Friendly staff
Wonderful!
It was amazing. I used to live a block away from this hotel, and just love the vibe of the old time architecture, and all of it's unique features. Hotel is very clean and accommodating! This is the only hotel I want I want to personally book in San Francisco.
Great
We’ve stayed at the Grant previously and had no hesitation about booking again. It’s an old fashioned San Francisco hotel in a good location. The rate was reasonable and a plus point was complimentary breakfast pastries, plus tea and coffee throughout the day.
Amazing staff. Very accommodating and polite. I left my keys at the hotel and they helped me get them back to Sacramento. The sushi spot next door was great also. I recommend the black and white roll.
No name
I won’t stay there anymore. Because I got bits from my bed, and I had found a bug on the bedsheet. I didn’t take photo, because I was busy tried to kill it
I'd go back here again!
The only thing awry was that the bathroom door knob was loose, Everything was very clean!
Hotel felt a little dated for the price but was clean. Staff at reception were friendly Good pastries available in the mornings and hot drinks available all day
The location is good, and it is convenient for walking around.
Very convenient, access to all public transport. The toilet doesn’t flush when we first check in but they fix it right away, they have assortment of pastries and coffee for breakfast. Can’t complain!
Property was cool, stayed there for a braves and giants game , Uber was no more than $13 from location, lots of bars around and things to do, malls in walking locations
We always stay here when attending a concert at The Masonic. We come up from Monterey. It is always what we expect, it is simple and basic, but always clean, and the staff are great. The yummy breakfast (included), doesn't hurt either. The parking right across the street is convenient and the staff there are also great. Then we just take a Uber to the concert. Win, win!
Staffs are friendly and helpful. I really like that they offer all day coffee and tea, and pastries for breakfast. We were also allowed to checked in early as the room was already availbale and there was also an option to leave your things when its not time.to checked in yet and room is not yet available.
Clean, quiet, solid hotel near union square
Wonderful place in the city. Quiet, clean, comfortable. One of only a handful of hotels in the city who do not require a credit card or cash deposit. The staff is attentive. They have tea coffee 24 hours a day as well as an ice machine that dispenses “hospital” ice you can crunch on in the lobby. Decor is simple, bed comfortable, shower heads spray hard and get you squeaky clean. Everything works as it should in the room. Daily housekeeping service without request. A 12pm checkout time affords you that last luxurious hour many hotels no longer offer. Located at the edge of Nob Hill and just a couple blocks away from Union Square, it’s one of my favorite places to stay in the city as it’s in a cleaner part of the city than many other hotels. But be prepared to walk uphill to get back to the room from many sightseeing areas.
Excellent location in San francisco. Very clean, pastries in the morning, and walkable. Compared to areas around, felt very safe. Stayed here with a group of kids and we didn’t have any problems.
Great price and option for a simple stay to come and enjoy the city
The Grant is a very good option for a cheaper room in San Francisco. Helpful staff, clean rooms and convenient location.
Fantastic breakfast with lots of different types of yummy pastries. We stayed two nights, went to Yosemite for a night, then returned for another night at Grant Hotel. The staff were happy to hold our luggage for us (chained to a post in the reception area) while we were at Yosemite which was very handy, and it was also just a 5 minute walk to our tour bus departure point. The rooms were lovely and location was good.
Safe area a few blocks from Chinatown in one direction and Union Square in another, and just a few buildings away from a cable car stop. We didn’t see any homeless people on this road during our 3 night stay (but we saw many as we approached Union Square, however no one made us feel unsafe.) We asked for quiet rooms and were checked into a room on the side of the building overlooking a wall (which was what we wanted rather than traffic noise). However for light sleepers like me, please note that the walls within the hotel are very thin and we could hear the people above us having conversations till 2am the first two nights of our stay, and a baby crying elsewhere in the building. The rooms are spacious and overall I would recommend.
Reasonably priced option in San Francisco close to Union Square. We had a lovely, friendly helpful staff member on check in who ensured our rooms were adjoining and gave us tips on where to eat out. Another nice staff member allowed us to take extra breakfast as we weren’t sure if breakfast would be out before our early morning tour the next day.
Good room. Reasonable cost. Staff were helpful
Excellent value hotel
Value for money hotel near Union Square in San Francisco. Well located and walkable to many attractions. Pastries provided in the morning are varied and tasty.
Great location and Staff. Very close to the Moscone Center and Union Square. Excellent option.
Good location and value for money. Staff friendly
Friendly staff. Clean room. Coffee and snacks in the morning. Nearby everything.
We stopped here for an overnight before our cruise. Nothing fancy but adequate. The room was clean and the bed was good. Had to run the hot water for a bit because it appeared rusty, but it did clear.
