The property was a little loud at night, it can use some upgrades but overall it was a good stay!
Very good, walking distance to Vatican City. Very good complementary breakfast.
I only stayed for one night, due to other reservations I had booked. Even so, it was a pleasant stay. Friendly staff, walking distance to restaurants, and many tourists spots. The hotel has a rustic vibe and it was in the process of getting some renovations, but no issues.
As stated, everything was wonderful. However, wish the room had been bigger with a easy chair or loveseat to relax on vs laying on the bed when not eating, shopping, or enjoying the location.
Family of Four Visit
The stay at Hotel Emmaus was perfect for our family. The close proximity to The Vatican and the San Pietro train station enabled us to move throughout Rome with ease. The front desk, cleaning, and breakfast staff members were all very helpful and friendly. We recommend this hotel 100%. If we return to Rome we will stay here.
Friendly and helpful staff
So very close to the Vatican just a short 100 yard walk with lots of good restaurants around. The hotel is aged but the staff and service is excellent
The staff at Hotel Emmaus were all incredibly friendly and helpful. Francesca greeted us on arrival and was able to provide several options for sightseeing and dining. The hotel is starting to show some signs of aging but the rooms are clean and we has lots of room inside. Our only issue was on our last evening we had difficulty maintaining hot water in the shower. The hotel is located 3 minute walk from St Peter’s and walking distance to most attractions in Centro Storico. Would definitely stay here again.
The location was perfect. The Vatican is so close!!!! We crossed the street, walk down the tunnel for est. 5 minutes then, there we were…. At the Vatican. Perfect! Breakfast was so delicious.
A tutti voi che lavorano al Hotel Emmaus, Roma, Italia, vi ringrazio assai per farmi, tutti voi, per una bellissima e piacevole vacanza. At the breakfast room, I’m overwhelmed by the sweethearts who, humbly and faithfully greet us and serve us caffee latte, or anything else… then quietly go upstairs to humble make up our rooms. From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and everyone of you guys at the front desk for your wonderful service, your friendliness kindness and professionalism. I am going to miss you all, mille Grazie a tutti voi!!! Vivian
Fantastic!
Fairly run down but quaint. Nice breakfast. Shower was super tiny. ACeas poor and it was during a heat wave. Very convenient for St. Peter's Basilica and other attractions. Safe and quiet area.
The photos are different then the, reality, broken shower handle, noisy air conditioning, leaking toilet bowel, non confotartable beds. Also they charged me extra six euros per person that was not never mentioned on their site
Centrally located and closed to most everything for walking distance. close to St Peters basillica.
Good place near Vatican City to stay. Comfy room
Only 5 min from St. Peter's Basilica. Taxis are in front of the hotel. Simple dining options. Unique elevator!
Recommended
Very good location, friendly staff, near lots of convinience stores and restaurants. Bus 64 from and toTermini very good alternative.
Great location - steps to St Peter’s Basilica
Good hotel
The photos are not in accordance with the property. The bathroom was horrible and basically I was a waste of money. The “breakfast included” was the worst and the staff attending the dinning area were so rude that the rest of the days of my staying there i rather go somewhere else for breakfast… I have to say that the staff at the front door were really nice and helpful with me, that i granted them
(Jan 2024) as previous reviews stated, radiator heater turns off around midnight so temperature does drop throughout the night. You get what you paid, so dont expect much. Building is outdated but everything works as intended (including a vintage elevator lift) Its perfect if you need somewhere simple to crash and you will be spending most of the day out. If you prefer to spend time in your hotel and want the amenities, don't book here. Bar isnt a bar just bottles on the shelf to check the search results box. Very conveniently located close to Vatican City and taxi stand right ooutside. Several simple restaurants few minutes walking distance ans several convenient store downstairs for water juice beer, etc. Breakfast lady was rude but you only see her a few minutes a day. Rest of the staff is friendly and nice. Remember, you get what you paid for.
Location was excellent,Room very dated.Breakfast basic
My stay at Emmaus was a very good one! Staff are very helpful and respectful! Good job!
Nice staff, clean room ,close to attraction
Perfect location if you are going to visit the Vatican. Continental Breakfast hit the spot especially the cappuccinos. Staff is very helpful.
happy family
staff are very helpful to any requests. hotel is old but clean. very good service during breakfast. lenient with earlier breakfast time instead of 7am. had fresh towels and room made up daily as requested. generally awesome stay. close to St Peter’s square like a 5 min walk. also very accessible to taxi which are just outside the hotel. few steps away from a nice La Vittoria restaurant.
