Very pleasant experience, I would absolutely stay here again!
The hotel was appropriate for the price. The allegations regarding racism are false. They also checked my id when entering and the staff didn’t know me and I am white. It’s more like crime in SF is going through the roof since they decided not to prosecute theft below 700 USD anymore. Even Trader Joe’s and Ross has like four securities checking you when you enter the SF store. That’s probably also the reason for the high deposit. If you steal, they can just take it back. Cleanliness: OK, no bed bugs or so. Water from the tap was clean. Shower had a short brown flush whenever I used it. Coffee maker was provided, but it did not work. Low price, fair service. Nothing to complain about. Area is also rather safe.
This was perfect for what I wanted - fantastic location, incredible price, decent and clean rooms, felt very safe and overall very happy.
Wonderful stay felt very safe inside the hotel. This is probably the best cleaning service I have seen you can literally smell the detergent and softener of the sheets when you walk in and the smell of cleaning products which made me and my partner feel so safe getting into the bed. The staff was so kind and helpful. There was a convience store right next to the hotel which was convenient for water and other forgotten necessities. Would definitely come back wish more hotels were like this one!

Slow check in, broken elevator, wifi. Nothing good
Arrived and was told to wait in the lobby when there were clearly two people behind the counter doing nothing. Told them I was short of time so they checked me in with a lot of clear confusion between staff. Was put on the 6th floor and told the only elevator wasn't working. Climbed the endless stairs to find out the internet was also not working. The shower drain was clogged, the shower would only put out very hot or very cold water, the window from the shower to the cold outside would not close. The mattress was thin, hard and sagging. One of my worst stays at a hotel ever.
They weren't friendly people, but stay was only Ok. They didn't helped with the packing
The staff tried hard but upon arrival the room was cold, could not be heated up, the cable TV was out all over the building, the coffee pot did not work, I never had enough linens and I was not the only guest who had these issues. This is not the first time I have stayed but it will be the last.
Well-kept property, polite and helpful staff, and spacious room. The only real inconvenience was the lack of recharging outlets on one side of the bed. We'd stay here again.
We made another reservation, there was no parking nearby, the area felt very unsafe and we decided to miss the previous reservation. when we arrived at hotel Amari everything was easy and reliable I really recommend this place everything is clean the area is very safe and rooms are really quiet excellent to rest
Staff was rude
Small and cold
The room was very small and the radiator used to heat it did not turn on which made for a fairly cold night.
Sweet quaint, small clean conviniently located
Add $42.00 to park your car. No heating in the rooms. Add $35.00 for early check in (before 3pm). Smell of not fresh in the lobby. Location is all right. It seems they are doing renovations bit by bit. Rooms are ok. No breakfast.
The room was freezing!
Amazing hotel and excellent staff. Thank you so much.
Great staff great hotel
Excellent
The rooms are small but have everything you need for a quick stay.
Nice allegiant but rude service

This hotel is dirty, no air conditioner and no parking. They say parking is available but when we ask where we can park, they told us there was no parking and we have to pay for our own parking at the cost of almost 60.00 dollars a day. They told us they were out of vouchers and that they were going to have them available the day of our departure. The hotel was disgusting dirty, the three nights we stayed they never changed our bed sheets. They do not have air conditioner and they provide filthy fans. When I told the front desk to provide parking the person working there started to argue with me, I said that the information they provided on Expedia is misleading and that they would definitely get a bad review, the front desk person said that I was threatening them and that they can kick me out of the hotel because I said that! Bed sheets were not washed properly when we arrived, they stink really bad and there was other peoples hair on them. They do not provide hand soap either. The building stinks really bad. Long story short, I rented two rooms as there was two couples and the other room was filthy as well. I do not recommend staying at this hotel unless you don’t mind paying lots of money and staying in a filthy place.
It was a good stay.
Second time staying here. Clean towels, sheets and blanket, mattress and bedspread were in good condition. I wish the toilet was higher though.
Great Budget hotel, good to sleep and shower, best for people using public transportation as well. Can tell its an older building some small things lile shower door closing mechanism broken, but not a problem. Bed was clean, no bugs in hotel.
Suited my purposes but nothing really worth writing home about.
My review everything was great.
Historic hotel, comfortable but a few negatives.
This was a nice historic hotel. What I didn't like is that in addition to paying the hotel fees, they ask for a $250 refundable deposit upon check-in. I found this very off-putting. Also to get into the hotel entrance you have to be buzzed in. There was a time when the desk clerk had to leave the desk and many of us were buzzing trying to get in. We even called the hotel front desk, and the phone wasn't answered. They need to change this.
Centrally located within the city with public transportation close by. Room was a bit tight but the bed was super comfortable.
