Well equipped kitchen
I stayed in a shared room with 20 beds but only like 5 other people actually there. It was pretty chill, great location and access to lots of restaurants and downtown Auckland right there. Lots of lockers including under my bottom bunk, just used my own lock and had no issues with it. Showers nice and hot, very clean space overall. Great big kitchen and the staff was awesome. Would stay here or another haka lodge again for sure!
I had a great stay at the Haka Lodge. I have no complaints with the facility. Everything was clean. It was close to so many restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. It was easy and convenient to get to the city or CBD as the bus is right in front of the Lodge. When our light fixtures wouldn’t work in two areas of the room, the staff as prompt in finding a way to fix it. I would say that I found the area safe. Where I come from, our homelessness and addiction situation is so bad, that walking around K road at night as two females was not uncomfortable and super easy as there are always people around. It can get noisy at night, but it’s the nature of being on a busy road. They also have a code to get into the Lodge to add security and peace of mind. I would have stayed longer if they had more room. I will say that if you wish to party, this is not the hostel for you. Everyone was very quiet, polite, and kept to themselves.
The staffs are all nice and the hostel it’s cute and nice !
Mid town covenience.
Clean
Good place to stay
It is located about 15-20 minutes walk (or take a bus if know the bus route - the bus stop is right in front) from the main bus stop (Sky City) from the airport.
This is a great place to stay, staff are nice and friendly always willing to help. Bathrooms and kitchen get cleaned regularly which is good to see. The street isn't the nicest of places but as long as you don't interact with the crazies they don't usually bother you. I had a good time meeting a bunch of people here and would definitely go back.
The beds are comfortable
Sat in reception upon arrival for 45 mins while two incompent "night managers" spoke in a random language messing my booking around. They then tried to palm me off into a room with more people which was less than what i paid for. Upon returning to rwception i spent another 15 mins waiting for an outcome. I was told if i wanted to leave i could have a partial refund...what a joke. It was then discovered a person in the room id booked has overstayed 2 nights. When rhey were finally moce they refused to even change the sheets. Finally after they did change them when i entered the room i was hassled by other room users "why did you make our friend move". Disgusting mangement behaviour and such a shiz experience for a night away in the city. Upon returning from the concert i missed some of due this hold up, the room entrance was wide up and a key was in the door. Beyond a joke.
Great location in terms of proximity to restaurants. ~15 min walk from Intercity bus drop and 30 min walk from the water. Friendly staff, quiet. Great room!
The hostel is great however try request a room that isn't facing k road as the street noise was unbelievably loud and I didn't get any sleep. The bunk bed was very comfortable, great quality pillow with protector on it, cosy and not creaky. The bathroom was clean and towel provided in each individual toilet/sink. Free WiFi, no lift, so had to carry up heavy bag up the stairs but that's ok for me, maybe not for others.
Too Small for Comfort
Starting with the positives, the staff at the Haka Lodge was friendly, responsive to emails, and made our late check in easy. Our room was decent and the heater was powerful. Unfortunately, one of the main reasons we stayed here was to have access to common spaces like a kitchen and lounge. These weren't really usable as there are A LOT of long term guests at this time and the area is too small to accommodate them all. The fridges and food storage areas were overflowing and were not cleaned while we were there (the fridges supposedly get cleaned on Wednesdays but the curdled milk that expired a month before was still there when we checked out.) When we asked about the state of things we were told to just "try and find a spot" for our stuff. If you are a WHV holder looking for a place to meet people and find a job, this may be a great place for you. If not, you may be disappointed. On a related note, because there are so many people around all the time the WiFi isn't really fit for purpose. Made things difficult as I couldn't even pull up google maps or check my mail.
honestly the most cleanest, nicest hostel i've ever stayed in. staff are lovely too
Great receptionists, really lovely and helpful. The room I stayed in was a pigsty, someone must have been staying long term and thier stuff was everywhere. Someone had stolen my pillow so I had to go and track down a staff member to try and get another one, lucky the staff member was awesome and found one for me. Bathrooms ok, kitchen pretty good.
Haka family!
I love this place, so much so I booked more nights. The staff go above and beyond to help you and give great advice. I liked the privacy of the curtain on the bed. The place was spotless and there were always cleaners daily! There was free food that travellers left which was much appreciated!
Good place to stay near the centre on a budget. For a hostel it is excellent. I was disappointed to find stained sheets, however they promptly replaced them once flagged. The family room is great with a queen bed on one side and bunk on the other. Bathroom is in the middle. So there is a little bit of privacy for each room. My kids loved the bank had curtains. We didn’t use the kitchen much, but put some stuff in the fridge.
Centrally located in auckland. Steps from the bus line.lots of eateries, pubs, markets in walking distance. Secure entrance to property.
Ótimo hostel , organizado e limpo. Perfeito para ficar em auckland mesmo assim seja em um quarto com várias pessoas . Cama cama tem uma cortina.
