The hotel is in a great location! You can easily walk to all the major attractions! There are great transport connections as well (metro and bus). It's fairly easy to get to from the airport. My room was nice, the air con was working. The TV wasn't working but I was barely in my room so not a problem for me. The staff were okay. Please note it can be noisy at night until 12-1am as some of the rooms are facing the main street and there is a bar with a terrace downstairs. There are a few places around for food/drink. Would consider returning when I'm back in Lyon.
The basement for storing the bike wasn't exactly convenient
Great location with tons of restaurant choices
The staff was wonderful! The room was small but clean and quaint. The morning breakfast was pleasant. The location was awesome!! I would definitely stay again.
Great Stay
Excellent location! Walking distance of beautiful Lyon both old and new areas. Every time it was a surprised how easy it was to get around due to how centrally located. We enjoyed meeting Ivo, the manager. Very personable and helpful
Read my warnings
Here is a warning to anyone booking this hotel. This is a no frills hotel that will charge you for everything. If you book through Hotels or some other discount booking, they will give you the worst room in the house. We had a non air conditioned room right on the street. Either we had to listen to loud music or loud voices all night, or close the window and sweat. The staff said they were full but I had made my reservation weeks in advance and I was given the worst room in the hotel. The first night they promised an air conditioned room the next day, but after I complained to Hotels, the manager would not move us to an air conditioned room. There was a broken fan in the room, not much help. The Hotel de Paris would not give a refund and I checked out a day early, losing my money. I was on a vacation and the cost of that hotel was not worth ruining my vacation. So, here is my warning: Make sure you book a hotel that has air conditioning, make sure you pay through Hotels as they can help you, make sure you only book a refundable room, and lastly understand that most hotels will give you a poor room when you book through Hotels. Believe me, that will save you a lot of grief down the road. By they way, Hotels. com did all they could do and were very helpful. .
They had locked me out of the hotel with nobody at the front desk and no way to contact. No sign with number, nothing. I almost slept out in the street! Additionally, no shampoo in the shower the next morning. Bad stay. I do not recommend!
The property staff is excellent. The hotel itself needs some TLC
The staff was excellent, the location was perfect, I would definitely stay there again
Super nice and helpful staff Free coffee at lobby in afternoons Great location makes it a great value overall. There was no warning in the booking process online that the hotel was renovating—my room window and balcony were covered up and unable to see out of the room.
Very nice traditional hotel in a 5-floor town house. Friendly staff.
Great location convenient to many attractions in Lyon. Clean *** star hotel. Wi-fi needs to be upgraded.
There were cob webs on the corner of the room. A crew was stripping the molded ceiling in at the small foyer in the middle of the morning / day. The staff was very friendly and the location is great! However, the building is not well kept and the cleaning staff needs better training and supervision.
Clean, quiet room, friendly staff, great location!
Recommended hotel in Lyon
Great location, walking distance from every point of interest. Staff were very helpful and kind. There was a problem with the hot water in one day, but it was fixed quickly and we even got refund for our inconvenience.
Great location , close to most attractions in the area and friendly staff.
Great location near main attractions, shops and restaurants
Excellent locality very close to old town and restaurant area.Hand held shower was annoying.
Central Hotel stay in Lyon
Great hotel in Lyon close to shops and trains. Good service at the desk, and breakfast is good. Room was clean and had aircon.
Not so pleasant
Great location however rooms are really small. There was a nasty smell in the room and since the hotel was full they couldn’t change our room. They offered a discount.
Excellent location, room and staff! The room was small, but efficient and clean. I have NEVER before seen in a hotel FREE cold drinks, coffee and fruits, which HDP offers to its guests. The staff speaks very good English, really friendly and helpful, with one person (William) even taking an initiative to find a restaurant open on Sunday evening and book a table for me. The room cleaning was great, the bathroom was environmentally conscious with dispensers and towel change by request ( although the spare clean one was always there). The small issue was a noise late in an evening from a bar nearby and in a morning from service tracks, as it’s a city center. The window is noise canceling though and there is AC. Another issue is a low water pressure and the time it takes for hot water to reach the room, which are both regular issues in old beautiful buildings in France. Not a problem once one is aware and ready for this. Excellent stay overall!
Lovely hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful, loved that they provide free soft drinks in the fridge by reception. Room was spacious and location was fab!
It is very well located. A few blocks away from Metro Station Hotel de Ville. Walking distance to several grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, shops, Vieux Lyon. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very small, but very well designed with furniture that is functional and doesn’t take a lot of space. You have everything you need, a big tv, small desk, small closet to hang clothes, etc. The bed was very comfortable as well, and the room was super clean. I recommend it. I would stay there again.
Great location, classic and quirky charm. Very helpful staff.
Very quiet, yet in the city center. Close to metro, restaurants, and entertainment. Room was clean and ac was excellent. The staff were very friendly.
