Buen lugar, hotel viejo
Rooms were spacious. Water pressure in bathroom was low. Staff was friendly, some spoke English, with others used translation apps. Location was convenient too.
The property is in great location. The rooms are super clean and the housekeeping people are very friendly. The rooms has a light saver on top of the door. Light from the aisle don’t let you sleep.
Room is firty, dusty very poor conditions, staff ok
The hotel is right in the heart of the city. Just a few blocks in any direction will keep you busy day and night. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to provide good service. The hotel is obviously old, but that is part of its’ charm. It is historic and culturally grand, and they keep it in decent condition. But if you are looking for modern perfection, then go stay at the Hilton. I prefer to be where the people treat you like you are part of the family.
Very safe
Lugar agradable
Todo fue genial. El único problema menor fue que el WIFI no llegaba a la habitación, así que tuve que ir al pasillo para usar el wifi y hacía mucho calor afuera, pero me quedaría allí de nuevo.
Good for what I paid
Central location near to museums and restaurants
It is God prices in nice location near everything but they need clean better
Receptionist they are not very friendly
Very old building, very old rooms, very dirty, restaurant mot working all day, pool dirt and bad customer service. The only good thing is that is very close to Plaza Grande
Very safe property
Ok for the price.
It's a very old hotel. Beautiful and part of Merida's history. It could use some renovation and fresh painting all over the halls, rooms and bathrooms. The elevator could be substituted for a new one. What was really a problem was the WIFI service. Not good at all. Specially in the rooms since it only has one modem for all the hotel. Even in common areas like the lobby WIFI is slow and weak.
Very professional and TRUSTWORTHY staff
Location Location totally central. Walk to everywhere. Cant beat this.
Location location very convenient. Hotel is ok, location rules
This is an old basic hotel, clean, safe easy access to everything. It’s an easy walk to great food local history and transportation to other areas.
We should have know you can’t go back. We stayed here for 4 weeks 36 years ago and thought a bit of nostalgia would be fun. It’s an ok hotel, the room we booked was in the deepest bowels of the hotel, it was horrible. There are no pictures of this room. We paid for an upgrade as they knew we would and the charged us an extra night. The refund was so arduous for them we said $&@! it, as they knew we would. That said the place is clean and our room was quiet and centrally located. I am afraid we will not be back. There are so many better options.
The location was great. . . That was it. Everything else was absolutely horrible
Room was probably clean but didn’t look like it (maybe just paint the room). Internet was not working as I was last room in hallway. I was offered a new room right away!
We payed for cook to order breakfast for 7 days and all we got was daily vouchers for 'complementary continental breakfast' Fruit ,cereal and coffee . If you order an actual breakfast you have to pay extra and for the price you can definitely eat better elsewhere . Everything else was great and the location is perfect!
Location is very convient to center of cultural activities.
Used to be a steam bath here 30 yrs ago. Wish it still worked.
Location Location Large room, all basic (good AC, Cable TV, bathroom necesities and price
The parking is really far. It spoilled our Day 1. We then paid for parking in the adjoining lot. That made things easier. Otherwise its really conveniently located close to the Historic center. Good restaurants and shops really close
It was really good
You get what you pay for. Not a fancy hotel however it offers the basic needs of a stay, comfortable beds, tv, internet, breakfast, pool and free parking. The best thing about this hotel it's the location. The plaza is at 5min walk with numerous restaurants, galleries, book stores and nightclubs. Staff was super friendly and courteous.
Easy check in. Great location: restaurants, shopping, attractions all within walking distance.
Location was great. Internet service went out during rain.
It was very safe and honest personnel
The maintenance of the hotel is slipshod, I even went out and bought a pair bedside walllights to replace broken ones. The maintenance man did install them (his work would not pass codes here [ wirenuts were incuded] he didn't use them. The staff were so helpful when asked upon, they even got to know my morning ritual, Tea first, fruit second, then the juice theirs or mine, toast.
While centric, hotel provides the basics.
Good choice, close to the plaza grande
Near grand plaza, staff friendly, breakfast ok for money (extra paied), pool not so cline, cleanliness the room not good enough, and need maintainace, but ox value for money
Love the pool and old tile floors,
Block from Chathedral
Block from Zocalo near everything. Courteous staff, very clean huge room. Would stay again.
Won't do it again
While the hotel was beautiful the services were horrible and rude, the room looked nothing like the pictures. It was noisy every morning with dishes banging and cleaning crew blasting the tv while they cleaned the rooms around me. There was no drinking water available, no cups or ice. Soap and towels were only available on the second day after complaining to management. The elevator didn't work and staff refused to help with luggage. The location, on the other hand, was great
Location location
Happy in my stay at Hotel Colon
I was very pleased with my stay at Hotel Colon. Very clean, friendly staff. The breakfast was good for the price and is close to the City center.
