Would absolutely stay again
Pretty good hotel, would stay again!
Room was very nice, clean, and well cared for. Bathroom was excellent, especially the shower. When your in a hot place like Thailand, you will be taking showers often it was nice to enjoy the experience. Toiletries were well stocked and we were not lacking anything. Breakfast had a moderate selection and was ok, but nothing special. One thing we didn't like about the experience was that on our first day, we arrived before the check-in time and although the hotel staff allowed us to leave our luggage in the lobby until later, they didn't lock it up. When we arrived a few hours later (after exploring Chiang Mai), we found our luggage in the same spot where we left it, right next to the entrance of the hotel. I brought up my concern with the staff and they said they were watching it. Considering there were only 1-2 people at the check-in, it would have been easy for my luggage to be stolen. Thankfully nothing happened.
I would give this place all the stars if they got new mattresses. I read the reviews and didn’t listen . The mattress literally is like sleeping on a sheet of plywood . Definately not worth the price for that . Pool also has poor seating options and get little sunlight . Wonderful staff and great location though
This property was very close to the street market and any street food that you want to enjoy. As well as many options for restaurant eating. The staff was extremely helpful. If I had any complaint at all, it would be that the mattress on the bed was pretty hard but the location is perfect!
Loved the location and there was a street market right across the street for quick dinner. The room was good and spacious, nice sheets, etc. There were some building noises but not anything so loud or bothersome. Included breakfast was nice but not my favorite - I'm a little picky with food. Solid hotel overall.
The place was OK. It has a great view of the fireworks at night walking distance to a local shopping area.
Great!
Excellent on every level. Helpful staff clean rooms.
Hotel id good but surrounding is not clean and feel unsafe.
Property is in a convenient location. One minute walk to Old City, Chiang Mai Gate, lots of restaurants around. Hotel breakfast is good, thumbs up ! Front desk staff very helpful. Hotel is a bit old but very clean and staff are friendly. Will stay again.
Quite adequate for our needs.
I love The Golden Bell. I've stayed there twice in the last year, for a total of 2 months. The staff is exceptionally sweet, helpful and caring. They're a joy. I can't say enough about them. The hotel is very clean and well-maintained. The complementary breakfast offerings are a great way to start off the day. The hotel is located one block from the main street, so it's very quiet. It's also one block away from the Old City, and a couple of minutes walk to a lively food market, where you can find all kinds of great Thai street food every evening. It's also within easy walking distance of both the Saturday and Sunday night markets. On top of all that, it's very reasonably priced. I highly recommend it, particularly if you're traveling on a budget.
Great area to shop and move around
I really enjoyed my stay. Everyone is nice. Place was clean and quiet. I definitely recommend staying here. Thank you
The walls were paper thin so it was hard to get rest but staff were nice
Good location.
Great option just steps away from the old town. Rooms are big and spacious, we even had a small walk-in closed. Good soundproof windows and blackout for a nice and dark sleep. Breakfast was ok with some asian options, breads, fruits, salad and they will prepare you an egg of your option. They also provide free bottled water during the day. The small pool is a good add for relaxing after a long day and the free bicycles available are a great perk! For the price, this hotel is a perfect choice.
Not far from the Old Town gate, convenient for Moto rentals nearby, but the streets are a bit old. Breakfast is okay . Acceptable for just one night, but if staying longer, there might be better options elsewhere. Nearby massage parlors are quite good though.
Great stay. The pool was a perfect size. Great food for breakfast. The room was great and had AC. Walking distance to the old city and the weekend market which was absolutely amazing!
I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. Clean and comfortable to come to after long sightseeing days. I recommend this hotel and would stay here again.
Excellent location, big rooms, nice staff and fair price.
It was clean, safe, quiet. Breakfast was good. Nice attentive staff.
Always friendly and helpful
Our first night wasn’t good, the bed creaked loudly making it difficult to move without waking each other & the ac didn’t work very well. We went on an excursion & came back to a different room which was great. The hotel was close to amenities & street foods but we didn’t find it noisy. Free access to bottled water 24/7 was an unusual and welcome bonus. Would stay again
Best hotel
Excellent location Excellent service very kind and always helpfull with a smile Best breakfast ever !!!! Nice clean pool Very nice room and wifi Highly recommend
Very honest. Forgot my wallet after checkout and didn’t realize for a couple of days. Called and it was waiting at the counter with all of the money inside. A highly recommend. Thank you 🙏
Located just south of the moat, this hotel is fairly central and close to several shops and outside food stalls on the northern side of the moat. A short walk due north through the town takes one to Wat Chedi Luang, a major attraction in the city.
Good staff I May have had a bad room but found it very noisy till late at night then noise again from 6am. also a nasty drain smell in bathroom
Neung was fantastic, helped me check in early, answered my questions, and made my checkin and stay easy and enjoyable. Free breakfast was basic thai fruits, rice, meats &c. Nescafe wasn't my favorite, you might want to buy some canned coffee like birdy instead. Real plumbing for hot water in shower and good water pressure, not inline heaters like many hotels. Location is convenient, across the street are many small vendors. I found a pharmacist, got a dentist to replace a broken invisalign retainer, a barber, and even a bite at the snooker place next door. Easily a top favorite for value, location, staff.
Great property and staff.
Rather noisy at late night
The staff is awesome people to be around. Always willing to help.
Good
Nice hotel, good value for the price. The air can is not much cooling and breakfast is poor. Besides these, I recommend.