Terrible comma beforehand, mixed messages from hostel about towels & lockers. Arrival was fine even though front desk was closed before 830pm..inna big city just wow. Walls paper thin, noise from kitchen after allowed time, hear people talking on the stairs after midnight. Sunday morning front desk girl was lovely to chat to and sorted everything for. Pre booking assistant manager needs to learn email equite.
Loud music playing nearby
Very ordinary no frills stay No breakfast facility U can veing your own food Lot of noise at night from nearby bars et al and loud music till 2 AM
Location was perfect as we were across the road at a club till 4am. Plus our friends were staying next door.
Great location, central & within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Staff had good recommendations as to what to do around town.
We booked for 2 nights in an ensuite double room. After pulling back the sheets we discovered hair, bits of fluff and a fingernail. Clearly the bedding was not changed from previous guests. We left after 1 night -- no refund.
Overall, loved it! Very clean and organised. Perhaps stagger the cleaning times of showers though; 8am for all showers to be disabled while being cleaned seems like a bad time of day). Kitchen has everything you'd need and lounge and tv room are separate, so when I wanted to zone out I could in the tv room.
Parking was a problem and turned out to be very expensive even though the hostel was a considerable distance from the downtown harbour front area.
Didn’t like creeky room door. Love the room, bedsand kitchen and the reception girls, great chat and informative
Great rooms, love the wooden beds - staff very helpful
I love the look and feel of the rooms, the wooden beds are great. The staff are brilliant and incredibly helpful, particularly the Dutch girl!
Noise place
The room facing to the main street are really noise. You can't get a good sleep because of the vehicle and pub sound. The lodge's doors also make a big sound whenever they are closed.
Right on K road, close by to plenty of food; 15 minute walk into city centre, helpful stuff, free wifi. Not the most flashy of places, although still perfectly clean and functional, but easily the best value for money so close to the city.
You have your own privacy which is nice, great location as well
Had private room. Great bed. mini sink and good shower. Most of the staff was very friendly ( but not all ) Very convenient location in the city. Felt safe!
Overall, a good place for backpacker to stay
A bit noisy from streets on weekend nights, but the staffs are kind and helpful. The bed is clean, the shower rooms are clean.
The hostel was in a good location and had everything we needed for our stay.
The mattresses have been really comfy and I liked the curtains a lot! The bathroom was clean, that's a plus! However, I would have the Hostel preferred to be a bit more central.
Decent overall for the money
We stayed in a private double with a shared bathroom. The room was a good size, well decorated and the bed was comfortable. There were plenty of toilets and showers to use and I never had to wait to access either. Generally they were clean. The hostel itself is on K’s road which has plenty of shops and bars. It is a nice 25 minute stroll to the harbour. The only real issue is the WiFi did not work.
Comfortable
Very comfortable
nice hostel, great location, best way to travel alone or small group
Fair
Good location close to Ponsonby and Queen Street. Clean kitchen, good facilities.
Highly recommended!
A few dollars more expensive than the other hostels in the area but definitely worth it. Super clean, comfortable beds, great amenities such as a spotless kitchen and good laundry service. Good WiFi as well. Highly recommended!
Excellent hostel!
Very nice hostel. Super clean, friendly staff and great amenities. Kitchen is great, good location as well. Can definitely recommend even though there may be slightly cheaper options, totally worth it.
U.S. family trip to New Zealand
Traveled from Washington DC. After the long flight, we were happy to find a clean, private room for our family of 4. Friendly staff. Kitchen was well organized for guest sharing. Right in the middle of lots of good restaurants. Walked to Auckland Skytower and up Mt. Eden (bring water, lol!) Cool city!
We loved the location - It is on K-Road which is a great street with so many good local eating choices and walkable to the wharf. We didn't use the kitchen so can't comment on that - I usually try and stay places where breakfast is included so that was one drawback as there was no breakfast although we didn't have to go far to find great coffee.
Great hostel! Had the double room with the shared bathroom and both were incredibly clean and comfortable. Location was right in the middle of things and very convenient. Would definitely recommend Haka Lodge Auckland and would stay there again.
Great place, just a very short walk from the bus stop when getting in to the city from the airport and only another short walk to the main bus stop when leaving the city. Friendsly staff, clean and comfortable place to stay. I’ll definitely stay there when I’m back in Auckland and I’ll be trying the other Haka places out around New Zealand over the coming weeks.
clean, organized and friendly - was all good fo us
Enjoyed my stay and was easy enough to get to Sky Tower (15 min walk) and the harbour (25/30 min)
Adequate and excellent bathroom facilities, modern comfortable room, will definitely be staying here again
sometimes when I cant get a room at haka hotel I will stay at the lodge. its ok. private room with bathroom. very basic. Often quite cheap. Wifi is poor at both Haka places
Stay here
This place was amazing. It set the bar high for everywhere else that we stayed. Our room was quiet and clean. The bathrooms were immaculate and the kitchen was super clean and organized. The staff was helpful and on top of everything. Be aware that there is no elevator, but that is minor. The location is decent and you can walk most places or catch a bus about 10 feet away. Really enjoyed our stay.
