Great location wonderful staff Old school vibe on decor!
This is a building built in 1880. (?) It has lots of charm. The whole experience was great, but what really stood out was the staff. They were very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make the stay great.

Good stay :)
Nice people!
Really quirky, great location for an evening in the city. Staff are fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Columbus is a busy street, so some noise, but not too bad.
Beautiful and unique, with lovely colors in the rooms. I don't like hotels that feel sterile, this has personality and comfort too.
Great location. Wonderful staff.
Great staff. Full of charm
This is our very favorite hotel to stay in on the planet-the staff makes all the difference with their excellent customer service. The rooms are comfortable and North Beach is the place to be... shall be back!
The friendly staff were wonderful. Made us feel welcome right away. The bed was comfortable. Such a cute spot. I will definitely stay here again
This is a boutique hotel. The rooms are small but lovely. The location is so convenient to everything. We had a family emergency and needed to check out a day early. They were very understanding and refunded the last day charge. The people that work there are some if the best. I highly recommend it
It is hotel with history. It knew a better days. Staff is friendly, helpful and nice. Some historical moments are really facilitated. But the rest is from that time.
Authentic boutique hotel in central location in North Beach neighborhood. Very clean and cozy. Perfect and matched my expectations for a family visit in the area.
Fantastic
Perfect for what I needed. Great atmosphere and location. Show is a little small which is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
The hotel was so charming and the staff all very inviting Ns friendly! Will stay regularly!
Hotel was right near a busy street that had lots of restaurants to choose from all with walking distances. Some issues wehad were the room was really hot, and the window doesn't open. Their is no fridge in the room. Qlso their is false advertising with where the hotel is, on Expedia you have the hotels name above a green building however the hotel is right next too it, this to me is an Expedia issue.
Terrific Location
Terrific location, hotel has lots of character. The neighborhood was walkable and charming. Chose a front facing room to watch the street action but the noise from trucks and motorcycles during the night and early morning hours made sleeping difficult.
Thanks!
Great stay!
Loved our stay
Gorgeous little place with tons of character in the heart of downtown San Francisco! Walking distance from so many great restaurants and night life. Highly recommend.
Vintage hotel with lots of charm
Loved the location, in the heart of North Beach, adorable older property.
Best location in San Francisco. A short walk to anything you might like to do. Our favorite.
We loved the free wine and cheese, the free breakfast, the gas fireplace in the room, and the easy walk to restaurants, Cannery Row and the water. Be it known though that you are not staying in the house shown in the picture but rather in a newer two-floor wing adjacent to it.
Quirky hotel in perfect location. Lovely staff. Wonderful stay.
I love the Mob.
Put a little mustard on it.
Hotel Boheme is a great place to stay. It is right in the heart of North Beach. You are steps away from Sotto Mare for the best scallops! Keys jazz club, Club Fugazi, The Saloon, are all within walking distance. Nick at the hotel was especially nice and attentive. I highly reccomend this hotel.
The decor and energy of this hotel is fantastic; encapsulating the great American literary and arts history of this area and time. Enjoy, have some sherry, and enjoy a moment in a bar or cafe before exploring the area.
Great location!
Great location
My husband and I stayed there since it’s close to where our daughter lives. Just convenient location. What I didn’t realize was the big flight off stairs when we arrived. That would have been ok but the hotel definitely needs some freshening up.
Great place. Helpful friendly staff. Beautiful historic details throughout the hotel.
Great location, friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay.
This is a very characterful hotel. Full of charm. Friendly and helpful staff. Right in the middle of North Beach with great cafes, restaurants, and bars. Excellent transport links to all San Francisco's highlights. Nick directed us to some excellent music spots. Had a great stay.
The bohemian life lives on in this historic hotel! Staff are amazing and the space is a glorious dense historical experience.
Great location. Old hotel but authentic.
Nick was incredible and helped us check in easily! He also was very informative about the happenings around the hotel, and some of the cool history of the hotel itself.
This hotel is not for everyone, but I loved it. You have to climb up a flight of stairs to get up to the hotel lobby, and our room was up another flight of stairs. You are pretty much on your own for finding a nearby parking garage. Our room faced the road, but we loved opening the windows (their is not air-conditioning) and listening to the music drifting-up from the restaurants below. It is in the little Italy section of the city, so there are tons of restaurants within a block of the hotel. We used Uber to get to other parts of the city, but it is near public transportations. It was fun! I would return.
Great location
Another fantastic 4 day stay! We go every August and wouldn’t stay anyplace else. It’s close to great dining and diversions:Bix!Sodinis! Vesuvio! Just go. Nick was very helpful this last trip.
Authentic with surrounding shops and restaurants. Historically important to San Francisco.
A unique and comfortable hotel. We loved staying here. Great area. Nice room. Only downside was no elevator. But beyond that it was perfect.
