Rooms spacious. Close to shops and restuarants. Very helpful staff.
It’s been a week now and I’m still waiting for my $100 deposit to be refunded. 👎
Reeplace the Shower Head please.
The shower head was in a very bad condition. $50 spent at Bunnings to replace it would be a simple solution
Their breakfast is pretty good and has a number of good vegetables continental options
Many homeless around the property. Felt unsafe. Staff were great and the room was ok.
It was a handy short walk to the night markets plenty of food choices around the area for breakfast or dinner
Dark hairs in the bed, sheets were thread bare
The staff were nice enough, however the hotel was only alright. The hallways were unbearably warm and the AC barely kept the room at a reasonable temperture. There were always sketchy things going on around the hotel too... Very loud homeless people
Love staying here, staff always reliable and kind.
Great location - central to all
My stay in this hotel was very pleasant and trouble free, the room are good enough, clean and I would be happy to come back
Great staff
Good Location - Clean and Spacious Rooms
Woupd stay here again
The only issue was the place we stayed was very loud at early hours of the morning and the toilet was constantly dripping or running water.
The staff were amazing, very friendly and helpful
Good
I can highly recommend this Hotel first class.
Wonderful hotel, with great service and attention to detail was high,eg cleaning, towels, flowers, cooking utensils ect
Good location, short walk to shops, attractions.
Good location
Our room was very dirty upon arrival. Our bedsheets had multiple stains and dirt on them…. When we went to talk to the front desk they said they had no cleaning staff available until the next day and no vacant rooms so they just gave us new sheets to put on the bed.
Old hotel with charming history
I stayed there 4 times over a month check in was relatively easy and it was in the price range I wanted to pay it is conveniently located to most things it’s not 5 star but nor is the price I was happy bed was comfortable and I got a good sleep the aircon was already running when I checked in
Best
Its nice close to the city
Check in was pretty quick and easy it was close to everything that I wanted to go to walking
Convenient location, friendly staff
Great service and at Central Point around the city
Good location
Good value and the staff excellent 👍
Definitely the biggest bang for your buck, not much more than a bed in a hostel, definitely one and a half or two times the price, not too bad. It’s definitely nothing special so don’t get your expectations up, but it’s nice to have your own space and air conditioning.
My flight was arriving late, I informed this to reception. I was messaged a code to enter the property. The code was not correct to access the key to my room. It was a terrible experience.
This place really needs to be closed for a month for a complete clean..the carpets were extremely dirty and looked like vomit stains..the fan in the bathroom had crap hanging out of it..
Nice central spot
So close to Shopping only a stone's throw away from cafes and restaurants
Not impressed at all. Felt unsafe and the sheets were dirty as well as a very funny smell. I was supposed to stay for 4 nights, I checked out after the first night.
Close to all conveniences, especially the esplanade which l thought was a real showpiece.
Location 10/10 Service 0/10 I had to work full time while staying at the Hides hotel, and unfortunately the wifi wasn’t working. (Things happens) staff kept telling us someone was looking at it, that’s untrue. We stayed 3 nights and nothing happened. I asked multiple times to cancel our stay as this was affecting my work and I needed wifi and they said « not our problem, it’s free anyway » honestly wished I never came to this place. Made me hate cairns altogether because of the horrible service. I even offered if I could get a credit for the cost that I had to pay in for SIM card. They said multiple times they would talk to their manager, either they did and management doesn’t care, or they didn’t because they knew wifi wouldn’t be fixed anyway. Garbage
Great location, Close to all essential amenities
Very Noisey due to windows with street noise and surrounding pubs, very dated decor, close to all things in the city, great price point
All 3 towels have stain and one looks used before with stain too
Photos looked like a really nice place but it's getting pretty old and could use some TLC. Over priced compared to other accom in the area. Also charge for luggage storage which I haven't seen in a long while.
The location is perfect. City center, central station, transport, aquarium, esplanade etc. All really close by.
