Pool was disgusting! Hotel cleanliness was below aver
Asked staff for some extra towels because pool area was out and got attitude from front desk lady.
The pictures for the hotel were deceiving. It was like I got catfished. The room was outdated and smelled like mildew. The lobby was no better.
Location
This hotel was located perfectly for what we had on our itinerary ! About ten minutes away from bars and meow wolf.
I loved how close it was to the Toyota center. The walls were paper thin and our neighbors stayed up til about 2am and kept us up :(
Old, dirty and run down
We were given a room on the 4th floor with a shower that only had luke warm water, a sink that didn’t drain, a terrible smell of mold / mildew that had us coughing the entire next day, and a nasty dirty pool that had so much chlorine we could only stay in the room for 5 minutes and green scum on the side of the pool that would come off on your hands. We had to demand to be given a different room on a different floor, as the person on duty talked about how the 4th floor had just been “remodeled” due to a roof leak (hence the mold / mildew). The second room wasn’t much better. The only plus is it is close to the Toyota Center, if you don’t mind being sick for the basketball game.
The breakfast was good and the kids loved the indoor pool. The bed in the room was big and comfortable.
Seemed dated and run-down , in need of some serious renovations. Room had a 'old moldy smell.... but Staff were attentive.
Techno music on until 4 am two nights in a row right outside of my window. Great breakfast served for a long time! New additions/updates that improve the look of the place. New paint, bathroom and showers… but the shower door didn’t close.
This is the second Holiday inn that i don’t like. Once you approach the property it’s cut off due to roof damage.Very limited parking, the room didn’t have black out curtains. Very loud !!! i could hear children in the hallways . The show had a restriction on hot water not letting you turn past a certain point . there was no thank you for the stay after checking out . The only great thing about it is it was so close to the toyota center i could literally touch it from my hotel room. over all the breakfast was great . i wouldn’t recommend if you are wanting to relax or really enjoy yourself it’s good for a hi and bye in and out and great if you are going for a event and your there just for sleep . the bed was comfy and cozy i’ll add not the best but not the worst .
Broken pool, falling ceiling, terrible smell
I would recommend
Indoor jacuzzi and Heated pool is always a plus. Breakfast buffet was also nice.
El desayuno excelente .. los empleados excelentes !! El trato respetuoso y amistoso ..
Good
The purpose of my stay was for a cheer competition at the convention center. Property was very convenient, walkable to the convention center, dining options. Breakfast buffet was great.
The area was nice safe things we went out to see were walking distance love that
A ton to improve
The bathroom was recently renovated, but the Matress needs to be change soon, the room had a funny odor, that either we get used to it or went away when turning the AC on, location is great if yo have something to do nearby, breakfast is good
In a pinch, its not as bad as it looks.
The hotel is in poor condition, it looks like they have tried to keep up, but really just need to renovate the place. Carpet torn and missing, room recently painted, but there was no toilet paper holder in the bathroom, paint dripped on the floor, lots of stuff like that. Entrance has caution tape aound the covering, where part of that roof has fallen down, and so if its raining, you're bringing your luggage in from wherever you actually park.
It was very nice and affordable, very clean. The staff were great and the included breakfast was amazing. The only problem was the elevator could use a little maintenance as it made a few stange sounds that made me nervous but overall it was a great experience.
The property is about average. The room smells like stale cigarettes.
Need reconstruction
Perfect location for an event at the George R Brown convention center.
Close to Toyota Center
Building is a lot older than the pictures and price. Rooms are run down and halls smell like smoke. Staff did accommodate an allow is to check in early. They were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was great and plenty of options.
Great price for location.
Good basic stay. Friendly staff. Great price for location.
I was there for a concert at the Toyota Center and it literally took me 2 minutes to walk there. Great locations. The day manager was so nice and professional. Though renovations are in progress, the customer service was very good!
Should’ve been a Cheaper Rate
Kinda smelled like mildew throughout hotel…sheets smelled funny and bed was very uncomfortable. The people above us seemed like they were pacing back and forth stomping above our heads…lol
Nice
The room reeked of mildew. We found roaches. We the pool was cloudy and gross. Over all worse stay in my whole life. Only good thing was breakfast.
Building in front is falling down. Rooms looked like the landlord special.
Na
Wouldn’t do it again
One of our multiple rooms had to move rooms multiple times because of plumbing back ups. Besides theprice being high under major renovations and whole place was a mess.