Great place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff. 24 hour front desk. Clean and cozy rooms with fire escape. No microwave in room, but there is a fridge and the lobby floor has a lounge with an ice machine and a soda vending machine. Lots of fantastic eating options near by and plenty of things to walk to and see and shop. Easy to order food via Doordash or Uber if you want to stay in or easy to get a ride if you want to go somewhere. I would stay there again.
Hotel Amari was an outstanding value in San Francisco. Hotel had an excellent location about two (uphill) blocks from Union Square or a half-mile walk from Powell and Market (BART and MUNI station). Lots of transportation options in all directions. The hotel was a little rough around the edges, but the room was clean, the bed comfortable, and it had a refrigerator. The staff was friendly and helpful and buzzed guests into the lobby which added to security. At night the area is quiet.
Really great spot. Close to everything.
No complaints
The area was super convenient! I have never experienced staff as rude or unaccommodating as I did at Hotel Amari. They charge your CC for a damage deposit but only accept certain American credit cards. While spending over an hour to figure out the situation we saw many other guests deal with the same inconvenience. Don’t assume your Canadian credit card will work here.
If you're just looking for a place to crash it's fine, it's a bit dated. No fan in the bathroom and the shower door kept opening during the shower. Staff was friendly. I thought the mattress would be an issue but woke up with no stiffness
I should come back
Todo es muy bueno en el hotel y el servicio, el unico detalle es el parqueo pero muy bueno caminando todo accesible
Halls are dark. Towels are dirty. Bathrooms are too small.
This place has small rooms. There is no ac. The staff is lovely and it seems to be very safe. About ten to twenty minute drives from major attractions. You only get two big towels per room so ladies you’ll have to ask for more out bring your own.
Very reasonably priced hotel.
Bad customer service
The room was okay but out dated. And the service was absolutely terrible . I had booked the room for one guest and when I showed up with my friend they told me she wasn’t allowed to come up. Even with an ID
The Hotel rooms are quaint and clean, the staff is very helpful with tourist information ! Didn't like that there wasn't any Coffee or Breakfast..
Arrived to hotel, no one at the counter. Rang 6 times. Our hotel room 210 was dirty! Had trash in the room, ran covered in dust and broken.
This is a small and lovely hotel. I really liked that our room was kept warm by a steam radiator, which, to my surprise, was very quiet while in action. A good mix of new and old. A complementary WiFi access and USB sockets - you may want to bring in your own charger for faster charging though.
Small area. Nice staff.
Good location and cheap. Read reviews prior to stay so expectations were low. No temperature control but I found the room comfortable. If you need a hair dryer you would have to ask at the front desk, I just brought my own. Mini fridge in the room was useful. Only time the door bell to enter the building was annoying was early in the morning when no one was manning the desk or phones, waited until another guest let me back in.
amari-stay
the hotel building is old but it is well maintained, clean and comfortable. That is all i wanted, to have a good night sleep.
.
was within walking distance to most places in the city - hotel was old & quaint, but clean
It's an unsafe area after dark.
Our room was not well tended to by the staff. We stayed for three days and two nights but the room was only cleaned once. We were gone most of the day and hung out the Please Clean sign on the door. Also, our refrigerator didn't work. And when I asked for a clean ice container, the front desk said they didn't have any. The room was fine and the location was nice. But it could have been nicer
great hotel in great lication
very helpful reception staff. arrived early for check in, was able to leave my bags in a secure area until check in. comfy bed powerful shower great location
Everything was Nice, clean , good service Quiet and very good location
The staff were friendly and helpful and the area seemed safe. It's close to a Walgreens and a cable car stop which was convenient. The only two issues I had were the walls were thin and it took about 5 minutes to get hot water in the shower depending on what time of the day. But those were minor issues that wouldn't prevent me from staying again.
Very basic but clean with a friendly, helpful staff. Good restaurants of varied price levels nearby.
Amazing for the price! Nice staff, clean rooms, a great stay!
Decent hotel experience overall; very clean punctual service
Worst hotel ever
Great option if you are on a budget.
Staff were friendly and efficient. We had a good nights sleep. The room was perfectly and comfortable, however some of the amenities in the bathroom looked like they had been in use for many years and that are in particular could do with a refresh. The sliding door in the bathroom was very difficult to close as there is no door handle to use, and no hair dryer was provided, both some like very inexpensive things to correct.
Nothing can be done about location as many homeless people, but everything else is good
Great location and parking avaliable
Phenomenal location in the heart of San Francisco attractions.
Feels like a Europe hotel. It’s a nice old property. Has minor issues, such as slow drains, small rooms, no AC but windows open for a nice fresh breeze. Elevator stuck open on. Overall a good value for the price.
One thing that bothers me yet is that they are not redunding the caution money which they took during the check in.
.
It was nice. Close to everything.
