We really enjoyed our stay at the Holdepa. Amazing location in the Zona Colonial. Everything was within easy walking distance. We also enjoyed the pool area.
Perfect hotel in the heart of the colonial zone.
Beautiful place. Excellent location. Nice personnel. The only complaint, terrible breakfast.
Historic property in the heart of the zona colonial and walkable to multiple bars, restaurants and historical landmarks
The staff was amazing. I was sick and needed Tylenol. The staff went out to shop for us. There is also free coffee, tea and snacks all day. Overall really recommend this hotel.
Hermoso el hotel! Unos jardines bellos.
Wonderful
Stay here!! Amazing breakfast also
Super hotel. Love it here. Excellent service.
This is the second time my husband and I stayed at this hotel and it’s always been an amazing experience. However, this time around there were a couple of hiccups. For example, the electricity on one side of the room went out 2x. Secondly, based on the room we booked, we were suppose to have received 4 cards for free drinks per/night. Instead, we only got 4 cards for the whole 5 days. So clearly not all staff are aware of the perks certain reservations come with. Other than that, everything was amazing. Highly recommend.
I always love this hotel, from the moment you walk in you feel welcomed and the facilities are outstanding
I had a fantastic visit to this hotel. Felix was especially helpful to me. When my plans to go to the airport fell apart, he leapt to the rescue and was able to secure a special taxi for me. He was also very friendly and knowledgeable
Nice hotel but could be better
Superb property but could be better managed. Average breakfast
Great place to stay in Santo Domingo, as always
Fantastic place
This is right in the center of Zona Colonial. The staff was friendly and accommodating. My favorite part is that the rooms have a bathroom with a door that closes (believe it or not this was an issue at another hotel, which was more modern). The only note I could give is that I ordered red wine once at the bar and they for some reason store red wine in the refrigerator. I think that's weird, but again - not the end of the world. Thank you for an amazing home away from home.
The hotel is beautiful and it is in a great location. The WiFi was very slow and due to the climate the room had a damp smell. The service was great until the very end, when the concierge tried to convince us not to take a bus to our next destination because it was too dangerous. The staff had also told us that there would be a taxi waiting outside the hotel all the time, but when we tried to leave there was no taxi available. The concierge spent 10 minutes telling us to take a private car, and when he finally called a taxi it took another 15 minutes to arrive, which made us miss our bus. A disappointing end to what was otherwise a lovely stay.
Great
I love this hotel- stayed here for years. I don’t understand how they don’t accept American Express
It is an excellent hotel with great people. I would love to go back again; it would be very convenient.
Excellent Service!!!
Place was amazing.
The staff was so friendly. We enjoyed the ambiance and the buillding…over 500 years old. We will stay here again.
Wonderful property in Santo Domingo. Very comfortable rooms and friendly staff. Absolutely recommend if you are staying in Zone Colonial.
This was my third stay, I won't stay anywhere else in Santo Domingo.
This is a very special property and definitely a unique experience. I highly recommend one of the classic rooms for the full colonial experience. The concierge and front desk staff are among the nicest and most helpful you’ll find anywhere (especially Felix!).
The staff were so nice and when I was having issues with charging my phone they all jumped to help! Loved the pool, drinks and music! Will definitely stay again!
Wife and I enjoyed being at the property tremendously the only downfall was that the room was very dark. lighting options were bad and electrical outlets were limited besides that everything was perfect.
A lot of noise in room
It was ok
had a terrible stay. Air conditioner was not working throughout my stay and staff was not helpful at all. Horrible experience.
Nicest hotel in Colonial Zone - by far!
1st Hotel of America - a must for first visitors to DR... Some equipment looks like brought by Vespucci in 1492 Beautiful stay
Excellent stay, as always, the best in Santo Domingo.
All is great
Excellent
Hotel colonial muy bien cuidado. Los empleados muy serviciales.
Beautiful hotel very walkable to all bars and restaurants.
Marvelous, clean, comfortable, staff is awesome, we were greet by Felix, knowledgeable, kind, speak good English, know the history of the place. Truly a palace of a governor
The upgrade room had a strong humidity smell.
El hotel muy limpio y acogedor. El billar está en mala condición. El bar muy bueno. Use el restaurante para cenar la comida muy buena el servicio puede mejorar.
Loved the location, place Transported us back in time .
Cannot beat the location! If driving, getting through the old town maize is very tricky and google maps not reliable.
Best hotel in the area, a lot hof history and i like that staff take you around the hotel to show you and tell you some of the history
Beautiful hotel a little difficult to find but nonetheless was very nice property and great employees
Good hotel with excellent service and staff. Some areas and furniture need some maintenance, like the pool chairs and chaise-longs, but over all, it was a nice stay.
The hotel was very historic and the staff was amazing! The food and drinks in the hotel was great! We walked everywhere and love it!!!
Very nice location
Love this hotel, best location to stay when in Zona Colonial. Close to all of the hot spots.
Amazing as always
The best service of any hotel in the colonial zone. Wonderful hotel and a truly amazing colonial experience.
Amazing hotel! Historic feel with modern amenities. Free daily drinks were a nice touch, as was the pool and free parking. The area is under construction so it's a bit confusing to get to the hotel by car. The TVs in the common areas were under par for such a beautiful hotel with outstanding service.
Beautiful hotel, you feel you are going back in time and your stay feels as if you are staying in a beautiful castle with a modern twist.
Beautiful!!!
As always, great service and staff, and excellent location.
Excellent stay
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful country. Felix was an excellent host - everyone at the hotel was extremely nice and professional. I will definitely visit again!
Lovely historical buildings.
Wonderful staff. Friendly and knowledgeable on the history of the building. Which was full of history.
