Stressful - as per Expedia, check in ends at midnight and to contact the property if you will be arriving after midnight. From Lisbon I messaged the property, they were very prompt to respond that their desk is manned 24/7 so I didn’t have to stress. We parked on the street - cheap and easy. The room was very nice - crisp but smelled horrible- musty dirty laundry smell. The thermostat was set to heat and could not change it to just fan - opening the balcony door helped. Loved the coffee and local pastry in the room - lovely b touch. Pillows were again smelly and very very hard. Breakfast was excellent !

This location was by the port and was very walkable for everything we needed. Overall we had a great stay and the property was very nice.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of everything. On the water and popular avenue. Very clean and hotel staff were wonderful and always helpful. Beds were very comfortable. I stayed in the apartment style room. Bigger than i expected. I had the pleasure of staying there in November. If I had to find a fault, it was that the hotel changed the air conditioning to heat because of the time of year. I’m Canadian so I still found the temperature hot and could’ve used air condition for my full stay. Minor issue. It would be nice to control when I wanted heat or air conditioning. However opening the patio door helped cool it down. Just had to kill some flies

This is our second stay at Gaivota Hotel with my family. We love the location, size of the apartment for our family with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a beautiful balcony facing the marina. All the staff is very professional, accommodating and friendly. We will definitely come back.

Lovely and clean in the heart of the downtown, across from the marina. Very busy (somewhat noisy) and walkable. Felt very safe in the area. Good sized suite that had a balcony that faced the marina. Spotless and the front desk staff were really helpful. Lots of restaurants within walking distance.

We stayed here with friends for 4 nights. The front desk staff was amazing. Every single one of them were very friendly and helpful. They went above and beyond everyday. The location of the hotel and the rooms were great. But I can’t say enough about the staff, they were superior. I would highly recommend this hotel. It is a nice boutique hotel with a good breakfast. There is a grocery store next door and many restaurant choices to walk to. I would also recommend taking day tours and not renting a car in the island.

The property is in a great location close to many restaurants and areas of interest. There’s a well stocked reasonably priced grocery store and several restaurants next door. You can sit outside and see the marina as you eat. The one bedroom unit we rented was spacious, clean, a comfortable bed, well appointed mini kitchen, daily restock of coffee pods and good water pressure which was appreciated after daily hikes. The complimentary breakfast buffet is a mixture of typical European and American items. There’s a vast option of bread and a few pastries. There’s a free a la cart menu with many delightful options. For coffee, there’s a latte machine and another machine where you can select how strong you want your coffee. For non dairy drinkers, they offer oat milk. I did see they had gluten free avocado toast for those with gluten issues. The staff, especially Rodrigo are exceptionally welcoming and helpful. The person who works the breakfast buffet was ready to help and was so kind. Oh try the local pepper jelly too. It’s sweet & a little spicy which was a nice contrast to the usual fruit jams. Overall, the hotel is an excellent option if you are looking for a well priced conveniently located hotel in Ponta Delgado.

The staff was truly phenomenal. They have thought of everything and have an answer to any problem or situation. The breakfast they provide is perfect, and if you leave too early they will provide a breakfast option to go! You are equipped with fresh water, can rent beach towels, and they helped us with taxis to anywhere on the island!

Hotel Gaivota is located right in the heart of Ponta Delgada and only a short drive to the airport. The location has restaurants, grocery store, souvenir shops, etc. on the same block. You can easily walk and explore the town from this location. There are also spots to easily rent a car, go whale watching, island tours, etc. We booked a one bedroom apartment and found the unit to be larger than expected. The room was spot less and very well kept. There were two air conditioners in the room for added comfort with the summer heat and humidity. The provided breakfast was excellent. Lots of cold and warm choices. Plus fresh fruit, fresh juices and large expresso machines. The other option was to order a la cart options rather than the buffet. There was lots of seating as well. All of the staff that we interacted with a warm, kind, patient and helpful. For parking, there is no hotel parking but you can pay to park on the street or park underground at a nearby lot which had lots of spots.

Great Place in Downtown Ponta Delgada

Great room for a family, general living area, patio space with sliding door looking out into the dock region of Ponta Delgada. Pull out bed, let the whole family of 4 get comfortable each in their own beds.

