelle. Camera piccola, vecchia e piena di polvere.
Ottima posizione e camere comode, in negativo...nessuna informazione in camera e colazione penosa.
Tutto quasi molto buono.
September 2019
Perfect location, nice hotel, very friendly staff
Ok
Helt ok. Varken mer eller mindre. Dålig frukost...

Solo trip
Hotel was in a great location with easy access to public transport, first night I arrived didnt get a nice welcome from the guy who was at the reception but the other ladies at the desk were smiling and welcoming in the following days. The room was clean and cleaned everyday from what i observe. I was disapppointed that the room did not have a kettle and tea bags, I had to ask to get a kettle the 2nd day and tea bags were only given that day and the following day out of the 6 days i stayed there. No iron was in the room either. I was also very disappointed that there wasn't any full lenght mirror in the room which made it difficult to check my appearance before heading out, so had to rely on my phone camera and the elevator mirror while going out to check my attire for the day. The room was very small overall, l didnt have much space to move between the window and bed or the chair and table to bed. Area was safe and had the sea front to sit and relax and watch the sunset. I would recommend for location and cleanliness.
