The location it was close to the train station and other touristic places in Rome
Out of the way, not close to main sights. A/C didn’t work right and had to have a luke warm shower as water was not hot.
The Manager saw all of our luggage and say that do not fit in the room. Totally different to the pictures they show on line.
BEST HOTEL IN ROME
Best place I stayed during weeks of working in Spain and Italy. Ended up staying again a week later, without a second thought. Beautiful room, great safe, great area. Will 100% stay again next year when working in Rome.
BEST Hotel in Rome
Second time staying here -- originally booked the discounted green room, upgraded to the luxurious red room. Great view of the French Embassy, comfortable bed, great shower, very stylish, strong wifi, and a decent street parking in a seemingly safe area of the city. Great place to stay during a hectic work trip with the style you'd expect when you think of Italy. Staff was very friendly as well. Get a room on the nicer red floor and you won't be disappointed. Green floor seemed decent and clean enough for a nice night when pinching pennies.
Nice people working there . Good location close to the train station even walking.
He rooms are tiny, but wonderfully old world. Clean, neat and very confortable. Breakfast was included with many choices. Bus stoo directly across street. All buses go to Termini Station giving access to all of Italt at your fingertips!
Really pleasant front desk staff - all of them. Very nice breakfast and a good location.
It wasnt a 4 star hotel it was a room in a residential block two doors away and entered via the street using a yale lock. it was dark unkempt and just plain dirty .
Check in was disappointing, was told in a rude way to wait while he talked to his friends for 30 minutes. Gave us a room next to the hotel, you need a key to open the wooden door with a worn out lock. which takes a bit of magic to open. The aircon and bathroom fan is so noisy, it is difficult yo sleep with the noise level. Fittings and fixtures are old and outdated. Breakfast is below average and the staff at reception doesn’t know what customer service means.
2/3 star, not 4. Typical European hotel. Good location.Just to crash for the night.
Close to roma termini and includes breakfast. Italian and greek restaurant close by
Great hotel, well decorated cosy rooms, & cheap
Great stay. The hotel is a 15/20 minute walk to the tourist sites, which is fine. There is a bus stop directly outside the hotel if you dont fancy walking. The room was small, but for Rome we found it to be well decorated and cosy. The shower was great and we slept very well. The breakfast was also good- it has everything you need and Raul the man working in the restaurant was super nice. We managed to get this room on Hotels.com for less than half the price advertised on booking.com!! so it was a real bargin. I would 100% stay here again
Good stay in Rome, not that close to tourist place
The staff is very helpful and nice! The check in was a bit slow, but because they take care to explain and say local tips and only 1 person is in charge of this. The room is very small, the beds were very comfortable. The bathrooms are clean but very tiny shower! the water temperature was good. Great breakfast!
From the moment we entered the hotel the staff were so helpful and friendly. We had a superior room which I would recommend. Breakfast was very good with a great choice of food and the gentleman who was there every day of our stay was very friendly and helpful. Walking distance of Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain with a great selection of restaurants close by.
Nice hotel stay in Rome
Room was very clean, the bathroom size is ok, the water is hot. Just wallpaper and curtain looks old. This hotel location is great, easy to get everywhere. Staff is friendly. The breakfast is continental, lots of choices.
Nice Hotel.
Good hotel with nice amenities. Although it was close to centre, I wouldn't rank it as a top location. Wifi did not work properly. Really liked breakfast- different options to choose from
Huge Disappointment......
Went there with a reservation from Hotels.com and were told that they were fully booked so made us walk to a different cheaper hotel to stay there for the first night. Service was abysmal staff was rude and consistently unhelpful, breakfast was a joke with a broken coffee machine and a huge wait in line for a tiny pancake (the line at the coliseum was shorter). Room was dingy and old fashioned with one single plug socket a broken AC and the view was of a dilapidated back ally. Construction work woke us in the mornings followed by yelling in Italian. Location was fair as it was in Rome but not in a nice part.
