Great

Hotel was much more elegant than expected. Breakfast was adequate, but coffee service could have been better. One coffee maker was broken. Had to stand in line for coffee.

The location and the attention to detail were both great. The breakfast was awesome

Great view & location

Great view of the ocean. Very walkable area. Elegant old hotel, modernized, yet charming. Cafe available, as well as restaurant, for those who like to eat before 8:30pm.

We stayed at Gran Hotel Sardinero on the last night of a 3.5 week driving tour of France and Spain, before catching the ferry back to Portsmouth, UK. The hotel was tired, the most poorly equipped of all the hotels over 25 nights and it cost the most. At over £300 for one night, I did expect tea and coffee facilities and parking, instead the parking was another 17€ for one night and there were no tea or coffee facilities, not even a kettle. We were expecting and paid for a family room, which turned out to be a basic room with two kingsize beds, it was the only hotel over 25 nights where we didn’t have separate bedrooms for the children. There was no breakfast included and when we went down to have dinner, the restaurant apparently only opens at 20:30, which is too late for children to eat. So we found a restaurant down the road to have dinner, where the food was exceptional! It was all round a disappointment, which all began when we wanted to take our bags up to the room, one of the lifts was broken for several hours, the toilet brush was broken and the mini bar was empty, with exception to a bottle of water. It almost felt like a posh Faulty Towers, my advice is to steer clear and stay at the Hotel Catalonia in Bilbao, where for the same price, it will absolutely exceeded all your expectations, as it did ours. It’s where we’ll be staying next time. The only positives were the balconies were lovely, the beds were very comfortable and reception staff polite.

Good location

There is something very meager about only allotting a grand total of two very thin pillows for an entire king bed. Not even a blanket in the closet. We had a suite and breakfast, and they were both average. I'm not sure if it's a regional stinginess or what. But the service was a bit lacking. If you don't get a suite, you are out of luck here. No cups, coffee maker, not much of anything. The standard rooms are not generous at all. On the bright side, wonderful location, free towells for the beach, a restaurant with decent hours. The restaurant seemed pretty good.

A wonderful hotel overlooking the beach. Lovely room with a side view of the sea. In a fabulous location. Staff were friendly and our room was spacious and immaculate. In walking distance of the beach, bars and restaurants. It is nice having a cafe attached to the hotel with outside seating where you can purchase drinks and snacks throughout the day. Taxi rank right outside to take you easily to the ferry side of Santander as it was a bit of a walk. Couldn’t fault the hotel and would stay again and recommend.

Beautiful location and beach view.

This was my second time staying at this place, the staff has always been super nice and attentive. Rooms are comfortable, although it would be great to have a full size mirror in there. And just a tad more space in the room so you can open the suitcase and still be able to walk around the bed. There were just a few things i wasnt so happy with at breakfast buffet, there were some chiped plates, as well as not so clean glasses, there were some day old pastries displayed and saw a couple of bugs walking around the cabinet (not the food) where the food is displayed.

Very professional

Lovely hotel in a perfect location.

We have stayed here many times. It is so convenient for the beach and restaurants and only a 6 euro taxi drive into Santander. Everyone is really friendly and the hotel restaurant and cafe bar are great. The resort is really Spanish which we love.

An excellent stopover on our way to take the Santander - Plymouth ferry. A great location on an area with good restaurants. The hotel staff were welcoming and the room was comfortable.

We had a lovely 2 days in Hotel Sardinero, we were given a sea view room which was spacious and very clean and comfy. Reception was very friendly and knowledgeable and we had a very pleasant stay

Everything was very clean and our suite was lovely, facing the sea with little balconies. The bar area and restaurant let the hotel down… both being functional rather than inviting. The bar area outside the front of the hotel was better, but only in fine weather. The breakfasts were perfectly adequate, but a little more imagination could be used… some salad items added beside the charcuterie, and the fried eggs usually looked like they had been around for a long time!! Having said that, the fresh orange juice and the Spanish omelettes were delicious. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Outstanding location, overlooking the beach. Very knowledgeable staff, always ready to answer questions and willing to take the time to research if they don't know. Loved it enough to stay an extra day!

Comfortable large room

Hotel was OK. It has a good location right by the beach. Restaurant closed very early around 20:30 which seemed a bit strange but so did some of the restaurants nearby. It may have been related to the bank holiday the following day. Car park is accessed by a car lift.

Modern 4* in the best location in Santander

Very nice hotel, modern, clean and great location. Probably one of the only hotels in Santander which is is modernised. The price and 4* rating are appropriately aligned. The only criticism I have about my stay is that the pillows in the room are absolutely awful, thin, poor quality and not comfortable. Breakfast buffet is nice with a large selection.

The photos on expedia don’t do justice to the property. It’s very clean and classy. The quality of linen et all is high end and gives a feel of luxury.

One of my favorite places I've stayed. For the price, feels special. Loved the power blinds and how dark they made the room. Can't beat it's proximity to Sardinero beach. This is where rich Spaniards stay, but it didn't seem overpriced.

Muy poca empatia!!

Hotel precioso y bien situado, muy confortable y silencioso, situado en primera linea de playa pero con muy mal servicio. Viajaba por trabajo y me levanté a las 6.30 porque supuestamente la cafeteria abría a las 7. Nadie fue capaz de hacerme un café ni en el bufete ni en la cafeteria porque las 7.30 son las 7.30, ni mas ni menos!! Una pena, no volveré!!!

The rooms and comunal areas were good. I didn't like being told if I wanted dinner I had to take it in the café and not the dining room. Consequently I didn't have dinner there.

We always love staying at this hotel. It is in the perfect situation, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the team welcoming. Restaurant and cafe excellent.