It was good for 1 night . It is outdated and a little “grungy” rust /stains in bathroom … hallways not always clean.
You get what you pay for, this place is cheap for a reason. I stayed twice on either end of a dive trip. Both rooms were dirty - one had hair in the shower which was not mine, the other had filthy bedsheets in one bed that did not get changed when I asked the next day. Luckily I could sleep in the other bed. The shower in my second room didn't really work. The handles were outside of the shower and getting it to stay a consistent warm temperature was impossible. It was either freezing or burning, and you had to jump in and out of the water while it was transitioning between those states. My second room only had a frosted window, so one couldn't see outside at all. Then the luggage storage was a bit of a pain. Many of the lockers were out of order, one ate my money and staff were unsympathetic. The lockers only accept $2 coins, but staff don't have any change on hand and will vaguely point you towards a back. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If you're broke, stay at a hostel. Skip this dive.
Not at all family friendly in the evenings especially
The hotel had some unknown people who tried to knock on our door, a guy wearing a baseball cap with a red flower dress knocking on the door in the evening. The shower was bad, water temperature was very had to adjust. Also, the water volume is very low and hard to close, making the shower almost impossible, The aircon of room 231 did not generate any cool air. However, the staff members were very sincere and helpful though. love the location and convenience.
This seemed to be a hotel for young people staying up all night. The walls are thin adam’s people were coming and going at all hours. The shower did not have enough pressure to work properly either. Other than that it was everything we expected for the price we paid.
Convenient location in the CBD.
Staff were so helpful, really go out of their way to help sort out any problems. Well done.
The lift was scary. None of the keys worked very well. Had to wiggle and giggle keys to open doors. The paid parking was very tight. I was in room 106 on 1st floor. Could hear the lift all night plus everyone going up and down stairs. The view. Well there was none except a tin roof. The staff were nice and breakfast was good for the price.
Not able to check in early Very noisy with youths running up and down the hallway until 9:30pm Location is quite handy to everywhere. Unfortunately there were a high number of heavily intoxicated people in the streets fighting, yelling, urinating etc
A walk to everything
So close to the centre of town and everything you want is just a short walk
The property is very old and not well maintained
Pool area
After completing a packaged tour, I needed a reasonably priced and convenient accommodation in Carins before an early bus, so chose Hides as it was close to Cairns Railway Station. My checkin experience was soured slightly as the reception would not accept "tap and go" cards for the deposit, unlike all other hotels. Once I got into the room, I was quite impressed with the facilities, especially with the bed side lamps with in-built USB charging, The room itself was spacious and comfortable, more than acceptable for an overnight stay. The location is convenient to shopping and cafes in the city. Overall would stay again.
We loved the position of the hotel with easy walking distance to the shops, Esplanade, night and Rusty Markets etc. Also our room was bigger and better than expected and the staff were always very obliging and helpful !!
It would have been a great hotel but is a bit run down now
Great affordable hotel at the heart of Cairns CBD. Will be back
There were small roaches in my room and the wifi was unreliable.
Bathrooms lack a basic thing like a towel rail. Shower was either boiling hot or freezing cold.
The hotel conditions fits the price!
Great location
Bedsheets needed cleaning upon arrival, air conditioner was leaking, and puddles of water across the floor of the room
Love hides.
Thank you
Thank you for the stay…. Hope you have a room available next time I am in town…
There is serious pest issues at the property. Cockroaches inside the room coming out the bathroom. Old facility.
The room was OK and met our needs but the common areas were grungy. I would probably opt to pay more and stay in a nicer hotel if I came back to the area.
Ok location, rundown.
In dire need of repair and cleanliness. Dirty linens to begin and a roach invasion to end our stay! Still awaiting the hotel manager to contact us regarding this stay, which we cut short due to the roaches. Please make this right with us
Close to everything
Very happy with the room we had with a central location easy to walk around. Wonderful brekky in the mornings!