Great Hotel in an Awesome location. Walking distance to many restaurants and to the city center. Grocery store and indoor shopping center literally next door and 2 car rental places next door as well. Love the location and the staff was professional and very helpful. They will store and secure your luggage for free if you arrive in the morning but check-in in the afternoon, thus, allowing you to walk freely throughout the city center while you wait. Their free breakfast buffet was great - hot and delicious! Highly recommend this hotel!

Great hotel

The hotel is within walking distance to the grocery store and the mall. The Apartment had everything we needed and was great size and comfortable. View was beautiful. Breakfast was plentiful and the lady working it was working very hard to keep up with demands. The front desk was friendly and helpful.

Do not hesitate to book this hotel. Took a red eye in and arrived at 7:30 to the hotel. Our room was not available but the staff recommended a breakfast place and then booked us a half day tour to keep us busy while we waited. We returned from the tour about 12:30 and our room was ready for us. The room was huge and the view spectacular! Our first night we went to the store next door and bought things for dinner on our balcony. The staff went above and beyond in service, the room was amazing and breakfast was included. Book this hotel it is perfect!

A short visit to Sao Miguel on our way to mainland Portugal. Very nice accommodations in the centre of Porta Delgada. Convenient underground parking with parking card.

My flight home was canceled at midnight night so I made a reservation at the Hotel Gaivota for the following evening. Once I got to the airport to discuss the cancellation, the airlines gave me a voucher at another hotel. I called and I immediately asked Hotel Gaivota to help me out and cancel my reservation. They refused to refund the price of the room. I understand that I missed the window for canceling, but the fact is, I had only had the reservation for approximately 15 hours. They had plenty of rooms available so I did not prevent them from renting to someone else. They insisted on the technical rule which made the room nonrefundable. On the other hand, I have traveled extensively around the world and have found many really high class top quality hotels very willing to try and help stranded travelers whether by early check-in, late checkouts, shortening a stay or allowing a cancellation under emergency circumstances. I even asked for half of the refund since no one used the room and they refused. So charging me for a room that no one used and had only been reserved for half a day seems particularly harsh and unfair under the circumstances. Some courtesy and accommodation certainly would’ve been appreciated. So if this is your type of hotel treatment, go ahead and take your chances. If not, I recommend going to the Hotel Atlantica up the street, which is lovely.

The hotel was great. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was basic, but adequate. You can eat the breakfast buffet or you can order off the limited menu. The room we stayed in was a 1 bedroom apartment with a small kitchen. It was clean and very functional. There is a grocery store next door so it was nice to have some food in the room. I would definitely come to this hotel again.

The view from the Balcony into the Marina and beyond was very nice from our room. Very nice room and it's amenities. All the desk/reception staff went out of their way to accomodate our needs and answer our questions. The only thing that was concerning were the panhandlers outside the door and on the street. Several times we were asked for money and noticed the same pair hiding in the shrubs across the street doing drugs.

Intimate Hotel

Lovely hotel with ocean view convenient for whale watching boats and good restaurants all around - ask for a high floor facing the ocean and you will not be disappointed. Hard working staff thru out the entire complex. This is an intimate hotel right in the middle of everything

We had a nice stay at this property. We had a standard room which was small but adequate. Our main gripe was that the bed was tiny. The hotel advertises it as a double but we found it very small, and we are not big people. Why can't hotels provide bigger beds?? There's lots of space to accommodate them. Having said that, the facilities in the room were good. There was a safe, a fridge and a Nespresso coffee machine. Coffee pods were replaced daily when used. The bathroom was large with a tub and shower. The breakfasts were good with something for everyone's taste. However, although they have signs on the tables saying that you can have eggs done in a variety of ways, we were never offered these and had to settle for the eggs on the buffet table. The best part of the hotel is its location. Its right on the main street promenade and all the city sights are easily walkable. Plenty of restaurants close by especially at the marina across the road. Staff were helpful and friendly. There's a supermarket next door. All in, if you dont mind a small bed, I can highly recommend this hotel.

