Fantastic location, reasonable price, clean
The room we stayed was small and didn't have a fridge. But it was clean and well taken care. The location is great, just a walk distance from everything.
A nice property in the middle of a bustling area, which can be noisy at times. If you get a room on the top floor the stairs could be a challenge.
Excellent location enjoyed it very goid
.
Location
I really liked the area and how close it was to the historic center. The hostel and the staff were really nice. Just keep in mind that there’s stairs and no elevator. Overall, it was a great experience and a good place to stay in Porto.
Great spot to stay! Cannot beat the location. The facility is older but it makes up for it in location by far
The man at reception helped me alot, i got a kettle. It was close to all, room was great. A real hotel. Excellent value for money.
Great location and lack of amenities
Good location, walking distance to most main attractions. The room is clean, however there are ants 🐜 everywhere on the floor. Leaking on the ceiling when it’s raining. No iron and no elevator in the building, 4th floor is the highest floor, if you’re bringing large luggages you need to cling the stairs.
Easy checked in and checked out, staffs were nice and friendly, room was big and clean, great location. RECOMMENDED!!!!
Dining was superb with a great included breakfast!
Top floor room meant plenty of stairs, but a great view from this secure and well located guest house. Regularly cleaned room was great, and the location meant most sites of interest were very walkablem Yes is can be noisy given its location, but that is mitigated with double glazing. Only request is for a source of indirect lighting (I dislike overhead lights). Otherwise, I would stay here again.
Great location! They were flexible with early check-in. Very clean and quiet in the upper floors. I would come back to this guest house :)
It was in the best location ever and staff was super friendly
Great central location
Fantastic location in central Porto. Very handy for the Metro from the airport and also the night bus back to the airport for our very early flight. As noted by others, it is noisy at night with the window open, but close the window and put the aircon on and everything is fine. We also arrived after midnight but our key was waiting for us in reception so check-in was easy. Would definitely re-book this hotel and we look forward to returning once the new Pink Line Metro works are completed.
This hotel is located close to the historic city center with numerous shopping and dining options within walking distance.
great location and well worth the price
We were looking for affordable accommodation and this place was perfect. Great location and really charming place. We were on the top floor and had to carry our suit case up 4 flights of stairs which could be a challenge for certain travelers. We took the room with the shared bathroom and it was comfortable. I would recommend this to family or friends looking for an affordable place in central historic porto.
Clean, convenient & affordable pensao
The panoramic rooms are on the top (4th) floor with no elevator, requiring a climb of 72 steps to reach. The first floor of rooms is about 35 steps. The rooms themselves are quite spacious and comfortable. I would have appreciated a small refrigerator in the room, but there are certainly lots of food and beverage options within blocks of the hotel. There are a few big construction projects going on in the area, so we experienced some noise and dust.
Food and drink are a bit pricy.
I loved the location!!! The check in process was confusing and it's easy to fix by providing clear instructions. It was clean and well equipped. The night from Saturday to Sunday was outrageously noisy. People were partying until 4:30 in the morning, screaming and yelling. It was insane. The internet stopped working the last 24 hours. Since there wasn't anyone at the reception to talk to, I just ended up using my hot spot.
Right in the historical centre and very clean
The check in process was laborious to say the least. If we had not run into the cleaning lady coming out of the hotel we would not have been able to check in.
Nice
Nice location, good room size, clean and comfortable.
It was clean, functional, eco-friendly, staff very helpful. It is in the downtown area and in walking distance with the historical part of Porto. It is also close to restaurants and othes places for sampling the excellent local cuisine
Great view and hotel but read my review.
Our room had an incredible view of the city. The room was very nice, however it did not have a refrigerator. The hotel does not have front desk service or hotel shuttle as advertised. The hotel is a five story building without an elevator so carrying 2 heavy suitcases up and down the stairs was not fun. lol. Overall it was a nice stay.
This hotel was booked by mistake. After 10 minutes of booking tried to cancel and was unable to! 5 days before the booked date received an email saying sorry but the hotel had to close due to work being carried out, no mention of my cash being returned.
