very comfortable place. very clean. services available like nice hotel should have. No real complaints. When there are functions taking place it can be noisy but not late at night. Each room could use smart television and a comfortable chair but it is gracious and comfortable otherwise. The grounds are nice, pool is good..

We stayed at the monastery on two occasions. The room we had on our first stay had a stained and dirty carpet. We asked for it to be vacuumed and they did that, but they would be far better off, tearing up the carpet to expose the wood underneath, which I expect is beautiful. On our second stay the room was clean and had none of those issues. It’s a beautiful place with very cool old furniture. The place has lots of character and is steeped in history. It felt very special to stay there.

Bel hôtel dans un bâtiment historique

It was a pleasant surprise in what was just a stop over on my way to Ecuador.

Rooms need some new paint. Breakfast was excellent . . Good variety. Staff wonderful

Beautiful property, loved the breakfast in the garden. Comfortable room, spacious. Would have asked for a room away from the breakfast area next time, as I was woken up by activity there early in the morning. Wanted to extend my stay but sadly was all booked up.

Terrible experience

As a public figure I had been invited to many colonial places all around the world. For me it was ideal to stay in this emblematic hotel in this city which I picked to get away from my tv show and relax all the way. Employees and other people talking loud and working since 6 am didn’t let me sleep well. Also express how upset I was to the employees was nothing for them. Also the breakfast was finished two hours before they told me and when I asked about refilling, the employees answered me with bad attitude.

Like antique relics of town

This hotel has a peace and tranquility that is wonderful. The rooms are large and there was plenty of howt water. Could not have been happioer - and the breakfast was good too.

It's just fabulous! From the staff at the main desk to the staff in charge of the gate at the parking lot, they all were wonderful!! Rooms are quiet, clean, and the building has a an outstanding colonial architecture. It's close to the main touristic attractions in downtown Popayán. Highly recommended!

Mala experiencia

Los fines de semana hacen eventos con música y mucho ruido. Solo informan al hacer el CHEK in y no hay nada que hacer. Pésima experiencia. Íbamos de descanso…..

Schönes Hotel im Zentrum von Pereira. Wir hatten ein schönes Zimmer. Das Abendessen war gut. Leider kann man das vom Frühstück nicht sagen. Es wird ein einem grösseren Saal als Buffet angeboten. Die Auswahl ist sehr eingeschränkt und nicht besonders schmackhaft. Das Buffet ist ziemlich lieblos angerichtet. Wir konnten wegen eines privaten Anlasses nicht auf der Terrasse essen, was beim schönen Wetter und beim wirklich nicht schönen Esssaal sehr schade war.

Walking distance to center of town.

Wonderful experience

Excellent and easy on site parking, two exceptional staff members, exceptional, given a room overlooking the breakfast area so not happy with the room, not happy at all. NOT good internet, kept going in and out. This is a beautiful property but I would never stay there again, highly over rated.

Beautiful quiet building housing the hotel. All was serene and lovely.

Adequate hotel in a lovely colonial cloister. A bit dated and old fashioned but with spacious and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment but ok. Delicious mango, pineapple and papaya and they make fresh eggs for you. But they could be a bit more adventurous with the fruits offered, the breads could be better, and the juices are simply awful… they are watered down so much that they don’t taste of anything.

The property was very nice, but the rooms needed to be updated. I liked my room had a bathtub and balcony.

Don't do it to yourself!

It's one of the more expensive hotels in Popayan and the pictures and description look great. Do yourself a favour though and choose another hotel.... Unless you enjoy sleeping (or NOT sleeping as was the case for us) next door to a raging party. It turns out that Hotel Dann is also one of the best function venues in Popayan and hosts functions into the small hours of morning. And just when you manage to fall asleep when the music stops at 3am and the rowdy guests disperse, the construction guys turn up at 7am and start dismantling the stage and lights from the previous nights party and set the venue up for the next one! Oh, and the showers are tepid (the staff we complained to about this say it is a longstanding problem related to the age of the hotel and the kind of hot water system they have. Other than these pretty important details everything else was perfectly fine. The food at the restaurant is pretty good and the restaurant setting/decor is great. Oh and the bed was huge and extremely comfortable. If you're going to be lying awake at 2am with a pillow on your head trying to drown out the noise of blaring music and joyous revellers next door, you might as well be doing it on a big comfy bed!

