i like the fact that it was close to el malecon and colonial zone. staff was frienly and helpful
This hostal is very outdated; it has no elevator so I had to climb several flights of stairs. Checking in, the reception employee said that someone in charge of reservations didn't do an arrangement, but he gave me the key to my room, which had two beds with stained sheets. I noticed that the air conditioning was not working properly because it only had hot air coming out of it, so I reported this, and was told that they would call a technician, who showed up and did something on the roof to fix it. Although breakfast is advertised, only a piece of bread and some coffee or juice is offered and nothing else. A couple of days into my stay, there was no hot water in the shower, so I had to report this too. The next day I followed up and was told the problem was in the whole building and it had been fixed. Later that day I started noticing that water had been dripping from the AC onto the bed and onto the floor. The reception employee only recommended that I should turn off the AC because it was frozen. I went out for several hours and left it off, so returning I turned it on, but it dripped again. This other time the staff gave me the key of the room next door to mine to sleep for the night. The next day I returned to my room since the tech fixed the AC issue. Several power outages happened and one night the walls vibrated due to a very noisy power generator they had. If you have some money to spare, book at a another hotel with more modern, functional and comfortable features.
The room are to small and the morning breakfast is only coffee and bread
Not luxurious by any means, but you get what you pay for. Cheap room with minimal amenities. Felt safe. Room was cleaned each day. Walking distance to colonial zone and oceanfront.
Better options at this price
I almost hate to complain at the price I paid for this, but I found out the price I paid is pretty standard for hotels in the area. Our room was a double but was pretty small, like our beds formed a 'L' shape and we were like 3 ft from each other. The AC was above one bed and dripped on the bed. The room had been cleaned, but there was like gum or something stuck on the bathroom floor no one had ever scraped up. The shower was decent, good pressure and had hot water, but the shower head was not the greatest. The room opens up into a commons area where other guests rooms are. This was a problem when some other guests took up that area to do some large-scale project and they were loud and worked late into the night. The front desk crew were sometimes not helpful (the dude still owes me 45 pesos in change....) but overall I felt they were friendly if you were friendly to them. The WiFi did not reach my room so I had to come up to the window in the commons area to get a signal. Overall, I'd pick a different place next time simply because there's better options at this price, but not necessarily because it was a horrible place.
It was ok
Friendly enough people but unorganized and the room was not very cleaned. We were supposed to have two queen beds but ended up with a queen and a single.
Did NOT like it
Staff 90% Haitian. DR labor laws require 80% Dominicans, 20% aliens Roaches Shower broken door Dirty sink Non working room phone
Economy lodging ~ good for a few days
I needed 2 bedrooms for 3 nights at an economical price. I had never been to this place but gave it a try based upon others recommendations. It met the basic needs I had without any undue surprises.
beware of overcharging
The room was ok for the price, nothing special 2 queen beds & a twin. A small flat screen TV, WIFI,& a small fridge. The bathroom was very small, but the AC worked well & the beds were clean. The main problem was I had prepayed on line & was charged again at checkin. That was 3 days ago, & we are still getting the run around over the refund, or cancelation on my credit card. They seem very nice at the desk, but don't appear to be competent with the credit return.
