We have enjoyed staying here. The staff were very friendly and welcoming when we arrived. It’s a lovely property and very walkable to so many points of interest. We were actually scheduled to check out this morning but my husband threw his back out just as we were about to leave. The staff and the owner have been so helpful and so kind. The staff told me where to find the closest pharmacy and the owner sent a plate of food up for my husband and provided a bag of ice, which was a huge help. In addition to that they are keeping our room available to us for as long as we need to stay. I feel very supported by them. Not only is it a lovely hotel but the owners and the people who work here are the nicest people! I highly recommend this hotel and will definitely plan to stay again if we are fortunate enough to visit Lyon in the future.
Excellent service by entire staff
A City of Lights star.
I was led in the booking the hotel by the reviews of others and I was NOT disaapointed. The welcome was warm from when we checked in to checking out. Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was tastefully designed and decorated and very comfortable. Great selection for breakfast to start the day. Amazing location. Quiet but within walking distance of the citys attractions. So much to see and do. Highly commend to others.
The hotel is charming. The hotel staff is incredibly helpful. We had a nice hotel room and bathroom larger than standard European sizes. We enjoyed a 20 minute walk to see the river & had a large choice of restaurants to eat at. I highly recommend this location.
Excellent location near the train station and walkable to the river and restaurants
Cool lobby, very helpful staff, comfortable room in a convenient location near lots of good restaurants.
Nice hotel and loved the decor of the room we stayed in. Close to the train station and walking distance to the town centre. A very pleasant stay.
Fine little hotel!
Most helpful staff ever, quiet and good sized room, well maintained, very near Gare Perrache, so good Public transportation. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Nothing crazy
Comfy bed Quality of materials Nice breakfast Central location Bad sound isolation in hotel Lift not going to all floors Reception is small
The owners and the staff were very nice and helpfull
Lovely staff and excellent location
Wifi was difficult to access and absent for a period
Pleasant stay!
OMG! The owners of this hotel are so amazing! Genuinely interested in making sure you are comfortable and giving you advice on sights to see! We and our daughter enjoyed their advice and we were very pleased with the breakfast; only one or two blocks from Gare du Perrache; and only two blocks from Metro station. I was surprised as to how quiet it was being we were near the train station. Thank you again for your generosity!
Excellent
Although I got well lost in finding hotel!my fault entirely, due to my inability to pay any attention to maps! The hotel is located 4/5min from bus/train station! but you need to take a little time and get the correct route! lovely warm welcome at reception, fantastic check in,room all I needed!gd breakfast, all you can eat and drink!I would have no problems booking again Thank you,
Nice and attentive staff. Rooms have very thin walls. Your nights can be great or not so great depending on your neighbors.
Great location
The hotel is in a superb location just a few minutes walk from Perrache station and Metro. Particularly well located for Christmas market at Place Carnot and two Metro stops from the area where the Festival of Lights was commencing. The hotel itself is quite old and a little tired but plenty clean and comfy, however it doesn’t have a bar or restaurant. Not a major problem as there are numerous others a few minutes walk away. All in all, not luxurious but great location for a weekend break and very friendly, helpful staff.
Great hotel in the heart of Lyon
Booked 2 rooms. Excellent in all, except the double room had an extremely small bathroom and using WC was awkward to say the least. Otherwise very nice, friendly and helpful staff and Gilles the Directeur when out of his way to help. Hotel very close to all areas of interest
Great location and safe area
New owners where extremely helpful and kind. Gilles and Christophe were very helpful in recommending where to go and eat. Very close to the Gare du Perrache, safe area and easy to use the metro. Only negative was no A/C and with temps in the upper 80’s F it was hot. But was provided a fan when I asked. Would stay here again.
Good location - but - - - -
This hotel is in good condition and is in a good location. But, it isn't air conditioned (and Lyon gets pretty warm) AARP/Expedia fails to mention that and access to the lobby requires the front desk staff to buzz you in - 24 hours a day (there are 4 hotels in that block and the front doors of the other 3 are open most of the time). The hotel is around the corner from the Gare de Lyon-Perrache - about a 5-minute walk. Use Google Maps with caution - it directed me to walk in the exact opposite direction (I experienced that fairly often on this trip). The neighborhood is nice - many restaurants and coffee places, nice park just up the street - though, like most of France, very quiet on Sundays. There is a Metro station about 2 blocks away - public transit in Lyon is good.
recommend hotel
good location and good price i recommend this hotel for a long stay or short add to that the main station is close to the hotel.
