Older property near Kyoto Station. Rooms are small and very clean, popular with Japanese salarymen. Good for short stay if you want to experience a ‘business’ hotel. There are many other options in the area.

The location and facilities were outstanding, with the added bonus of a complimentary Japanese public bath on-site. The service was equally impressive, making for an exceptional stay overall.

I liked the location but the room and bathroom were small.

Very good hotel. Convenient transportation is near Kyoto Station. Very convenient for eating and shopping. The hotel has complete facilities, including breakfast, which is very good. There is also a large bath. Bath and skin care products are very good.

Within 5 minutes of the Kyoto Station, we had a nice stay at the hotel and the public bath area was great. The room was very clean and complimentary water was provided.

Staffs are accomodating and has an English speaking staff. Place is clean. It’s conveniently near bus stops coming from International airport and tour buses as well as the train station. Nearby a convenience store. And if you want to dine-out, there are lots of them at the train station including McDonalds in which you won’t miss on your way to the hotel. Will definitely recommend to family and friends. Big thank you to El Cient.

Wonderful women’s spa! Close to everything! The only issue I had was trying to charge my phone at night. Turning out the lights meant shutting down the power grid in the room. Everything else was absolutely amazing!

It is close to the Kyoto Station, easy access to trains, metro and bus. The onsen is small compare to the hotel size but better than none. Dinning area always packed with people and need to queue up to be seated and for the food. More western option for breakfast would be perfect.

Hotel Elcient is located across from the East exit of Kyoto station. The location is so convenient with lots of shopping, dining and tourist sites close by. Its so easy to get around Kyoto with it's location so close to Kyoto station (once you familiarize yourself to the station). Make sure to spend time at Kyoto Station as it's so beautiful with rooftop garden, views, restaurants, shopping, light shows etc. The rooms are clean, spacious (for Japan standards) and have great amenties. The onsen is excellent and the breakfast buffet is plentiful with both Japanese and Western options. The staff are hard working and very friendly. I highly recommend this hotel.

The place was great, the staff so helpful always trying to communicate even if just some spoke English, super clean, really comfortable. Breakfast options were varied and. Incredible value for the price.

There are plenty of choices for breakfast, i.e. Japanese and western breakfast. Opposite the hotel is Kyoto Train station, subway station and express bus to airport too. Very convenient. Highly recommend for people who rely on local public transport to travel around Kyoto. Definitely will come back again.

Very clean and quiet. Nice place to rest your head while you’re not doubt getting 30,000 steps trying to walk all the temples around the area. Gets the job done and is very simple. I couldn’t figure out how to work the fan in the bathroom so I had to open the window and do some funny business with the fan in the room but overall its a great place to rest your head for the night.

We booked this hotel for the convenient location for the ease of transportation and nearby food choices. AMAZING staff. It is true that they will store your luggage for free, if you desire, after checkout. Breakfast was awesome, especially the Matcha lattes. Quiet even though across from the train station. Our efficiently laid out room faced the parking lot but we didn't hear any cars throughout the night or morning. The spa was refreshing, and there is a a TV information channel that tells you when the restaurant or spa is crowded, full, or under occupied. Strong wifi throughout the building. Be aware that the elevator doors close very quickly, we are fast walkers but it was faster.

Bathroom is super tight. Room tv program is limited mostly Japanese. Reception staff is not friendly, don't smile or greet. Hotel location is superb and near amenities.

The hotel staff were all very kind and helpful! They also helped us fill out the paper work for the luggage delivery service! And it's also convinently located right next to Kyoto station!

Room is very small. Location is best. 7-11 is just beside it. Airport Limousine Bus from Osaka Kansai Airport drop off is just across the road. Save the trouble of finding your way in the huge Kyoto station. The public bath is an interesting experience for foreigners.

The room was too small for three people. The beds and pillows were uncomfortable.

The location is excellent, breakfast is good but very busy, laundry machine is excellent, spa is crowded.

Very clean, close to the station, convenient with laundromat in building and lots of Manga to read (or look at if you can’t read Japanese). The onsen was a very unique & pleasant experience as well.

Great location, nice comfort

The hotel is conveniently located, just a few minutes from the Kyoto Station, which provided great convenience for me taking the JR train to arrive at, and went around for sightseeings. My room was clean and comfortable. I very much enjoyed the Japanese Spa at the hotel after a full day exploration in Kyoto.

Nothing better than a great onsen.

The onsen was great! Although it was pretty much crowded and had to pick a late night time to go. The good, but got repetitive and might not be worth it. The room was a bit small but worth the value from the onsen.

Thanks to the staff at Hotel Elcient for a wonderful stay. We spent 4 nights there recently and were pleased with the service from the staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. It is right outside Kyoto station which made it a great spot to explore the city via public transit. The room was small ( a consistent theme in Japan), but clean. Daily housekeeping took care of all our needs. The complimentary use of pajamas while we were there was a nice touch. We did not use the Japanese spa, so I can’t review that. There is a 7/11 outside the hotel which was convenient for light snacks and any other needs. And the 7/11s in Japan are much different than those in North America. The prepared foods are so much better. Overall, the staff attempted to answer our questions as much as possible in English. I did attempt to converse a little in Japanese, but failed miserably. Overall, it was a wonderful stay.

