Very nice property- on a hill in quiet area of Taupō. Beds were very comfortable. Room has nice terrace and table-pool and sauna area were nice.

We were upgraded to a junior suite, but the room decor significantly lacked character. Lots of empty-waisted space made the room seem bare and uncared. Facilities and the rest of the hotel looked very nice

Nice hotel

Good location. Upgraded our room on arrival which was a pleasant surprise.

Room size is good,pool is nice,breakfast not bad.

Info option on TV did not work, so hotel missed out on room orders. Checkout staff could be a bit friendlier.

Overall a lovely place to stay but not without some issues. We booked a junior suite which was very spacious but had a small bathroom which was a bit disappointing compared to the size of the other spaces. There is a great text service which goes straight to reception and they get back immediately and answered our questions or brought us what we needed. Fridge is a good size and both kettle and coffee machine with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar and fresh milk sachets in fridge. Sadly our TV did not work properly and we could not access the guest info but reception sent through the room service menu to our room instead. Breakfast is good and has lots of choice, plus you could also order off a menu. The wait is quite long for this service but delicious once it arrived. We stayed for 3 nights and every morning at 9.59am we were reminded that breakfast was finishing and we all felt they were trying to rush us out even though they only brought our ordered food at 9.50am one morning having waited 25 mins. They ran out of English Breakfast tea in the restaurant and the next morning said they still did not have any as the delivery was later that day, poor planning. The pool and spa pool are wonderful. Excellent for both adults and children. Very well kept and clean, lots of staff around tending to the garden and all very friendly. Room service was excellent but sadly the restaurant was not. Very long wait and overall food looks good but was quite bland. Nice hotel but not 5 star!

Great View

Nice one bedroom apartment, really big, great view and well equipped. Nice pool

We have stayed at this Hilton several times as our go to in Taupo and this experience was disappointing. Whomever is managing the property is letting it down we think. Check in not till 4pm, still servicing our room at 6.45pm the following night, we had had a long day and just wanted to relax, overcharged for parking initially, decor in rooms is tired and needs updating. For the price this hotel charges it needs to invest in the experience. Still has comfortable beds which is a plus. We will be trying somewhere else next time.

the food was great location as well wine selection rooms a good size as was the bathrooms comfy bed staff were great we enjoyed our stay very much

Spacious apartments with a lovely view!

Overall we had a nice stay at the hotel. We did however have to wait for nearly an hour after check in time for our room to be available.

The staff was very helpful.

Our room had seen better days. There were numerous scratches, dents, marks on the walls. The room was very large but had very little furniture which was in poor condition. There was no shelving or drawersfor clothes. The common area to elevator was also in less than ideal condition. It would have been nice if there was somewhere to purchase snacks in the hotel as it was not near any shops.

I do not recommend booking this hotel through hotels.com. On arrival I was told I had booked the basic room, no mention of this on the hotels.com website just listed as a king size room. Receptionist told me these rooms were all ground floor and faced away from the lake. Not much of a welcome, had to ask how to get to the room, offered no help with the luggage. Room was fine but door banged each time someone entered the shared corridor. Car parking is a mess unless you pay for additional parking charge to park in the secured car park, still with a disclaimer that cars are left at your own risk. One day room was not made up by 4pm requested a service and this was not done by 5pm! So cancelled the cleaning. There appear to be a lot better options to stay in Taupo.

Great all in one hotel.

Great facilities and friendly staff. We had a great stay. Used the onsite tennis court and outdoor heated swimming pool. Great breakfast selection.

We absolutely loved this hotel - my kids want to move here now. Friendly staff, beautiful property (rooms, common areas looked like they should be in a magazine), lovely and fun pool and hot tub area that a lot of people enjoyed of all ages, large rooms with plenty of space to relax, fantastic breakfast buffet (fresh honey, lots of egg / meat / baked sweets options, juices, fresh fruit galore, etc.) It's at the top of a hill so not right in Taupo, but that worked out even better - it's very quiet and just a short drive or brisk walk down to town. Plenty of free parking at the hotel. Views in all directions were very nice (we had a view of a canyon/park). It's safe, relaxing and felt like fantastic value-for-money given the superior service and offerings of the hotel. Everything was in great condition in the room and hotel.

The room was nicely equipped and very comfortable. The staff was unhosptiable. Telling us to come back at 3:00 to check and not having a clue where to out us when we arrived at 3:45 and just nit nice through the whole encounter. We booked for three and we went to turn in found no sheets for the pull out. They didn’t answer the front desk phone and when I went down answered with a well ‘sort it out’. No answer as to when or how. Someone needs to train the staff.