Wonderful hotel with front ocean view

Fantastic hotel located by the Santander beach with very helpful and friendly staff. Hotel room has modern interior and comfortable bed. Area near the hotel is very quiet at night, so I had good quality sleep. Internet is not that strong if you need to work or attend video conferences like me, I ended up using my mobile data. Additionally, I was missing a kettle to make myself a coffee in the room, other than that, I enjoyed my staying and would definitely return.

Got to visit, you really must.

The young ladies at Reception were really exceptional and this was one of the best hotels we have stayed at in Spain. Beautifully updated without losing any of its charm or originality. And the location was awesome too with those surfing beaches a two minute walk away. And Santander was fascinating and worth every minute.

This is the second time I was in the Sardinero, and confirmed all of my excellent impressions of the first time. Great hotel, very good and comfortable rooms, great neighbourhood, and excellent deal for the price.

Nice place and very convenient for Brittany Ferries travellers. Disappointed there was no main restaurant open for evening meal - only cafe/bar and and car parking at 17 euros a night seems a bit excessive - other hotels are free. However, pleasant, comfortable stay and very nice friendly and helpful staff.

Loved this hotel and I would stay there again if I was visiting Santander. Staff were very professional. Reception staff printed out my boarding pass and passenger locator forms. Rooms were cleaned daily, lots of toiletries and provided in rooms including soap, shampoo, shower gel, hairbrush, cotton buds, tissues, disposable razor, sponge, shoe cleaner, sewing kit, face masks, body lotion, shower cap.

Mediocre but practical

This was a rather bland, boring and tired hotel without charm. There was no valet parking on offer, no bellhop, and it almost felt like an AirBnB experience at times. The room was modern and uninspiring - like the business hotel it is. The location is fantastic though. Would try another hotel next time.

Nice location, clean and very well equipped.

The hotel it is very well located, I consider it very expensive according to the conditions, services and dates booked.

Air conditioning didn't work and needed to switch rooms. Internet was extremely slow and unreliable. Spent hours trying to use instead of enjoying the beach. Great location but the facilities are lacking.

Excellent hotel, right in front of the Sardinero beach in Santander. The room was large, clean, looking new or recently renovated. Parking is available on the hotel itself, also spacious (no risk of scratching your car at all). Good cafe for breakfast (better to avoid the "breakfast included" option in all European hotels, at least until normal buffets are back after Covid-19 -- the breakfast options are very poor).

Construction!

The road leading up to the hotel portico is closed. There is construction on the west side of the hotel that starts at 7am everyday. It was a terrible way to wake up. The hotel was kind enough to give me an upgraded room on the east side for my last night there. However, they still have not published these two major inconveniences. I’m back in Santander at a different hotel this time!

Very clean and well-maintained property. Nice spacious bathroom with a good shower. We had a room on the 3rd floor with a nice view of the beach but a small window. Try to get a room on the 1st or 2nd floor. These floors have big window doors. I realize it is low season but the breakfast area was closed on Monday. You could get a breakfast in the cafe but that is not a buffet. The staff is ok. They are friendly but they still can learn something in hospitality. I am not saying they do not do their best but it is missing the touch that you might expect from such a nice property.

Location was incredible - right next to the beach. The room, breakfast and service were exceptional. Definitely will stay again and recommend it whole heartedly.

Clean, large and mostly comfortable accommodation.

Clean spacious room. Noisy early in the morning as the room overlooks a supermarket and noise as a result of goods being unloaded. Very quiet at other times. Overall we were happy with this hotel and would visit again.

We loved yo stay at your hotel. It was clean. The view is beautiful and it is close to the ocean and the center of the twin. The staff were very nice and pkkite.

Gran Hotel Sandinero

The hotel is a little out of the centre of Santander but right across from the Sandinero beach. It’s a very nice hotel - well maintained. Thd restaurant provides a great fixed price menu, 3 courses plus wine & coffee for €24 per person. The friendly staff & restauranteurs around speak (some) English - but do try to speak even a little Spanish to show willing as it’s appreciated. The centre of town is easy to get to, walk, taxi, sightseeig bus or there is a cycle path. Enjoyed my team here.

Great Hotel in Salamander.

Great hotel in the best area of Santander. The only problem I had was the hotel wifi. My ipad would not work in the hotel thus I had to use the cafe or the sister hotel across the road, which was a great inconvenience. Non apple devices, phones work ok.

Great place to stay

We have stayed at Hotel Sardinaro three straight years. The location is quite good near the beach and walkable to town (albeit a long walk). The rooms are very nice and the service exceptional. If we go back to Santander next year, we’re sure to stay there.

Beautiful hotel, superb views of the bay and the casino, nice people. The only downside was the breakfast buffet. They had disposable table covers on top of the linen ones, which were not changed after every customer anyway. The hot food looked dry and tired as it was sitting on open trays instead of covered containers, and the coffe was pretty bad. Otherwise lovely room, big bathroom, beautiful hotel.

A hotel that would be perfect for a weekend break.

Barring a mediocre breakfast offering this hotel was faultless. Well positioned just across from both the promenade and the casino, spotlessly clean and with good sized rooms which boast comfortable beds and a generously sized bathroom which had an excellent shower. Whilst we never ate in the restaurant we did have some drinks and snacks from the cafe attached to the hotel and which was of a high standard. The staff were terribly pleasant and very helpful throughout. Excellent WIFI and only 10 minutes by taxi from Santander Airport.

Fantastic view, friendly staff, good food

We had a great beach view at the front of the hotel. The room was spotless and spacious, and the staff were very friendly. Room service was prompt and the food was very good, right down to a wine list in the €12 - €21 range that was superb value for money. We would definitely recommend staying here.
