well located near Sol and Plaza Mejor. Completely satisfactory at a bargain price.

Great Tourist Place

This place is central to everything. Only 1 block from the main SOL metro station and 1 block from Plaza Major. I liked it so much I booked it for another trip next week already!

Excellent location

Small rooms, very basic but it does the job. Close to everything. Attentive staff was a big plus. Would recommend.

The rooms (at least for 3 people) are extremely small, with almost no room for 3 people's luggage, the bathrooms are extremely small and nothing like the photos posted on Expedia. If you have a rental car, I recommend careful coordination for parking. We didn't get one, nor did we get the hotel to help us with the issue of our car's license plate when driving through the center of Madrid, which has limitations and many hotels put it in the city system to exempt payment of the pollution tax. This hostel doesn't help with this issue either.

Quiet and close to everything of interest in the center of Madrid. Lots of restaurants, bars and shopping places.

Excellent location.

My recent three-night stay in this apartment was a complete disaster. The most immediate issue was the state of the towels. Despite repeated promises from the management to replace them, the towels remained musty and unhygienic throughout my stay. This basic level of cleanliness was simply unacceptable. The couch, intended for relaxation, was incredibly hard and uncomfortable, making it difficult to unwind after a long day. The check-in process was complicated and frustrating. Navigating through a hallway infested with rats was a truly horrifying experience. The room itself was disappointingly small, offering little space to move around. The bathroom, in particular, was cramped, dirty, and wholly inadequate. I would strongly advise anyone considering this property to reconsider and seek alternative accommodations.

Madrid Room

My stay was very good, check in and check out very convenience and room was clean and met expectations. The only comments was bed was short for 6'5" person and the bathroom cabinet door was broken as well as tissue fixture. Other than those items, was a good experience.

Great value, clean, safe, good location

My stay was just for two nights so I could catch my flight back to the US. The Hostal Castilla II was perfect for that. It was clean, quiet, and easy to locate. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again even if it was to visit Madrid as a vacation.

A walking distance to Plaza Mayor . Plaza del sol. Gran via and all shopping areas. Safe area.

We really enjoyed this location near the Plaza Mayor with so many dining and tourist activities available nearby. The building was originally an old fire house and has a bunch of different sized rooms. Our room had a double bed a small balcony/window and a small bathroom with shower. The shower and hot water all worked great. The room was cleaned each day and they had a hot water pot with some instant coffee and tea in each room. Great price for a small, clean room in a very expensive area of Madrid.

My only complaint was noise from bar patrons who hung out on benches below the property on the weekend.

Muy buenos todos en el hotel

The beds were hard as a rock. When going to our room, we had to walk through a cleaning supply room. The walls were so thin we could hear the conversation of the people in the next room. Not the place for a 60-year-old woman who Is used to hotels with amenities and comfort.

Amazing week in Madrid

Amazing stay. The hostel is very central to the place if interest Walking distance to almost every tourist attractions Metro Sol 5 minutes metro Grand via 10 minutes. i walk almost every where…or else I took the metro. I fell very safe.people are very friendly and they go off there ways to help you. Went to the flamenco show. The corrida ,the opera Prado,royal palace prado museum Retiro gardens etc… As you can see a very busy schedule… Plaza Mayor and plaza del Sol are not even 5 minutes The hostel is on a busy street a little noisy but if you close the windows an the (volets) you don’t ear anything. I was travelling alone and I felt very safe in the environment of Hostel Castillo.

Very clean all the and you can walk to San Miguel Narket and puerta de el Sol. Its in a middle of a very vibrant area. I wouldn't look for another place i just found the ONE. I'LL BE BACK

Very clean, flexible check-in time, easy check-out, comfortable beds and bath, ideal for our group of 10 persons. PERFECT location!!!

Very central location, nice hotel clean and we had a room with a small balcony and the bonus of aircon, easy to walk to some of Madrid's tourist attractions.

This is a hostal so expect only towels and nothing else. The room was clean but the extra blankets were old and smelled like they have never been washed so we never used them. Thankfully it was summer so no need of them. It was a very noisy street, we heard people partying at 3/4am in the morning. The staff was very helpful. Make sure you check your key works at the entry door. Ours didn’t work and thankfully people were walking out so we were let in, otherwise they had a number you could call for emergencies. I had never stayed at a hostal but had heard of hostels so I adjusted my expectations and it was what I thought.

Horrible hotel, The Hostal Castilla located in Madrid Spain was the worst hotel i have stayed at. Dirty rooms, rude staff, ….. Pick another Hotel! Expedia should drop Hostal Castilla from their list of hotels in Madrid, Spain.

Stayed for 3 days. No faults noted. Everything was as expected. One thing they could improve is the communication for those that are checking in late. Best that they provide clear instructions. Overall, good stay.

Great location. The room was clean and small and basic as the per to the photos. Be advised this is not a modern property. Our bathroom was dated. The window looked into a very small interior court yard and other peoples accommodations so it need to be remain closed. We had to cross the street to another building to access the room. Location location location! I thought overall it was not good value!!

Great short stay

I was initially given a room without a window but the staff were so kind and moved me to one with a window/balcony. Clean room! Only thing I would say is you can hear noise from your neighbours so bring earplugs

very well located near the center of historic Madrid, only a short walk from Plaza de Sol, Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real, Catedral, and many others.