Great location, excellent service

I liked the architecture and the calm/peace of the place.

This is a colonial style hotel. Exceĺent service, the only issue I had was the gym. Almost non existent. Only 4 machines, very outdated, only one worked. Other than that, great experience.

The hotel has a very good staff. their attention was oustading. I will come back again.

Amazingly breakfast and food!!

Beautiful setting right in the middle of town. It is Colombia but Popoyan is pretty high altitude. Bring a sweater.

The Hotel qualification is over scored

The Hotel has potential but at this moment needs a maintenance, the room’s carpet is to old and smells mold. Some rooms doesn’t have an hot water in the shower and the doors closet didn’t open, the breakfast was very simple and no offers variety, four days and the same small options. Some places was very damaged like a roof and so this reason was closed, and the most important very poor disabled access.

Me gusto: La arquitectura es muy bonita; sus jardines, su fuente, sus corredores, su fachada. Me gustó la actitud de servicio de los empleados. No me gustó: La alfombra de las habitaciones no da la sensación de la mayor limpieza, varias tomas eléctricas no funcionan, la lámpara de pie la tuvieron que cambiar porque tampoco funcionaba, las sillas de la habitación flojas, la nevera no tiene muchas cosas que dice la lista, los corredores no los barren cada día, El hotel es muy bonito, pero sería deseable que las cosas estén en mejor estado. Personalmente buscaré a futuro otras opciones o destinos…

The Hotel was lovely and updated. It oozed with history. We stayed 2 nights. Breakfast was good and complete. We have do have some complaints. There was no internet in the room and I couldn't even connect in the reception area. There was no hot water, even after they supposedly repaired it. The water was luke cool. I suppose they were heating water in tanks on the roof and it was very cool and rainy while we were there, so no warm or hot water. The staff were kind and helpful, but no one was ever in the managers office to talk with. For a hotel of this caliber, they should not ignore internet and hot water. Mine isn't the only complaint about the same things. It is such a shame, but unless those things were corrected, I wouldn't stay again.

Nice historical building. The swimming pool was not very clean and no deck chair and umbrella available. The service is not worth that of a 5 star. For example to go to the therms we ask for towels but the hotel don't offer that service outside of the hotel.

Don’t stay here if you plan on sleeping at all!

Both nights we were here there was loud music throughout the night. The hotel emailed us two days before letting us know that there was going to be an event but that we wouldn’t be disrupted because of where our room was located. Then on both evenings they brought us ear plugs! If only the ear plugs worked! The music was SO loud even with the earplugs. My partner and I were unable to sleep at all. The hotel refused to give us any money back. I would not recommend staying at this hotel if they have an event scheduled!!

Very good Location. Very clean. Very nice example of colonial architecture....

It is a lovely property. Very well located. Walking distance to most everything worth visiting. The room was ample, two beds which is hard to come by, and a nice bathroom. Breakfast was very good and the service was fine. The amenities though were somewhat disappointing. The steam room and sauna were cramped and dingy, the gym is a joke and the pool still had the same only two rickety lounge-chairs somebody mentioned in a previous review. No service at all pool-side and really no way to settle comfortably down to read or enjoy the lovely weather.

Fantastic Family Vacation in my Hometown.