Good enough
Pro: Great location Nice shower Con: No check-in instruction No parking
Very clean and tidy and ideal location You could hear the noisy Stairs Very loudly while sleeping Overall guest house good
No elevator squeaky floors
No elevator hard to get luggage up to floor we were staying on. Stairs and floors squeaky.
A clean very central lodging ideal for a short sta
The hotel's location was ideal for my needs and I received the help I needed to make my stay successful. The spiral stairs made it a little difficult to take luggage up and down but the positive aspects compensated for this.
Good stay
It was a good stay, located in safe neighbourhood in centre. WIFI didn't work at night between 10:00pm till early morning.
My stay here was great. The staff was friendly
would definetely stay here again. great location
Perfect location to see city
Very central location staff friendly good English Beware of the stairs to rooms as no lift so would not recommend for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs
Great location, easy walking distance to everything. Big room. Could be noisy late at night when people rang buzzer to get in, as buzzer echoed through building.
Amazing stay
Maravilhoso atendimento, limpeza e localização, com certeza ficaremos novamente. Obrigado seu Vitor 😉
Impeccable place. Quiet. New amenities. Great area 10 mins walking to shopping area, good eats, coast, historical points of interest. Viktor Manager was very professional, knowledgable, corteus even helped me with my luggage :) I will definitely recommend this to others. I think we must open our heads to be adaptable when we travel instead of complaining for things that are irrelevant. If we get out to a different place it is in fact to experience different emotions, situations, food, noise, aromas, etc. Thank you for the great stay.
Park car before you walk to hotel in the evening.
Great location and price. No frills. If you arrive at night you CANNOT drive down the street to check in first! No matter what they say. There is a parking garage a few blocks away that was 45 euro for 2 1/2 days.
Good little guesthouse
Great guest house in a great location. It gets a little noisy at night so perhaps request a room at the back of the guest house, there's also no elevator so pack light! Even with these 2 issues, I still couldn't fault anything from my stay.
Would have been better if it had a lift
Excellent
Excellent
Hotel was easy to find Hotel has no lift and lots of very steep stairs Radiator was off at night Blackout shutters would not close No internet TV was not working Phone to reception did not work Door handle stopped working so we're trapped in room and had to bang on door until staff came to open as called but phone line not in service Told cable had been cut next door but yet they still advertise facilities
Great location, good facilities but the wall is not sound-proof, very noise at night
Good for short stay
Overall good, good servive, allowed tomuse refrigerator and microwave downstairs. Only drawback room but small but good bathroom but seperated only by piece of cloth, not good, but bathroom had window for ventillation, still also door better. Also first room up creaky wooden stairs so evrytime someone passed could easily hear in room. Overall ok for very short stay, like day or two. Hotel in excellent location for seeing major sites and close to train station walk maybe 7 min. , bus station 35 minute walk.
Good value
Very Basic Room in clean well situated guesthouse but lacking in amenities. The attendant was helpful in taking our bags to the third floor. I would bit have reserved here if I had realized their was no elevator. There was bottled water for sale but no other food service. We requested hot water and were loaned an electric kettle to make tea. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. It is fine and the price is great if you just need a place to sleep.
Room was nice. We had a few rough nights since bars close at 6:00 am so allot of partying and disturbance during night!
Excellent location of the hostel. It’s walkable distance to the major hot tourist spots in the city
On hotels in general, Expedia was advertising in dollars when in actuality the hotels charged the same amount in Euros. Feels like I paid a lot more than i should have on this trip. Not sure if it was the fault of the expedia website or the hotel. Staff was friendly and helped store our luggage. Some flies in the reception area but wasnt too annoyed about it. No elevator. Room was pretty clean and comfortable. Great location.
Nice hotel with great location
Great!
Absolutely incredible! The location cannot be beat. Beautiful view from the balcony. Geral was very helpful! Only one issue- the top of my shower was held together with duct tape. The rest of the room was 5/5 stars!
