Basic!
This is a great place to stay, location is wonderful really close to train station and all the places to see are a walking distance from here, the staff is nice even when they're busy they attend to your needs, its clean and nice
Covenient location
I had no idea of the age and condition when booking . Backpackers style, not suitable for families or really anyone over 40 due to access issues
Its pub style accommodation if your fussy you won't like it, but if you want 4 walls and a clean bed close to everywhere it's great. The bathrooms are shared and can be hit or miss if grubs are using the facilities but otherwise great cheap option for a night on the town.
Old and tired rooms. No proper curtain to block out light.
Didnt expect much, didnt get much. Lift was obsolete and dangerpus, manual opening and door closing. I was on floor 5, and the fire escape stairs seemed to end there. You would not want to be in an emergency situation looking for where the fire stair continued down.
Noisy and dated room.
Very dated, old hotel, with many maintenance issues (e.g. window not sitting down completely, the room fan was not working. Thus very noisy (from outside) room. Definitely 2 stars...
Very good value for money
Very convenient location
Pub vibe is Good
Good room quiet
Bathrooms were mouldy and need a major update. Shared bathroom must have been in the fine print
Fabulous old building....fabulous staff....elevator was hard work, we definitely will be back.
Dirty, run down, no service at all Tried to get a refund - no response - Only stayed one night - had a broken down heater - basically froze the in the night
Good because it's convenient to circular quay .old hotel with basic room .not modern with all the luxury mod.cons.but if you want a cheap room in the heart of Sydney it's good.
The staff were lovely, the bedding was clean. The rest I can’t find anything nice to say. Take thongs , an air freshener , sanitiser, and ear plugs .
A little room with factory window that looked out on a laneway where a neon light shone all night as well as that the ventilation system on all night outside the window which was single glass so you heard everything .one toilet for the whole floor multi gender . The room 6 sq meters . Price 130 euro . Feel robbed thanks Expedia !!!
Easy walking with train and tram close
Older style hotel, noisy inner city. Basic facilities.
Could not fault any aspect of our stay. Thank you
The Grand
A very quaint older style hotel with beautiful fittings and great service staff were fabulously helpful
Staff were so kind and let us store our bags while we prepared for a cruise, it made the two days alot easier for us and we really appricate it.
The place is very tired and run down, carpets are matted and worn through, small room for the price, shared bathroom/shower smells of urine.
Nothing fancy, but a very economical option for walking around the city. Staff were very friendly and helpful with storing luggage prior to checkin. Location to Circular Quay and Harbour was great and guest rooms were clean and comfortable with the bathroom facilities more than adequate along with fresh towels and toiletries provided.
Fan not effective and very noisy. Room tired and dated.
.
Great locate
Economical option for cruise passengers
Convenient location for cruise passengers. Nothing fancy, but a very economical option within walking distance to Circular Quay. Be aware of shared bathroom/showers. Staff were very friendly and helpful with storing luggage prior to checkin.
Room smaller than expected, hot night no aircon!
Very friendly staff. The location is within easy walking distance to train station, light rail and Circular Quay. Rooms were clean and considering the inner city location nice and quiet. Woud stay here again.
Perfect location.
Having set my expectations low after some of the reviews I read I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms are aged but clean, the shared amenities were clean and the staff were very nice. Location is great as you can easily walk to the opera house and circular quay. This is priced very fairly and as long as you are not a princess you will be happy.
Thread bare carpets and huge patches of paint.comimg off the ceiling
Convenient and Clean
If it’s just a clean comfortable bed in the middle of the city for a couple of nights it’s perfect it’s cheap it’s an old pub you get what you pay for My second time staying and will happily stay again
The hotel facilities are old and smelly. The price charged for the room is way too expensive considering the facilities.
Massive 24 construction site across the road. Impossibly to sleep.
Location to Circular Quay and Harbour was great, guest rooms were clean and comfortable and the bathroom facilities were more than adequate along with fresh towels and toiletries provided. Room pricing was exceptional given the location and state of the building. Highly recommended for budget accommodation.