Great location and staff. Very Clean and breakfast was really fresh food. Gave four star because They only have a small limited amount and of parking passes, we we had to pay full rate of $1 euro per hour vs $5 a day. Not big deal since we were out most of the day, but felt should indicate rating accordingly

The staff were very accommodating, giving me an early check in and late checkout and storing my luggage as I had a late departing flight. I treated myself to a 1bedroom apartment which was very luxurious and I loved the opportunity to enjoy a coffee, wine and meals in my room when it was raining and not as pleasant to walk around.

The staff is friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make us feel at home during an unexpectedly long stay. Our plans changed, so we needed to extend our stay. The folks at the front desk arranged it so that we didn't even need to change rooms. The central location in Ponta Delgada made it easy to get to all the places we wanted to visit.

Great location!

The location was perfect! My 83 year old mother and I were able to walk to most of the big attractions in town. The breakfast buffet was incredible! Many unique options and tasted great. The walkway along the main street was convenient for strolling and sitting. We would definitely stay here again.

I liked its central location and staff. This was my second time at this hotel. I stayed in this hotel in 2018 and rebooked it. What I did not like was that room 17 is right next to a tin shhet roof and the rain makes quite a noise waking people up. Should clad adjacent roof in a different material.

Great location on the harbor. Lots of places to walk and enjoy an outdoor lunch or dinner. The hotel breakfast was wonderful. Many choices for breakfast. There was a young woman at the desk (I forgot her name) she went above and beyond to help us when we had flight problems. All the staff were wonderful, she was exceptional.

Small Hotel but quite and everyone was very nice. Nice view from the balcony. Breakfast was great. Cleanliness and the water in the room and coffee was free of charge .

We had the superior suite which had a huge bedroom living area and kitchen. Had a fantastic balcony overlooking marina with lounge chairs and table and chairs included breakfast buffet. Staff were all friendly and accomodating made restaurant reservations and taxis

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Gaivota. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment which was very spacious and had a great view of the harbor from our balcony. The breakfast was wonderful snd the staff spectacular. We will definitely stay here when we come back.

Convenient location, good breakfast, comfy bed

On the waterfront. Breakfast was great. Order the eggs benedict. We had a 2 room unit. It was slightly less spacious than I had assumed. It is 2 standard hotel rooms next to each other. It was perfect for us but a family might need more space. It did not have any seating area aside from a small desk and chair in each room. If you book the 2 room unit be aware of this. We felt it was a good deal.

Location is fantastic. On the main waterfront avenue within walking distance of all kind of attractions. Turn left and you see a beautiful church and across the street a swimming complex with a free ocean pool! To the right about 10 minutes walking is the main plaza and all kind of shops and amazing restaurants. Also a supermarket next door to stock up groceries. Views from the balcony were amazing. Rooms were cozy, spacious and clean. Kitchenette was a big plus. Try to get the parking pass. We got it on the second day. It costs €5 per day with access to the underground parking lot. The entrance/exit is right acorss the hotel. Otherwise you have to park on the street (weekdays after 7pm and Sundays are free). Staff was very friendly and willing to help in any way. Breakfast was also good, fresh fruits, cheese and goodies from the islands. I recommend this hotel 100%

The hotel was very centrally located. The staff was very friendly and helpful and they were able to check us in 5 hours early for a small fee. The complimentary breakfast was good every morning with plenty of options. The only downside was the beds were too firm, I wish they were slightly more comfortable. I would recommend this hotel to families.

Excellent staff

The hotel is very clean, the staff are very helpful and speaks very good english. The hotel location is walking distance to most of the places in pontadelgada. Close to all the touring companies, shops restaurant's and botanical gardens. So it gives you more options of booking the tours which is convenient for you with different companies and alot cheaper than online tour companies.

Fantastic place! Staff were very helpful. Location is great: right next to small grocery store and across the street from the marina where they offer lots of water activities. Restaurants are also easy to walk to. Breakfast was varied and fresh. For us with gluten issues, they offer gluten free toast, plenty of meats, cheeses and fruit.

The twin beds in the room were comfy and the room was a good size. The breakfast was very tasty but hoped to have more selection of veggies on a daily basis. Staff were great. Place was clean. Close to transit, restaurants, shopping, tour offices, etc.