Nice hotel in a good location
The hotel is in a good location about 15 mins walk from the river. Although it on a small side street its a busy area with some good bars and restaurants within 5/10 mins walk. Value for money in these places is better than the more touristy areas on the riverfront. It's 10 min walk from the Trindade metro stop on the purple line from the airport (takes about 30 mins on the metro). We had a twin room - although it took some wrangling to secure this on arrival as hotels.com only allows you to submit a preference for room type - beware of this when booking as it wasn't clear that it was just a "suggestion" and we were lucky that we could eventually have a twin room instead of a double. The room was light and airy being on the front overlooking the street. The bathroom was small but functional. All the rooms are up the stairs (no lift) and it is a large creaky wooden staircase so you could hear people clunking up and down it. It didn't disturb us but I imagine if you got some inconsiderate people it could be annoying. The guy on the tiny Reception was helpful sorting out the room issue and very pleasant.
Excellent Central Option
Excellent location, awesome room, no complaints whatsoever. Staff was communicative prior to arriving. I had little interaction with the staff, but their English was limited. I found this to be consistent throughout the city compared with other Portuguese destinations. I would absolutely stay here again!
Conveniently located but very basic
Clean but very basic room. Not suitable it you can't climb stairs... Or want to park a car... Or want to have a cold drink...
Great place in the center of things
This is a great place to stay if you want to be in the center of things in Porto. It is not a luxury accommodation at all, but it's clean and comfortable. The rooms are very small and, at least in our room, there was only a curtain (no door) between the bedroom and bathroom, so make sure you're comfortable with that. Another downside is that the walls are fairly thin, so you can hear people as they walk up and down the stairs past your room. This was only a problem on the weekend as there were not enough people staying there during the week for it to have any effect. Other pluses: the internet is high quality, the people at the front desk are friendly, and the shower is good both in terms of pressure and hot water. But of course, the best part of this hotel is definitely the area -- lots to see, lots to do, and it's all right up close!
Good hotel in great location
It's all about the location. This hotel is right in the middle of everything. Very easy to walk to everything. The hotel is clean and very no frills. I could hear noise from outside the room very distinctly. Also, be aware of very steep flights of rickety stairs. The lobby had a faint musty smell while the room smelled strongly of baby powder. The free Wifi was very fast. Overall, not a bad place to stay for a couple of nights.
Great central location - could walk everywhere
Really enjoyed our stay - large room reasonably priced! Lots of stairs though!
Cheap but noisy, no lifts and cramped and stuffy.
My room was on the top floor. A long climb with luggage. There was no sound proofing and the noise from the street, all night, prevented any sleep. Room tiny. No cooling at all. Hotel Staff have barely any English. Terrible stay!
Great location
The hostel and the staff is great and has a great location the only inconvenience is that it doesn't have an elevator.
Hotel was in a good location for touring Porto.
Hotel was clean and staff had a lot of good suggestions for sites throughout the city. They also offered parking which was a plus in the center of the city. The only con was that our room was on the 3rd floor with no elevator.
Great location, but don't drive there!
The hotel is located on a historic street, so don't try to drive there. Park in a nearby parking garage and walk. The room was small, but good for one night.
above average
stay for 1 night only. the checkout time is until noon, which is super for me to take a longer sleep. but be careful if u have a huge luggage, there is NO elevator.
Convenient and clean hotel
Very good experience at this hotel. The hotel does not have a lift. The location is ideal for visiting Porto. Very good value for this hotel.
Great location.
It was good for a quick stay, wouldn't stay multiple nights.
Good Value and Location
Good location. Easy to find. Small bedroom. Lots of stairs! Welcoming staff
Great location, friendly helpful staff.
Clean comfortable rooms with English speaking staff who went out of their way to help. Great location close to everything. Aconditioning, good showers, cable TV with English speaking channels. Double glazing to Windows reduces street noise.
Thank you for a wonderful stay Teresa Eales
Nice hotel, noisy at night
The hotel was very comfortable and very well located near Sao Bento station. One drawback was the entry and lobby of the hotel smelled damp and slightly unpleasant. But the room was excellent as was the bathroom. Breakfast was not available at the hotel but easy to find in the neighborhood. Two other complaints -- the neighborhood has a busy and noisy nightlife and the hotel has no elevator, both of which can be difficult for older guests.