Amazing heated outdoor pool

Location is a little away from the town and lake but just a quick drive to get to and parking is ample all around town and the lake. Rooms were large, bed was comfy but the bathrooms felt a little dated. Seems like they refreshed a few things like the outdoor pool area which was excellent but maybe the rooms will get an upgrade sometime soon!

Overall a great property/experience. Super friendy/accommodating staff.

Only gripe is that since we were prepaid, upon arrival, the checkin staff asked for a credit card but did not specify what for, thinking it was to check everything matched we found out later it was $50 for a bond (which we later got back) but was just made unaware of this at the time.

An excellent hotel, though not within walking distance of much else (except the hot pools next door). Fortunately the on-site restaurant was good (though a bit expensive)

Wonderful stay

Travelled as a family reunion with my sisters. We absolutely loved our 3 bedroom suite. Everything was perfect and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would definitely stay here again!!

Loved the property, it looks grand! We had an awesome room and view. It was a shame we were kept awake with chairs moving, and staff talking and walking around in the restaurant below us at 11pm

Lovely hotel - room was spacious, clean with a comfortable bed and large, well lit bathroom and shower. The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi. It is a short drive from the downtown shopping and restaurant venues.

Swimming pool and spa

The Hilton Lake Taupo was a great hotel for us during our time in Taupo. They graciously accommodated us with a last-minute booking that rescued us from staying in a different hotel we had booked which ended up being bug-infested. The Hilton provided a clean room with a pretty view of the lake, and the staff were all super friendly.

Second visit here. The staff were friendly and helpful. We asked to see the menu for the restaurant and were told it would be on the TV in the room. It wasn't. I ended up walking to the restaurant to get one. Although we booked a King room, the room itself was quite small (NZ$333 per night). In the restaurant our choice of wine was unavailable.We thought the food lacked creativity/style. Ordinary really. Not what we would expect for a higher class hotel. The pool was excellent, and the cleanliness top notch. Stayed this time on the basis of the previous visit, probably would think twice about returning.

Amazing views, rooms and service

Amazing place to stay. Great views and huge rooms with matching balconies. The pool and gym + sauna were well operated and stocked with towels etc. I ate in the restaurant and the food was really good, the staff on reception were warm and friendly and very quick for check in/check out

Property was awesome food was a little disappointing though

Room overall good but getting tired, a fair few marks and chips on walls and corners and scuffed carpet at bathroom door. Bathroom was not cleaned well, with a dirty toilet seat and hairs on the floor. Aside from these was a nice stay but at the price point you would expect better.

The room was ok pretty scuffed up in places, hair in the bathroom. Bed was comfy, the pool and spa were amazing. Toilet paper was super budget and the robes were for tiny people. If it wasn’t for the pool this place would not have been worth it.

Dated property but common areas were in decent shape. The room cleaning standards are poor, mold in showers, dirty dishes, stained walls. Disappointing from a once trusted brand. Staff were nice.

We loved our stay here and will definitely come back. We had the 3 bedroom apartment and it was huge! So good for a family. The kids loved the pool and the breakfast was excellent.

The go-to hotel for our Taupo Marathon trip everytime.

Too nosiy for plumbing and aircon/ heater, didnt get a good sleep. Frontdesk staff can speak better and clear.

An enjoyable environment, everywhere you look is smiles and happiness, from the staff to the other guests.

Very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff

Parking was a distance from our room. Luckily i had a portable hand trolley to get our luggage to and from our room.

The Hotel met our expectations, we loved our room, spacious, lovely decor, bathroom was great. The only improvement required is car parking, which is too far away and not secure. Staff are very helpful and pool, spa and sauna are great.

Great stay and comfy beds but unfortunately my car was broken into and couldn’t drive home due to the damage that was done, but so thankful that the staff in reception were super helpful and accomodating.

Air conditioning was able to be adjusted to suit us and or switched off. Loads of room in the rooms. loved the underfloor heating and that the room was warm on arrival. An early arrival time was accomodated.

We were disappointed with the Hilton in Taupo, we’ve stayed at Hiltons across NZ & overseas and this was easily one of the worst Hiltons. Right from check in there was no where close by to park your car so you needed to carry all of your luggage up the big hill into reception, we then had to carry it to our room which was nothing more than a cheap motel room. There was no air conditioning so we didn’t sleep as the room was too hot, weirdly to get to the room there were so many different hall ways and doors. Breakfast was a let down, it almost felt like they had just fried up dinner from the night before and was so poorly laid out there was no room to move around when trying to get your breakfast. Carpark had to be the biggest disappointment, it was at the bottom of the hill and just a slab of concrete with so many pot holes and puddles. Staff at the reception desk on check in and check out weren’t very friendly, however the two staff members we dealt with at breakfast were great. Room and pool did feel clean. Overall room was in no way worth $330 a night, you can pay less for a motel with a view of the lake right in town

Favourite place to stay in Taupo

Always a nice and comfortable stay. Friendly service, great breakfast, comfortable bed, and fantastic heated pool and spa.