Lyon
was really pleased with the hotel. nice room 5 minute walk to Perache station. Air conditioning would have been a bonus. The hot water takes 5-10 mins before warm enough for a shower. but overall good value. The old Town is a must for food and drink
Perfect for short break
great location, very central, 10 min taxi ride from Part Dieu Train station, staff very friendly & helpful
Good position, near the bus / tram / metro station
Ideal as a base for touring the city but would be even better if it was re-decorated and updated. Problem with smell of drains in very tiny bathroom sorted by the staff while we were out - thank you. Bathroom was minute and had a very high step - not ideal for visits in the night. Quiet room at the back but noise from air conditioning motors - for other rooms made it impossible to sleep with window open.
Large family room. Close to main station.
We have visited Lyons many times as a couple, always staying in Presqu'île. This time we needed a family room and were not disappointed. Located close by train station Perrache, the hotel is a five minute walk from Bellacour, very clean with helpful, friendly staff.
Second Best Western
Room had no air conditioning, so had to leave windows open - which meant the mosquito's got a feast. Room was very small, but not an issue for me personally. Only had hot water once from the shower, happily the room temperature counter acted this. Lots of noise started around 6:15 am, but I was on UK time so it felt like 5:15. Wifi was ok for browsing. Whilst it wasn't the worst hotel I have stayed at, I would't stay again.
Just a weekend
Hotel is located quite far from the center. It is about 15-20 minutes walk rather than 10. Hotel is old and has not been renovated for quite some time. Not really value for money. And there was a mouse in our room. Which we reported about. But not sure hotel management did anything about it... Overall - would not recommend it.
One week stay solo getaway
Relatively comfortable stay. Ice machine and ac would have been useful in the current heat wave. Excellent location, with metro, gare perrache and centre ville walkable in ten mins.
Great location
We spent 7days Did not try breakfast due to prior reviews
If Staying in Central Lyon
Location was good for our needs; close to city train station and historic sites within easy walking distance. This older hotel has clearly been restored but still needs attention to annoying maintenance issues like bathroom door that wouldn't stay closed. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
missing towels, soaps.. it didn't give an impression that room got prepared before my arrival
Good location
Short visit to Lyon. This place was in a really good location. Just a short walk over the bridge to old Lyon. Parking was not available, but it is only a couple of blocks from a parking garage.
10 minutes walk to the old city
A very nice and well situated hotel. Very friendly staff. Very comfortable room - lots of space. Would recommend it. Thank you
Nice hotel convenient to Tram station in Perrache
Hotel was ideally situated for our stay for 7 nights in Perrache. Beds were very comfortable and room was always kept clean by staff. Good shower. The only fault is that there wasnt any cupboards with drawers to keep items that you couldnt hang up. Also, and this is a fault of nearly every hotel I have stayed in, not enough coat hangers!
Hotel ok great location
Walls to thin, noisy from your neighbours, can hear very word spoken by your neighbours
Very Good Service
Checked out of Best Western Hotel de Verdun two days ago. The staff are super-friendly. The service and check in was perfect. The check-out was very quick. I was mostly impressed with the positive friendly attitude of the staff. The staff helped us with local information very patiently and so courteously, especially Christoph, the Gentleman who seems to be the hotel manager. Highly recommended.
Might be hard to find parking
The hotel is well located very near to the train station. Also about a mile from the center or downtown area. The service is good, the staff is cordial and helpfull. Mr. Asti, the owner, and the other front desk clerks speak good English. The overall experience was very positive.