Weekday getaway
Found the hotel as it was very well kept and just a photographed. Registration is located up the stairs on the second floor. A warm welcome and escort to the room to make sure it was prepared. Lovely accommodations beautiful decor and very clean. It was lovely to come back to a quiet, clean and private room after touring the city.
This boutique hotel is in the center of North Beach and is in walking distance to Fisherman's Warf and close to the cruise port. It is a unique hotel that has been around since the 60's and has maintained its decor and charm. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The only negative is the lack of an elevator, as all the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. However the staff helped carry my heavy luggage to my room. A nice touch was the complementary "sherry hour" between 4:00 - 8:00 pm for all the guests. If your not looking for luxury amenity filled hotel, this is the perfect place to stay. We loved our 3 days there touring San Francisco for the first time.
Fab
Lovely room and very clean and cozy setting. Would recommend. Great location close to restaurants and 20 min walk to Fisherman’s Wharf
We really enjoyed our stay. It’s in a perfect spot in North Beach, walkable to Coit Tower and Fisherman’s Wharf and with bus stops steps away to get to further locations. The history of the area and hotel added to the experience, and we loved being able to look out over Columbus Ave. from our room. (We also loved being right above a great bakery!)
Everything about our stay at Hotel Boheme was perfect!
Great location! Extremely clean! Helpful staff!
This hotel presents itself as a cute boutique hotel, but what it really is , is an old building with musty carpet, creaky doors, and very very basic amenities. The staff is not supportive and only available during the daytime so if you have any issues past the end of their shift, like I did, you're out of luck. O could go on about the issues I face during my stay (which I cut short as I couldn't stand to stay here more than one night) but I will summarize with a quote from the front desk staff: "you booked through expedia and their rates are so cheap, we usually don't assign expedia guests to the nice rooms"... If you're looking for a spooky vibe and are ok with very old and smelly buildings, go ahead and book, but request a room in the 2nd floor, apparently they are better than the ones on the 1st floor. I did eventually get a refund for my second night so at least that part wasn't a total loss. 0/10 do not recommend
Great location, great character, great staff.
Cute, cozy, and quirky. Delightful spot for those looking for authenticity over bland generic spaces. Steep creaky stairs, vintage decor, personable staff.
Like a step back in time but with a comfortable bed.
Better pack light!
25 stairs with a sharp turn and no one to help with luggage. Be warned. Otherwise not bad.
Hotel Boheme was right in the thick of North Beach with great staff and adorable rooms and super cute dressers! We felt like we were in an old school Italian pensione or a French hotel but with bathrooms and heat! We have a great time here.
… this is not a chain hotel stay, this is an interesting, quirky little place that is just perfect. I asked for room off the street, but none were available… There was noise outside till about 10 and then it quieted down and I slept wonderfully on a very comfortable bed. If you want to charming stay right in the heart of Little Italy, this is the place.
Great location, close to Coit Tower, Chinatown, Lombard Street and the wharf area.

Absolutely wonderful hotel and a great staff. Small but cozy and warm. Great location with dining options just outside. Public transit on the same block. Will definitely look into this hotel again for future trips to SF.
Not to be missed
This is one fabulous hotel. Do not be intimidated as you enter. The first thing you see is a long set of stairs. Once you get your suitcase up there, you will realize you are staying in the best hotel location in San Francisco. Restaurants are all around. . . Italian, Chinese, seafood. This neighborhood has it all. Fisherman’s Wharf is a quick 15 minute walk. Robert at the front desk was friendly and professional as we checked in. Other front desk personnel answered any questions we had. I’ll be back!
Charming, historic place in North Beach. Can’t beat the location!
If you are looking for the Hyatt, this isn’t it. This is a boutique hotel in an older building in an amazing location. If you want an experience THIS IS IT! Be aware you take steps up to lobby and to rooms so if you can’t carry your luggage up there is no elevator. Ring buzzer for entrance. They will give you a key for the door during your stay. I will say the street noise is loud but finally quiets down. We had friends in a nice chain hotel complain of same thing. The city is busy. Location: little Italy. We felt safe all day and rarely saw the social issues that plague other areas like Union Square and Tenderloin. A beautiful park near by that was setting up an art show as we left. Amazing restaurants and Italian bakeries. Step outside front door of hotel for a patio dining experience on one side and the best Italian cookies on other side (get the pound assorted cookies) They stored our luggage for us as we went to brunch with friends before we left as you should never leave anything that matters in your car anywhere in the Bay Area (unfortunately we know from experience). The parking garage for this location is about a block away and easy to get to $36 for overnight. We ubered to different parts of city at night. If we get a chance to come back we’d stay here again
Great location but an older building.
