I would like to share my experience of staying at this exceptional hotel in Tulum. In my opinion, it was the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating and even surprised us with a romantic dinner. We opted for the all-inclusive package, and the food and drinks were of top-notch quality. I am definitely looking forward to returning to this remarkable hotel.
Everything was perfect.
HOUSEKEEPING STEALS NO RESOLUTION FROM MANAGEMENT
Stayed at Hip Hotel March 9 - March 14 2023. Had a fun time at hotel March 9 and 10. The fun ended Saturday March 11 when wife's Louis Vuitton purse was stolen out of her closed luggage on March 11th. We know exactly when the purse was stolen and who stole it (based on the mini bar invoice with the hand writing of the person who took the purse). There is security footage of my wife returning to the hotel with the purse the evening before it was stolen. Hotel didn't allow us to see the footage of the housekeeper going into our room to clean is between the hours of 3-5pm on March 11 when we were at the beach at Hip Hotel. No one from the hotel seems to care of take this seriously. This is a $1600 purse that was stolen. The simply said they asked the housekeeper and they said she said that she didn't take the purse. Of course she's going to say that! She had to dig into my wife's luggage to get to the purse too. We had additional evidence and even a timeline for the hotel to observe the cameras they 'swear they have' on the property, to look at when we left the room with the purse and the property. They could see that we went back into the room with the purse, and we left the room without it while the house keeper was cleaning the room. All things point to the house keeper stealing the purse. When we ask for the owner's contact information, they block you from getting it. Sent an email a few days ago to the manager and no response. This is not where you want to stay...
Amazing nice small resort Hotel very pictureistic, with the water and sand just a few steps from your room. Staff is very cordial, respectful and friendly. Good food and good amenities. Highly recommended
The food/ alcohol was expensive
Wonderful beach location and service
We stayed 3 nights at this lovely beach hotel. The location on Tulum's coast was perfect for us. It's on the quieter end of the hotel area, and that's what we had hoped for. There are plenty of dining choices along the main road within easy walking or transit distance. Our complimentary daily breakfast was a really nice treat, and all the servers were friendly and helpful, especially Roberto. The restaurant had a beautiful ocean view on the deck as well as inside. The rest of the staff was equally kind. We did have one issue as we found ourselves in a room choice that we had not made. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk, Aranza and the concierge, Mariciel, apologized for the error and immediately tried to fix the problem. We ended up moving rooms for our last night, and were given a bottle of champagne for our inconvenience. We appreciated their responsiveness. We would absolutely return to the Hip Hotel. The morning sunrises were spectacular!
It was good
Hotel was exactly as expected. Description and pictures accurate. Staff was SUPER friendly and helpful with all requests. We loved our room, view and hammock on porch. Enjoyed the nightly turn down service with sweet treat. Thank you for making it a great trip for my daughter & I.
The breakfast that was included was not good
Incredibly friendly staff, fantastic food and breathtaking beach and views
Perfect small property where your room is steps away from the restaurant and the beach
We loved our stay here. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The restaurant had plenty of options and everything was tasty. We would stay again any day!!
The staff was great! The ocean front room had an incredible views of the sunrise. It is far enough from the party zone but still walking distance from restaurants if you want to eat out.
N/A
Our stay at Hip Hotel was magical! We will be back again.
Great experience
Great location, very helpful front desk concierge helped us schedule Covid tests before returning home. The staff here goes out of their way to ensure you have a great stay.
It was like having our own private ocean. We could have both done without the music they played.
As a gold member none of my gold member advantages were honored. I honestly feel like they owe us some type of partial credit. No upgrade they gave us a big hassle about late check out we had two rooms and no spa treatment as promised.
It was within walking distance to the beach. Loved it
The location of this proper is great, bed was comfortable, rooms have AC, good water pressure, however it needs some TLC. Our roof was leaking and we had dead bugs in our roof, hot water only lasted for a few minutes, there is no internet service available in the room. You can only access internet in the restaurant or at the front desk area where there is no place to sit comfortably.
Amazing place would stay again. Only issue was weak WIFI signal. Not having television is okay but no television or WIFI :/
The best hotel I have ever been with the best staff. Jesus helped us a lot to finding best places to party and do other things. I will definitely come back there.
The food is pretty bad here. There is no WiFi in the hotel except at the restaurant and front desk. So, you need to go and sit at the front desk just to get WiFi.
I definitely recommend the Hip Hotel!I will come back many times!