Convenient, clean, highly recommended

We had 3 beds in the room and it was rather small. But we could still manage to eat in the room and found space to put 3 small carry-on luggages. The room is clean, smells good and furnitures were good. Bed was comfy. Toilet is clean. The location is very convenient too - walking distance to the Kyoto station and lots of shopping and food nearby. I also love that they provided personal care items such as moisturizer, facial wash etc….

Very good

A typical but top-notch Japanese business hotel with staff who take pride in their jobs. The rooms were small, as expected of most Japanese business hotels, but they were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. I usually have trouble sleeping in hotel beds but these were very good for my back! The water provided was also specially filtered somehow and tasted different (in a good way) from regular potable water.

We had a nice one night stay here. The beds were comfortable and the room was very clean. They also have an onsen for guests which was enjoyable. The drawbacks are very tight quarters for rooms with 3 beds, limited space to put your things in the bathroom and check out is by 10 am.

Pros: Hotel Elcient is conveniently located across from Kyoto Station. It’s a 3 minute walk which was perfect after long days of sightseeing and walking around. There’s also a mall very closely located that was fun to shop at, eat at, and do arcade/purikura at. Overall, the location of this hotel is EXCELLENT. Cons: don’t be cheap like I was and book a smoking room just because it’s available and cheap. I checked out a day early due to the smoke. That was completely my decision but I’ve seen others consider it, don’t do it!!! Also, there is no air conditioning which made the room very hot. I tried opening my window but it provided very little ventilation. There was also a sign in the elevator about the air conditioning system being a heating system instead. I hope they are able to fix it.

The property is really new, well maintenance and locate just opposite of kyoto station. You don't have to bring any amenities, hotel provides everything from cleaning lotion, face wash, soap, shampoo with high quality product. Japanese bath is also free of charge, if you have time and want to relax just try it.

Love that the hotel is so close to Kyoto station, provides everything needed for a comfortable stay and the bonus of the sento/onsen bath is great. Do note the extended check-out timing DOES comes with EXTRA FEES which is not stated. But overall this is great and will be coming back to stay again.

Like location, but the direction to hotel should provide more details informations such as exit entrance from train stations

Very good location. Kansai airport bus drop off point just right opposite the hotel. Near to train station as well.

Top tier customer service! The staff are super helpful and friendly. The facility has an amazing spa that is perfect to end your long adventurous day with. The buffet breakfast got many delicious and healthy choices to choose from that you would not want to miss! Overall, I wish this location existed in our home town so I could have an excuse to book a getaway from home. Definitely will be visiting again when we come back to Kyoto!

The front desk help were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel's location was perfect, right behind Kyoto Station, and next door to a 7-11. Having do-it-yourself laundry was a nice touch, too..

Family of 4 stayed 3 nights before Christmas

Family of 4 stayed in 2 rooms for 3 nights just before Christmas. Rooms were very clean, staff were very polite and helpful, overall hotel facilities were excellent, Japanese spa was very good refreshing and neat/clean. just 5 mins walk from Kyoto station. however, we find that the breakfast was not as delicious... though the spread was quite good.

Almost everything except the size of the bathroom, which even by Japanese standards, was tiny. But comfortable bed, spotlessly clean room and excellent breakfast. The Japanese bath/onsen was perfect and well organised - in fact the pajamas provided for bathers were so comfortable that I used them for sleeping as well.

Very nice and clean hotel. 3 mins walk to Kyoto Station, that’s very convenience. I booked a room for3 persons, the room size is ok when you compare with the Japanese standard room which is quite small. The toilet in my room is quite small, but I’m quite impress with the amenity kits which are good quality.

Great stay

Great staff and customer service. I had an issue with my room after checking in. They were quick to find me a new room. The spa was a great bonus, and very welcomed after a long day of walking.

Hotel Elcient Kyoto

The hotel is located only about a half block from the Kyoto train station, so the location is excellent. The rooms, while small (as they often are in Japan), was clean and offered amenties like pajamas, in-room safe, and various free toiletries. Free cups of noodles were offered every night as well.

The bath house added a nice touch to the entire stay. It was clean, well-equipped, and wasn't crowded at all.

Save yourself - stay elsewhere

Honestly the worst hotel experience of my life. There isn’t room here to go into everything that was wrong, but the one that put me over the edge was how the staff managed one particular problem. My room was boiling lava hot when I checked in, like opening an oven door. I opened the window (it’s November) and turned on the air full blast, but it didn’t help...there was clearly something amiss with the heating system in this room. I went downstairs, and after about five minutes of explanation, the manager finally told me that all the rooms are the same temperature, so basically get over it (my words, but that was the gist). I persisted, but I got nowhere...they treated me like I was crazy, and essentially called me a liar (again, my words). But, there was no way I would be able to sleep in that room, so I kept on until finally they agreed to give another room. This took about 20 minutes. He came up to my old room to experience the jungle temperature for himself (my suggestion). “It’s a little warm,” admitted there manager, and then started to run down a list of all the possible things I could have done to make it so hot. Poor guy didn’t know what he was in for - a hot New Yorker who had just been called a liar, had lost a full hour of her single day in Kyoto dealing with nonsense, and was now being told it was her fault. Folks, this hotel is not worth your precious time. See also the attached photo - a sign that was in the room that embodies their approach to customer service.

Just outside the JR station. Room is newly renovated with clean and comfortable bed. Big suprise is the public bath that opens till 1am. It is really a nice and wonderful hotel in Kyoto.
