Host was very helpful and pleasant.
Ok property
Great place to stay. The people at this hotel are amazing. They do everything to make you feel good. I highly recommend it
Machu Picchu trip
Great stop before Machu Picchu. Great location. Near train station and bus station.
Property is very conveniently located for visiting Machu Picchu. Nice view of the river from the room. Lots of insects were able to get in the room in the evening despite the windows being closed. Staff was very friendly & helpful. I received a bag of snacks to take since I left early for MP
Excelente Ubicación
Highly recommended hostel.
It was a perfect stay just as advertised. The hostel is right on the platform, so get off the train straight into the hostel. It's a hostel, so it has all the basic needs and is very clean. The service is excellent, with the owner very accommodating. Their breakfast was great. They let us eat longer since we had two young kids with us, and they slept in late. They held luggage for us for after checkout too. Great stay overall.
Best Hostel in Aguas Calientes
I stayed in this hostel one night. The staff was very friendly and helpful. My room had the best view of The Urumba river. The only call out is that the pillows were not the most comfortable, but it’s a hostel so don’t expect a 5 star hotel. It was very clean and walking distance to Peru rial, the bus to Machu Picchu & numerous restaurants. I wouldn’t recommend to anyone who is saying short term to visit Machu Picchu
Good budget option in an amazing little town
Good spot in the central part of town near bus station for Machu Picchu and train station. Very friendly staff.
Ideal for a short trip
Very friendly people and reasonably good rooms.
Incredible Riverside Room
Really enjoyed our room by the river. Wonderful river noise all night long.
Nice hostel. The staff is very friendly. Nice view to the river and nearby to train station.
God price / value. Staff accommodating. Breakfast very good.
Great property for price and the location. Beds very comforttable.
This hotel is conveniently located on the main street in AC; a great location for catching the early bus up to Machu Picchu and exploring the city. The hot water was temperamental but somewhat to be expected in such a remote location. The hotel staff was the highlight of this location. The woman who helped us check in gave us the great news that a bus ticket office was still open past 9PM which meant we were able to buy our bus ticket up the mountain the night before. She packed us breakfast the following morning (4am departure) and let us keep our stuff at the hotel while we explored the city after our Machu Picchu visit. If you're looking for a simple, affordable and convenient spot to stay in AC, look no further!
Very easy access to Machu Picchu. Staff are friendly and kind. Very close to train station and bus station.
Close to train
Gal at the didn’t speak English, but we were able to get but with Goggle Translator. She gave me an umbrella to use the morning I went to Machu Picchu as it was raining. She also packed me a bag breakfast for my early morning. Nice room with view of the river. Great location and easy to find from the train station. Friendly staff.
Very Convenient, closed to everything. And stuuning River view from the room. Friendly staff.
They met us right off the train station and walked us in, the lady at the front desk was extremely helpful and walked us through exactly what we needed to get our bus ticket to macchu picchu. She packed us a lunch/breakfast the next before and sent us off to the climb. The actual property is right next to the river which makes for an extremely relaxing stay. It is also close to great restaurants and a shopping market.
Nice and pleasant
The hostess/owner was very pleasant and helpful. The place was simple and nice. Breakfasts were good, served by the hostess. FYI, the hostess insist on accepting US dollar in CASH ONLY.
Great place for a great price
A stone's throw away from the train station, but not noisy. Our room had a spectacular view of the river. The staff were very friendly and informative about the bus trip to Machu Picchu. Plenty of hot water, comfortable beds, and a nice breakfast (bread, local cheese, fruit, tea, coffee).
The river view and sound of water running was very soothing, overall great experience, staff were very helpful.
The hostel is located right on the railway station so very convenient with a lot of dining options around. Very basic hotel, I guess not bad for the price given its in Aguas Calientes where everything is expensive compared to the rest of the country. If you are looking for 2 star upwards by western standards, look elsewhere. Also, they have a ridiculously early checkout time of 9AM. However, the front desk lady was very nice and was able to accomodate for a shower after I came back from Machu Picchu at around 3pm.
The hostal located beside the railway . Have comfortable bed and hot shower. These are the things I need. The owner doesn’t know any English but she is very helpful and prepared the breakfast for us to go when we early check out.
Exactly what we wanted/expected. A small hostel right in the center of everything. Loved looking out our bedroom window, over the river, to the cliffs on the other side. Aguas Calinetes is a cool little town .... think ski resort village .... but done in Peruvian .... and with Machu Picchu rather than ski slopes :-)
We enjoyed our one night stay in this hostel. The location and view of river from the window are great.Rooms are tiny, but covering all basic needs. Good breakfast and coffee. They serve the best coffee, coca tea, delicious local bread, chees, butter, jam, and bananas.