Arrived in the evening after flying in. Parking is definitely a challenge with street parking only available. The lobby looks a little dodgy but the interior of the hotel was surprisingly freshly painted and clean
Great place a mixture of old and new
Location is great. Wi-fi terrible. Friendly staff. Room mantenance needs improvement
Location is the best with this hotel. Wi-fi is very poor . Room maintenance is on the sad side. Employees are kind.
Easy to book but disappointed in variation of pricing - I paid double via Expedia than if I booked via standby. Room was smelly and very average - not very comfortable Position was central to town - off street parking available
close to everything
This is an okd buiding with cold hard floors, unfunctioning humidity extractors in the bathroom and toile, and had false fire alarms waking you up in the night (2 in five days).
Nice hotel
Checkin staff rude and unhelpful. Long line of people waiting to check in at 2:00pm, probably because we were refused checkin 15 minutes early creating a backlog. People infront of us told room not ready. Worst service at a hotel I’ve ever received. Will not be back.
Everything in the hotel was quite old. The bed was super squeaky and not comfortable at all. Also, the room was not very well sound proof. We could hear the next room persons talking while they were not even trying to be loud. The only great thing about this hotel is the location!
Great location. Handy to everything. Good value breakfast if a bit basic and great to sit outside on balcony. Reception at times felt like a hostel with some staff a little unfriendly and officious and people sitting around waiting. Disappointing to have to wait to specified check in time rather than being offered the room when actually ready. Overall a good spot for a short stay.
Filthy
Gentleman that checked us in was helpful but it went downhill from there. Killed a Roach in the bathroom, mold on the a/c unit, stained towels, filthy air return, debris on the mattress pad. If we hadn't of arrived so late, we would have gone elsewhere.
Needs maintenance and improvement
Pros: -Room didn't have noise nearby -Bed was comfortable -Hot water worked well Cons: -Wifi did not work at all -Aircon was broken when entering room and they made us wait an hour to change room -Staff and maintenance weren't very friendly or helpful in fixing the problems in this hotel -Freezer door cover was missing -Bathroom exhaust fan didn't work and was covered in about 5 years worth of dust -Some very dodgy people hang around this street outside the hotel making it not the safest place
The See on the Window was not nice i can‘t see somsing
The women provided excellent service.
Hide looked pretty rough on the outside and in the foyer. Fair go though the building isn't young. The room has been renovated nicely and the bed was comfy. I've let the hotel know that the sink tap was dripping and leaking into the vanity cupboard. During the night there was a persistent low sounding mechanical banging noise.
Price and conveniently located.
Historic hotel in heart of shopping district. Well kept, interesting history is displayed on a plaque within hotel. Staff were not knowledgeable about surrounding area. I asked two different staff members multiple questions about area north of Cairns and neither could answer any of them.
On arrival we were told $100 deposit for your room key and $10 per day parking staff were friendly room was clean ver convenient to walking everywhere
Excellent location! Room was clean! Downside was the walls were paper thin, you could hear everything in rooms next door!
Nice hotel with good location in Cairns
3 star hotel with very good location
As far as budget accommodation goes, this hotel is okey, the facilities and the room is very average (understand poor) but the location is great ! Only if the lady at the front desk could possibly be a little more friendly than a correction officer… although the bedding was nice 👍
Basic room
Basic room
All good at Hides.
Not worth the money, much better options are available in the same area with slightly higher rates. The lady at the front desk was not friendly at all. The gentleman however was welcoming. Wouldn't recommend unless you are ok sharing your room with cockroach and lizards.
The accomodation is located in a very convenient place. Everything is very close. Although not fancy, my room was quiet clean.

Not the first time I stayed at Hides and definitely won't be the last. I always opt to stay at Hides whenever I'm needing a room in the city area/s. Always my first preference. Although!!! take note of the times for free parking, otherwise that parking spot will chew at your holiday budget!