Breakfast could have been better. It would be nicer to have pots of tea or coffee rather than a machiene. The machiene is slow and only gives you small portions and you have to keep getting up to get another cup. This is bad. I’m
Perfection
I had a very good stay,The hotel is perfect every thing was fantastic we had a great time and the food is delicious we will come again soon
Rome as it used to be
A lot has changed in Rome since I lived here 30 years ago. The Gambrinus has just the right mix of old and new. It feels old but works well -- well taken care of.
Happy but tiny...
The hotel was clean with friendly staff but the room was probably the smallest we’ve stayed in out of all the hotels across North America and France.
Román holiday
Awesome hotel ! Best breakfast ! Will return
Good place to stay. Close to train station if you chose to travel by train to other places of interest. Exsellent breakfast with great variety of food.
Love love love Roberta and David!!!
My trip was almost one of the worst experiences of my life...I won’t go into detail but suffice to say that Roberta and David’s hospitality is unparalleled. I can’t imagine staying in any other hotel if I go back. The location was perfect and I can’t say enough about the hospitality. Grazie Roberta and David!!! Love you guys :)
Ideal location far weekend away
I stayed here with my daughter for a weekend away. We walked everywhere and with the Vatican being furthest away at an hour walk it was ideal for us. The room was lovely and comfortable. The staff were very helpful especially with recommendations of places to eat. The breakfast wasn’t the best I’ve had but there was plenty of choice and you’re not paying for a 5 star hotel. It set us up well for the day. I will definitely recommend the hotel and I’d happily stay there again.
Small but ok
Was ok, the room was economy size which is ok but I had to lift the case over the bed to have space to open it. There was an over powering use of room deodorisers both in the lobby and room. I had to open the window to air the room after cleaning.
Good hotel in Rome
The hotel is not fancy, but clean and is well-located,about a 20 minute walk to via Veneto, the Trevi Fountain is a bit further and lots of shops and restaurants nearby.
Great location
The hotel is well situated, walking distance to many restaurants and main attractions(Trevi fountain, museums, etc). The room was typical sized for Italy, very clean and we had everything we needed. VG got breakfast, huge selection of food, the staff is especially helpful.
Cost hotel
Nice hotel, friendly staff. Wasn't massively impressed with breakfast spread especially 1. No labels and 2. Things finished by 9am when I went down. No regrets!
Trip to Italy Wedding
Good Experience. Would have like to had opportunity for Soad Vending Machine. Was not happy that I had to Pay Premium Charges to watch movies on TV, even 15 to 20 year old movies. While rates were good.
They gave us room very close to the noisy lift . The worst room in the hotel. I have to keep begging them to change the room after 5 days they finally change it. The cleaner admit it's was very unfair and have not seen anything like that. Someone who's staying for 8night could get such bad terrible room. I developed serious chest pain because of the bed .I had to buy another ticket to fly back to London for medical attention. Just came out of A&E now. ..Was at the hospital for 10hrs today.
Great value; great location
Clean room, helpful staff in a non-tourist area within 10 minute walk to both metro lines. Unbeatable price.
In heart of Rome.
We were desperate for a decent place to stay in Rome as we hadn't booked a place in advance. This hotel was moderately priced and provided the amenities we expected. The rooms are small but very comfortable. Breakfast could be better in that it was either their buffet or nothing. Within walking distance off several tourist attractions. Great suggestions for dinner, by the hotel staff, for dinner.
Being Central in Rome
I love walking in cities, and it's easy to make good walks from the Gambrinus: you can walk to the Borghese Gardens in 15 minutes, and continue to make something of a grand circuit through several notable neighborhoods. Breakfast was very good. The staff was helpful, even helping me order email concert tickets they printed for me. The single room was the problem. Much too small for real comfort. I found myself having to push furniture around to be able to move myself. If you choose this hotel and suffer any claustrophobia, be sure to ask for a larger room. This problem led me to question the four star rating.
Lovely hotel close to Termini Station.