Good value for price. Basic breakfast. Good location
La Payacha
The staff was not super friendly. Had to ask them twice to turn on hot water so we could shower. Awesome view of river & super close to great restaurants.
Good for the price
Our room at Hostal La Payacha was good for the price. They spoke very little English, but were very accommodating to our needs. The room was clean and right across from the train station. No hot water (or like Cusco limited hours for hot water and we didn't know what they were).A lot of restaurants and shops nearby as well as the place to catch the bus to Machu Picchu was close by. It worked well for us for a one night stay.
Not bad, but can be very noisy
Given it’s price, you get yhe value for your money. It has hot water and average bed. It’s next to the train rail, literally, so it’s quite noisy until late evening. The staff is nice, though. They prepared simple breakfast for me so that I can trek to Machu Picchu in early morning.
Excellent location, service and stay!!
Excellent location, great customer service, close to everything. Great view!!
Close to everything
Nice spot. Great room for the price. Close to everything.
The hotel is not elegant is more rustic, but has all that you need. It is clean, has hot water, wi fi, tv and breakfast. It is very confortable, and the people from the hotel were very kind.
Staff speaks no English, but are accommodating except one word issue with laundry. Rooms can be damp during reading season. Internet is terrible. Still, great location and views. Adequate for Budget travel.
The only issue is no heat in the room but none of the hostels have heat. The owner was nice enough to pack a quick breakfast at 5am for us to meet our train
Great location and good service!
It was a great stay. the hotel has a unique position on the waters of a wild river at the bottom of the sacred mountain. It is nest to very good restaurants, markets and craft shops. Good service and people always available to help!
Family hostel, very friendly & helpful. River view
Very clean, friendly, helpful hostel. 2 blocks to main square, by train tracks & on river. We loved it, would stay here again. Very easy. When we missed our train, the mom went to the train station to discuss & help with our re-ticketibg. Very sweet.
A n excellent cup of coffee
To share time with the staff of this hostal was warming.
Was allright
Stafff was great, room was very clean and was a great location for getting to the bus station for Machu Picchu. The food next door at the resterant Full House is really good. The place needs some matenence on the water faucets and electrical plugs.
Nice Hostal stopover for Machupicchu
Hotel was consistent with the online reviews and met our expectations. Clean and hospitable. I really liked the rushing river alongside the hotel right outside our window. Staff was friendly. English is not strong, so some Spanish speaking would be helpful. We had to depart very early for the train to Machupicchu and the manager made us some very nice breakfast boxes to go which were tasty and very nice touch. For those looking for a decent value, this is a good economical, middle of the road Hostal.
Nice hotel and nice staff.
Staff was very nice but at night it was cold. Hot water was fine but incosistent. The view was nice since we could see the river but it got too cold at night. The staff gave us a heater to use, and she was very nice. Overall, it was a nice stay. It was close to the bus station to Machu Pichu. The hotel let us leave our bagagges while we went to Machu Picchu. The staff let us rest in the lobby while we were waiting to go to the train station. At night the train sound was a little loud.
Good stay
Staff members are super friendly, convenient to walk to everything in town, and they're very helpful with information. The only thing we didn't like is that they would reorganize and rearrange our personal items in our room every day.
Very nice hostel
Very nice hostel with a great location and easy access to shopping, train station and bus. The hostess was very helpful and kind. We were leaving very early the next morning and since we wouldn't be there for breakfast she made us a sack breakfast to take on the train. Definitely would recommend.
Very nice stay and staff. Close to everything.
Very nice stay and staff. Close to everything. We got a room facing the river and away from the railroad tracks which was a godsend. Wifi was spotty and shower water temperature wasn't the best but all in all a great experience to spend the night at the bottom of Machu Pichu. Highly recommend.
Great spot to stay at Machu Picchu
This is a no-frills property but it was amazing. Located in a quiet area of the tourist town at the base of Machu Picchu with an incredible view of the river. Staff very helpful. Room very clean and comfortable. Perfect for the one night needed to make the climb in the morning.
Amazing view
The view of my room was amazing! We got to face the mountain view and watch the river flow. Location was perfect. Breakfast was sumptuous too. Would visit this place again if I ever visit machu piccu again.
Sleep on a budget
Cool view from the bedroom but that was about it. You get what you pay for.
disappointed..no wifi in the room. the front desk staffs cannot speak or understand English. Worst is the bathroom...window panes missing and broken windows.
for one night is okay but watch out the room side
we didn't like this hotel. mainly because the smell and because the noises. the reason could be that the hotel is not in good conditions, is kind of old. the floor makes noise, the curtains in the bathroom felt down, the bed wasn't bad but not to comfortable neither, the bed cloths keep loosing. and they don't have windows well prepare for mosquitos! (there are many mosquitos in this city) although has a perfect location (the city is no big though). the stuff is friendly and they prepared us a snack for our early leaving (because we went ahead to the bus line to go up to machu picchu at 5am), this was very sweet of the reception's girl. OWWW the most important, our bedroom was side window with the train track, so we could sleep, every time the train passed by, we jumped. MY SUGGESTION, if you are going to stay just one night, is value BUT ask for a room with windows to the river side, opposite to the train!