It’s pretty basic but nice, one thing I noticed is that the staff could be more attentive to their black patrons. Sat down at the beach for over 20 mins and nobody came to ask if we wanted to order something, we had to call them over once we saw 3 attendants run over to a white couple who just walked up. Even at breakfast I had to ask for a bread basket long after I saw a white couple sit down and it was handed to them. Not sure what that is about but management needs to let their staff know to treat everyone the same. I normally leave a good tip in spite of service like this but this time was really annoyed and didn’t. I’m a good tipper too so they lost out, sad for them lol.
Uncomfortable bed but great beach location
Great beach, nice people, terrible hard mattresses and very thick pillows, very uncomfortable also noisy street but that can’t be the fault of the hotel. Cute place, friendly staff but could not stay there again without a bedding change.
No hot water No TV NO Wi-Fi in the room Rooms old furniture
Go somewhere else
Breakfast wasn’t enough for a small child. Paid 700 for a room that was smoke filled small and incredibly depressing across from a parking lot. When asked about the breakfast being 6 thinly sliced pieces of fruit, was told “nothing we can do”. I never leave reviews but felt compelled for the sake of future guests.
Hip Hotel Tulum was a delight! The location is perfect, the rooms are charming, clean and the staff is exceptional. They made us feel home. Alexis, Arturo, Julio and Lester thank you so much for taking such a good care of us! We will be back soon!
Good not Great
This hotel is right on the beach and we had an ocean view from our room which was lovely. Location is central, and the beach is beautiful without seaweed. Walking distance to everything you need! Now for the drawbacks, We had a problem with our hot water, which when we told them they sent Maintance right away. Once fixed, the water only stayed warmish for 3 minutes of a shower, then cold. There was AC and it worked great! We were in a room on the edge of the property next to a busy bar and the music played loud all day and till midnight. The front desk didn’t have ear plugs, we got some at the pharmacy. We had an issue with this more during the day when we wanted to take a nap before dinner, which was impossible. Also I wanted to book transport through the hotel but they wanted $150 to get to the airport which is way more than simply booking online, sort of frustrating. They did provide covid testing on the property for $55. This hotel is very much so a 3 star hotel. I don’t think we would stay here again with the lack of hot water and the noise from the bar next door but we did not enjoy our stay and the beach is gorgeous
My girlfriend and I were very happy with this hotel. It’s on a quiet section of the strip but short walking distance to all the restaraunts and bars. The beach at Hip Hotel is great and the lunch menu food was our favorite. The beach at Hip Hotel is also very solid. We would re-book
This hotel was amazing. It was so amazing we walked out of there as socios. We purchased a “time-share” equivalence and will return several times to Hip and Ana y Jose. The staff was amazing. Location was amazing. We are in love with the place. We will be back over and over. Jesus was amazing.
The rooms are so beautiful! They’re rustic in a way old Texas meets the most beautiful beach in the world. The property is cozy and comfortable.
Great hotel and Location. Would stay here again.
Excellent. Incredible staff. Great restaurant and food. Relaxing massage. Extremely happy with our stay.
I loved that you could see the sunrise when you awake in the morning. Looking out at the Caribbean every morning drew you to the beach which was at your doorstep. Everything was there: loungers on the beach, service on the beach, breakfast on the beach.
Amazing place, amazing people. Sergio and Cyhthia were veru helpfull and really nice.
The staff was amazing, particularly the concierge Aline, the beach was one of the cleanest and the property is well situated and clean.
Superb Service
Our stay at Hip Hotel was amazing. Great service. Faustino and Esai took such great care of us in the restaurant and beach bar! Anything we needed they were there for us. Overall, the staff was super helpful. From the minute we walked in to the minute we walked out, service was superb! We would stay here again!
Best hotel experience ever
Never been to a better hotel in my life, and I’ve stayed in more than 1,000 hotels in my life. Everything was amazing. Staff was incredible
Hip Hotel is very relaxing and chill. Tropical vibe and definitely far from the atmosphere you would be in at a large resort. The nicest staff I have ever meet and will truly miss them. The beach was beautiful and was the cleanest along the strip in Tulum. Highly recommend the outside taco bar down the street as well as Clan-Destino, a hidden little gem of a restaurant with it's own little cenote. Lots of fun there!!!
environmentally conscious. Very helpful staff at front desk
Best Hotel!
Really loved everything about this hotel, but loved the staff most of all. This property is so unbelievably beautiful and accommodating for the price. The location is absolutely superb -- right near everywhere you could possibly want to go. Highly recommend!