Unremarkable
Friendly and helpful welcome. Hotel in old building and reception rooms and bedroom very dark, as was bathroom as lighting was subdued. Bed a little on the hard side. Didn't have breakfast as tables ridiculously close together in dark room where you had to cook your own egg and all for 12 Euros! Location OK if travelling by train but otherwise a little bit of a walk to the main sites on Presqu'ile, where hotel is situated, and Old Lyon. However, we were recommended to eat at Abel, a bouchon in the vicinity, which was fantastic.
Staff great and very helpful. Parking is weird but good and safe. But no air conditioning or screens.
Excellent place in central Lyon
This small hotel in Lyon is perfect for individuals or couples. Only a short walk from Gare de Lyon-Perrache, and within walking distance from Place Bellecour, it provides an affordable yet charming option for tourists and business persons. The rooms are small, but that is something to be expected. The personnel was very helpful and friendly. For those who enjoy urban cycling, there's a VeloV (Lyon's public bicycle system) station 20 steps from the hotel's door. I would definitively recommend this hotel.
Not sure we're to start
Hotel staff excellent, very friendly and very helpful. As for the hotel, it was very disappointing, rooms could do with renovation, bathroom not very clean, you can hear everything from the next room. Floor squeaks and bed sheets are dirty. I thought that Best Western hotels are good but maybe I'm wrong. Hotel is close to town centre but car park is a nightmare even though they have a garage. Sorry but I would not recommend this hotel but on another hand I must say that the hotel staff was really excellent.
Reasonable but not in summer
Old hotel, but clean. Staff seemed ok but not particularly helpful. Main issue was no AC and it's so hot in summer that it was difficult to sleep etc. also the main doors are always locked so everytime you wanted to come in you had to ring the bell and wait to be let in, even during normal business hours. Location was good near main square and close to train station. Wouldn't book again as just not comfortable enough especially in summer.
Good value and service
Mr Asti and his whole hotel staff were wonderful they were extremely helpful with anything that you needed. Rooms are small but u should expect that in France but it was clean and easy to get to it was in a great location to get anywhere.
Great room size
The stay was ok, however they made the booking on the wrong date, thankfully, they had vacancies when we arrived. The room they gave us was spacious and comfortable but there was no air conditioning, which would have been alright in winter but it was 30 degrees outside so... a bit too warm. The bathroom was also quite small compared to the room. But it was a very decent hotel, I really appreciated being able to walk around the room without having to squeeze between the furniture, it was a very big room!
Hotel very clean reception were great for information used garage for our car as we are travelling and that was fine would use hotel again we had a comfort room which was a nice size
Convenient hotel for exploring the Old Town
The hotel has two sections and one of our rooms was in the updated section. Very nicely decorated, clean, convenient and cheerful. The other room was not as nice, but was clean although a bit noisy because of the sound of water running through pipes from the level above. The staff were helpful and spoke English. They were on duty 24 hours, which was ideal as you needed to ring the bell to gain access to the lobby. The location could not have been better; 500 yards to the Gare Perrache train station, and masses of bistros and cafes within easy walking distance.
Be insistent on a room change!
we were scheduled to stay there four four nights and the first night we got there, we were given a room in the 2nd part of the 1st floor which was horrible!!! I mean the lights were like white strobe lights, the rug was so old and rhin that when wed walk it would crease beneath our feet, the bathroom shower wa too small and bath towels were hand towels! I went downstairs to ask for a room change, and was told i can ask for one the next day. I went down to ask for a new room and was told there werent any rooms available however, I didnt believe him. I described the room we were in and they had another room available on the first part of the first floor!!!! Oh my !!! What a difference!! Completely unexpected with recessive lighting and everything! I later learned, that the pictures of those rooms are on different websites! Hmmmmmm
Hotel de Verdun
This is a very old building, but has been fixed up to accommodate modern needs. Very friendly, helpful staff. We had about a 10 minute walk to get to a main town square, but a pleasant walk. Good food nearby and also the train station which was very convenient when we took the train back to Paris! I was especially pleased because the price was very reasonable for a very comfortable stay.