Good staff Old Hotel
Not idle for more than a night sleep regardless of yohr student budget.
right next to the river
you probably need to know at least basic spanish to stay here, as the girl at the front desk did not understand english but if you do it's a nice place to spend the night. it had free wifi and was literally right next to the river, so falling asleep to the sound of rushing water was nice. we did tell her though that we were leaving for machu picchu at around 4:30am and she said she would have something for us to eat prepared at that time. we came down that morning only to find the door locked and no one at the front desk. in fact, all the lights were off. thankfully, the padlock on the door was not closed or we would have had to break the window to get out (like we're going to let a locked door keep us from our only chance of seeing machu picchu), but we had no choice but to leave the place wide open when we left as there was no way for us to lock the door
Nice location, close to train station and bus station. Wifi pretty good.
would not recommend this hotel
no hot water, the room as well as the public areas were very unclean... Staff was friendly but lack of understanding which in my opinion wasn't only the language barrier as I speak quite good Spanish... also the river flowing right behind the window is extremely loud and windows extremely thin...
Oh, the river directly below your window is loud.
This is a hotel that is actually a 1 masquerading as a 3. My room had a raging river out side the window. Great for $40 US. It is a back packers hotel trying to save you bucks. It is at the bottom of the list but I would stay here again. The help really ties but is not english speaking.
Never again
This hostel is running by a lady that does not know how to deal with costumer service "unfortunately" I asked for a cup of hot water and they were trying to charge me $3 soles for it , and even tho' we left our stuff in the hostel till the afternoon looked like she wasn't happy about it ,Idk think if you guys could avoid this incidents GO elsewhere , do you homework and book ahead of time , Aguas Calientes has lots of options it all depends of the BUDGET.
Great room with a great view overlooking the river and mountains. Magical.
Ok for a night
Location not great and bed.
Great little hostel on the river
Staff was very helpful, showing us where to go and things in the area. It's more a hostel than a hotel. Rooms are small shower has trouble keeping up with hot water. But Aguascalientes is a remote small town so unless you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars for a Hilton style room this place is great. It's right on the train tracks and our room had a beautiful view of the river. It's half a block from where you catch the bus to Machu Picchu. We told the staff that we would be up too early for breakfast and they made us sack lunches to go. I would defenetly recommend this hotel for the backpacker to Machu Picchu. They also will store your luggage if you're checking out the day you visit Machu Picchu
Terrible mosquitoes invasion
We arrived to this hostel (it is not by any means a 3 star hotel.) We arrived at night and the room was filled with insects and mosquitoes. It is right by the river and the windows were kept open during the day so the room was a disaster. People were nice, that was it. Not good for the price.
Good for a short stay visiting Machu Picchu
The hostel was good for my short stay. I chose it because it is really close to the train stop (but far enough to not here the trains so loud), next to the river (pick this view if you can), and the young ladies running it were friendly. It is your typical hostel: good enough to rest and spend a couple nights or more here, spacious, and clean enough. The ladies spoke little English but they were nice enough to try to understand me and answer my questions the best they can in Spanish. They packed me paper bag breakfast for my early morning trek to the ruins. Overall, I was content staying here.
The hotel was clean and comfortable. I slept well because our room was right on the river. The only thing I would say to be careful of is they tried to charge me for the hotel twice. Luckily I kept my receipt. They insisted I did not pay until I showed the receipt. Just watch that if they charge you prior to your stay. They might try and get you to pay when you check out.
Fine for short night before day at Machu Picchu
My niece and I stayed at the hostel on 26 June 2015, the night before our visit to Machu Picchu. We were only in our room for a few hours to sleep, so small room size was ok.
Expensive, but very average hostel
Clean and spacious rooms. Quite at night. If you have to wake up early to get the 1st bus to Machu Picchu, they provide you with take-away breakfast. Otherwise, I have two issues. First, when I got back to the hostel after Machu Picchu Mountain hike and would like to take shower there was no water at all. The woman at the reception said there was no water in the whole Aguas Callientas and she couldn't do anything. However, she came back in 2mins and suggested to take shower in another room. Very strange. The second problem was the bill. It has to be around 280 soles (for 2 nights), but I've been charged 340 soles. Not sure if it's my bank problems, but be aware if you pay by card.