My friend & I choose this hotel as it was close to Termini Station & easy walking distance to places of interests. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Rome, weather was fantastic & people were friendly and helpful. Loved the fact we were greeted at the Hotel very late at night as they allow a late check in time due to flight times. I would use them again and recommend to friends & family.
good location
Hotel is clean, decent breakfast and friendly staff. Only downside being the very small room, and a snag when I got there (safe not working and not repaired). Other than that it is an ok hotel.
Good quiet location. Very central.
Staff were very helpful. The best Gelato in Rome is nearby about 100 meters from the hltel.
Only Needs a Thorough Cleaning
For the price of the hotel, I would have expected it to be updated with newer furnishings. There was dust and dirt behind the bedside tables and around the small refrigerator. The location was good and the rest of the place worked well for our needs. The staff worked with us and allowed us to have an early check-in. Staff was pleasant and professional.
Lovely Hotel in good area for sight seeing
We loved this hotel stayed in a beautiful room with beautiful Deco and the shampoo made my hair shine wish I had asked about bring some back. The staff all went out of their way to advise and help with what ever we asked for advise on resturants, taxi, etc. Would love to return to this most beautiful and romantic looking hotel.
Good hotel
Good choice clean comfortable easy access to public transport to all of Rome's attractions. Would recommend especially if you want to avoid the frantic centre of Rome.
Convenient and centrally
Enjoyed it. Really centrally hotel. Good service. Very helpful staff. I will stay again in the same hotel. Keep it up.
Shower was small but otherwise great stay
Small yet friendly.
Above and beyond great!!! Loved the attentive staff , always willing to help out with any inquiries . Multi-language front desk; Italian, English, Spanish. Walking distance from historic Rome
Friendly and helpful staff
Comfortable stay. Very helpful staff. Breakfast food good but breakfast room very basic in basement. Wifi kept dropping. Would have liked a relaxing lounge to go to in the evenings before heading out to dinner.
Good decent hotel Ideal location for visiting Rome
Clean hotel definitely a 4 star
Room was really clean and smells good, nice sheets and pillows and service was amazing. Hotel was decent but they did not have shampoo and lotion, just plenty of liquid soap . Hotel is close to bus stops even though I think is far from center. Breakfast was a delight just make sure you have to be there before 10 am because they take all the food away exactly @10:00
great hotel
central to all Rome sights
Would stay here again
The hotel is located in a terrific area. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and attractions. Rooms are small by North American standards but clean . Shower is the size of a telephone booth but we managed. Our room was by the elevator so it was a bit loud and annoying. The staff were great! Informative and their suggestions were valuable. Be aware about ordering cab for airport transport. We had to hail a cab on the street as our driver was delayed. Attractions were on average 2 kilometers away. Breakfast was great with a good variety of food and pastries. We would consider staying there again but this time we would upgrade to the larger suite.
Good one but not in center
I was stay just few hours the staff was good and hotel nice but far a way from center
OK
Ok in general, 15 minute stroll to metro station but bus stop to city centre right outside door. Good breakfast, rooms and bathroom quite small but all adequate. All staff speak english and are helpful. Hotel quiet, a few restaurants and Gelateria Romana nearby.
Good location for the city
The hotel smelt like BO and the rooms are very small
Great hotel
I stayed in a single room and loved it. Full breakfast options (eggs are rare in Italy), super cute room, and though small, very clean and comfortable. The only downfall is the distance from sights and Termini (about a 10-15 minute walk), but the prices are lower accordingly. Highly recommend!
Great Hotel in Great Location
Very pleased with this hotel - located centrally and with good restaurants nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.
nice Hotel close to the train and bus stations
A very comfortable Hotel, lovely breakfast, excellent choice/selection of variety of food....plus some bubbly as well. would certainly go back there....
Rated 4 stars but really only 3 stars
Not a bad hotel, but suffers from a general need of updating. Rooms are small, but not unusually so for Europe. It was clean and kept clean. Front desk staff was a bit confused at check-in, but polite and helpful throughout our 5 day stay. Breakfast was very good and the staff at breakfast was wonderful.
very good hotel
The other good reviews were right. This is a good, comfortable, well-located hotel with a truly memorable breakfast!
Nice breakfast
Nice hotel. Great breakfast too.