Excellent Location + Outstanding Hospitality!
We were utterly blown away by our fantastic stay at Hip Hotel! It's located in what we thought was the PERFECT spot at the south end of the beach close to restaurant hot spots Arca, Hartwood, and the newly-opened/must-try Garden, as well as nightlife hotspots Gitano & Moderno, and other great locales like Matcha Mama and the must-see Casa Malca. The room offerings are fantastic; we stayed in both the Ocean View room and the Garden View room. The rooms have everything but a hair dryer (bring your own!), and only the Garden Room had a full-length mirror. The restaurant was very good -- we were pleasantly surprised! You must try the steak tacos. The continental breakfast was also very good and we were especially fond of having espressos delivered to our room every morning. The staff could not have been friendlier. They showed us the best places around town & even let us keep our tablet at the front desk so our TV shows could download for the plane. I've seen people complain about lack of wifi in the rooms: you know that going into it! There is reliable wifi at the front desk and in the restaurant; you can spend 30 min a day hanging out there to check emails if you feel so inclined. Not having wifi in our room absolutely did NOT hinder our experience in any way. Bottom line is: this hotel is fantastic and such a great value; I'm recommending it to all of my friends who are planning Tulum trips!
Lovely, it’s different to city hotels and it’s really a place to relax
Good hotel, friendly staff
Good hotel, friendly staff - air con was good and bed was comfortable. Breakfast needs to be improved but it fills a hole.
Nothing but good things to say: friendly and helpful staff, charming rooms, good food. Located right on the beach. We wished we could have stayed a few mored days.
Great location and beach. Super friendly staff. Rooms are big and nicely decorated. We highly recommend this property
I think what I loved the most was that hammock on the front porch:-). Went there with couple friends.Everything as described on their page. The size of the room was huge, ocean view, huge shower...love all the natural/wood look. Price was pretty decent comparing with other hotels in Tulum. Staff was really helpful and careful with our needs. I can’t remember all of their names, but I will mention Julio and Anita, thank you for the attention you gave us.I would definitely stay there again.
Loved this place. Chill, beautiful, friendly.
Great hotel. Beautiful setting. Friendly staff. Can’t wait to come back. Breakfasts were great and beachside chill spots can’t be beat. Didn’t want to leave.
Had a fabulous time at this hotel! Everyone was super sweet and provided excellent service. Hotel was beautiful and in a great location, right on beach and walking distance to everything. Loved my stay here! :)
Beds not comfortable.
The beach was fantastic. Soft, white sands. Great staff! The only thing i would recommend is faster wifi.
Amazing
The service was amazing.
Very relaxed environment. First class service by friendly staff
The staff was extremely helpful and very kind. The hotel and grounds were beautiful and the restaurant had amazing food. They offer breakfast with your stay and it is wonderful. We got massages and they were awesome! We are ready to go back.
Excellent experience over all
Excellent staff. Great location. On the expensive side, but it is worth it. The only area I would recommend improving is for the hotel to get better towels.
Perfect Place to Chill!
Hip Hotel Tulum was terrific all-around. Low key, friendly staff, amazing beach location!
Clean, but older facility right on the beach. Nice comfortable king sized bed. Very friendly staff. Food in the restaurant was quite good. One small issue to me was that they recommended that we didn’t drink the tap water, but charged us 75 pesos for bottled water.
Great hotel
Me and my boyfriend had an great time at Hip Hotel. The staff is very friendly and you have plenty of palapas at the beach to choose from. I also enjoyed a lot the fact that the restaurant is beach front so we could have the breaksfast with the ocean view. The food was great! The rooms are spacious and all of them have a varanda with a hammock. A plus was the shampoo and conditioner they offer with all natural ingredients. Usually I get very disappointed with these details in other hotels, where the conditioner is like water or have no effect at all, but theirs is truly amazing, I even wanted to buy some for me. The only suggestion I would give is to not put any clients at room number 5. Unfortunately we had our first night there and it was not pleasant at all, the room is close to the street and reception and also right beside the generator of the hotel therefore is really noisy and we could not sleep. But they changed us to another room the next day and it was perfect!!! Sleeping with the ocean sound.
Awesome central location. Beautiful beach, food just ok and beach bar just ok but plenty of other excellent bars and restaurants very close by. Chocolate shampoo soap and lotion were so awesome, smell great!!
Paradise
Amazing! Really, amazing. Great location with many great bars, restaurants, boutiques close by. Staff were great and bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable.