It was good
This place is gross. It’s dirty and the staff wasn’t helpful at all. The heat wasn’t working in my room, there wasn’t another room available. At 8pm I called down for a blanket and was told that housekeeping left at 3pm and I would need to ask in the morning. I replied, “am I supposed to freeze overnight?” Then she put me on hold and told me to come to the front desk for a blanket. I DO NOT recommend this place. It also appears to be falling apart or under construction which made the outside very messy and dirty. My shower was dirty upon arrival, things were missing in my room, I just felt dirty and gross. I was in town for a convention and had no other choice. I would rather stay in my car
This was a nice place to stay since we were going to the convention center for a show.
Dirty rooms, very expensive for the quality, loud
I stayed here for a conference and for the price I was expecting a decent stay and had a terrible room. The "King Suite" smelled dank and moldy on first entering. On inspection it had water damage on the walls and ceiling. The shower had pink and black mold embedded in the caulk. The grout was missing and tiles were cracked. I went back for another room and they showed me the suite on the opposite end of the hotel and it was in worse shape. It was late at night so I decided to stay. It also turns out that the Bauhaus across the street has an outdoor dance club that played full volume music until 2 am. The only plus was the bed was clean and comfortable and breakfast was decent.
The room was mildewy smelling. The property looked ran down. Luckily it was one night
Indoor hot tub is icy cold, staff is dishonest, rooms are out dated and needs maintenabce
We went to this hotel for its proximity to the Toyota Center. We wanted to walk there for a concert. Other than that, the hotel was sinply not good. The property had a weird mix of paint/humid smell. The TV also did not work.
We are very unhappy with this room. It was NOT the way your rooms looked online on the website. The bathroom is atrocious and is very unsafe to take a shower without at least one safety bar. We are seniors and it is very unsafe. The room looks like it is under construction and it was far from finished and therefore it should not have been allowed to be occupied.
Absolutely terrible. Filthy. Door wouldnt lock properly. Felt unsafe! NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!!
The door lock didnt work , you have to insert the card several times, it has a humid smell, the tv didnt work. The roof at the entrance in falling
Very convenient location to the convention center. The building was damaged, I assume from a hurricane and no progress the entire week I was there.
Not great for the price
The room was kind of gross. There was chipped paint, rusted bars in the bathroom. There was no towel bar to hang a hand towel other than the rack above the toilet. No shelf at all in the shower, so we had to set our toiletry items on the floor of the shower. The shower water got warm but never hot. The walls in our room were pure white with zero art or wall-hangings, not even one framed painting or artwork to look at. On the plus side, the front staff was nice, breakfast was good, and I liked having a fridge and microwave in the room. But overall I feel the room was way overpriced. We paid $819 for 3 nights which seemed outrageous for what we got. Maybe it’s justified because of the location, but still a disappointment, as I’ve stayed in many Holiday Inn Express hotels, and I’ve never seen one this run-down.
The hotel is in terrible shape. Falling apart. Extremely dirty, grimy, disgusting. The floors in the hotel room were "sitcky". Shower had no pressure. Not clean - human hair all over the place. curtains were threadbare. The smell in the hallway WAS mold. Everything about the hotel is completely run down, The free breakfast was so bad!!!! For instance, omelets were runny. Bread was stale. The coffee was absolutely terrible. The cream was even curdled. The front entrance was a mess - from the storm. But still. The storm was a relatively long time ago.....we will never stay there again!!!! They should refund everyone their money to safe face and reputation. This hotel gives Holiday Inn (an iconic US brand -especially for travels) a bad name and a black eye.
Not great
It was decent but not great. Parking was a challenge with construction, room and AC smelled moldy, loud club across the street made it dificult to sleep the first night, shower water preasure non-existant. Updates needed all around, but it seems they are working on it. Staff were friendly but sparse. Amenities again decent, not great. Location not ideal for George Bush Convention center.
Property is old and tired. Location is good. Staff friendly and helpful. If you get a bedroom at the back of the hotel beware there is a nightclub (BAUHAUS) that blasts out music until 3am in the morning. Bring ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones or you are not sleeping.
Ok if you're not picky
The good - 1) Very close to the Toyota Center 2) A decent breakfast, available over 4 hours 3) Bed was comfortable The bad - 1) Nightclub across the parking lot was bumping until 2am 2) Our room appeared to be starting to fall apart - Stains on curtains, lampshade ripped, bathroom with patches on walls
Great location
Hotel definitely needs some very needed outside cleanup. outside landscape looks like a jungle. interior is clean.
The bathroom door did not close right, the mattress for the sofa was super thin very uncomfortable. Not enough water pressure when changing from bathtub setting to shower head. However, it was a very spacious suite, overall clean, and convenient location.
The location was great and convenient. The property had a lot of issues of water damage from the storm. The flooring of my room and hallway was unleveled. The hotel had many unfinished projects for renovation. The breakfast was good with different options.