Great staff
We've stayed here twice and really enjoy it. The breakfast is fantastic, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Our only criticism is that the wi-fi is very poor
Great value and excellent location
We stayed at this hotel for 3 days and really enjoyed it. The location was great and within walking distance to most of the attractions. The hotel staff were always helpful and eager to be of assistance. Our room was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the breakfast buffet that was on offer with a good choice of warm dishes. Overall it was a superb short trip and value for money.
Good location and very clean
We stayed for five nights and overall it was a good stay but I wouldn't consider this a 4 star hotel. As other reviewers have said the rooms are small as are the showers but this wasn't a problem as we were only in our rooms to sleep, shower and get back out into the beautiful city of Rome. We had two rooms which were interconnected, one of the rooms was tiny and the other slightly bigger. Both were well furnished and kept very clean throughout our stay. We didn't have hot water for one of the days but this was put right when we told reception and one of the minibars wasn't working, we soon discovered it was just the plug not being all the way in, neither of these issues was a deal breaker just annoying. My biggest gripe was that we had very little natural light in the rooms which made it very gloomy and difficult to read maps etc. even with all the lights on. The receptionist that checked us in was very helpful as was the porter that took our bags to the room and the breakfast staff were good. Breakfast was a huge array of food which covered all tastes and expectations. The lift is small and slow and on the last day we discovered the stairs, just wish we had found them sooner! We also found the bar on our last day but this wasn't an issue as there were a couple of good shops just a few doors away stocking all manner of drinks and snacks. It is in a very nice area with some excellent restaurants nearby, which was good as there is not one in the hotel.
Budget and location friendly central Rome hotel
Small and cosy hotel ideally situated in central Rome, just 15mins walk from Termini station, 30-35mins from the Colosseum and Palatine Hill, and a few minutes from the splendid Spanish Steps, Trevi fountain etc..Friendly staff, full of useful titbits, clean and spacious rooms (Classic), nice firm beds, and hearty helpings of English and Continental-style breakfast
The front desk was helpful with the location during our stay. But the room is old and run down. There a door that lead to the next room and I can see into the other room thru the key hole. So there is no privacy. Second, we got charge for missing towels when we check out. We talk to the maid and show her where all the towels are at but she didn't understand. So make sure you count all your towels and separated them before you check out because they will charge you $10 Euro plus...
Perfect Location
The Hotel was a perfect location for us to explore Rome; its not too far away from the centre but its not too close so that everything nearby was too expensive. The hotel rooms were clean and tidy and were cleaned daily if you put the sign on the door so say that you wanted the room cleaning. The staff were lovely and friendly and had no trouble helping us with directions when we needed them. Overall was pleased with our stay at Hotel Gambrinus for what we paid for the 5 nights, however the only thing we were disappointed with was that the restaurant only serves breakfast and room service and the bar is quite limited.
Restaurant central
The highlight was definitely the very helpful, courteous and friendly staff and accessability to a variety of great local restaurants. Reasonable walking distance from train and tour buses. Only problem was rather small room with little space for luggage.
I did not like being put into the building next door for the first night until we complained. Lights kept going off. We had paid for Classic room b
Good location, very friendly staff.
This hotel has a good location, 10 min walk from Termini. Breakfast is excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful. Standard room has tiny shower, however the room has a safe and a very comfortable bed.
Good location for exploring Rome by foot or bus
We spent two nights here and would certainly have no reservation in recommending. The breakfast was excellent and so well presented with a good selection for most tastes. Staff we're very helpful with touring advice and immediately responsive to one small issue we had in our room. TV remote not working, replaced within 10 minutes.
A value choice that needs a new lobby but gains virtue for its quiet amid buzzing Roma.
Good value for a weekend break
Had 4 nights here for a sport + culture weekend . Near enough to city centre to be able to use Public transport or taxi ( but too far to walk in to the main sites ) Rooms were just big enough , but still had all that was needed for the time we spent in it . Staff couldn't have been more helpful for travel advice etc . Enough local and good restaurants close by .