The building is too old and damage owner not take care about it. I arrived my bathroom and sink were dirty I had to called to clean up bed are old towel very old motel 6 is better than this hotel .. area very dangerous. For the price I paid not worthy at all sorry guys
I recently stayed at Hotel Amari and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. From the moment we checked in until we checked out, the staff was incredibly unfriendly and unwelcoming. It felt like we were inconveniencing them by checking in or with any interaction. I expected a more welcoming atmosphere and better value for the price paid. I hope the management takes these concerns seriously to improve the customer service experience for future guests.
I liked the helpful and friendly staff, who clearly worked hard to make the Hotel inviting, and safe for their guests. They did achieve this, in what is a very trying set of circumstances in the area near the Hotel.
The place had a weird smell. There is no A/C. It is an old place. The area is also sketchy, especially at night.
It was a spacious room. But, the lighting was a bit dim, so it's hard to tell if the room is clean but I'm going to assume it was. The neighborhood can be a bit sketchy but the hotel is in a pretty good location: close to Union Square and the Bart.
Location was good. Close to bus and metro stops. Fitness room had 3 cardio machines and was tiny. No dumbbells, stretching mats or towels. Room was small but all we needed. Quite noisy at night times with sirens and street noise.
Check in and out was very easy. Room was very clean. Hotel is located in a very good area. A lot of restaurants are nearby so you will have plenty of options. Area was nice and quiete. Staff was friendly
Convenient stay! Just needed a one night stay and this was perfect. Felt safe and good price and location.
Great
The toilet seat was broken, so if I had to use it, I was probably going to slip off with the seat. I informed the front staff and they indicated they were having their maintenance personnel fix it after my check out time the following day.
Easy parking
We absolutely love this hotel and will be back
We stayed for a couple nights before our cruise. The hotel is amazing and has so much character and history behind it. We spoke with the guy in the front desk and he said that his family acquired it in May 2023. The room was nice and quaint, beds were nice and comfortable and I loved the pillows as well. We absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. We walked a 20 min walk to pier 39 and had a great time there. Tiumalu family June 2024
Unsafe ans dirty area
Hotel is in a convenient location. Housekeeping is excellent. Only issue I had was room temperature. Freezing at night, and no thermostat in room to adjust temperature.
Staff was great and helpful. Close to dinning and transportation. Older hotel the only issue we had was the heater. We always had to tell the front desk to make sure it didn’t turn on and if it turned on we had to call to have it turned off.
It feels more like a youth hostel. The room was small, the bedding was thin and poor quality. I couldn't control the temperature and was freezing the entire night. The carpets are old, and although the room was tidy it was well-worn.
Horrible place.
Complete Incompetence
Service was horrible. Could not check into hotel due to a very large security deposit and they could not allow a 3rd party authorization to be completed because their system wasn't working. They then told Hotels.com it was on our end that we couldn't complete the deposit and therefore we couldn't cancel the room and receive a refund.
Room comfort was just alright
Good location. Good price. People working the desk are very friendly. Thank.
Dated room and small bathroom.
A bit of a rocky start getting checked in but the hotel was comfortable and the staff very friendly.
Excellent location. Lumpy mattress. Needs renovation.
No parking on site,I didn't read the website at time of reservation, according to front desk,it is mentioned No Parking at hotel must pay next door,40$ a day.One block south is disgusting,I guess that's "skid row" San Francisco style, watch the city ticket giver riding his lil mini car flashing his yellow lights, the room I got had glass windows in the bathroom so cold air came in all night long,I payed for 2 days, but only stayed for one,no compensation, try the Hilton better or motel 6
The only saving grace was it being in a walkable area. Old building with "centralized" heating. That means no temperature control in your room. My heater didn't work. Very rude staff. It was the worst place I have ever stayed. Would stay at Motel 6 before this place again. Do yourself a favor and pay a little more for a better hotel.
Not sure what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and helpful. Always felt safe. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting San Francisco.
The staff were always very helpful, I had to extend an extra night and they tried to get me near my original room. Rooms and bathrooms were large, beds and bedding very comfortable. Super close (10min walk) to the subway/BART system to get to/from the airport
Great location and nice staff
This was an incredibly cost effective way to stay in San Francisco, given the exorbitant prices the majority of hotels charge. Despite the hotel and rooms being quite dated and small, they were clean and the beds were quite comfortable. The check in was quick and the staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend if you are after no frills accomodation and wanting to save some money when travelling to San Francisco.
Beware once the cleaners clean your room the chemical smell is toxic. The cleaners do a good job but you do need to air out the room for a while. The hotel bar is under renovation. Staff are nice though.
The property was beautiful!!! Need to be clearer on parking

DO NOT BOOK
Avoid at all costs! This place is horrible. They don't advertise that you can not have guests. They also will not turn on the heat or air. When asked about it they gave me a time that they would turn it on and never did. I had to sleep in my big winter coat. They then refused to give me a refund even though I only stayed one of the four nights I paid for.