Location a few blocks from dining, ok area, site under renovation. Better than normal continental breakfast.
The stay was okay. The room had an old moldy smell, the floor was uneven which was odd. While the location was good, there needs to be security or something. There was broken glass in the parking lot and people that were about to fight across from the building. The building was not the nicest looking on the inside but for the price its managable.
The first night was a bit rough and the first room had a terrible leak from the ceiling and smelled of mold and mildew. We were switched to a different room and our toilet did not work and it also smelled of mildew but no other rooms to switch to until the morning and after all day traveling and super late check out we waited to be switched. The next room was fine and no real issues but was not on the same floor as the construction that was going on for renovation.
Good
Horrible
Overall, the staff were excellent and very attentive and helpful. The provided breakfast was also good. The issues with the hotel are that it’s a little old looking and some parts of the ceiling are kind of falling apart (it looked like they were working on fixing this while we were there). We occasionally would find bugs in the bathroom (mostly pill bugs and once a small roach). The pool also wasn’t great, the hot tub jets didn’t work and the water wasn’t warm. Overall you get what you pay for - it does the job nicely for events at the convention center next door at an affordable price.
None of the ice machines were working, the ac was just ok; not cold. The common areas and rooms were not clean. Cleanliness is not a priority for this place. The pool area was not clean either. Beds were not comfortable. Very disappointed and bad experience staying at this Holiday Inn!!
Dirty and old and work going on
smell and very warm
It was a 2 minute walk to the Toyota Center from the hotel.
The toiletries are old. The door locked up and can’t open in the bathroom
Front desk service was good. Breakfast area and food was good. Room was not good. Musty and I found a roach in my room when I got out of bed.
Wish i had better things to say. First let me start by saying this hotels staff went above and beyond to accomodate and help. That said the hotel is currently in renovating looking to improve but being in the state it is in they should really consider adjusting their pricing till the renovations are made.
Hotel was perfect walking distance to Toyota Center. Love that you get one parking pass and they offer free breakfast. The main parking lot was hard to get around due to the main entrance being blocked off due to roof issues. The parking lot for guests had multiple spots taken my construction materials. People were parked all over in non spots. We had a king size bed room. Bed was comfy. Water in shower got very hot. Pool area was inside which was nice. Air in room felt like it wouldn’t cool down. We got in late so didn’t notify front desk because we were tired. Other than that, no issues. Would stay again when we attend an event in Houston!
We couldn't unload our bags under the covered area, because it was falling apart and was taped off. The lobby smelled moldy and was definately worn The elevators smelled and the room smelled very moldy... The carpet all around the AC unit was wet. The walls and basebords were in disrepair all over the facility. The pool and hottub were cloudy. You couldnt see the bottom of either. There was a brownish yellow scum around the waterline of both... The positive was the breakfast... the food was good, there was a good selection, the dining area was clean and the staff very courteous. The pistures were definitely not reflective of our experience.
Hotel is a great value for the location. It is walking distance to Minute Maid Park, Toyota Center, and lots of great restaurants. Yes, the rooms are a bit dated, but for us, the convenience outweighed those details. The staff was quite welcoming also; with Roxana at the breakfast service being phenomenal and treating guests like family. Kudos to her for the 5 star service!
Decent. Old, needs remodeling
Staff was super nice! Breakfast was amazing! Remodel work going on which takes up some parking but otherwise not an issue!
Book elsewhere
This hotel appears to be in the midst of a much needed renovation. There are shipping containers taking up parking spots in an already small parking lot. The lobby is dark and dingy and smells moldy. I had to try two different sets of keys that never worked I was finally let into my room by a member of the housekeeping staff. The room was dingy, and was in dire need of paint. The door to the mini fridge hung open. I decided I didn’t feel safe in this hotel and immediately went back to the registration desk and told them I didn’t feel safe and would not be staying
Like the hotel it was walking distance from the arena.
Dirty oldy chaos The 4th floor of the hotel was really smelly. (2 and 3 floor were ok IDK why) Same for our first room on 4th floor. I guess it was because the carpet haven’t been cleaning for a long time. Furnitures smelly too. Even crazier, our shower room did not have a DOOR. First I thought it was some special design until the water flooded to the entire room. When I contacted the front desk. They behaved like they didn’t know there was a room in the hotel without shower room door…. The staff were friendly though, they helped us swapped a room in Third floor which was less smelly and with regular shower room. undoubtedly the worst hotel experience in my life. a holiday inn cloud be like that, unbelievable.