Cleanest hostel I’ve ever stayed in
I was amazed at how clean this hostel was. Fresh towels and bins emptied in the bathrooms on what seemed like an hourly basis. We had a lovely shared bathroom private room which was hotel standard with an extremely comfortable mattress. If only all hostels were up to this standard....would highly recommend and hope to stay in a Haka Lodge again soon.
Great Stay
First time at a hostel, so wasn't sure what to exactly expect. This place was so clean and quiet. It worked out great. The staff was amazingly helpful. The bathroom and kitchen were bright and spotless. Probably spoiled on hostels forever now.
Very clean and a great location - would definitely stay here again.
Excellent!
Situated in the trendy k road area near to plenty of pubs and restaurants and cafes. Clean hostel with lovely showers and nice privacy curtains on beds
very chill and accommodating
Clean, Comfortable, Central. Excellent!
Haka Lodge are fantastic. A superb welcome to Auckland, they're a great place to stay. Civilised and incredibly clean they provide a relaxed and comfortable environment. The bunks are cosy but very comfortable and could only be even nicer with two pillows on the bed. This was a wonderful place to begin my adventure in NZ.
SATISFACTORY: For budget-saving travellers
Overall, it was a nice stay for a night at Haka Lodge Auckland. Staffs welcomed me when check-in, which was helpful during my stay. Especially, I liked the black curtain beside each bed, keeping my privacy even in the backpacker. Plus, toilets, Kitchen and beds are quite clean. P.S. Sound-proof appliances should be installed for the guests to be able to enjoy their stays. Except this, everything is satisfying.
Great value on k road
While this is a back packers it also has nice studios with nice ensuite. Happy with our private studio room..location is perfect
i won't stay anywhere else
was blown away by the quality of my stay! i am not a backpacker but like to take a cheaper option when travelling. i treated myself to a double, private room and was super delighted to find it was beyond the quality of even some hotels. the facilities were in great condition and i didn't feel gross or like the showers and bathrooms had been neglected like you can do at some backpackers. also appreciated that they use eco friendly toilet paper, etc. also extra points for the beautiful art around the place. thank you haka lodge!
I only stayed one night, but it did exactly what I needed. A comfortable bed, hot shower and not too far from the bus station.
Nice hotel in center of main strip
- Hotel is very close to everything in Auckland town - no elevators so if you have heavy luggage you would need to carry it up, if you need to store luggage until check in or check out you would have to carry downstairs in basement - room is very nice and clean - bathroom sink is size of your hand (very small) - lounge area to hang out with everyone is very nice
A NICE COMFORTABLE STAY
we dont normally go for hostel type, but this one is.exceptional...service was amazing .and clean
Great budget stay in Auckland
I enjoyed my stay at Haka Lodge during my week in Auckland. It's one of the better hostels that I've stayed at, overall feels new and clean. I stayed in a room with 7 beds, which can feel cramped if fully occupied, but that's to be expected (You do have a privacy curtain at least). Great location on K street, with tons of restaurants nearby and about 20 minute walk from the city center. My only gripe is no elevators, so I had to lug my luggage up a couple flights of stairs, but other than highly recommended!
Good value
Arrived before 8am on a Saturday and were allowed to leave baggage in a storage area as checkin is from 2pm. Located on the busy 'K' road so the noise may be a problem for some, especially at the weekend. Stayed in a spacious twin room with comfortable beds which was all we required
I really liked the hostel, really nice staff and people there. My only complaint was a lack of AC
Private double room with shared bathroom
The lodge was very clean and tidy, with good shared facilities. 20-25mins walk from city centre and good value for money compared with hotel/motel accommodation. Will stay again and highly recommend!
This was my first experience in a hostel and I was really impressed. The cleanliness of the facilities was really good, the staff were really helpful and it was in a good location.
Not a bad experience!
This was my first time staying in a hostel accommodation and overall I really loved the experience. I am under the impression that Haka Lodge is right at the top end of hostel accommodation with many features which enhance the quality of your stay. The best part is the beds with the curtains, as well as the lights and powerpoint. These made me feel as though I had all my own space and privacy. My main concern for this hostel was the location which is quite a long walk from the skybus and intercity bus stops, especially with a large backpack. This meant that I ended up spending a fair bit of money on uber rides, essentially adding to the cost of my stay here. Also, while the receptionists were friendly, they were not very helpful in assisting me with planning activities for the duration of my stay in Auckland.
Convenient location; very clean; friendly staff
For a backpacker lodge, it was extremely clean and the unlimited free wi-fi was really handy. The staff were helpful and friendly. If anything, I would swap the shower and toilet cubicles. The shower spaces are quite small, whereas the toilets are a small room. Having a curtain and two power outlets per bed made charging my phone and camera simple. The lodge itself if next to a Citylink bus stop, so commuting to Queen Street is easy. Otherwise, for those who would normally forgo a backpacker lodge,I recommend considering Haka Lodge.
I had a really good experience with this accommodation. Loved the location and the facilities of this place.
