Located in the center of Madrid near most of the tourist attractions, as well as good breakfast/dining optons

It is an old hostal, with a mini elevator, the bedroom is half occupied by an obsolete jacuzzi, it must to be eliminated in order to gain in comfort

Recomendable, el aspecto exterior da mala impresión, pero una vez llegue al segundo piso donde esta ubicado el hostal, es otra cosa. Me gustó el tamaño de la habitación y su balcón, excelente colchón y almohadas. Bien ubicado, policia en frente, farmacia abajo, y muchas opciones de restaurantes y supermercado.

Not too bad for the 2 nights stay. Close to everything and easy access to restaurant and shops.

Great location near Gran Via!

The property is across a police station, and sirens and other noises will go off into the wee hours of the night. I couldn't sleep that much :(

Centrally located

Great budget hotel located in the heart of Madrid. Receptionists are very friendly, reasonable price, across from police station, It has a kitchen and microwave &fridge are free to use. Hotel reception is on 2nd, grocery store and laundromat near by if you're a backpacker. 2 Metro stations within a 8-9 minutes walk

It’s in a very convenient place, that being said, make sure you are deaf because you can hear everything going outside your room, the shower it’s not made for claustrophobic people. I definitely wouldn’t go back, but it was very good located and very clean I must say!

This is a great place to stay. Great staff and with all the essentials for a city break. Within easy walking distance of many of Madrid’s major sights, shopping and dining. Would highly recommend.

The room I was given had no ventilation and a lot of black mold all over the bathroom. The smell permeated into the bed room. The air conditioning blew stale air that smelled rotten

I would stay again

For a hostel in the middle of it all in Madrid, it exceeded my expectations. My room was a little dated in its decor, including the halogen heat lamps used for general lighting (please change for LED bulbs). But, the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. Overall, the building was safe, secure and quiet with great and close access to public transit and very walkable to many tourist hotspot’s.

Poor, not worth half the price, but good location

Not clean enough: pieces of hair here and there, room was a bit worn down. Nice small bathroom, but awkward hypermodern shower system difficult to operate with too many handles! They could give a bit more soap. Room had an interior window only. Sound isolation was quite good, the bed was comfortable and wide enough. Friendly receptionist and friendly cleaning lady. Very nice. Within the accommodation facility you have to climb awkward narrow stairs. One wrong step and you can fall. This is uncomfortable with a large luggage. The photos show a much nicer image of the place. In reality it's a bit worn-down and not clean enough. This room was around 80 EUR, but is worth less than 40 EUR considering all aspects. Still, it was the best option for me due to the good location near the Callao metro station. If you really need a place to stay in the centre of Madrid and you can spend 80 EUR per night, it is for you. Compared to other similar hostals in the area, yes it is worth. Madrid is very expensive. But considering the value for money - it is not worth.

Adequate stay

Good location near all the shops, transportation and restaurants. Hotel not easy to find as sign not very visible and lots of hotels around. Shower very tiny and I had to squeeze through the shower door to get in and not enough spare to move in the shower. My room had a view of the walls of the other apartments.

Decent stay in center of Madrid

Great location right in the center of Madrid. We were able to drop off our luggage before check-in, which was great. The bedroom was spacious and clean. The only negative was our shower. The floor had wooden slats on it which looked very dirty. The floor of the shower underneath the wood was also very visibly dirty and the corners of the shower floor and wall tiles in the shower looked like they hadn’t been really properly cleaned in a while. The shower drain was clogged with other people’s hair upon our arrival. Even though we cleaned it out ourselves, the shower struggled to drain and we would shower in a giant puddle of water which then took 5-10 minutes to drain after finishing. For a 2 night stay, it sufficed as a resting place with excellent location.

Centrally located close to Callao metro station. Hostal in an older building on second floor. Friendly welcome, comfortable small room and bathroom.

Best Budget hotel

Great location with variety of dinner choices. Very close to Gran Via, shopping, dining and entertaining district. Small room but functional with very tight space showers. It’s kind of quiet.

Highly recommended

The location was really good (near metro and train station). -s: I found having an open bathroom a tad strange and there was only 1 charging spot (which you could only use by removing the table lamp). Tad tiny. +s: 24 hours reception with staff who spoke English - very unusual for Spain. In retrospect, I wish I had booked all my nights here. Clean room (far better than most hostels), hair dryer and an excellent shower. Refrigerator and good kitchen. Friendly, helpful staff (who unlike at other hostels could provide all the information in English). Excellent location right by the Callou metro stop, one stop from Sol train station and super easy to find (without going through many winding streets which is important when you are a tourist and arriving at odd hours.) Bars, restaurants are around, and close to the Madrid Flamenco Theater. Opposite the police station and so, safe too. After staying here and at other Lonely Planet reviewed hotels in Madrid, I would rate this far higher than the LP reviewed ones.