Very tired and run down … paint peaking off ceilings, sink chipped, missing knobs on cupboard… shower head rusty and facing tiles…windows gaps… hearing traffic…
You get what you pay for, it is basic and clean and convenient to the city. There is a communal shower and toilet to use then you have to come back to your room to use a hand basin. One of our beds was supported up with a brick. Lucky there is a lift but watch out the doors bite if you dont hold them open.
Good stay
Good stay good location
A good budget hotel, efficient check in, Rooms well serviced.
A bit long in the tooth and shabby in parts, but not enough to be a turn-off, if you know what I mean. You get what you pay for! The two bars associated with the property are pretty cool though. It did the job. We were up there for the marathon and the staff were very accommodating to our request for a late check-out, which was essential as there was only a small window to get back to the room post-race otherwise!
The rooms were not clean (carpet dirty) and only had a small oil heater to heat the room which was covered in dust. Facilities were very average and bathrooms which were communal and not stated when booking accommodation that they were separate and were not very clean and tiles missing in the shower. It was very noisy with roadwork going on late into the night (well after 1am) which we were not advised of before checking in otherwise we would have stayed elsewhere. The only good thing about the room was the comfy beds.
TV did not work checking in was a nightmare and Lift was not working but they did advise that after I had booked not Ideal
Got what we paid for but wouldn’t go back without the lift being fixed. The pub is cute with a great vibe.
We were informed a month before our stay the lift was broken which we dealt with. 5 flights with 8 lots of luggage is a bit much. The shared bathroom services was listed at the bottom of the page. This should have been at the very top of the page when looking at the facilities. In this day and age a $350 per night hotel room should have its own bathroom.
Budget old hotel.
Is located inside the city. Below there is a pub so do expect noises at night. Bathrooms and toilets are share on each floor. Hotel is quite run down but not a problem if you don't mind. The lift was under repair so we have to carry our stuff up 4th floor without any help. Plus point is in a very good location, they allow us to store our luggages after we checked out but I was told I can't do packing there, is cold outside so expect us to stand along the streets displaying our stuff?? Abit piz off here...
The rooms are old and need refurbishment. The room states that it has a refrigerator, but ours was in a wardrobe and wasn't plugged in. The elevator borders on being unsafe and was unusable on the Saturday morning of our stay as someone had not closed the outer door. Check in was via the bar area of the hotel and not signed very well. Whilst it was inexpensive compared to other hotels I wouldn't stay here again.
My only real issue is the noise factor .. there is no attempt to sound proof anything so the empty bottles being thrown out etc all hours under the window made sleeping really hard
Seperate bathroom
White dribble stains on blankets n cushions. YUK! City centre, average meal. Mice had bitten threw breakfast packages. Not for us, price n cleaner elsewhere
I like that it is reasonably priced but it was much better a couple of years ago when, for less money, breakfast was also provided. The room was comfortable (just) but in common with my last stay, noisy (exterior exhaust fan runs all night) and inadequate curtain allows light into the room making sleep virtually impossible. I won’t be staying there again.
Awesome location. Affordable. Clean and quiet. More than I expected for the price.
Well located for what I needed. The biggest negative was there was a hum that kept me awake.
I like that we got a free dinner to make up for the swapped room as they accidentally gave the wrong key to someone else, and we had to wait for a family room to be cleaned for us to go in.
The hotel accommodation was beyond basic rooms very hot couldn't leave windows open due to noise.
Very outdated and weathered
The hotel was better than I expected especially for the price and in a great location. The staff were also lovely
Very charming and quaint. Has a hilariously dodgy lift, no basins in toilet area, no wifi, no air con, not kid friendly. Had a great stay!
Liked breakfast provisions. Lift was a little tricky to use.
Above an old pub, wham bam in the middle of the city. Understand those facts and you won't be disappointed. A bit noisy, sure, plenty of character, yep, walk out your front door to the bustle of the city, yay! Yes, you can get the same paying many hundreds elsewhere but we had a blast. Take it for what it is and you won't regret it. Recommended.
The lift was vintage and defective. I got stuck in it for a while yoyoing between the basement and the top floor. Not pleasant.
Good central location and perfectly comfortable just need to upgrade the ripped carpets and put fans in the rooms.