Friendly and helpful staff
The hotel is old and small, but very conveniently located (walking distance to the Vatican). The elevator is ancient and went out of service so we had to transport luggage via stairs to the 4th floor. The breakfast was a simple continental breakfast. Staff was nice and courteous and helped me transport/store luggage. Overall good for the price.
Great location very close to Vatican…
The room was small and beds uncomfortable and dated
The lady working the front desk was so helpful she helped us with transport to the cruise and from cruise to hotel which was a great help the hotel is very close to main square
Cleaning in areas lacks attention to detail.
Despite its location, a walking distance, from the Vatican, my money would’ve been better spent going a little farther and staying in a nicer and safer hotel. I would’ve immediately taken my business elsewhere. However, we arrived in Rome late that evening, and we needed to rest. Where do I start? As soon as you enter the lobby you see dirty sofas in the waiting area. The carpet is filthy and it smelled of old moisture. I’ve been in the many antiquated hotels but the conditions here were unacceptable. We were on the third floor in a room across the hall from wallpaper that was peeling, rusty pipes, exposed wiring. Our room was next to a family who had an infant baby crying. The doors were so old and thin that you can hear conversations in the other rooms. In the morning, I heard 4-5 other alarms going off in the same hallway. The bedroom smelled of moisture, and as you open the bathroom door, it smelled like sewer. We had a sleep with the fan on in the bathroom to keep the smell from permeating into the sleeping area. I didn’t sleep at all because I can hear steps down the hallway. We arrived at midnight. I had to leave our room and take a walk outside because the smell was making me nauseous. I endure the polluted smell of Rome to clear my senses before entering the hotel to sleep. We took off the top cover and slept, set the alarm at 6, and immediately checked out.
Excellent service provided by staff, great location and so easy to access St Peter’s. Breakfast at the hotel was simple yet satisfying. Highly recommended for a great stay.
This is ideally located for the Vatican City and the centre of Rome, and with shops, restaurants and cafes in easy walking distance. The hotel itself is average, old fashioned and quite basic, but I'd still recommend it for the location.
Great location. Staff were extremely helpful. Fantastic breakfast…beds were a bit uncomfortable. Very clean. Overall fantastic stay.
Staff if very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is very good. The convenience of being near the major landmarks.
Very outdated hotel but it was near vatican church which we love.
Nice hotel for the money. Clean and friendly staff
Quaint, clean, and friendly service.
Start by saying you get what you pay for. It is a 3 star hotel. In Italy that rating means it is what it is. Older and dated property The shower was the size of a coffen standing on it's end. The air-conditioning barely and i mean barely worked. We made a mistake on the dates we were to arrive. Even though we communicated at least two days in advance to try to correct our mistake. They would not bu budge/no refund for a day less there. Staff helped arrange taxi to airport(expect to pay about 65 Euro. Comp breakfast that is good, not great.
Great location. No hot water and low water pressure in the morning. Building systems upgrades are required
Amazing location for Vatican. Excellent dining choices surrounding the Hotel. The Hotel is not 5 star, so if you want a hotel to hang out in, its not for you. The hotel is to sleep/recharge.
This was my 2nd time staying at this hotel with 5 years in between my last visit and now. I really like it because of the location. There are good dining attractions in the area as well local store and taxi. Main attractions are a short walk away.
Great Vatican location
The location is great if you’re planning to visit the Vatican. It’s literally a 5 minute walk from hotel. I recommend going late at night 9-10 pm before they close the gates.. it’s beautiful. The hotel itself is a bit dated (room keys are not electronic)and facilities are adequate. We appreciate the architecture and style. Free breakfast is great. Staff was friendly and great. A couple of good restaurants and convenience store right outside the hotel. Another perk is that taxis are right outside the front door.
Great service
Older hotel in a great location, the staff was very nice and helpful, very clean, nothing fancy but nice to have an included continental breakfast as well.
El area de ubicación es buena cerca al Vaticano. Por afuera luce muy bien, el interior es un viejo building que a gritos pide una renovación.
Great location
Someone's dirty underwear was left under the bed. But over all clean. Beds are very hard, pillows flat. Friendly staff, old feeling but quaint. Great location . For the price would stay again.
Besides being right near the Vatican, the staff was helpful and professional with any situations that came up during my visit.
The hotel area was very convenient and walkable to wonderful tourist areas. The staff was great, breakfast was lovely with cappuccino and a meat and cheese plate and the elevator was adorable. The only cons was that the bed was too hard and that there was a school full of students staying at the hotel that were disrespectful to the staff and neighboring hotel rooms.