Surprisingly great

The room was better than expected: very clean, spacious enough and uncramped (basic single room), the shower was really nice and modern, the air conditioning was very effective and controllable, and the en-suite being semi-open was fine. It turned out to be better than I thought it might be based on the pictures I’d seen (perhaps they weren’t the best pictures). Couldn’t have expected more for the price. Location great. Staff very friendly and willing to help with where to go in Madrid. I really would stay again.

Ok for a short stay

The place was very small unclean and functional. Good for a very short stay. It was well located near Madrid's center, shopping and entertainment

This is a great little hotel in a very central and convenient location. The entrance is very unassuming but once you’re inside, the hotel is clean and welcoming. Rooms are on the small side but have all the basic conveniences. The staff was especially helpful and friendly, letting us check in early when we arrived exhausted from a long flight. Overall, a nice, basic small hotel in an excellent location, walking distance from cafes and attractions.

Not too bad considering the price

The room was a good size and the air con was very quiet. Staff were very friendly. The balcony had an air con unit on it which took up almost the entire balcony. There was building work on the ground floor so noise in the mornings and lots of bags of what I think was plaster at the entrance making it very dusty as well.

Very helpful staff and great location

Staff was super helpful and organized, location is very good as one doesn't get the noise from the Gran Via but it is seconds away from it. On arrival there is doorbell marked with the hotel name on the right of the door, but once checked in, the keys then allow access through all the doors. Walking distance (few minutes) to Gran Via and Santo Domingo metro stations, so it is easy to connect with several underground lines. Many cafes around it, and of course Gran Via shopping is couple of minutes down a side-street.

Convenient location, quiet rooms

Set conveniently in Malasana neighborhood near hundreds of restaurants and cafes. The rooms are small and a somewhat dark ---but very clean and an ok price. Room was quiet at night and staff friendly. There is a small elevator. Coffee and snack machine in the lobby.

Great location!

This hotel is in a great location! A very short walk from the nearest metro station, close enough to all the main sights yet not on the Main Street so it's quite at night and you can actually get some sleep! It's situated in a little square with a small bar in the middle. The room was small yet had everything we needed. It was spotlessly clean! Baba on reception was so welcoming and knowledgable about the area! Thanks guys for a enjoyable stay. I will stay here again!

Clean, comfortable and centrally located

Clean, comfortable accommodation right in the centre of Madrid and close to the metro. The staff were very helpful.

Some problems with the AC but other things were very good. Reception desk is helpful and nice. The room is a bit small but it is totally fine with me and my husband as we are Asian size ;) The room is tidy, clean and decent. Love it!

Central yet quiet, very clean and nice design

The hostel is located in a well preserved building. The rooms themselves are a bit small but really well organized and designed! The room had an air-condition, which for me is a must! When I arrived I had a small misunderstanding with my reservation, and the guy at the reception decided to take a total responsibility and change the room with no extra charge! THANKS :)

Nice Hostal

Stayed in many hostals in Madrid over the years and thsi one rates as one of the best. Nicely renovated, clean, comfortable, excellent location and extremely nice friendly helpful staff. I would highly recommend it. Oh, and great location

We stayed 4 wonderful nights in the Hostal Santo Domingo and enjoyed it very much: friendly, welcoming and helpful staff; spotless, very nice and quiet (except Saturday night) room; fantastic location and a good price. There are computers for visitors in the hall way or free WiFi in the room if you have your own laptop. We enjoyed visiting Madrid very much and Hostal Santo Domingo added to it! We will be back in Madrid and we plan to stay in the same hostal! Thank you very much!

Simple, clean and central

This hotel is somewhere between a hostel and a hotel in style, but provides just what you need for a budget holiday. It is clean, simple and reasonably priced. I recommend this hotel to young people who do not intend on spending much time at the hotel, but out and about in Madrid as the comfort is not that high. The staff is exceptionally nice and always ready to help!

Hostal Santo Domingo is a hostal not a hotel

Overall, a quaint, clean and friendly place - owner personable, small but very clean room and bathroom - more like a pension (France and Germany) - not a hotel, but a hostal (advertising slightly misleading) - no breakfast or any other services. Price-service relationship probably okay. Neighborhood not great, or at least you have to know where to walk and where not, close to streets with "ladies of the night." Would not recommend it to upper-middle or upper-class friends. But less demanding travelers might like it. Kinda funky! The best aspect is the personable owner. One more word of caution: it is easily confused with the Hotel Santo Domingo (Mercure), an upper-middle hotel with a very good restaurant across the Gran Via.