The room was a decent size, bed was comfortable, nice to have a sink in the room, toiletry items good. Close to lots of amenities/restaurants. However there was an odor in the room that was annoying to the nose.
Excellent staff
Took staff 45 minutes to check me in. Room was bright as day as blockout blind didn’t work. Noise of the pub and street travelled right through the room. May as well have slept in a cardboard box. It was also way too expensive for what it was.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Handy location. Clean and tidy
Bad services
The room was big enough for 4 of us and everyone slept comfortably. The place is clean, central and affordable
Terrible old room door wouldn’t lock, extremely noisy generators or air conditioning units right outside the windows so makes it very hard to sleep. Peeling paint on the ceiling mould in the corners. No thanks
A very confusing way to check in as no information when arriving especially when you are travelling with children. Lovely spacious rooms and bathroom/toilets clean. Good location for anyone who wants to sightsee.
Check in was easy and the beds were very comfortable
For the price of $104 in Sydney, this place is fair. The building is charming, but has got a bit tired & grotty. Bedding was clean, but the shower curtain in the shared bathroom was revolting; covered in black mould that no amount of cleaning would shift. Super cheap to replace! Window doesn't close properly, so I was worried about noise, being right above the pub and on a busy street, but my earplugs did the trick and I was warm, despite the open window. You can't call the property for info prior to arriving, as their main number is disconnected. I tried another one, but it rang out...
So handy
I was very happy with the stay, it was close to everything. The beds were so comfortable. All the staff were very friendly. I will definitely stay again.
The room itself was alright but no bathroom within the room or other facilities such as a microwave, AC or even a fan really ruined our stay
The staff were super friendly. Clare, Ben and Lauren made us feel very welcome and were very professional
cleaning
Spider webs everywhere, fan is weak, bar and street is too loud even with windows closed.
Price was good. But 2 single beds pushed together was very hard for a married couple
the old irish pub ambience and the pie for lunch was amazing. Staff were always nice. Will definitely book again if staying in city
didn't
The location is good, however when I arrived the elevator wasn't working and they gave me a room in the 5th floor and I had to carry two heavy bags upstirs and take them down when I checked out. The sink in the room was closed and full of water. Overall it's a bad experience and won't be staying in this hotel next time.
Hotel location changed upon booking. Initially was advised that the location is on Oxford and Mitchell st. However when going to check in the location of hotel is on 30 hunter St. never made it to the hotel.
Fluro lights outside my room made it bright all night. Bins emptied at 1:30am outside my door and constant industrial hum made it hard to sleep.
Has i only was in the room for 5 hours as i was at a Christmas party
Shared bathrooms (vomit)
Great hotel and location
Handy for where I needed to be.
Excellent Customer Service
The staff at the hotel was exceptionally nice. They helped me with clear guidelines and also helped me with a cloak room to park my luggage for 2 hours post check out. Their friendliness and kind service oriented attitude despite the hectic schedule was noteworthy.
A bit of traffic noise but value for money. Clean and comfortable
Hotel is very old, floors creak, rooms are stuffy, there is no parking, lift is like a metal crate, bed is comfortable, showered are clean. Very noisy location, $101 for a bed.
Inexpensive, adequate facities, clean, great character, great location
This is a very old hotel and is in need for a lot of maintenance.
staff were very friendly and helpfull, food well cooked
The location is good. The service is good. But it is noisy area and sometimes hard to sleep at night. No air condition. The lift sometimes gets stuck on other floors and we had to take the stairs, it was hard because our room was on fifth floor. The carpet is so old. And in general the hotel is so old.
Great location close to the city and with friendly staff. Older building with communal showers and toilets, but overall
Liked that it’s location, friendly And helpful staff. Like the breakfast area.
Not what you expect at that price
Unfortunately the room was not as expected or described. The sink had no hot water and didnt drain. There was no fridge or coffee making services. Thankfully they did move me after the first night. Definitely NOT what I expected at over 200 pounds a night but, it was in a great Sidney central location.

I wouldn't recommend staying here. While the location was great, the hotel was dirty and the facilities were poor