Stayed at this hotel for four days. My stay was well, had no issues! I was traveling solo the hotel stuff a very friendly the breakfast was nothing spectacular. However, the cappuccinos were amazing! It’s about 15 minute walk from Trastevere, and about 12 minutes another direction to the hop on hop off sight seeing bus. I believe stop 5, on Piazza Di Pointe St. Angelo; about 10 min walk to the Vatican. I felt completely safe in either direction that I walked. The bus is just right around the corner if you choose to take that lots of restaurants, cafés shops. So much to do and everything was local and in walking distance.
Bathroom had mild smell and our sheets had dirt on them
This hotel is in a main st in a walkable area. About a 20 min walk to the Vatican and walkable to the review fountain. They have valet parking for 30 euros a night. Taxis line up in front of the hotel and there are several restaurants next door. There is 1 elevator which is a few hundred years old therefore small meaning 1 person and 1 suitcase at a time. I would definitely stay here again
Two days in Rome
Very good stay, older hotel but in a great location.
The hotel staff was amazing and the room was great but my only complaint was the shower space was too small for me. Overall because the customer service was AMAZING, I’ll still this hotel ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & 👏
Run down Hotel
The hotel location was perfect if you visit St Peter’s Basilica. But we can hear all the noise, from vehicles outside to our next door. Our last night was a nightmare, the front desk doesn’t have a control, all these teenagers was soo noisy in the middle of the night up until 2:00am and we are leaving our hotel at 3:30am for our next day flight back home.
Perfect location and that's it.
Location was very good but the room itself was tiny not comfortable (heating was inefficient). In fact the AC remote batteries were dead and had to call reception to replace them. Staff tried to make it work but were unsuccessful. The room was cold, dark and literally felt like a cave. Parking was a nightmare, if you are driving to this location with your own car it's better to look for some other hotel. The staff asks you to find your own parking on street which took me almost an hour and about a kilometer away. The other option is private parking which costs 30 Euros a night. Breakfast if forgettable.. Overall not at all a pleasant stay.
We are glad that we found this hotel.
We were so close to the Vatican that we can see the dome of St. Peter's Basilica. Taxi stand is just outside the entrance door. The front desk staff are very helpful, just ask if you need assistance or you want help in adjusting room temperature, etc.
Good value
A pleasant if older hotel in a terrific location. Easy access to train at St Pietro and a very short walk to St Peters Square and the Vatican. Good choice of restaurants.
Super courteous, attentive, and professional personnel, especially Stephano. Great location, walking distance from St. Peter's Square, and plenty of shopping options. Highly recommended.
The place, the cleanliness and the attention makes this hotel excellent
Grazie mille, posto fantastico, tutti incredibilmente gentili! Grazie di cuore :)
Staff very helpful. Great location for visit to St Peter’s. Older hotel, building. Showers very small.
The neighborhood around Vatican City is clean and safe. Looks to be well maintained. Emmaus is dated, and could use interior renovation. Comfortable in the old European way. Breakfast was very nice, served by friendly staff. Great location.
Bathrooms are too small if you are overweight will be hard to get into the shower just like myself location is a 10 I will definitely stay here next time
Easy check in and check out, called a taxi for me to the airport and it was prompt. Gave me restaurant tips to be able to find great places to eat. Great location.
Close to Vatican
Very. Old. Hotel. Otherwise service was great
Cash for city tax was more than stated on the website so already getting ripped off , room window did not open and shower let’s say more water came from the fitting than out the blocked head. The rome key ring was removed as too heavy to walk around city with , I did not eat at the hotel but good security and good staff interaction
Old Hotel
the hotel is OLD! Very humble nothing extravagant about it. The elevator is probably the same age as some of the ruins in Rome. The beds were foam mattresses and one was an old spring mattress the type you'll find in sofa beds. The only good thing about this please was the service. The staff were very nice, helpful and polite/
It is very close to the Vatican. Taxi stop is right in front of the hotel. Dining options are plenty and close. The elevator is very unique.
Fair quality
Great location. Thin wall could hear neighbors’ room talking. Some sewer odor In the bathroom.
Staff
From the front desk staff to the housekeeping .. .excellent
Excellent service at this place. The location is unbeatable
Very close to St Peter's Basilica. Nice restaurants very close by, I enjoyed La Vittoria and I think the other one was named Piccolo. Staff was friendly and courteous and taxi stand in front was a huge plus. Honest cabbies there, no rip offs, unlike in other areas. Excellent breakfast. A little noisy (older building), but very enjoyable and affordable.