A hidden surprise

Santo Domingo is set in a square just north of Gran Via on the second and third floors of an old building and reached through a somewhat anonymous door and then either by a grand old staircase or a lift. Inside the place is transformed into a swish stylish hotel with just about the friendliest staff and owner you could expect to meet anywhere. Our stay was delightful and the location excellent with even the slightly scruffy square outside transforming into a social centre for the local community in the early evening.

The service was excellent. The staff were very helpful and corteous and spoke english well. Although the room was small (we stayed in a superior room), the interior design was very modern, the room and bathroom were very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The location of the hostal was perfect if you don't mind walking. The main plazas such as Plaza Mayor and Puerto del Sol were only 5-10 minutes away. It only took us approximately 30 min. of walking to get to the museums and the palace. There were a lot of restaurants and bars nearby. It was quiet and safe. I would recommend this hostal to anyone.

Great place for the price

The place is comfortable, the size of the rooms is medium not to big not to small, everything is clean and the bed in confortable. The shower is a plus, has different modes and the water pressure is high. The location is right next to gran via, and it’s a safe street .

Cómodo y limpio

El alojamiento esta ubicado a pocas cuadras del centro histórico, pero tambien de la estacion de tren, lo que hace que la zona no sea tan segura. Tuvimos un incidente ajeno al alojamiento y el personal ha sido muy amable y se puso a disposicion rapidamente. Mas alla de eso, las habitaciones son muy amplias y cómodas.

El Hostal Santo Domingo está situado a pocos metros del centro. Muy buen trato del personal y perfectamente atendidos. Sin duda ideal para pasar unos días de vacaciones.

Lugar ótimo e econômico. Atendimento muito bom e local bem limpo. A fachada é um pouco difícil de achar porque o prédio não é todo deles, mas é só interfonar que rapidamente você consegue entrar, super recomendo e ficaria lá de novo!

Séjour de 3 nuits à Gran Via

Zimmer schlecht gedämmt, sehr laut - man hört alles im Haus (Personen im Flur, Wasserleitungen, etc.). Einzelzimmer mit Bad ist in Wirklichkwit Toilette & Dische direkt im Raum. Das wurde vorher über Expedia nicht transparent kommuniziert. Die Lage ist hingegen sehr gut und die Mitarbeiter sehr freundlich. Das Zimmer war sauber.

Está muy bien situado y el personal es muy amable, la limpieza también es muy buena. Lo recomiendo y seguro que repetiremos.

Muy recomendable, por situación, muy céntrico, por las habitaciones, muy limpias, la cama muy cómoda, sobretodo me encantó, que tenían almohadas viscolasticas,y buen colchon, habitación amplia, el baño chiquito, pero con una buena ducha, una pega( pequeña) qué el lavabo está en la habitación, pero es comprensible por el tamaño del baño. La entrada al edificio puede llevar a engaño, porque ds antiguo, pero el hostal es moderno y bien equipado, y por último destacar la amabilidad de los chicos de recepción.

Fin de semana de turismo

A pesar de estar en obras el hostal la Habitación tenía lo imprescindible y muy limpio. La ubicación inmejorable. Sin duda os volveríamos a hospedar en este hostal. El personal muy amable!

Pesimo

No nos dieron la habitación solicitada que previo al check in envié un correo para saberlo. Estaba bastante sucio y el baño dejaba bastante que desear. Tengo fotos. No se de dónde sacaron la valoración que supuestamente tiene, para nada esa nota. Es una pena que no me deja subir las fotos.

Posizione centralissima, veramente a due passi da Plaza Major, palazzo reale, ma anche Museo del Prado, il parco De El Retiro e tanti altri…per chi ama camminare può vedere tanta Madrid praticamente senza prendere mezzi per gli spostamenti. Personale della hall simpatico, gentilissimo e sempre attento ad ogni richiesta. Bagno ricavato nella stanza, quindi un pochino piccolo ma comunque dotato di ogni confort. Da consigliare.

Il personale molto cordiale e gentile, l'hotel e'in una posizione molto comoda, nella via dietro, parallela, alla gran via. La stanza era piccolissima ma pulita.

Cerca de Gran via. Limpia y buen precio.Además se encuentra en frente de la policia local cosa que a mi personalmente me dió tranquilidad al viajar sola. El unico inconveniente de mi habitacion es, que la ducha goteba y era un poco molesto para dormir...tuve que poner una toalla para que empapara y solucionado. A partir de las 23:30 y hasta las 7:00 no hay nadie en recepción XD

La ubicación. Había mucho olor a cañerías.