Charming Hotel de Verdun in great location
This hotel was worth the price. I can only agree with the other reviewers, the staff at the hotel is SO NICE! It makes you feel welcome! The hotel has a great location, just about 20 steps from the train station(where you can use an extended subway system and trams that get you anywhere, trains run very frequent!), and located in the beautiful old part Lyon. Rue de la Charite was full of nice shops, brasseries and some bars. However, the area is very quiet. The hotel room was spacious and the bed was comfy, just the carpet was a tiger pattern or something like that which is a bit odd but I liked it. The bathroom is a little more outdated but in functioning order. The only thing I would mention is that it gets a little hot and is not air-conditioned but if you are there before mid June and after August you will be fine temperature wise. this is a great place! I stayed in another hotel cross town in the newer part of Lyon for more money and was a lot less satisfied as with this hotel.
Hospitality Plus!
Hotel de Verdun was our central location during our stay in France. It is an older building. However, the rooms are very clean and the hospitality shown by the staff was excellent. They were very helpful in recommending places to dine, how to reach various locations in the city and they were especially hospitable during our unexpected extra week due to the volcano eruptions in Iceland. We definitely would return to Hotel de Verdun if the opportunity presents itself and to visit this region in France once again. Our hotel was around the corner from the Gare Perrache where we could take the tramway to different parts of town. Our walk to Old Lyon and the main dining restaurants was about 10-15 minutes. Not sure if the hotel is air conditioned which would be excellent during the hot summer days. Our room did not have a bar fridge. We are not certain if that is common in most hotels in France. Overall our experience was great and we definitely would return.
Hotel has very convinient location and staff is very helpful. We have very good experians with hotel staff.
Well Located Gem
The high point of staying at this hotel is the helpfulness and friendliness of the owner and his entire staff. The hotel is spotlessly clean, comfortable, and well-located. Anything that was not in our room was made available to us simply by asking. The lack of air conditioning was not a problem due to the fact that visited Lyon in October and had wonderful weather. This hotel is very close to the train station and metro. (A helpful travel tip....do not take a taxi from the airport....the cost was $100...for the 2 of us. The airport shuttle to the train station...a mere 5 minute walk to the hotel... cost $15.00 per person.)
Good Choice
The hotel is in good repair and the room was modern. Easy walk to all sorts of restaurants, etc., and the old part of the city. The internet and breakfast were not included which surprised me but that was probably my mistake. Close to a large garage.
GREAT HOTEL IF YOU DON'T NEED AIR CONDITIONING
Nice hotel, polite, helpful staff, close to metro, train, and bus stops. Room size is nice although shower is quite small. Only negatives are that there isn't air conditioning and the parking, although close by, is expensive.
Can't wait to go back to this Hotel
Good Hotel for Business purposes.
Ruhig, zentral, Nichtraucher
Schönes Hotel in ausgezeichneter Lage.
Better to book via another platform
Don't book this hotel with expedia. As you can read in another traveler's review, this hotel assigns the worst rooms to expedia travelers. Unfortunately is true, whatever the owner will answer here. On every floor there is an ultra small room, the others are larger. Be sure you will get the smallest. Decor of the room, bathroom and bed was anyway good. Breakfast is not very rich. The room is kinda small, in front of reception. You will have only one paper towel assigned, with no chance to pick up more (to wrap a cookie for later, for instance).
Parfait
A améliorer
Great location and service
Nice service, flexible check-in and check-out. Located in a nice area close to train/metro station and restaurants.
Super estadia!
Fomos super bem atendidos!
Basic hotel at a decent price and on a good location.
easy location
the hotel has a parking and it is very useful in that part of Lyon. The hotel is very near to metro station. You can reach any important touristic site in Lyon with three or four stops. the room are very clean and large but in my experience I felt very hot because there is not an air condioning in the rooms.
Calme
Accueil très sympathique
We ran into the hotel owners who are actually on-site and working there. In addition to running a first-class operation, they have created a unique artistic/design atmosphere that can be experienced throughout the hotel. The large, main area upon entry is a combined leisure space and breakfast room/bar. The design of the space is beautiful, fun, extremely comfortable and filled with interesting obje d'art collected by the owners at flea markets etc. We will return to Lyon if for no other reason than to spend a few more nights at Hotel Verdun. You can't have a better hotel experience than this.