Very pleasant experience. Would reccommend.
The service was amazing. We booked this hostel after a terrible encounter with our previous nights stay at Hatu Inti, which was just a little ways down the road. We had breakfast made for us and a nice knock on the door letting us know when it was ready.
Overall good, but no hot water depending time of day.
NO HOT SHOWER!!!
Great view of the water streaming down No hot shower, had to run to other room in towel wrap to take shower. Walking distance to all; breakfast-to-go was true; staffs helpful but no English..
riverside
Perfect location, near everything in town. Right on the river... besutiful...room was clean...service,perfect..would stay again..
Good Hotel and Good Price
I considerer an excellent hotel, if you compare it with the price you pay. It really over my spectates. The view to the river was amazing. I hope you are lucky enough to get one with this view. It's a breath taken.
Nice!
Very good hostel, convenient, close to everything, staff helpful.
Great river view, although the river is noisy. Short 100 m walk to bus and train
We enjoyed our stay here. great view of the river. close to the rail road station.
Great hospitality
Our room overlooked the river and the sound is quite something, but with the windows closed it was fine. We were leaving early the next morning to get up to Machu Picchu and would miss breakfast, to our surprise we had a packed breakfast waiting for us at 5am.
Cozy hostel conveniently located
This hostel is conveniently located near the train station and the bus company that takes you to Machu Picchu. Staff was very accommodating and breakfast is provided. Close
Visit to Machu Picchu
We arrived early and they were very accommodating. They even allowed us to check in early and have breakfast because we were going to miss a breakfast.
Very Satisfied.
Fine overall. One night stay to get to Machupichu by bus - the only way. The location is across the train tracks (no noise or trains at night)- very close to the bus terminal and the center of town, next to one of 2 rivers. Really picturesque - nice.
Lovely hotel
Welcoming staff. Lovely room (good white noise to sleep to with river outside). AMAZING breakfast with good eggs & coffee.
Comfortable and Caring
The place is very clean, with a conscientious and caring staff. They could do with better water pressure but that is a problem for many hotels in the area.
Great location
Next to the train station. Great!. Very helpful staff! However, the hot water is not stable.
Great view
The view from our room window was beautiful, the loud river didn't bother us at all. The room was tiny, but very pleasant. Overall OK hotel for one night before setting off for Machu Picchu. You can leave your luggage with the hostel and pick it up on your way back.
A place to spend the night in Aguas Calientes
Nothing special here, fine if you're just looking to spend the night before going to Machu Picchu the following morning.
Ok for 1 night
The staff was very nice and accommodating. They packed us a "to-go" breakfast as we headed out at 5AM to make our way to Machu Picchu and kept our bags safe until our return that afternoon. If you are looking for a clean bed to sleep in for one night, then this is ok. It sits right between the river and the train tracks-just thought I would mention for light sleepers.
Excellent for the value
Extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and well mannered staff. Very accommodating, was able to check in as soon as I got there, left luggage with them for the entire day after checking out. Room was unique, large, clean and with an excellent view of the Urubamba River.
Low quality
Nice breakfast... Low quality hotel. No good hotel, it is like a house made a hotel.
centrally located!!
the people try very hard to accommodate our needs. limited services, basically no wi-fi access (intermittent), shower also intermittent hot/cold other than that it is next to the train line and the Urubamba river the view of the river is just spectacular
Overpriced, cramped, dirty
This hotel is definitely has seen better days. It appears that the maintenance has been sorely lacking. Rooms are very cramped and do not appear to have been cleaned. There is a smell of mold in the room and its really strong in the bathroom. Certainly not worth the price.
Convent and affordable
The hostel was clean and convenient to town. It is located on the river, so extremely noisy, so take ear plugs. They tried raising the nightly rate until I showed them my booking reservation. Also, they wouldn't let us pay with visa and only in Soles, which also increased the rate, especially since they gave us a very low conversion rate. Check-out soured us on our stay since we felt ripped off.
Location is close to the bus stop and train statio
not many electricity outlet if you need quiet place, this may not suit you because of the sound from waterfall outside will be a bit loud
Atendimento muito cordial. Recomendo.

Irma was the best!!! Since my wife and I got there she made us feel so comfortable. It's not a 5 star hotel but the attention to ensure that you're comfortable beats any 5 star hotel. We visited in late October so did not experience the mosquitos from other reviews. What we did experience was the view and the sound of the water flowing in the river. Some people pay to have this sound when falling asleep. The breakfast, the coffee, the assistance on where to go eat, the convenience, even giving us a poncho in case it rain during our Machu Pichu adventure and if we didn't need it just bring it back (no charge). These all made the staying at La Payacha and incredible experience. Thanks again Irma.