Great experience
The room was very clean and spacious. We had room#2, next to the restaurant on the second floor (see pic below). The front desk lady said this room was the only ocean view room with an A/C. Some palm trees were in the way of the "ocean view" but nevertheless, you are beachfront with a lovely hammock to lay on right on your front porch. They have beds out in front of the beach that you can layout on. We had read that Ana y Jose (hotel) is a sister hotel to Hip Hotel Tulum so we decided to walk there and have breakfast one morning, which was exceptional. We recommend the breakfast at Ana y Jose and it's free of charge since its a sister hotel. Overall our experience was great, we even had the fortune of seeing a sea turtle while walking the beach at moonlight. We will definitely stay at Hip Hotel the next time we are in Tulum.
Great ocean view hotel!
We had a wonderful stay at Hip Hotel in Tulum. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The ocean view room was just as advertised and had a great breeze. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. Location in Tulum was excellent and a short walk to restaurants and shops.
Loved it!
Great staff, beautiful hotel. Will stay there again!
Great for couples!
The stay at Hip Hotel was amazing! This is a quaint hotel; clean, great customer service, amazing beachfront with cute cabanas and huts. The staff was able to answer all of our questions, they have valet parking always readily available. Breakfast is on the house and it's a great way to start your day. The wifi isn't great, but it was nice to get away and not have so much service :)
Hip Hip hurrah!
We've stayed at the Hip Hotel before so knew what to expect, it's lovely if you want somewhere small and quiet, we enjoyed the breakfast but wouldn't recommend it for eating in otherwise. The beds can be quite hard, but the cleanliness and the friendliness of the staff make up for any short comings. We really enjoyed our stay.
Great Spot to vacation at!!!
I went with my two daughters(26,29) and we had a great time in Tulum. The gave us a large room with an extra bed which was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Plus we had a full breakfast every morning that was part of the room charge and it was very tasty. Definitely would go back again to Hip Hotel Tulum!
Wonderful hotel and staff
This was an amazing hotel. I have stayed at other hotels on the beach in Tulum, and this was by far the best. They were very welcoming and organized. The restaurant was great, and the waitstaff and chefs were just wonderful and so kind and accommodating. Chef Juan Carlos was especially friendly and helpful. We walked down the beach looking for lunch one day and were so turned off by the rude service at several restaurants and hotels we looked into having lunch at that we just returned back to Hip Hotel and ate there. So much nicer than anything else we encountered. It is a larger property and all the staff have walkie-talkies, so that if you request something, they get on the walkie-talkie and someone brings it to you or your room in under a minute! Restaurant food was very good too. Try the Ceviche sampler, it is fantastic. Never had octopus and octopus ink ceviche ever! Rooms were very nice. Could do with updating the doors as they stick and the lock fell off the last day. Mainly I would return because of how very nice and helpful the staff were. They really made the stay great. If anyone asks me where to stay in Tulum Beach, I would definitely recommend Hip Hotel!
Lovely room, easy access to a fantastic beachfront
Everything was great at this hotel, inc the breakfast and restaurant food. Lovely room which was comfortable, spacious and within easy access to the beach and day beds, bar swings etc. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Some food/drink items were a little expensive but this seemed the going rate in Tulum. Its located quite far down the beachfront so definitely rent a bike if you like to wander, would definitely stay again!
Nice stylish hotel on beach
Very nice stay with great overall location on the beach. Only issue was room wasn't ocean view as expected, and location to road resulted in moderate noise. Beach facilities were wonderful though.
TOP SERVICE - no commens needed - absolutely COOL!
TOP SERVICE - no commens needed - absolutely COOL!
Real Life Fantasy Island
Paublo is a one-of-kind human being. He was more like a guardian angel, than an concierge. Staff was amazing and attentive. Food and drinks were inventive and top notch. We literally cannot wait to return!!
The Perfect beach getaway!
I picked this hotel from one other persons ratings. Do not come here if you want internet in your room, no air conditioning, no fridge, no TV. For me and my girlfriend perfect! The location, the staff, breakfast, service is second to none. This is the perfect beach getaway! Loved the staff, and everything else that this place offers to its costomers!
Nice place!
Nice place and ocean front property. Restaurant service was so-so.
Great little hotel in Tulum
Seems to me that the trend in Tulum is to keep your lodgings on the rustic side. That being the case, this hotel does it very well, while at the same time making sure you are comfortable and well taken care of. The restaurant is superb, the mexican cuisine is phenomenal, and the prices are better than the other restaurant's in the area. The bar is well stocked, and the staff is ready to get you whatever you want while you lay on the beach. You will not find kids jumping around you, the beach is beautiful, peacefull. Great place to relax, read, eat, drink, have fun, and recharge.