Comfortable room and good location
We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights to explore Lyon. Located in a very useful area of Lyon - very easy to find an abundance of amenities and restaurants. We walked everywhere we wanted to go (with the help from google maps of course) but there were options to jump on a hireable bike or scooter. Support from reception was always available and a really nice touch was the availability to a choice of unlimited free drinks from the fridge (particularly useful to take from on those hot days). Room was comfortable and overlooked the street below. Decor of our room was of a traditional and quirky French flavour - we liked it. The bed was comfortable and considering how warm t was during our stay, it wasn’t a problem with the use of a fan and air conditioning fan. Very reasonable price and would be happy to stay again. Although we didn’t have breakfast (we chose to buy pastries from local patisseries), there seemed to be a variety of choices for guests who did choose to take up the option. Happy with the overall experience to enable us to explore Lyon.
Perfect spot in Lyon! Great price for great rooms. Safe was very helpful with my lack of French and it being my first time in France. Close to so many restaurants and cafes, quick walk across the bridge to old town and about a 20 min walk to Part-Diex train station and Halles Des Paul Bocuse. I will stay here again when I come back to Lyon :)
Amazing air con and staff
Great stay in the centre of Lyon. Staff were very good especially as our french is not very good. Air con was amazing.
Great location, and a good, comfortable place, with good service. Very friendly staff, run with a lot of heart and ownership of their service. A little annoying to have to do the classic European key deposit thing every time you leave, because there wasn’t always someone at the front desk, so found ourselves waiting around a fair bit. And I still don’t understand the point.
Good position, very helpful staff; good value, decent sized room
Hotel clean & comfortable in an excellent location. Just over the River Saone from the Old Town & short walk to the main bar/restaurant area of Lyon. Staff very friendly & helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
Friendly staff, clean rooms albeit small :-) but w
Friendly staff, clean rooms albeit small :-) but worth the price. In a lively area. Light sleepers might want rooms in higher floors. Lift is quite small though. I had a nice time there
Relatively good for the price. The complimentary soft drinks, Perrier, and Nespresso were a nice service. Rooms fresh and clean, a little quirky 80s style in the room we were allocated.
Lovely, large room. Friendly staff. Complimentary soft drinks and coffee are offered every afternoon in the lobby. Central location less than ten minutes walk from the old town.
Decent hotel in the middle of the 1st arrondissement. I was upgraded so my bed was a double and was comfortable. Very affordable, nice staff, and enough for a couple of days. Would definitely stay here again.
Excellent staff who speak english.
Great hotel in the centre of Lyon
The hotel is within easy (5-10 mins.) walking distance of most major attractions and a slew of excellent restaurants, cafes and bars to suit all tastes and pockets, not to mention first -rate boulangeries, patisseries, food markets and butchers within 2-3 mins. (world -class butcher 30 seconds down the road!) The young man at reception when I arrived was delightfully friendly and helpful (very broad and good taste in music fwiw). The staff were accommodating about looking after my valuables and food purchases.I don't usually bother with hotel breakfasts, but they put on an excellent buffet which I intend to sample at least once next visit. This visit was the renewal of a very old but slight acquaintance with Lyon;I intend to return regularly and shall not consider staying anywhere else so long as the hotel remains more or less as is. Oh, complimentary soft drinks too:Coke,Orangina or Perrier! You don't offer a value for money button so,being on the mean side,I give them 9.5 out of 10.
Wonderful location
This hotel is right in the heart of Lyon. We were made feel very welcome by the most fabulous staff, nothing was too must trouble for them. The most helpful and happy staff I have ever come across which in turn made our short stay in Lyon a great one, we will be telling all our friends and family that this is the hotel in which you have to stay in when visiting Lyon. Thank you all at the Hotel de Paris and we will return.
Perfect place to unwind in the city.
I loved this small private room. It was just enough space for me to relax and unwind after busy days. Great location and excellent staff.
I had a fine stay in an unique hotel near to the city center, retrofitted into an older building (with all of the issues that provides). Themed rooms are interesting, but ultimately the commitment to theme can mean a downgrade in service (I would've preferred an actual TV to the weird Mac Computer TV, for example). Very small elevator meant taking turns to get up to the fifth (sixth) floor. The bathroom had been redone, which was nice, but it was a very small room and it meant squeezing into a shower as the door opened inwards(!), as there was no space for it to open out. Probably the thing that would freak most people out is that I returned to my room midday to find the door propped open and folks painting the door. It was a little disconcerting, but ultimately they're professionals doing work, nothing was missing, but I also got no heads-up about it and I might've handled my belongings differently had I known. The AC worked very well in my room, but it was a little noisy. International travelers will understand what a 3 star hotel means in this instance, but American travelers used to amenities at that level like hair conditioner in the shower, or an ice machine or in-room fridge, or an iron & ironing board, will probably be disappointed. Either pay for an upgraded hotel or go full-rustic and know what you're getting.
Before arrival, I asked the hotel for parking rates and was given reasonable rates. When we checked in, we were directed to the parking lot, and the rate was more than twice what we were quoted. When i told the hotel staff, they seemed to brush it off as unimportant information. Although our room had an air conditioner unit in the room, i could not find the remote for it (but I failed to ask the hotel staff about it...)
Nice hotel
It was very nice to stay and enjoy old city.
In love with Lyon!