I love their pool and plants. Also the old tiles. Very clean rooms and was quiet.
Have used this hotel for 30 years. Love their swimming pool. The colors are beautiful green and blue surrounded by a lovely garden with blooming flowers and bananas on trees. The antique tiles in entrance are from olden times. Very comfortable beds and spottless clean. Smiling faces.
Location is great, cleaning staff was very friendly. Hotel itself could use some upgrading on furniture. Water pressure was not very strong. Only sheets on the beds no covers or blanket. It was not a bad experience staying there, considering the price.
This is an old ,basic ,clean, safe room. It is easy walking distance to restaurants transport shopping and lots of cultural events( covid has them on hold) The staff is great . This was my third stay at this hotel and will revisit my next trip to Merida
Great location
Good Option to be in downtown
This hotel,is convenient to everything I like about Merida. We stay at this hotel everytime we come to Merida. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean and efficient. The one thing that would be nice to have in the room would be a fridge to keep water cold and leftovers (the food is great in this town!).
Stinky Room with a great view
Overall, the hotel needs a complete overhaul! Very run down. The room I stayed had a great balcony view, the beds were uncomfortable, hard and made a lot of metal noises when laying down. The shower drain had a smelly, nauseated, rotten and poop gases coming out. I request to be moved to another room, but no luck. Instead a maid was sent to my room to poured a liquid cleaner Pinol and bleach in the sewer drain. Did not work! In order to sleep in the room, I had to go out and bought newspapers, wrap a plastic bag around the sewer drain and placed the trash can on top to stop the smell. The location is perfect on the heart of downtown Merida, but the hotel needs a face lift ASAP! This is 3rd time, we have stayed here there were issues in the past, but resolved. No plans to rebooked again. The hotel has a lot of potential hopefully the management will read this review and do something to fix the sewer issues and replace outdated furniture.
Historic rooms with nice pool area for budget
Pool area great. Sheets had hair on them but we're cleaned.... Rooms old but cleaned. Walls dirty....Breakfast ok...eggs coffee fruit good. Great location...good price...
Love the pool and location although 3:30 am other people talking alot in hallways, disturbing
Lovely hotel but lacked some little things.
Great staff, pool, courtyards, beautiful but we expected a bar & restaurant. No bar but a breakfast area. Four women expected at least 2 towels each per day (only 1), no hand towel to dry your hands, no facecloths. We ended up buying some which we brought home. There is no pick-up or return to airport. Little things but on the whole we enjoyed our stay and what's not to like about Merida?
Go somewhere else
Great location and that's it...look somewhere else. There are better options
I really enjoyed my stay here, location is great, staff are great and breakfast is great, the beds are comfortable, hot water takes a minute to come through but once it does the shower is good, My only problem with this hotel is that house keeping start knocking on your door from 9am to make up the room, Maybe if they offered a do not disturb hanger for the door knob this issue could be avoided but overall this is a fantastic hotel to stay in
X
Lugar con buen servicio. Y buena locación a 3 cuadras de la Plaza. Pero ya todo un poco viejo. No regreso
I love the location. The staff were amazing but the room was very outdated, the view was horrible and the closet door fell off the runner. I will upgrade to a nicer room if I decide to stay there again.
Okay room but better location
The first room we stayed in was a little shabby but then we changed rooms and it was in overall better condition and it was what we expected. The location was the best part of the hotel, near everything popular in the city.
Price location large pool and garden friendly staff 2blks Plazza GRandelarge park huge church built I’m 15 hundreds much much more 2nd 2wk stay ?
Best bargain large pool and garden 2biks plaza grande main one in
Old basic hotel. convenient, safe and , very clean ,nice staff. Near Grand Plaza
Hotel is a bit worn out. The shower was sad and needs attention. Great location. Despite some short comings I would still recommend this hotel for budget travelers
Paint falling from walls, lavabo not fixed on the wall, no hot water during my 4 days stay.
This is a budget hotel in a tropical climate. Keeping that in mind, our stay was excellent. Pros - Very comfortable beds and very friendly and helpful staff. Nice pool area, beautiful tiled lobby. Plenty of hot water. Cons - Room has a fairly small window and was somewhat dark. Like many hotels in in Centro Merida, we could clearly hear the bands at a nearby nightclub from about 11pm on Friday and Saturday nights (it was really good music though!)
Well run but NO HOT WATER
Well run but no hot water
Location is Everything
Always a welcoming staff.
The hotel is in a great location; very close to everything. It was always clean. Service was excellent and the staff were very polite and helpful. I will definitely stay there again.