Hip Hotel in Tulum
We came to Tulum for a friends wedding and stayed at Hip Hotel. The location was great, everything within walking distance, and the hotel sat right on the beach! The staff was fantastic and the food was amazing! Our room was on the beach and had a nice breeze, but it would get a little warm at times. Four of the rooms have air conditioning, but it would be nice if they upgraded all the rooms to air conditioning in the future. Overall I would recommend Hip Hotel and the fantastic food and staff!
Amazing stay. Wonderful staff. Incredible food.
The Price Is Right.
The hotel offers free WiFi in the RESTUARANT/BAR area. Breakfast was included. Make sure to bring mosquito repellent. There are no TVs in the rooms and the walls are thin. The beach, however, is gorgeous. The price was better than surrounding hotels. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Nice hotel, on beach, great staff, light amenities
This hotel was decent. I would stay again, but I would also look around. The hotel is right on the beach. There is a nice area with cabanas and beach chairs. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You are a short walk to a bunch of restaurants. The free breakfast in the hotel restaurant was decent. We got massages in the spa, which were great. Breakfast was provided. I am picky on food, and the breakfast is decent. There did not seem to be a mosquito presence, which was nice with the Zika Virus scare. I did not get bit at all. My girlfriend got bit only a few times. The hotel is light on amenities, which is fine. There was no AC in the room. No pool. I think this is typical of Tulum, and I would much prefer it to the mega resorts in Cancun. I did feel that I overpaid a little, but I think the price is consistent with the rest of Tulum.
Had a wonderful time! Staff and the food was great.
Great rooms great beach!
Great small hotel on a great beach. Beach frontnrooms worth the extra money. Restaurant great for breakfast and lunch. Nearby restaurants more fun for dinner.
Almost great
We were in rm. 17 which was right on the beach. We were there four nights. The staff was comprised of intelligent, thoughtful people who we liked very much. The food at the hotel was very good and there are restaurant on the road which are world-class. These are very minor issues, but I wish they'd give you more than 2 towels for the room. They definitely need to work on the doors into the rooms… the screen doors are hanging off their hinges and you have to lift and slam things shut to keep the bugs out. The housekeeping staff that comes by in the evening lights a candle in the room, but doesn't straighten the bed or offer fresh towels which I thought was sub par for a place boasting such a high rating and high prices. So it's certainly not perfect, but it's location is hard to beat. I suspect we would go back, but I would request that housekeeping attend at least briefly to the rooms while you're out to dinner.
Relaxing comfy place with great service
The rooms were very spacious and looked out over the ocean. Very friendly staff.
Great stay and great staff
Such a nice location and nice hotel. Staff was great. Only issue was the continuous use of a generator near our room - please upgrade to wind or other alternative energy source. We really enjoyed our stay.
Overrated
The post it's beatiful but I think it's overrated. It's the only place in Tulum that you eat bad... And when you arrive you must have your reservation printed, and nobody told you before. Because they don't have it. I like tulum but my next vacations I rather choose another hotel.
Very nice boutique hotel in Tulum/Bocas Pailas
I stayed at Hip Hotel for 5 days and everything was really great!. Since I arrived the hotel, Pablo (reception) made me feel at home as well as the guys who work in the restaurant (Moises, Andres, Nelly and Sonia). Although the beach had lot of seaweeds, the hotel staff was always cleaning the sand during the mornings. I wish someone could find the main cause of the presence of seaweeds in order to solve the problem and return the turquoise color of Tulum´s waters. The rooms do not have air conditioner. However if you open the windows during the night you can feel the breeze from the sea. The temperature was never below 26 Celsius degrees at night and it was not necessary to have air conditioner to sleep well.
Nice place to relax and enjoy the beach.
My stay was just for a weekend but it felt like I was there for a week! It was awesome and enough to recharge my batteries. The room was right on the beach with a direct view to the beach. The only thing was that the weather was real hot & humid and there was no A.C. in the room which made it a little tough to sleep at night but it was not a big deal. The service at the restaurant was a little slow but the food was pretty good. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others who are looking for a place to just relax and get away from it all.
Steps away from the beach!!
Couldn't of stayed anywhere better. Affordable, clean, great staff and loved being in a authentic small town.