I stayed with my family for a week at The Monasterio, the best part of it was the costumer service, people at the hotel were very friendly and ready to help at every moment specially because we were traveling with 2 kids 6 and 1. The hotel is beautiful colonial style, the food at the hotel was fantastic! I only have positive comments about our stay. Next trip will be Medellin and I'm looking forward to stay with in the Dann Carlton chain. Thank you Clara Barragan

Beautiful Hotel, nicely renovated, clean, great service and in central location in the historic part of town, I had a pretty big room with balcony, got to take the best pictures from the terrace, good breakfast, I suggested more tropical fruits for breakfast, but won't complain about it either. Will defininitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful historical building

We stayed at Monasterio for three nights. The hotel is beautiful, part of the historical center of Popayán. The staff are very courteous and attentive to your needs. Excellent, abundant breakfast is included. We had a very large room facing a very busy street. One could hear the noise of cars going by but closing the windows helped with noise reduction. The rugs in the room need to be replaced but that is a minor issue. We would definitely stay at Monasterio again.

Lovely place for a weekend

Went with my grilfriend and spent 2 days 1 night in Popayan. Lovely stay. People were kind, friendly and helpful. Room was very comfortable and dark for a good nights sleep. Great breakfast. I cannot say anything abouth lunch dinner because we had those in the city. The only complains I have is related an incident with loud music around 3am but was rapidly attended by the hotels employees. Please check warm water availability. room 204.

The hotel is very well located which allowed us to walk to all the places of interest. We think it is the best option in town.

Cockroach in the bedroom

My first impression was a beautiful hotel , around 4am I was sleeping them I was filling something in my face and neck , I removed from my face quickly , I turn the lights on went I saw two big cockroaches , I kill one, the other one scape , I called front desk in a tell him about this situation , and he’s says I came moved to another room , , Went I was doing the check out , I explained to the manager but says sorry it’s no cockroaches in the hotel , tu need to pay It’s no very nice to them ,

No 5 stars in Popoyan

We were assigned the most terrible room in the house -room209 Prison bars at the onlywindow -every body else had a terrace we had a view overllooking a small useless salon - which bythe way could ave turned this room in one oftheir luxury suite had it been part of the room itself -it was adjacent to 2 unudsed balconies over looking the great gardens . this place is certainly not as advertised a 5 stars luxury hotel In America it would hardly make 3 stars when considering the gap in the main door ofthe room, the doorto the bathroom did not stay closed. there was a lack of paint in the room, The drain in bathtub did not let water seap out so i took it out to reveal how dirty this drain was ! Brakfast was also so lacking . Terrazia restaurant used for welcome drinks no music - we were alone sipping a fruit cocktail........In morning tables set in front of arches no views into the gardens the only nice surroundings in that drab restaurant - No welcome Good morning Buenas Dias ,no smiles - no music - half empty trays in buffet ,terrible !

Good location

Hotel is located in the historic center next to San Francisco church, which is probably the most beautiful in Popayan. A short walk-in distance to sightseeing places and restaurants. Rooms could be updated, specially the bathrooms.

Grand empty hotel

The Monasteria is a stately well maintained historic hotel. No AC and no elevators could be a negative for some. Great pool and courtyard. Super value and perfect location. The only negative is so few guests. No one at dinner, no one by the pool. Perhaps Popayan has become less attractive to tourists. There is so much to see and feel here we stayed another day.

Great hotel, but . . .

Hotel Danny is very lovely and well worth staying there. We had a room in the front, and had to choose between keeping doors closed to lessen the street noise, or better ventilation. No one heats or cools in Popayan, so having a window you can open is very desirable. Wish I had asked for a different room.

Wonderful Experience

On arriving the first impression is stunning, and as you go into the interior it gets even better. It would be hard to beat this hotel, in our opinion. The gardens are nice and the pool is big enough to have a proper swim. The food in the restaurant is excellent. I recommend the rolled trout in a coconut sauce - wonderful. Breakfast is also very good, choice of eggs, bread, croissants, fruit etc. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Thoroughly recommended!

Not a relaxing place to stay....

The hotel is as beautiful as the pictures suggest. However, this is the issue as the hotel is now used for corporate events (live band over a PA system until 3am) and wedding venue (a bit awkward having food on the restaurant terrace while a wedding service is being held on the same terrace)

A tired old hotel

The Dann Monesterio is an imposing building near to the center of town. Alas there is quite a bit of deterred upkeep. The carpets are frayed. The mirror on the bathroom door was loose. The lights are too dim to read by. This hotel is not representative of what i otherwise know to be an excellent chain.