Hotel Colon is near to multiple restaurants and near to the zocalo. Great people and great service. They let us use their installations (pool, showers, washrooms) after checking out from our room for a full day until leaving to the air port. The Hotel is ok. It needs some small renovations but over all great place to stay. Note if you are booking rooms between rooms 20 and 26 on weekends next door is nigh club that on weekends is supper loud. My wife and I did not care since we were traveling most of the day that during night time we're so tired that noise was not an issue to sleep. Lastly about parking next door is a private parking lot that you can get discount in the hotel.
A bit like Mexico itself, the hotel has different layers of style, form"colonial" (probably of the 20's to severe Art Deco facade, and north side of building. Yes, the old adage of "location, location" was true. Unfortunately, I had to move because on the left side (facing the building)is a club that played bad rock music until midnight. Hot water seems to be a problem the upper floors. Could we say the furniture is old or retro? The pool was unheated, thus largely unusable. But given the rate, the hotel was saved by the warm and helpful staff.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this little hotel. Every single person on staff was so kind and so welcoming. This is a beautiful Classic Mexican hotel which jas preserved the charm and character of the property which upgrading rooms to with modern air conditioning and beautiful new bathrooms. Location is everything in Merida. This hotel is a five minute walk from the Main Square. It is in a SAFE neighborhood. There are many wonderful, and wonderfully inexpensive restaurants within a block. The BEST prices for Guyabera shirts and linen dresses are a block up the street. Noise is a major issue at any Hotel im Merida. The tradition is for the front doors to be Wide Open 24/7. This Hotel is QUIET. It is designed so that you dont hear traffic noise in your room. Oh, and a Wonderful Cooked breakfast was inclused in the room rate. A fruit plate or juice, 2 cooked to order eggs, Bacon or sausage, and freshly brewed coffee.
I hav stayed in this hotel over the last 30 yrs. Only out point is hatdly hot water regular. It has a gorgeous pool i luv to catch a dip on and garden is nice. Thank you for caring
A good place to stay near downtown area. Very clean and comfortable.
Easy check in- some parts of hotel closed. Like restaurant only breakfast and pool closed due to renovations.
I hav stayed here when in Merida for yrs. Great pool and excellent safe location. Good price
Place was nasty and front desk person was rude. Sent me to the room which ket did not work. Then sent to another room which ac did not work
Never again
I stayed there one night....i cant think of one good thing to say....other than it did have a bed....and kinda had a shower.....never again....it was a rip off at 25 bucks
Terrible
First they put me in a room worse than a jail cell no window and dirty. I asked for a room with window. They put me front room facing busy street. Better than jail cell pool was ok. But for money you can stay many great places for same price
Location is the BEST.
This is probably one of the best "traditional" hotels in the area for the price. You are just a couple of blocks from Plaza Grande, and a couple of blocks from some great restaurants. Yes, the property does show it's age, but it has been well maintained. Suggest you request a room not on the first floor, as it can be noisy at times on the first floor - unless you have a room towards the back near the swimming pool.
Was good place clean and the service good people are great
Good value if you don't require luxury.
The hotel was a good value, but definitely showed its age. The furniture may have been there since the 1940s. Still, they had modernized the tiny bathroom and the WiFi was good. The location is excellent.
Hotel colon is a nice place. Close to everything
This hotel was clean affordable and close to everything. The room was large but had only one chair and the beds. Of course there were built in crest of drawers and open closet. It was clean and comfortable. Good restaurants were close by as were the plazas! I will definitely stay here again
Very good location
Great experience would definitely use again. Staff and Guest all very friendly
Close to the plaza
The staff was very helpful. We spent the night before leaving early for the airport. The cab was waiting when we were ready. I loved all of the tiles and the location.
We’ll be back!
It’s an old building but very well kept and in a fantastic location. Very clean with a nice staff!
Get what you pay for
The location is good.. but the hotel is very outdated, there were bugs in my room, and a horrible smell the entire time I was there. Comfortable bed, door handle falling off.
Downtown hotel
Mi wife and I stayed two nights at this hotel, we had a room with a balcony overlooking the street, We had a pleasant stay, nothing fancy with the room, but it served its purpose.
Stayed 2 weeks january2017 Back
Good location, colonial. No frills
Common areas are lovely and in a colonial style. Pool nice. Rooms and beds okay- no frills but location excellent
Can't Beat the Location for the Price
This is an older colonial hotel, but don't let that keep you away. The location of this hotel is certainly it's best feature, but they also have a great swimming pool in the rear of the property. The only negative I would comment is the elevator is certainly old and small - as elevators were back in the day. However, it still works and certainly comes in handy if you are staying on the upper floors. The staff were pleasant, but limited English skills.