A convenience hotel for tourists
Some of staff were nice but some of them were not
Great location and clean
We stayed for four nights, as a family of three. The hotel is in a great location for Union Square, cable car, trams and the BART. The room rate includes pastries at breakfast, which there were plenty of options. There was also coffee, tea and water available 24/7. The rooms were extremely clean, the bedroom was of good standard, the bathroom a little dated and fixtures/fittings (like the soap dispenser) need an overhaul. The staff are great and extremely friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location is perfect - close to everything.
It’s not the fanciest place in SF but it is clean and safe. The fresh pastries and coffee were excellent. The car park across the street was easy to use and convenient. The staff was kind and helpful. It’s near several excellent restaurants and a little walk to the waterfront.
I had a confirmed reservation - came in early in the morning and the room wasn’t ready. Checked in at 5 pm and they said hotel is full and off loaded me to another hotel few blocks away!!! That’s bad. The staff didn’t even explain why they gave my room away- just as a matter of fact told me to go to another hotel with address on a post it note !!!!
This property is an older one and could use some updating. However, the room was clean and the check-in was helpful and easy. The location is good and I have no complaints.
Just ok
Passable for one night, last minute. Decent for the price, but wouldn't jump to stay there again. Hotel is older and the room was clean but bare bones. Walls are very thin so I was woken up at 3am by another guest yelling on their phone. Front desk person was nice though.
Grant Hotel San Francisco Bush Street
Very convenient to food and is walkable to Chinatown and downtown San Francisco. The hotel is safe and there are CCTVs everywhere. The hotel service staff are very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in a good location, although the climb up the hill to it is steep. It’s close to cable car stops and within 10 min walk to BART train station on Powell st for trains to/from the airport .Union Square is very close by. The hotel itself is basic but clean, with daily clean towels if needed. There are tea and coffee facilities at reception as well as a microwave, computer and ice/water machine. Staff were friendly and accommodating. It was quiet at night and the bed was very comfy. I would definitely stay again .
Super close valet
A great no frills spot in an excellent location, parking was a good deal/price with the garage accross the street. Best bargain in this part of the city. I walked and rode Muni buses everywhere I wanted to go. But beware the incline getting back up Powel, if it's too much for you grab the Muni or a cable car. Nothing fancy, but super friendly and helpful staff, clean, comfortable and safe. Walk to so many great food and drink options. I will be recommending the Grant for my budget travel friends. If you want a room with a view prepare to pay three times their price, or more. If you plan to explore the city and need a quiet place to sleep - Hotel Grant is your best bet.
The gentleman that worked overnight was extremely helpful and kind. I had a slight problem and he didn’t hesitate to o help and solve my problem. All staff were great.
Nice hotel
The hotel is has an excellent location but they can improve in the cleaning, found more than three long hairs in the bathroom and the room smells weird. Overall it was ok for the price.
Friendly efficient people on the front counter rooms were spotless love the position easy access to cable cars plenty of great places to eat at 💖
Nice hotel, pleasant and helpful staff. Nice breakfast for what was on offer. Also hot drinks available throughout the day. If in San Francisco again I would stay here.
Parking was easy to access. Public transportation close by. Staff were helpful.
The building is old but the bedroom and bathroom are clean. The staff is helpful. The lift is very helpful especially for older people. The free breakfast is good. Muffins, banana breads, croissants, cofee, tea, etc. You can eat as much as you like.
Great location and well maintained with fair price
So this isn't a super modern chain place like we often stay when traveling, but it's a great option in San Francisco. It is an older place but was very clean and well maintained. My first impression was that it was like something you might find in Europe, and then I discovered that pretty much all of my fellow guests actually were European! The breakfast pastries were fresh daily. There was an ice and water machine in the lobby. The location was very convenient for reaching a lot of the areas we wanted to visit by either foot or public transportation. We absolutely would stay here again if we needed to stay in San Francisco. My only complaint is that there wasn't nearly enough seating for breakfast in the mornings... But the lobby area is small, so there's probably not much help for that.
Great hotel great location
Great cheap hotel. No air conditioning in the room but San Francisco is so cold even in the middle of July you don’t need it!!
Thank you!
Great location and lovely room. Coffee and pastry are high quality. Comfy beds and friendly staff
Friendly staff who were always willing to help. Decoration and fittings tired but always clean and tidy. Coffee pot always available and breakfast good
The hotel’s appearance was a little tired. The room however was good and very clean. Enjoyed the breakfast.