Overall experience was pleasant. I think the jacuzzi needs attention as far as cleaning and water temperature. That was a small dislike. Everything else was fine
The shower had not been cleaned. There was not any place to hang our clothes. Staff was friendly the covered parking was damaged and blocked off. Did not get the expected holiday inn standards
N/A
Upon checkin, we had some confusion with the names that out reservation was held under. The front desk clerk was not kind or helpful at all. After we figured out a solution (only after we made several suggestions), we checked into our rooms, only to be greeted by a musty smell so bad, it took our breath away. There had been storms in the area before we arrived, which probably caused the smell, but it was so bad, that we considered changing hotels and were surprised the hotel had remained open in this condition. During our stay, there were several other concerns and frustrations. At one point the hot water didnt work, one of our rooms did not have a working safety lock, the showers did not have a place to set toiletries (I used a towel on the back of the toilet to set items), and our rooms were not all cleaned daily. We have stayed in Holiday Inns many times throughout the country, and this was our first bad experience. We would not return to this location, as this was not a good experience.
Perfect location, room was clean and spacious. Free breakfast was good and had a decent variety. Would stay here again
Great for a short stay
Great location for what we needed. Excellent proximity to Toyota Center. We were there for a concert. A few blocks from good food and restaurants but also a couple blocks from a not so good side of town. Hotel is old but clean and everyone was super nice.
Both card-keys kept deactivating.
Not worth it
Main door to my room wouldn’t close. Bathroom door didn’t close at all. Really bad smell all over hotel. Sheets were dirty all this for almost $200.
We were not told at checking that there was no running water. Nor were we told that our room have a foul order. The front desk staff was extremely rude, would not help resolve the issues. We were told we were free to go and the hold would be removed from our credit card immediately. However it has not been removed yet.
We had no hot water and rooms were not clean. VERY unhappy
We had an amazing stay!
They have some renovations going on. The initial room that was given to us was on the same floor they were currently doing renovations and the smell was terrible. Cleaning products , chemicals. Paint etc. we requested a change of rooms and they did not have same room available but they did accommodate us in another floor.
Stunk and ac wouldn’t cool
There were roaches in the room, restroom needed work and not able to sleep due to loud music from nearby establishment.
quite below average stay
they are working on the building so it’s under construction lots of drywall hanging out front and caution tape. first room we had smelled like moldy - there was dirty bathroom and beer cans / trash. they also told me they would not set up a crib which was one of the reasons i picked this place because housekeeping left for the day. the two people up front were nice but really not that helpful in that regard. felt safe but will not be staying here again.
Not as advertised.
Leaking AC, water on the floor, mold on the ceiling in the shower, terrible smell from the AC
This is our second time to stay at this hotel and walk to the Astro’s baseball game. It’s a very nice clean comfortable hotel with a great breakfast.
Due to the construction going on made it hard to park by the front office when we checked in. The staff and food was great. It was peaceful and we enjoyed our entire stay. I'm sure once construction is completed it will be awesome.
The property smelled unpleasant and there was work being done at the back guest entrance that was blocking beginning in bags smoothly. There was also yellow caution tape at the front due to what appeared to be roof water damage blocking easy entry. The property just seems pretty old in need of updates. However, the staff qas very friendly and professional. I liked that the property was near the venue I was in town to attend.
Ok for one night stay
Comfortable beds and good enough variety at breakfast. Just did not know it was under remodel and we were placed in the 3rd floor where people were working on most rooms so felt uncomfortable and unsafe staying with all the materials dust and crews there. Also not the hotels fault but some of the people we came across while staying were speaking so much vulgarity and profanity and I had my children with me, but maybe it’s just the area or something not sure. Overall probably won’t stay there again, or will make sure construction has been completed at least.
Convenient location
Very close to Toyota center
Property in disrepair. Felt moldy as well.
Convenient
Poor room
The room was clean. The parking is horrible. We had to wait for someone to leave so we can park. There’s not enough parking spaces for the amount of rooms. The door to the room wouldn’t open we had to shove it open. When you leave the door wouldn’t shut completely and you had to pull it to make sure it closed. The bathroom door couldn’t close. So you had to use the bathroom with the door open. And the air conditioner was poor. The high fan was a very low fan speed and it was hot in the room. Definitely would not stay here again.
This hotel does not deserve the 8-9 star rating. This building needs a lot of work. From the landscaping ( overgrown bushes and trash) to the rooms. My room had a musty smell. We found obvious mold in the bathroom. Shower curtains need repair. Missing ceiling tiles in the tower and hallways. The paint on the walls need some attention. Other than what was stated above my sheets were clean. The bathroom was had been cleaned also. The biggest perk was it’s proximity to the convention center.
Needs and urgent update
unsafe