Good for a short stay
We stayed for one night. The staff were very friendly. Room was small but clean. We experienced some noisy people checking in late and some noisy people outside in the street in the early morning hours.
Excellent value pensione in great location!
Great location in Aliados, walking distance to Riberia, many sights , including Photography museum (which I highly recommend, if no other reason than to see the old prison building). Not the fanciest accommodation, but very clean, well run, excellent value. Only drawback - lots of stairs. But highly recommended.
Great location and super nice owners.
Thumbs up
Great experience! Would stay again. Small hotel as expected, lots of charm.
Clean simple hotel - great location
Clean simple hotel - great location. Negatives were no lift, and - at least in my room - I could hear everything in a room next door. Very convenient location - lots to see and do and explore nearby.
Clean, comfortable and practical
Nice lady at the reception. Right next to a big restaurant/bar area, so it was a bit noisy during the weekend. It's within walking distance to most attractions.
the location is convenient
Great budget option
Pleasantly surprised to get a good basic hotel room in this price range. Nothing fancy but no unpleasant surprises. We actually stayed there at two different times over a two-week period.
Good value, however rennovations in progress
the best things about this hotel is the location, in the center of the historic old town of Porto close to bars and great restaurants recommended by the hotel and the value for money. We paid the supplement for the double room with city view and it was worth the extra. The room had been recently renovated, however, at the time we stayed all the other rooms were in the process of getting a facelift so there was a lot of activity (bags of plaster/cement, tins of paint, drilling noise) which was a bit messy. We couldn't have a shower or use the sink one morning as the water was turned off - no doubt to conduct plumbing renovations. It would have been nice to have been warned in advance. After the renovations are complete, the Pensão Grande Oceano will be a recommended place to stay when visiting Porto
Great location to visit Porto.
Nice hotel at good locaton - close to Porto the most imprtant places. Quite hard to find. Nice staff, not speaking good English but we had no problems in commuication. Room was big, with small balcony.
This hotel is very recommendable.
Apart from too many steps from lobby to my room, It was wonderful place to me. Really kind staffs, cozy and clean room, good location and everything. The seafood restaurant one of staffs recommended was the best :D
Porto
Had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. It is very close to city hall and the main sights in porto. Staff was friendly and helpful, room was clean. Our bedframe made an unbelievable amount of noise, it even bothered our sleeping it was so incessant. Room was very cold, although there is ac, no heating seemed to be present. Overall, well worth the rate!
Das Hotel liegt sehr zentral Nähe Avenidaplatz zwischen 2 Metrostationen. Einige Busse fussläufig erreichbar. Ebenso das Centrum. Gutes Ausgeh- und Restsurantviertel. Hotel gute Klimaanlage.
Bom hotel
Um hotel bem localizado. Facilita o turismo na região
Nice clean little room. Comfy mattress. Close to things you need for a city trip. Convenient check in. Thanks
Sitio acogedor y limpio...
Quarto muito confortavel
Quarto super confortavel. Adoramos a cama e o chuveiro.
It was lovely, the only downside is there was no lift. But the room was spacious and clean the beds were comfy and the tv and aircon worked. Walking up and down the stairs with our bags was the only downside for me. The location was great really close to some nice bars and varied restaurants. And very close to clerigos tower, Livraria lello and the photographic museum
shabby accommodation. Good location
Perfekt
Enkelt og meget rent.
Perfekt in der Innenstadt und alles zu Fuß erreichbar, leider gibt es keinen Aufzug Mann sollte schon Fit sein für die Treppen
Summer days off in Porto
I like the idea that I was in was to seem to be in a most quiet neighborhood of town although it was most central. Nice washroom with a view into a what seems to be a backyard of balconies. Effective service, I guess also.
Muy buena ubicacion
Cama maravilhosa
Grande Oceano Guest House | Hotel in Porto | Travala.com
I would happily stay here again.
This guest house is very simple. It has a beautiful stair case and no elevator. It's central location in the city is excellent, but obviously there can be noisy people in the streets and city noise. There are several coffee and breakfast places within a 5 minute walk. The beds were more comfortable than usual. The shower had hot water. For the price I paid, I was satisfied.