Loved Lyon! Hotel was centrally located and staff was wonderful! Room was spotless.
Close to the heart of Lyon and the action
We chose this hotel because it is close to the Vieux Quartier of Lyon and we were not disappointed. Its decor mixes 19th century and ultra modernity - including photos of the huge wall paintings that dot this city - sometimes producing terrible incongruity but sometimes a spirit of fun. The staff are very friendly, expert and helpful. Breakfast is amazingly good for such a small food bar! The lift is tiny. T|he bed was very comfortable. The bathroom didn't have a shower curtain for the shower - otherwise very clean. We would return there.
Felt like in a shoe box
Hotel is nicely located but that is about it. I was sincerely expecting better considering the rate of the night. The room was very small. We were basically stepping on our opened luggages when not in the bathroom or on the bed. We had to ask the front desk to turn off our heater and could not control the temperature ourselves (changes have to be made by the front desk.... easy when at the middle of the night). Bare minimum in the rooms and you have to ask everything at the front desk if you need something (ex: a hair dryer) Bonus: you have to give your keys back to the front desk when you leave the hotel and get it back when you return. So if you just go get a coffee and come back you have to give them your keys still.
Very enjoyable, with a large room looking out onto the street. The bed was very comfortable. It is across from a grocery, down the street from a nice outdoor cafe, and near many very good restaurants.
Great location, small rooms.
Great location, value for money. Nice staff. The rooms are tight, but decent.
Comvient for site seeing
Good position for site seeing. Noisey Friday and Saturday nights.
Hotel de Paris in Lyon is average
While my stay at Hotel de Paris in Lyon was comfortable and the staff were terrific there were some disappointing features. These included: lack of WiFi in room - had to connect in lobby; the shower ran cold for at least five minutes before warming up; I didn't realise there were dogs at the hotel and their presence made me wonder how clean my room really was. The location was outstanding.
Good value.
Good area for tourism. Hotel well staffed. Room décor a little quirky but comfortable. Unfortunately the room had many lights but none giving adequate illumination.
basic
very basic experience. Both room and bathroom were dated, same goes for the decoration - but this was represented in photos, so it provided what was stated.
The hotel is well located for various sights in the city center. Decor is a bit odd and does not match the architecture, but eating breakfast under the watchful eyes of Mick, Keith, Charlie, and Ron was entertaining, and the paint-by-number Elvis portrait in the hallway facing the lift is not to be missed!
An okay stay
Nothing special about this hotel. It's conveniently sites in the centre of the city, but is similar to an Amsterdam hotel in that it's tall, the rooms are small, and the staff are few in number.
Ideal location next to all of the top bouchons and shopping areas and centrally convenient to walk to the other parts of town. Rooms probably need some renovating and the windows are a bit unsafe when opened. Staff is terrific and very helpful.
Rigsby in Lyon
This is a very tired hotel (hostel) relying on its great location rather than bothering with its rooms. Very shabby rooms, reminded me of the British sit com Rising Damp.
Great location
Great location, bed a bit small and hard, but other than that very good, staff just so helpful
Great location, quirky hotel.
Yet again the 'double bed' was just 2 singles pushed together. You get used to it, but still a little annoying. The hotel is in a great location with some murals right outside the hotel. The staff whilst helpful were not exactly bursting with friendliness. The were polite, generally spoke great Englush, but a little stand offish. The hotel is quirky, with each room being different. The lift is max 1 bag and 1 person only. The bathroom was decent size, but it is a shower over bath. Another quirk....the shower was at chest height, so you did have to either bend or hold the shower in your hand to wash your hair. All these things are just as I said 'quirks'. We just laughed at them, as the location was so good. Taxi from train to hotel was about €16. There is a supermarket across the road and nice restaurants close by. The river is less than 50 meters away at the end of the street. They do have breakfast in the hotel available at an additional charge, but we didn't eat there. When you walk around Lyon look for the different directional tiles around the place, they will lead you into new and exciting parts of town that you may not have found yourself. We would stay at this hotel again, as even with its quirks, it's still a great hotel, good value for money and fabulous location.
Central location
Easy ride to area by metro. Location is close to all major sites. Bikes available at each end of the block. Restaurants nearby.
In Lyon to attend the opera
Loved the friendly staff and comfort and cleanliness of the room. Excellent location.
Cercania a red de transportes y lugares turísticos. Entorno seguro.
Superbe
Perfekt beliggenhet for sightseeing
Very nice!
Very nice location! The room was nice, comfortable bed, nice bathroom and clean. The staff is friendly and helpfully. I recommend this hotel.
A good budget stay in Lyon
No problems at all - good bed, free coffee , good Wifi.
Personale molto carino e disponibile.
Hotel hyper Centre mais au calme, accueil super, toujours à l'écoute et prêts à rendre service.Je reviendrai quand je retournerai à LYON;
I was staying here for one night at first and was so welcomed. Everything was closed by. I was back in Lyon two weeks after and booked the same place.
Great Location Amazing Value Staff 5Stars
The front desk staff were amazing! Amazing location. Value for money. Much better than the previous hotel where we paid double. Highly recommended and we will be back.