Only one towel per person claiming to be environmentally friendly yet… they don’t have any blankets in the room so we had to have the air-con on all night. Breakfast was good, pool/spa area make the place.

We absolutely loved out stay. Thank you so much to the team at The Hilton. Breakfast and snacks were as delicious as always and our room was immaculate, and I'm a clean freak 😂 The hotel was at capacity and check in took a much longer time than normal, but this was understandable.

Such a lovely hotel, and fabulous views of the lake if you’re lucky enough to see it from your room. Not issue for me was there was noise from the room above me - otherwise no complaints at all

Always a lovely place to stay. Rooms are a good size and well appointed. Love the pool and fitness areas as well. Always my preferred place to stay in Taupō.

Nice sized rooms but a bit out of town.

The price we got was pretty good. The hotel is slightly out of town. Pulling up the driveway it certainly looks marvellous. Unfortunately it was being painted and there was scaffolding in the way. The check in was flawless. No porter. We had three dooways to navigate with the suitcase trolley, not ideal and felt bad bashing in the doors. The room was a good size and the bathroom was very spacious. King bed was very comfortable. Only down side was the the fridge didn't work. The grounds were lovely. The pool was nicely heated. We couldnt see the in house restaurant menu on the TV so we didn't try the restaurant. If your looking for something a bit more upmarket and not close to town for only a few more dollars it is worth a look.

Beautiful property overlooking Lake Taupo in the distance. Our room had a balcony. Bed was superior as was the bathroom. First class!

I couldn’t fault the Hilton Taupo. Lovely spot. The restaurant was really busy and we had to wait for our table, however the manager bought us drinks to make up for this Beautiful food and excellent wine list.

Beware misleading

Very disappointed once we got to our room, we booked a premium room with lake view. Nothing was mentioned during the booking nor was anything at check in. When we got to our room the windows where cover so we could not see out, we opened the balcony door only to find it was covered in scaffolding with a blue mess cover all of our view. The hotel was being painted and we had painters walking across the balcony. We complained at reception and were moved to another room without a view of the lake. We went for breakfast the following day only to find all the windows covered also. No reduction in rate nor any apology. Distrusting that they think this would be OK for a Hilton Hotel…..

Fantastic welcoming staff, excellent facilities.

Reception staff rude and arrogant upon arrival because we had booked through a third party. Female Manager made a big deal about our request that if possible could bed be a king bed, she said this may mean they have to undo the two single beds to push them together as a king bed. In the end they made our “king bed” but laid a queen size mattress protector just under the bottom sheet , not properly secured on the mattress, when we worked out what the lumps were under our sheets we had to pull the bed apart and remove it ourselves. Due to the rude and childish treatment we didn’t stay a second night as planned.

Another unforgettable stay at Hilton Lake Taupo

Our 2nd stay within a month was another top experience of hospitality at Hilton Lake Taupo. Everything was just perfect. The kindness of the staff, the incredible meal for dinner and the stunning room experience incl. views on lake Taupo and the vulcanoes rising up at the horizon.

Blocked out

We opened the curtains of our Lakeview room (booked & paid for 4 months ago) to find the view obscured by scaffolding and blue netting wrapped around the outside of building. A unsigned undated note apologising for the “Inconvenience” was left in room. Nothing was said to us at checkin and no prior notice was given. My comments about the lack of prior notice were ignored and no compensation was offered. While need for ongoing maintenance is understood, some prior warning is good business - not hoping guests will understand or “go away” Food in the restaurant was also lacking as was the service.

Property is under renovations and our “deluxe” room had its view of the lake obscured by scaffolding and workers walking back and forth in front of our window. The room is clean and modern but a bit bland - was hoping for something with some character given this was a historic building. Nice hilltop location but not walkable to restaurants or the lake.

We enjoyed the pool. The room and bed was very comfortable. It was nice to have an outdoor courtyard. The young staff were great and tried to be helpful when we arrived a little bit early by giving us a drink voucher while we waited for our room to be ready. But the senior manager was rude and unhelpful telling her staff not to because we were early. This caused some embarrassment to the staff member which we thought was unprofessional of the manager. The restaurant bar needs some attention but we had a pleasant dining experience with lovely young staff. Overall an average stay.

Great hotel bit out of town. Pool area could have been bigger to cater for the property. Limited chairs and shaded areas. Meals however were outstanding compliments to the chef. Most likely would stay closer to the heart of the town next time.