Great hotel out of the centre
Compact but good room, only drawback was the balcony overlooked the sad inner courtyard. Good breakfast choice and quantity. Nearby restaurants and bars good and non-centre prices, 5mins to termini 20-30 mins walk to main city sights
well pleased
I had never been to Rome before, so when I booked this room on-line, I was a bit nervous. Some of the reviews mentioned small rooms and the slow elevator. Neither of these were a problem for me. We stayed in an economy room and it was good size as far as I'm concerned. The bed was comfortable, the room was quiet and the black out curtains worked so well that I over slept my first day. We were on the 4th floor and never had to wait too long for the elevator.
Functional Hotel close to Termini railway station
I have stayed twice in the hotel which is something of a recommendation. Its chief advantage is its closeness to the Termini railway station. Otherwise it is a perfectly functional hotel: clean, efficient and warm in the winter. The single rooms are rather cramped. I add a cautionary note about the breakfast.
Comfy beds and great restaurant across the road
The hotel room was clean, the beds and bedlinen were very comfortable, and our room was very quiet, despite being on the first floor overlooking the street. The bathroom could probably do with an update, but it was very clean and everything worked fine. The hotel felt more like a 3* than a 4* though. The breakfast was a buffet and was good in terms of providing a very wide selection, so all 3 of us (me, my husband and our 9-year old son) found something that we enjoyed each day. The quality of the food was nothing special though. The downsides of the hotel were minor: the Wifi wasn't reliable and only worked sporadically; the TV didn't work. During breakfast, the waft of bleach from the kitchen wasn't too pleasant, and on a couple of occasions we had to ask for new cups as they smelt of bleach, nice! There was an excellent restaurant immediately across the road. We arrived quite late on the first evening, so it was great to have somewhere decent on our doorstep. We even went back there for lunch on our last day. Delicious pizzas, pasta dishes and puddings, and lovely staff. There was also an ice dream parlour at the end of the street. We didn't try it, but it looked lovely and was always busy. I would possibly stay here again if I got a good deal on the price as the things that are important to me (comforable, clean and quiet) were all there.
Don't do it
Would def not rec. small rooms, small and right bathroom. No air con working. The street is very rough and no tourists nearby. More a residential area. Stay away.
Old part of Rome
We were completely satisfied with the service, we could not stay in the hotel we booked because of some sort of problem with the hotel but they transfered us to a sister hotel and completely looked after us. The service was excellent.
I would rate this a 3 star hotel not a 4 star
When we arrived (1 hour after the check-in) we were told to wait for 5 minutes. After 25 minutes I went back to the check-in desk and told our room was ready but it would be another 5 minutes. The day before leaving the hotel we had them book a taxi to get us to the airport. The next morning we were waiting (along with another couple who had also booked a taxi) for over 30 minutes before our taxi arrived. I was not impressed at all with the organization with the staff at the front desk. I also found that they were not very friendly. I also am not sure how this hotel has a four star rating. In my opinion, it deserved no more than 3 stars.
definetily not a 4 star hotel
THE STAFF IS VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY, THE ROOMS ARE TOO SMALL THE BATHROOM DOESN´T FEEL CLEAN, THEY CLEAN IT EVERY DAY, BUT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH. THEY ANNOUNCE IN INTERNET THE LOCATION OF THE HOTEL IS JUST 600 METERS FROM VIA VENETO, THATS NOT TRUE, YOU NEED TO WALK 10 TO 15 MINUTS, THE LOCATION IS NOT BAD, BUT NOT AS THE HOTEL ANNOUNCE. THE BREAKFAST INCLUDED IS VERY GOOD, BUT THE RESTAURANT IS AN HORRIBLE PLACE.
Not a 4 star hotel
Premium TV = only English channel BBC News24 Limited Room Service = bed covers not changed in 3 days Free Wi-Fi in rooms = definitely not in rooms Bar area = 4 single chairs in a small room If you're looking for a central location 3* star this is good but not a 'bargain' 4* by any standard. Direct buses to most main locations from directly outside the hotel which was not highlighted by staff when asked
Nice hotel but quite basic
Nice hotel but quite basic. The staff were great but the hotel was a little out of the way. Lots of walking. Saying that it was a very safe area and breakfast was good. The staff spoke good English and were really helpful. Great to have a safe in the room and a fridge all free of charge. Shame you could only watch world news as the English Channel.