The location was fine. The hotel was clean, but the room was very small, smelled like cigarettes/cigars and there was no AC.
Charming hotel. Lousy taxi service.
Susan was very gracious when we checked in and gave us a choice of rooms. She ordered a taxi for us for 5:45pm. It did not come and I reported that to Susan and she tried again ( a couple of times, I believe). Taxi finally showed up about 6:20. Susan was very apologetic and came down on the street with. The lousy taxi service was the only blemish on the evening . AND certainly NOT Susan's fault.
Such a gorgeous, charming hotel and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful , thanks for a great stay!
This hotel is SO cute ! My stay was short, but the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The bed was super comfy. I’d definitely stay here again.
Great place to stay. Excellent location. The room was very clean and the bed was really comfortable!
Great stay. Very comfortable bed and a great location to all things Italian. :)
Kind and helpful staff, unique decor with local vibe. Incredible location walkable to many sitrs and lots of great restaurants.
This place is an absolute gem. Right on Columbus in North Beach, the rooms are comfortable and beautifully decorated with a beatnik flair that makes them utterly unique. Our last stay, we were in the “Allen Ginsburg” room-wonderful! Walk outside and no matter which way you go, there’s an adventure and astoundingly good dining. City Lights Bookstore, Vesuvio, Sodinis...you can’t go wrong. Coit Tower in easy walking distance, Chinatown next door and Fisherman’s Wharf a short Muni ride away. The hotel is the only place to stay in North Beach! The people that work there are accommodating to a fault and so kind. We’re already gearing up our next stay. I won’t stay anywhere else in San Francisco. Thank you Hotel Boheme for making our visit so nice! As long as you’re there, we’ll be there. Mark Mayfield Phoenix, AZ
N the Heart of North Beach
This is a charming historic hotel in the heart of North Beach. It is clean and well-maintained; although, you're not going to find an ice or vending machine down the hall. The bed was very comfortable.
historic charm in the heart of SF
We stayed for a weekend getaway and this was the perfect hotel for our needs. Right in the heart of the North Beach district of San Francisco with lots of cafes and restaurant. This no-frills hotel was very charming with lots of history. Love the unique and romantic feel of the rooms, almost as though we weren transported back to a time when life was slower-paced. In a word, perfect!
Great North Beach vibe, not great for Moscone
This is a tricky review to write. If you're into small, boutique hotels with a good vibe in North Beach, I can see it being a great fit. I was in town for a conference at Moscone, and it wasn't great for this purpose. WHAT I LIKED: My room was silent, even on a busy street with nearby bars and live music. Very friendly, professional staff. Comfortable bed. WHAT I DIDN'T: Lugging my heavy suitcase up and down a long, narrow staircase. My small room, with barely enough room to move around the bed, no desk, and a tiny TV on a tiny stand. The lack of nearby, full-service breakfast places open at 7:00 (I went to Brioche Bakery on Columbus). The challenge of getting to the Moscone Center in morning-rush-hour traffic through the financial district (the Mason cable car line is about 3 blocks away, which was great the morning I caught it, and lousy the morning I just missed it). Overall I'm not sure it was worth the ~$300/night rate. But under different circumstances, I'd be a great fit.
Wonderful experience!
Lovely greeting from the reception desk, including tips on what to do and advice on public transit The room was a bit warm but thankfully a small fan was provided that offered air movement and white noise to mask the street noises. Worked great! Couldn’t get the curtains to close, no dial tone on the phone. Overall I loved the ambiance and friendly staff. I’d recommend this hotel!
Ok boutique hotel, great location
The room was of adequate size, darker in colours but goes with the style. Service attentative. Location is the best thing about this hotel. Stayed in room away from the room as I had requested a quieter room. However, you will hear e.g. neighbour speaking, taking a shower fairly loudly but im not sure if this is standard in the US (nevertheless the sound levels woke me up in the quiet room, and Im not known to be a light sleeper). Unfortunately I am rather asthmatic, lack of ventilation and something triggering made us change hotels after two nights so you might want to reconsider if you are prone to allergies due to lack of ventilation/dust (my symptoms got better after one night in the next one and I did not go in in a condition). On the side of comfort, I wish the room had had a coffee maker. There was space for it and a proper duvet (they offer a fleece quilt). Overall experience is similar to b&b stay in the UK bar the change before completing the stay not necessarily a boutique hotel as understood in the UK (while there might ofc be cultural differencies to the US). If you are couple looking for privacy and comfort on a holiday, perhaps look elsewhere and definitely so if prone to allergies. If you are traveller from Europe, read also reviews outside hotels.com.