Old hotel, ok for the price
The hotel is nice, rooms were clean but the front desk staff was useless. There is no free parking during the day, only at night which means you will have to move your car around a lot.
Very small, window lock was broken, glass out of the bathroom windows, no shower curtain, view from window was big broken chunks of concrete. Checked out 30 minutes from checking in.
a nice hotel located near the historic center
This is an old hotel with a lot of character. The staff was pleasant and very accommodating. The location is excellent if you want to walk to many historic sites, including the central plaza, cathedral, and markets, as well as a good variety of restaurants. The pool is not good for small children, as there is not a shallow end, but it's large and clean and great for swimmers. The pool area does need some new, comfortable lounge chairs. I've been here before this trip and will stay again. Don't stay here if you want the Hyatt, but if you want a nice hotel with Mexican charm, this is a good choice.
Two Gradmothers - Summer of 2017
The personnel was very professional, friendly and warm. The room the first night was not what we expected (too dark no windows, the wall paint was chipped, no body towels to take a shower etc.). Also the elevator was not working. However, after speaking with the staff we were moved to another room 2nd floor. The hotel accommodations were exactly like the ad and pictures in the Hotel.com webpage. The elevator was fixed by the 2nd day, so we could used. As I said, our experience was very pleasant and we enjoy the hotel staff that may our stay warm and peaceful. The location was outstanding a block from the main Cathedral. The cost per night was a bargain, we highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Definitely we will consider to book the lodging in our next trip.
Clean hotel with pool, very centrally located
We loved how everything was in easy walking distance of this hotel. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. We would recommend it to friends.
Inexpensive, safe, popular
Staff very kind, helpful, VERY close to Calle 59, buses, Uber taxis etc. Centrally located and the hub of hotel options.
Nice location
Location is very good, walking distance to main attractions of the city. Staff were really helpful. Breakfast was good. The hotel is very old so the state that it is in is understandable. You get what you pay for.
old historic hotel w beautiful courtyard
30 yrs ago when I last stayed here it was a happening hotel with a steam room (even with some private banos in your room) and a popular place to meet and have a drink around the outdoor pool. Now it still has a beautiful courtyard, but the steam rooms are no longer in operation and it's fairly deserted. The rooms are.basic and the shower produces only a trickle - at least on the room we occupied. It's in a good location 1 1/2 blocks from the zocalo and it costs around $25 per night thru Expedia - more for walk-ins. I guess nostalgia ain't what it used to be...
Dirty room with dirty sheets
Historic building. The lobby was very nice. The room was run down, dirty, terrible bathroom. Dirty sheets. We left a day early because the prepaid room was unpleasant.
Xmas getaway
Great location and that's about it. Room was very basic but the bathroom was disgusting; mold, rust, and the horrible sewer/musty, nasty smell that just would not go away. I didn't want to stay, didn't care that 3 nights were already paid for. Hubby said we should try to stick it out since we weren't going to be in the room most of the time. We used sandals in the tub and held our breaths. It just needs a major reno, don't know how they rent rooms(301) with a bathroom like that.
Great location, service, info, staff, environment
The location is great because is close to main plazas and activities. Staff is friendly and informative about events, history, local culture, traditions, etc. Internet worked perfectly and having swimming pool in that weather was perfect. A hotel with historical value; great time.
Colonial, good location, good value, good internet
Great location, typical of Merida, good internet when on, very responsive when asked for help. Only has hot water in the bathroom sink, shower no, but it is so hot in Merida that is the custom. There is no room service but this hotel is located in the heart of the city surrounded by great places to eat who would want it? This is a small diamond worth staying at.
Nice safe old hotel near Grand Plaza
The hotel Colon was built in the 1920's and remodeled in 1970. The hotel is spotless snd safe. It is old so the rooms have all the basics but no frills. the pool and outdoor setting areas are very nice. it is near Grand Plaza and the cultural centerof Merida. this is not a luxury hotel but crrtainly a great value.
Nice hotel clean courteous staff
Steps from centro. Close to shops restaurants and busses. Quiet and comfortable
Convenient, clean and comfortable
The hotel colon is an old school facility in the heart of Merida. The building is beautiful, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the employees were courteous and helpful. We'll be back.

This property is very charming and the staff where great especially Ricardo! What I did not like about this property is the safety of the room. The one lock on the inside was a rusty old chain that was screwed into the wood trim of the wall. I could have ripped it off myself. I saw the neighboring room and the lock was the same. I think Kavia hotels should step it up a notch or two in that regard! This hotel was also very noisy. I think all inner courtyard hotels in the area are noisy as any noise echoes through the halls. It adds to the charm but bring ear plugs or expect a number of wake ups.