Exxcellent hotel - conveniently near Roma Termini
Air conditioning in one of the two rooms was a little weak but otherwise everything was excellent.
Great Service and Location
Fantastic service from the front desk. Breakfast choice is great and very fresh. Well done to the management and staff of Gambrinus Hotel!
Good but not exceptional
The room was clean, staff helpful, and breakfast good. Some of the features of the hotel seem to be needing a upgrade in the near future, but everything is in working order. It's a 10min walk to the near Metro station and 15min walk to the nearest main attraction of Rome.
Overall impression good - I recommend it
Everything was good but the hotel Staff were excellent - in all aspects. friendly, flexible, helpfull etc.
Very friendly staff - excellent
We had lots of of fun and the hotel is good - we are very happy and appreciate all teh efforts of the staff to keep us happy and satisfied. We will surely return when we return to Rome.
some reservations about hotel
It was not conveniently located for bus/tram/metro travel. Buses in Rome are confusing so never could get back to hotel without a long walk. Customer service at hotel was lacking. Room smelled of sewer back up and they could not fix or find us a new room. Would not personally stay here again.
located in financial/political arena
The concierges were not at all helpful. They would give only partial information at best. Wake-up calls were an hour early. Questions were rebuffed. I would not recommend this hotel.
Room to small, never had any milk for the tea and coffee in our room.
Bad service, rooms need to be restructured, uncomfortable bed, one of my worst hotel experiences in Rome!
Gambrinus hotel
This hotel was ranked as 4stars however in my opinion the best suited is 3 stars and to add the internet connection was really bad
Customer Friendly
Amazing stay. The hotel is centrally located. The staff is really friendly and helps to make your stay really comfortable.
Cozy, friendly atmosphere, convenient location
This was a hidden gem. We found the staff friendly and accomodating. The location was a convenient take-off point for the train station. The feel was local with nice little shops and small cafes nearby. Loved the bedroom walls upholstered in padded fabric, and the condition and cleanliness was above par. The breakfast and breakfast room was delightful and abundant. We would definitely go back.
Great choice for the area.
Got this as a "mystery hotel" on expedia. For the area, the hotel was a great deal. Clean, tidy room, if on the small side, particularly for 2 people. Breakfast could be slightly better, but adequate and expresso was excellent.I was there on business but location should be reasonable for tourists too. There is a nice pizzeria across the road which I sampled and an interesting looking greek restaurant 50 meters away. Some of my colleagues stayed in much worst hotels in the area (particularly closer to Termini).
Great hotel with easy access. Romantic.
Great hotel very near to the Termini station. Its approx a 10-min walk from the station. The staff was courteous and very helpful explaining the tourist spots. The room was amazing: approx 15-20 ft ceiling and all the walls covered in cloth with huge drapes. Very nice and romantic although the total size of the room was a little small. Bedroom and bathroom was very clean.
be happy in Rome
Nice and friendly hotel. Good location and good restaurants around.
value hotel
the staff is great but the hotel needs a renovation, bed wasnt too comfortable of clean.
Tidy neat hotel
Hotel was good and great location. The only negative I have to say is the shower room is really tiny for a person.. You can't even bend down and move much.
good for business travel
Quiet room, 10 minute walk from train station, generic euro breakfast, free internet, small rooms but clean
Far from the city attractions very small rooms
The stuff was wonderful but the hotel location was far from the city center and most of the attraction (20-30 minute walk for the closest attractions) the rooms were really small and breakfast was not that good.
Hotel Gambrinus | Hotel in Rome | Travala.com
The room was adequate and clean, although a bit dark, but that was not my priority, as this was my emergency accommodation. The staff were excellent and have put me at ease after a hell of a day. I felt well looked after. The location was excellent.