WiFi was weak or didn’t work at all in the room. Beds were rock hard. No soap in bathroom. Our room was in a different building than lobby, and the staff was not helpful. The location was good; very close to what we wanted to do, but in a quiet area.

Hotel was very clean with friendly staff and in a brilliant location near Sol metro station with bars and restaurants close by. Rooms are a little dated but if you are like us that just want a clean, ideally located hotel, this is the one for you

Simple clean comfortable accommodation that was in a great location.

The room smelled like sewage all the time. When complained to the front desk they never fixed or never offered to change the room as it was past the front desk hours. Please beware of these situations at this property as they will not come to help you.

The hostal was very clean with a nice smell and very convenient the location

Their rooms are in two different buildings. The rooms in one building look decent as you might see from the pictures. The rooms in the other building are something that makes you experience ancient Rome life style. Curtains are falling off. The bathroom is unusable. I told a property manager that the room looks different from what I saw from the booking site. She gave a decently remodeled room located at the other building, but a small single room although I booked a double room. I later talked a different manager. I explained my situation and asked about a possibility of partial refund since I am staying at a single room. He said “it is not my problem. It is your problem.” I have been talking with expedia about my experience. It seems like I am not getting anything back. So bad.

Convenient located, must attractions are walking distance. The place is very clean but needs some renovation. I was able to do an early check in, considering I had an overnight flight this was a great deal. Staff is friendly and reachable.

The receptionist and owners were very hostile. When I questioned the price I had booked for versus the rate on the day of my arrival, the receptionist was very derisive and hostile and put me on the phone with the owner who berated at me loudly and to no end on the phone- a lost opportunity to just explain policies and move on. Much unnecessary drama and attitude. The second receptionist could not be bothered to even answer a simple question about location of tourist attractions. However, the cleaning staff saved the day! I lost an expensive watch that I had assumed to have slipped off my wrist in the street but it turned out to be that it was somewhere in the room: the cleaning lady found it and delicately placed it where I could see it as soon as I got in the room. If it were not for the honesty and the proficient cleaning job of the staff, I would have scored this hotel with a 1.

It is in the heart of Madrid. Our room was a bit small but clean. It is good if you are in a budget.

In the rooms there is a lot of noise, the cleaning was not good, there is mold in the bathtub, they were remodeling the hostel lobby and we had to walk through construction materials

I have stayed at this hotel for four nights. It’s a basic hotel but has all you need for a comfortable stay. Very clean. Well located, within walking distance of sightseeing attractions, metro, shopping and restaurants. I can’t speak any highly of the staff, specially the housekeeping staff. Accidentally, I left out some money, and by the end of the day, I thought I had lost it somewhere; however, when I went back to my room, surprise! It was sitting on top of my suitcase. You can understand, that totally made my day. I cannot thank them enough for the wonderful experience.

Very good hotel.

Hotel very well and centrally located just off Puerta del Sol. Close to Metro with lots of shops, restaurants bars etc. Very clean with fresh towels daily. Big plus was tea/coffee making facilities. Would definitely stay there again.

Great position

The room was small but comfortable. None of the furniture was fixed in place so we were able to rearrange the room a little to better suit us. A fantastic location and Madrid is an amazing city. We want to come back and would certainly stay here again.

The hotel is in a extraordinary location. However, the rooms is in another building of the reception desk that looks a little old and not too nice. The internet and cleaners is good. The reception desk in not available until 9am.

The place is clean, nice hot water. The shower area is too tight, I'm a small person and I hit something when I move in that little shower area. You can hear the noise so loud from the hallway that it seems they are next to you. The important thing is, the place is decent, clean and have a hot shower.

Having had to book at last minute due to previous hotel not providing what we had booked, we were a little tentative as literally opposite, but no need to worry and really wish we had booked first, nice hotel, great location, nice rooms, all very good especially at the price.

Terrible place with terrible service. Shower water was cold. Room was bad. Will never stay again or recommend this to others..!!!!!!! Get away from this place..!

Experience

The area is not the greatest at first glance but super interesting once you start walking around. Building is old, small balcony had cobwebs and cracked window pane. Room and linens were super clean and that all that really counts.

Great clean hotel in the middle of Madrid, walking distance to most of the famous buildings. All the restaurants yiu can dream of close just outside the door.

Perfect hostel for couple

My wife and I stayed two nights in this hostel and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The staff are very helpful and courteous. The room was warm when we arrived but quickly cooled down. The hostel is in a perfect central location for walking to numerous attractions. We were able to hear some people in other rooms, but it was very quiet overall during our stay. We would absolutely stay here again.

The room was ok for the value of money. Very good and convenient located in the center of the city. But the smell of dust and humidity all over the hotel was really bad.

A place near Sol metro

Right in the middle of town. The party section. Room was small because it is a hostel and walls are thin but one stll does have a room alone and beats sharing the space and price was low.

The beds were comfortable and the water in the shower good. The electric socket next to the bed was coming out of the wall. We were on the inside courtyard and the room felt a little stuffy. But the location was perfect, near Puerta del Sol. Lots of fun places within walking distance. It worked for us.