If you are looking at this hotel, there is only one reason to consider it: the price. It is one of the few budget hotels on the area. It isn't totally awful, but there are things they could do better. My biggest complaint is the bed: it felt sleeping on a sheet of plywood. I stayed in 5 hotels/motels during my trip to California and this was the very worst bed. If the owners could replace the mattresses, this might make for an OK place to stay. I will probably look for a different hotel on my next San Fran visit. It is up a very steep climb a few blocks from Chinatown - but most of San Francisco is quite hilly. I wear earplugs when I sleep. There wasn't street noise, but you can hear noise like people walking about if you are on a lower floor. In the morning they offer pastries, that look like the type sold bulk at many big box retailers. They have one pod coffee machine that guests have to line up at to make individual cups of coffee. I don’t know why they don’t just get a large coffee urn which would make better coffee & be more convenient. The rooms are serviceable and kept clean, with daily housekeeping - but they are pretty beat up. The washroom seemed renovated & was good.
Property was a reasonable price and clean and tidy. We didn't feel unsafe but didn't go out at night. Close to tram stops and an uphill walk from Union Square. Close to China Town. We weren’t quite prepared for the brick wall view and it would have been helpful if staff were more informed or had information available on the cost of the transport cards available and where to get them from. Some include the Bart some don't.
Clean hotel, friendly staff, coffee 24/7 and pastries in the morning.
A very nice hotel in a good area of San Francisco. The staff were very nice, the room was large & the bathroom had everything needed for a pleasant stay. Coffee & water were available 24/7 & a selection of pastries were also available in the mornings, all for free. I couldn't have wished for a better 4 night stay.
All good, would stay again
Had a very comfortable stay at the Grant. Location was excellent and the staff go above and beyond. If I return to San Fran, I would stay here again in a second!
Great stay, would recommend
The rooms/hotel are quite outdated but my room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly/helpful. Breakfast was provided but the croissants were not good and there was no milk but I didn't even realise breakfast was included so this didn't affect my stay. I'd definitely stay again - good value for money.
Generally there were two complaints: The carpeting was very badly stained; so much so, I slept on the other side of the bed because it was less stained on that side. The bed was clearly inferior as well.
Excellent location so handy to cable car, and city centre. First time staying in this location. Safe and no homeless people, as you get in the Tenderloin area. Would stay again and recommend
location
Lovely staff, very nice breakfast pastries and a good location. Within easy reach of Union Square and public transport.
San Francisco experience
Nice location handy for the cable car to fisherman's wharf lots of local bars and restaurants to choose from. Free coffee and pastries in the morning to start your day old but nice and great staff
We were very happy with our stay at the Grant Hotel. We were there for 7 nights in March. The room and hotel were clean. Our room was quiet. The staff were very responsive and friendly. My safe needed new batteries and I immediately had someone come to my room to help me. The only downside for me was the radiator in my room. It was supposed to be in the off position, but for some reason cranked out lots of heat for about 36 hours. The evening desk person couldn't help me, but when I talked to the morning people, they again had someone come look at it right away. Luckily in the meantime the windows opened a bit and it was cool outside, plus we had a very effective ceiling fan. Other than that incident the radiator was fine. Every morning there were pastries available for all hotel guests. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, and ice were available 24 hours day in the lobby, as was a microwave and some tables for eating. There was also a computer and printer though I never used them myself. I arranged for a fridge in my room which was very handy. The hotel was in an excellent location. Easy walking distance to Chinatown, Union Square, North Beach, etc. as long as you don't mind walking upto 20 minutes. Close to all modes of transportation: BART, bus, streetcar, cablecar. Lots of little restaurants, shops, Walgreens within easy walking distance. I didn't use it, but there was even a laundromat a couple businesses away. We always felt safe in the hotel and area.
some staff good some not so much....more interested in themselves. Hotel is older but q1uite good condition and well positioned.....woulkd return only if price good
This hotel met my solo traveling needs! It is close to key tourist areas, either by foot or uber. It is clean, quiet , and has hot water with good pressure. Bonus was the free danish and coffee every morning, friendly staff. Plus i liked that a couple tours picked me up feim this hotel.
Great for the basics
The hotel is a bit run down, needs some doing up, we can only describe it as a private room glorified hostel - the staff were really kind and the free coffee was good. The rooms were basic, has bed, small tv (netflix didnt work though), a decent shower and complimentary toiletries. There is a lift (needs updating for sure) and the rooms were cleaned daily which was nice. If you’re looking for somewhere to sleep and not much else, its cheap and cheerful, if you want the hotel experience, I wouldn’t recommend.
It was very very hot. It was like 80 degrees consistently in the room and the window had no way of staying open so we had to ask staff for help and they gave us a stick to prop the window open. But it didn’t stay very well and was always at risk of falling out of the window and into the street. Staff said there was no way to turn down temp because it was central and all rooms were the same temp. They said the front doors locked from 12am-7am and you could use your key card after that but they were not locked at those times as we came back multiples nights after 12 and they were unlocked.