Magical Tulum
We had the pleasure of spending a week in Tulum. The staff the the Hip Hotel couldn't have been nicer, the food was amazing, the beach was perfect and the location was great. We rented bikes since we were a bit father down from some of the more popular restaurants and shops that you'll read about, but it was a nice walk. I recommend bikes for longer trips up the beach to the ruins. Our view was magical and the hammock was a great touch. The shower was also huge, which is nice when you want to hang your swinsuits and shower with plenty of room. We will certainly stay here again!
Nice hotel
We went at the end of April and were concerned about the no air conditioning, but our ocean side room had a cool breeze all day and was very comfortable. The restaurant was nice and reasonably priced. The beach had large waves, but was fun for swimming. Our room had screens on all the windows and we had no issues with bugs in the room. We had electricity with several normal outlets for charging cell phones. Lovely stay and very relaxing!
Lovely hotel in a great spot
Our stay at Hip Hotel was great while we were in Tulum for a wedding. Our room was oceanfront and was huge compared to the rooms our friends had in other hotels. Our room was very clean and comfortable. It was oceanfront so we woke up to a fabulous view every day. No a/c is needed as the breeze at night was great and the room was meant to have all the windows/doors open to let it in. There was a variety of beach furniture including cabanas, lounge chairs with hut shade, couches, tables and chairs, etc. The restaurant was great and the staff was lovely and accommodating. The hotel is in a better part of "the strip" in my opinion.
Great Visit
The place was great. Had an inviting warmth through the staff and amenities. Don't expect a hammock just because it's in the pictures. I'd go back in a second.
Small comfortable hotel right on the beach
My husband and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the Hip Hotel Tulum which was lovely. The room was very clean and spacious and looked out on to the beach. Breakfast was included and set you up for the day,was much more than the continental breakfast I was expecting. staff were very friendly and helpful. Internet access is limited to use in the reception area and dining room which can get quite busy. There are a lot of restaurants and bars within easy walking access and many more if you are willing to drive. If you like small intimate quiet hotels then you will love the Hip Hotel. We would definitely return.
Beautiful Views right on the Beach
Spent 4 nights here at Hip Hotel in the Superior King - Ocean View Room #14. The hotel sits on an amazing part of the beach. There is no A/C in the rooms, but if you have an Ocean View Room, there is a breeze that comes off the water at night that keeps you cool enough for sleeping. It was gorgeous to wake up to the sunrise each morning, and to be able to see the sky change from dark red to morning light in view of the water. Having no cell service, no tv's, and spotty wifi was just the exact type of vacation i was looking for. Plan for an amazingly relaxing vacation if staying at Hip Hotel.
Tulum Wedding
Although the staff at the Hip Hotel are truly very nice, especially front desk-Cinthia, Durcell and Maria, what you pay for and expect, is not always what you're going to get. I paid for a 'superior' room, which according to their website would've included a deck, hammock and some kind of a view. What I got instead was upstairs unit with none of the above, and a view of street/construction. I said something right away but the answer I got was, they were completely full, and that since the hotel had not yet been paid by expedia, they couldn't do anything for me. Not a good way to start. Also: Have plenty of Pesos in smaller bills with you. You CAN use U.S. dollars, but that comes with it's own constant issues. Some events and restaurants are cash only. LOTS of ATM's, but didn't use so don't know the charge/risk. Local food is above average, but always comes at U.S. prices. If you want to experience the 'cenotes' dive, (recommended) skip the one called Tercer Cielo. You'll pay $250P and not want to get in the water. Take mosquito spray and ointment. You'll be glad you did.
Great Time at the Hip Hotel
We stayed here the first week of Feb. We had an ocean view room, which is a must! From this room, you basically walk out directly on to the beach and you get a good ocean breeze. Te breeze is important because there is NO AC. The room were furnished nicely. You can expect a few small insects like ants, mosquitos, or lizards. It was not a big deal at all and you expect pretty much the same from any other hotel in Tulum unless you are staying at a big resort. There is some seaweed that washes up on the beach every day but they try to rake it up as fast as possible. This is the same all the way up the coast, so most hotels will do the same. The food at the restaurant was good and the staff was helpful. We realized we forgot a couple of items after we checked out and they kept them for us for a couple of days before we were able to get back and retrieve them.
Beach was fantastic, facilities so-so
We were only there 3 1/2 days and our room was so-so, towels were very good, water pressure was excellent, lighting poor (as it usually is in Mexico). Overall a rather ordinary hotel.