Magnificent historic hotel in great city center location. The rooms are dark. Ask for one with an outdood terrace. The rooms need better lighting. There was not enough light to read or right. Management out to be smart enough to add lamps. Bar service was non existent and terrible. No place to socialize. Mediocre breakfast. Food below average, certainly not 5 star.

Great historic place with great atmosphere.

We decided too stay one more night the rooms we had was fantastic. The service at the front desk was great. The building was very nice.

Feeling the history and atmosphere from long ago.

When we arrived and parked our car and tent trailer in safe carpark, We were welcomed by the front desk people. We got a very nice room with lots of space. The hotel is built in the old monastery what has a lot of history. The building is great,with many facilities,sitting area,s dinning room. Swimming pool. It is a great place to be and walking distance to the Historic town and restaurants,museums.

Very good hotel for Popayan, but room for upgrades

The hotel would be better advertised as a four star, not a five star as it's a good hotel, but far from a five star. Everything was fine except service at the restaurant for breakfast. Guests should not have to wait 45 minutes for coffee/tea service. The restaurant staff needs to be trained to greet guests and make them feel welcome. An offer for coffee or tea right after being seated goes a long way as does a sincere "buenas dias!" Ignoring guests for forty-five minutes leaves one with the impression that this hotel is far from a five star. Train your staff!

nice but very disappointing and a bit suspicious!

The first 2 days we did not have hot water the front desk lied and said it was a problem with the city. later we found out that the hotel regulates the hot water for the guest they consider more worthy. if they fix the hot water system and add more pressure then they can make all their guests feel worthy. Checking out was a huge problem because they charged me with a 16% IVA tax, roughly $60.00 US that is not applicable to US citizens but only applicable to nationals. I got the run around and a bunch of excuses and about half dozen reasons why it was applicable to me, it wasn't until it was explained to them that my passport was stamped exempted from taxes and showed them where to find it on the copy of my passport they made and kept. I find it hard to believe that a hotel that deals with visitors from the US on a daily basis each and every day do not know of this exemption. After much communication between them and us they agreed to send me an email with a form attached for us to fill out and an account where the money will be sent. I find that strange since I've repeatedly asked for a copy of my hotel bill which they have not been kind enough to submit to me... still. They gave me a copy only of what we consumed (ice cream and coffee) I'm still waiting for my actual hotel bill. Front office needs to be revamped or seriously retrained. I'm not sure I would stay there again until that happens, shame because it's a nice hotel.

This hotel with 5 stars do not have air conditioning, the beds are not that comfortable and the overall services appears to be more as a three stars hotel.

Great for Holy Week

Very clean and staff is very efficient, Holy Week is a special week in Popayan and even with 1,000 of people in town, Hotel was quiet and service was very good. There's a lot of history inside this pace and you can learn from their staff.

dishonest people running the hotel

Horrible experience in the hotel. Room provided were not 42 sq meters but 20, when this was point out to the management they fixed it with a vague make a complaint Food taken in the restaurant was of a bad quality and seems reheated (Sea food risotto - The rice was too cooked and the sea food was like eating a piece of plastic. When this was point out to the waiter they fixed it with a vague make a complain When checking out they will force you to pay for a hotel insurance (USD 7 per day per person). This is illegal by Colombian Law as they have to ask you if you want to have such insurance. On the other hand, the charge is way over the normal price for an insurance policy. All taxes were paid in when booking. However at checking out time they will require you to pay the VAT. Even after talking to the headquarters, which they agreed that if the booking says fully paid it was fully paid, and a copy of the booking sent to them to confirm it, management acted like the withdrawal of the VAT charge was a favour, instead recognising their mistake. Internet wasn't working properly either. I wouldn't recommend to go to this hotel