The Hotel is tidy and clean. there are no bells and whistles and there doesn't need to be. Its location is a two minute walk to the iconic cable car and 15 mins from Union Square right in the heart of SF. Transport via cable car tram to everywhere you need is quick and easy. Breakfast was simple and there was plenty of it. Staff were friendly and knowledgable
The price was great for San Francisco. This hotel is basic, safe, convenient and clean. We stayed 4 nights and were very happy with everything. Staff was friendly, area was safe for walking and convenient to many attractions. The room was fine and the bed very comfy.
Great hotel at a reasonable price
Well located within walking distance from attractions and Chinatown. Very close to Union Square where we boarded the Hop-on Hop-off bus. Rooms were clean and quiet. Staff were terrific. Free tea and coffee with breakfast pastries from 7 am to 10 am
A good area for getting around and some good places to eat nearby… Sears, Cesario’s. Near to trams and buses.
Clean and central to the cable cars
Receptionist was super friendly, accomodating and welcoming. But the room facilities were not as expected. Shower wasnt working right, window kept falling down when i tried to pull it up since it was too hot inside. Tv chsnels were limited not as in other rooms i stayed before...
Tv had only 3 chanels available, in compare to the room 206, I was able to browse a lot more chanels during my stay. Also, I wasnt able to raise my window b3cause it was too hot inside.
happy with our room which had a bath as well as shower. Very clean and well appointed
Excellent. Highly recommend. Nice staff and service
We loved this hotel. The selling point was the 24/7 coffee/tea/hot cocoa in the lobby. Parking was a breeze. Parking structure directly across the street. Area around the hotel is safe compared to a few blocks over.
Fantastic small hotel - central location, large clean rooms, great price.
Great proximity to Union Square and tram line.
Reasonable price for an expensive city.
The room was clean and comfortable. Only needed a one night stay, but for the price and place, I would have stayed longer. The location was perfect too.
Great location, conveniently close to Union Square with a short walk down the hill to the Stockton Tunnel stairs. I came into the City for a Warriors game, and caught the #15 Muni bus that takes one directly to the Chase Center. In suite bath, and morning pastries and coffee were also a great benefit. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful!
Excellent service, hospitality, clean, cozy, and safe.
As always, excellent experience! Thank you!
Convenient location
location good
Family trip
Nice friendly people. gave us direction to a good restaurant. Gave us the room on the top floor and at the back away from the street noise. 5 star on cleanliness. will book again next time. Pizzeria upfront. Sushi beside. Chinatown 3 blocks away.
Room as expected
I knew this was a budget hotel when I booked it, and the rooms were as you would expect in terms of age and condition for the price. The only thing that got on my nerves it that the room smelled funny. Staff were friendly.
I couldn’t ask for more - $100 /night for Union Square location, clean room, working bathroom, working Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast and round-the-clock tea/coffee/water! Apart from the loud heating pipes in the room, it really did its job for my 5D/4N stay in San Francisco. Thank You to the gentleman at the reception who was kind enough to offer us takeaways upon our early check-out at 5 am. I’ll be back!
This is a sweet little hotel in the perfect location. Parking is the most inexpensive in the City and very convenient & safe. The hotel is a classic old hotel with small rooms that feels like you are in a European hotel. There are wonderful cafes nearby and the cable car stop is half a block away. Union Square's plaza is two blocks away. The only thing we noticed this stay is there wasn't a hair dryer in the room but those may be available on request? We have stayed in many Union Square hotels and others in different parts of the City -- some much more expensive also -- but this has become our first choice!
This is my second time at the Grant Hotel. The location is great. The morning pastries a treat. And Hyden helped ,e with an issue printing out some tickets. He was a huge help. We loved it.
Friendly respectful helpful and courteous staff. Thank you
Nice and helpful staff. Wonderful location.
Good budget hotel close to Union Square, Nob hill, Grace Cathedral. Uphill walk from Powell Bart station. Room was clean. Old hotel but well maintained. Bed and pillow was very firm. Coffee available all day. Breakfast available from 7 to 10 am includes muffin, pastry, croissant.
Uncomfortable roller beds with worn out mattresses. Bad WiFi signal in the room. Great location, friendly staff, and decent cakes and coffee for breakfast.
Very friendly staff, new spacious bathroom, excellent free breakfast, very quiet and great safe location. The only problem was a very bad smell in the hallways, which should not be ignored by the hotel management.
Location was wonderful. Lots of restaurants and things in the area and the cable car stop was right at the end of the street.
Everything was pretty much nearby and easily walkable. Hotel offered all day coffee and breakfast everyday. Seems like they renovated little bit since we came last year which was great to see. Will be coming back to stay here again definitely!
Safe area, coffee and pastries were great.
good location, close to everything.
Great staff!