Super cute hotel and near many great restaurants and the City Lights Bookstore. A quick 15 min walk to downtown if you’re there for work. Stop for coffee across the street at Cafe Greco! The bed was very comfortable, the room and hotel was very clean, and the staff was warm and friendly. The hotel has many stairs so be ready to carry your luggage up a few flights of stairs, but once you get to your room it’s worth it! (The gentleman working when I checked-out also offered to help with my bags). Will definitely stay again when in town!
Best location, really cool hotel, excellent staff. Reasonably priced
Charming little hotel
Cute hotel with the charm of old San Francisco. The room was clean and quiet, mattress was comfortable, and the furnishings revive a memory of the old days in San Francisco but in a very pleasing way. Staff was very friendly and supportive. Hotel is located in little Italy, thus you immediately fall into a cafe or restaurant if you desire breakfast or dinner. Very nice stay overall.
Great service... quaint and clean. Loved stay. Had one of best nights sleep can remember...staff was incredible and love the glass of sherry each night!
The hotel was well located: in the North Beach area of San Francisco, home to such luminaries of the “Beat” generation as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. The hotel overall and my room were clean and the staff helpful and supportive. The only issue: I am a UK resident and was unable to make calls to my family in the U.K. either on the landline or my cell. This was a small frustration given the high standard overall of the hotel’s offering. I would recommend the
It is immaculately clean, in a great location, and the concierge is very pleasant.
The hotel is located in a wonderful neighborhood- close to the wharf and with great cafes and restaurants within easy walking distance. Our first room was a bit claustrophobic but the manager moved us to a larger room the next day. We loved the sherry in the evening and the feeling that you just might see one of the beats coming down the hall at any moment.
Mo's review
Nice quaint hotel close and central yo the North Beach, Little Italy and China Town. The room needs water conservation shower head. I felt like i drained a swimming pool when i took a showers. Windows do not have screens and with no a/c bugs come in the open windows. Nightly Sherry service from 5pm to 10pm.
Great location! Columbus is a busy street so there is some general city noise most all times.
This hotel was perfectly situated amongst great cafes and restaurants. It was walkable to Fisherman’s Wharf, Alcatraz tours, Coit Tower etc. We had a lovely welcome when we arrived and reception were really helpful when we asked about transport back to the airport. The rooms were really cosy, a good size and really clean. Our room was on the back of the hotel and it was incredibly quiet. We had a great stay and would definitely go again!
Superb location
Really great location and very good service. Rooms are very clean. No reakfast but various good breakfast facilities in the neigbourhood. The room towards the street are relatively noisy on Saturday night since the windows are not in the best shape but I guess this belongs to the “boheme” and “golden old times” atmosphere of the hotel.
Hidden gem - great unconventional choice
Unbelievably great location in the middle of North Beach. Cafe Trieste is 100 yards away for great string coffee, Golden Boy pizza is also 100 yards away, and good restaurants all around, especially Betty Lou’s for Mike’s Wok Crab dish. Hotel is very clean and quirky. Has period charm - not ultramodern but very well done. Absolutely will stay here again. No AC though - make sure your window opens
Not all rooms in this hotel are the same
The hotel was in a very nice area of S.F. Lots of cute shops and appealing restaurants. We had reserved 2 rooms in the same price bracket. The room in the front of the hotel was tiny and stuffy and very warm from the evening sun. The 2nd room was much larger and cooler.
Very quaint old hotel with a fabulous location within easy walking of parking garage, a multitude of restaurants and classic San Francisco sites.
Good time in the Italian District.
We've been here a couple of times, great location in the heart of Columbus street with all the food and restaurants and sites. Room was small and cozy, no A/C.
Great location, helpful front desk, very clean room
One of our very favorites of all time. Great neighborhood. North Beach, Chinatown, Financial district all within walking distance.
The best feature of this property is its location. Nice (the least number of homeless in the whole city) quaint North Beach neighborhood within walking distance (20 -30 minutes) to pretty much any attraction. If you need to get further, Uber or public transport is always right there. The property is an old restored building (very quaint), full of character and unfortunately the smell that comes with anything old:), not too bad though. It is super cute, very historic and very small. If you are looking for a roomy place, this is not it. The shower cabin was so small, I could not lather up my hair without hitting my elbows (and I am skinny). The rooms do not have either an air conditioner or a proper ceiling fan. There is a plug in one in the closet but I am not sure if it will help if it is hot. Thankfully, it is almost always chilly in SF. No safe in the room either. All that being said, I still loved it for the character, the great location and the overall charm.
Charming, perfectly suited for a single or couple. A bit worn, but not any worse than one would expect for its age. Small rooms, and basic services, but again, as expected for the age of the hotel. Great location.
Sherry is an excellent host eager to help guests with advice on restaurants and local activities.
"Bravo, Boheme!"
Very nice stay in a Italian area that was safe not to mention great food all around.

Location, location, location… close to everything! China town, Little Italy, north beach, nob hill- all within walking distance.