Convenient location easy to walk around colonial area
I loved this hotel. It's a bit like staying in a museum. And it's close to all the other historic sites in the Ciudad Colonial. The staff were all extremely helpful. The food in the restaurants was very good. Bed and towels were fresh and clean. The only fault I could find was the HVAC, which was noisy at first, but I adjusted the fan down from #3 to #2 setting and it was quiet, so the problem was solved. The lady at the desk called the room after I got in and asked if all was ok. I hadn't noticed the hum by then, but it was all ok. Oh--great shower too!
You will enjoy the beautiful colonial decor and the grounds are impeccably marked and preserved to display the natural beauty of nature.
Staff
Best historic hotel in the country
Great location, close to plaza colonial. Good restaurant onsite, loved the pool and poolside bar. Courteous staff. The roof in our room leaked after a heavy downpour on our 4th day, they immediately upgraded us to a nice room.
The hotel is really nice. Everyone in the staff is friendly and willing to help. I had an issue with the shower head which fell off and they immediately relocated us to a nicer room.
I didn’t like that it was too quiet in the public areas.
Exceptionally beautiful historic hotel. Staff were Exceptionally friendly and professional
.
This is a beautiful, historic property located in the center of the colonial zone. Our room was gorgeous, spacious, and very clean. The people who attended to us were warm and made us feel right at home. This is our second time at this hotel. We first visited for one night several years ago and were thrilled to be able to return for a multi-night stay. It's definitely worth it. I highly recommend it.
Very nice property, conveniently located. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Staff had exceeded our expectations in being helpful and polite. The hotel was beautiful and centrally located. The premises were so well-kept it was hard to believe that the structure (at least part of it) has been around since 1502!
The hotel is beutiful and lovey for my net time back to the DR
The people were exceptionally hospitable, kind and jovial. We felt cared for.
I liked the history of this place, and everything historic in Santo Domingo is near to it. Very friendly staff Edwin gave me a tour of the property.
History value, great food, great location
10 out of 10 for service, location convenient would stay again
Everything was totally perfect clean nice and fun environment. There were some random firearms going off even in the nice part of the hotel a splugered for but I assume it’s bc people tried getting away with smoking cigars. Great breakfast and service tho
Their service was outstanding!
Great place
I love the aesthetics and vibe of the hotel. & the customer service was 10/10.
Nice
Great location, comfortable rooms, quiet, and safe. I will be returning soon.
Fine Hotel
Excellent Hotel on a quiet street, but only 5 minute walk from the busy and charming Colonial Zone.
The property itself is very nice. The main problem with this hotel is that several areas of the hotel have mold. I am highly allergic so this was problematic. Also, I paid for a higher end room and when it rained, there were 4 leaks in the celling, dripping on our bed. When I went to alert the front desk, they apologized, but did not have any other rooms available. We put towels under the leaks, but we needed to leave for a business dinner reservation. Upon returning, they offered us another room which had less amenities that what we had paid for. It was musty and in a far corner from the hotel. We were not offered anything for inconvenience other than the explanation.."it's a historic hotel."
Beautiful place - ugly customer service. I’ve purchased at least 70 days at this hotel through the years. Recently I booked 3 rooms. 2 for 7 nights, 1 for 3 nights. I mistakenly switched the names of the short stay and the longer stay. 1) The hotel would not let me use the remaining days when my friend left, 2) would not return my money, 3) denied Expedia request as well, 4) then want me to pay more to stay longer
In my view this the best hotel in the colonial city. Great location, nice pool, good bar service and comfy rooms. Enough said.
Amazing property with a lot more of history
Very nice finishes incorporating old and new
Beautiful hotel! They have melded this historic building with the 1500’s feel and all of the modern conviences. The staff are so friendly and want to make your stay amazing. Pool was great to cool off by in the middle of the day, with a full bar and food. Downtown Santo Domingo is beautiful and full of life, you can explore a lot of the city just in walking distances from the hotel.
Felix was such a great concierge... He assisted us with our bags and gave us some history of the hotel while he helped us settle in! Hotel is gorgeous too. (Consider not driving into Santo Domingo in general though... Take a bus or something.) Great hotel. Great staff !
A fantastic property centrally located. Easy access to the colonial zone and lots of fantastic areas to visit. I have to give aspecial shout out to Felix who assisted us in getting rides and guides to the 3 eyes lakes and the cave restaurant. One of our friends left his favorite hat in the cab and Felix tracked him down again and safely delived the hat back. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and attentive. Would recommend room 4009.
The hotel is really nice. Pool area and breakfast buffet were amazing. The only concern is that there is construction right outside the hotel so not really practical with suitcases. But staff was really helpful. And helped us.
Una experiencia super encantadora.
The hotel is located in beautiful historic building with nice courtyard and lobby, but the guest rooms all had heavy moldy smell. I checked 4 rooms they all smelled like that, I had to pick a less smelly one to stay. After 1st night stay I started coughing and I had to take allergy medicine! After I checked out of this hotel and arrived in Punta Cana, when I open my luggage all my clothes even the suitcase itself had these terrible moldy smell. that’s how bad it was. The breakfast was ok but the breakfast staff lacked attention to customers and some of them were very unprofessional. I asked for sugar for my coffee, the waitress wouldn’t go to the station to get the sugar set for me instead she just grabbed the sugar set from next table even there were customers still eating their breakfast.
A very different hotel compared to others we have stayed in due to it being housed in the old governor's house. We enjoyed our time there and it was ideally located for the colonial district. One downside was due to the directions the hotel sent us for vehicular access. It would have been more useful (we arrived in a hire car, not a taxi) if the directions had taken us to the hotel car park.
Great location.

Best spot in zona colonial. Close to everything in the area, museums, restaurants, bar, parks.
the staff was excellent. The doorman was a wealth of information. I went the extra mile .
Excellent