For the price, it is pretty good. I really like the location, close to st Peter's, a taxi stand, a small train station, and the 64 bus line. It is a bit dated, but for the price and location, it is good.
Being close to the St Peter’s Basilica and safe neighborhood.
Excellent location. Staff was friendly and helpful. Beds are quite hard. Breakfast was simple but adequate. Great cappuccino!
Loved the location easy access to sights. Awesome staff and very clean..
Very good service and the installation was ok. Staff very friendly.
I love the “oldness” of the property. It’s very close to St. Peter’s which was a plus for us! It’s also very close to great restaurants, souvenir shops, and plenty of taxis!
The location is perfect for visiting St Peters. There is a pedestrian tunnel across the street which leads right to the square. Lots of little stores and restaurants close by. The problem I had was no air conditioning in my room. I think that in a city that is hot 9 months of the year that would be a priority. The street noise is continuous and if you can't close the window it is hard to sleep. WiFi and breakfast were good.
Staff friendly and the best location for Vatican and other places.
like It very much
Great service ! Amazing friendly/helpful Staff/employees
Just back from my 3rd trip to Rome and my 3rd stay at this hotel. Perfect location. Quirky lift. Helpful staff. Not a massive choice at breakfast but enough. Room was fine and you can just see St Peter's. Lovely restaurant a few doors down where Diego was wonderful and looked after us. I won't visit Rome again as 3 times is enough, but if i did i would stay here again.
Location was perfect for what I was looking for. Lots of restaurants near by to choose from and easy walking to St Peters square. The room itself was comfortable but my only complaint is the restroom. There was always a horrible sewage smell particularly in the mornings. For this reason alone, I would not choose to stay there again. The other thing was the overpowering smell of scented plug ins.
Old world charm. Antique elevator is totally safe and fun to use!
Hotel Emmaus is a really charming place incredibly close to St. Peter's square (less than a five minute leisurely walk). If you're prioritizing locale and budget, this is the perfect place. It's situated within a comfortable walking distance to the Vatican and Vatican Museum, Castel Sant'angelo, and though further, still manageable, Pantheon, Trevi, and Piazza Navona, so you can save big on transportation costs. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast buffet included was really helpful for us to cut down on costs and relieved some stress. There are also nearby a grocery store for convenience (just out the door) and two lovely restaurants if you need something quick and delicious. Also was very pleased with the air conditioner in our room that we could use at our own discretion free of charge, which helped a lot with the temps climbing to nearly 100 degrees outside! The only complaint is that this building is, like many others, very old. The walls are incredibly thin so you will hear everything. But if you're not planning on spending a lot of time in your hotel and just need something with a central location that can fill all of your needs, Emmaus is ideal!
Location next to the Vatican was great, but the property is really old and run down and looks nothing like the photos.
The personal. .. plus breakfast 👍👍location. .. close to St.Peters.. safe .. easy drive from airport
Location was exceptional, a few blocks from San Peter Basilica.
Convenient Location
So close to St Peter's Basilica. Access to Vatican is right across the street.
It’s was a good experience. Close to many activities, the restaurant and rental shops. The walking around the area was convenient
Excellent location, old world charm.
Great location, ònly 2-3 minute walk to Vatican. Several restaurants, mini marts, laundromat within a couple minutes walk. You can even walk to Pantheon/Spanish steps in 30 min down charming side streets. Air conditioning was best anywhere we went in Europe and kept room cold on hot summer days. Beds are a bit hard/springy. Floors are tile so might be some dust bunnies in room. Would definitely recommend for 2 or 3 day stay.
Great location, close to St. Peter’s Square. But the shower was really small.
The best about the property was its situation close to the Vatican & the staff were fantastic, however we got hardly any sleep due to people arriving between 1-3 am & then showering, the noise from the water system was horrendous & you felt people were showering & using the toilet in your bathroom rather than next door or above & below you. I would never recommend this hotel.
The property was located away from the hustle and bustle of Rome which was a plus for me. Very good restaurants next to it. Taxi stand right in front. Staff were not friendly at all compared to the Italians you meet everywhere else. Breakfast is a boooo if you're looking for hot breakfast. Room was clean but very basic. So I'm on the fence about this hotel. Restaurants around it and convenience to taxi was the best part of all for me. Sorry Hotel Emmaus. It was nice but just not enough.
Excellent Hotel. We were very satisfied with the service and the nice accommodations. Highly recommended and close to the Vatican.