Beds comfortable, staff very personable and accommodating. Location is across from old city down a street, very walkable. 2 night markets at your doorstep. Pool wasn’t heated and too cool to swim in end if Feb.
Great location in the old city in quiet area.
Bed sheets were so clean and smell so good. Closed to market to enjoy local foods.
Great position near the moat. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Nice pool with a few sunbeds.
This place was very comfortable! It was in a quiet alley, right across from a lively street market for shopping and delicious food! The hotel was well maintained, a little outdated, but overall, we enjoyed the stay!
Great location - just outside the Old City walls. Very friendly staff. Very nice rooms. Great breakfast. Also, love that you can borrow bicycle, allows you to discover much further than walking. I like so much the hotel I extended my stay.
3 star
Came back after my last visit in 2019. The only issue was the wifi connection for iphone. No issue with Android phones. Good spread of bfast. Will come back again definitely.
The hotel staff was extremely respectful, helpful, and patient. They took the time to help me with my thai language skills, booked tours, and showed a general concern for my well-being.
Staff were friendly and helpful
Nice little hotel in great location
We arrived at 3am and were able to check in then which was great. Great location. Breakfast was good - got loads of food. Pool was nice and clean. Rooms were a little dated but clean and spacious. Shower was great with lots of power. Bed not the most comfortable but for the price it was fine. Staff were lovely and friendly.
I loved my stay here. Very good location and the pool is clean.
The location nearby market and the walking street its good.
Great location near Old Town
This little botique hotel was great. It was nearby lots of fun food carts and within walking distance of interesting temples and cafes in the old city. The pool is small, but nice. The staff is friendly and speaks English well. The only problem was the bed was a bit firm for my liking. Otherwise.... great.
The hotel was clean and well maintained. Breakfast was okie and the staff is very friendly,
Great affordable place to stay
Great place! The hotel is just down the street from a small local market with great food. The breakfast at the hotel was superb and the room was very clean.
Can be better
Goldenbell hotel was in a great location. It was 1 block from the old city. The night market was across the street. The hotel was off the main street so it was more quiet. Staff was very helpful and the room was basic but clean and felt very comfortable. The breakfast was included . You cal always find something that your palate likes. Highly recommend it. The price was also nreasonable
2 star
Lots of red ants in the room. And was charged breakfast for my 4 yo child. Expensive
A little Gem.
Great location. Great hotel!!
The staff was very helpful with fixing an air conditioning problem. Dimsall was informative about the area. The only reason I didn’t give the property a higher rating was that it is getting worn down. I’d still stay there again. Location was across from a great food market.
Good value
Small hotel with great staff. The breakfast was nice and we got room service for dinner one night which was tasty! The room was a little tired but we slept well and the shower/wifi was good. We had a few ants near the fridge too.
Great staff make you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Bedrooms are spacious with good A/C. Bathrooms are well equipped and very clean. Nice breakfast with Western and Asian choices, plenty of fresh fruit and salads. Hotel also offers a car service for private sightseeing at competitive rates with very knowledgeable drivers.
Just lovely staff that coul not do enough for you. Fantastic location, literally a few yards away from the night food market, and yet hidden away down a quiet street. Free bikes to ride around the old city. We had a deluxe room. Slightly bigger, and enough space to not trip over each other. Would definitely recommend. Great price too.
Location was great next to the main gate where they sell food and clothes everyday. Also 5 mins walk front the Saturday night bazaar.
Had the good fortune to choose this nice little gem of a hotel for a great trip to Chiang Mai. Facility was clean, service was great and the front desk staff were very helpful with information, taxis, etc. Very convenient to the old city. I would definitely stay there again if I return.
Certainly rang my bell! A very reasonably priced, with breakfast included, this hotel has it all; good food, lovely helpful staff, clean spacious rooms, sml spa pool, close to markets, shops in one of my favourite locations in Thailand.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great centralized location.
I loved the location - just outside of old City and easily walkable. It's set back and off the main road so you don't hear traffic. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Clean, very kind staff, pretty good location, quiet
Great hotel
This hotel was a great find. Friendly, helpful staff, a large comfortable room, a good breakfast, fantastic location and a great price. I wish there was a Goldenbell in every city i visited.
The location was great, close to local street food and good massages. They are about 15 minutes from the airport. Taxi from hotel to airport was 150 baht (approx. $4.85 US currency). The staff was amazing and friendly. The breakfast buffet was small but had a good selection. They also had someone there make fresh eggs, omelette, and bacon. They had an in room safe, which I think is important when you travel.
Nice location near chiang mai gate. It is in a quite lane, but just few steps you can reach the night market. This cozy hotel have very frendly and helpfull staff. Free wifi is good. Information was provided when needed. Highly recommended!
Little gem in a great location
The hotel is in a great location for walking into the old town and night bizarre. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and well equipped. Would definitely recommend
Great hotel close to everything but far enough say to be chilled. Happy, helpful and friendly staff.
Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Rooms were clean and location was within walking distance of old town area.
Very helpful front desk...staff. Jenny and Olive...
You pay for what you get at this hotel, meaning it's rooms are quite basic. The lobby and surrounding areas are very nice and clean and is probably a cover up for the rooms. Rooms were quite grubby with the bathroom being very dirty. The room was cleaned during our stay, with the bed just made up and 1 bin emptied out of 3. Cold showers for our 3 night stay and apparently they could not fix the hot water. WiFi almost non existent in the bedrooms. This hotel appears to make their money on extras - losing a key card will cost you 200 baht. A bottle of beer is extremely expensive in the lobby bar. Pool is nice and the staff are friendly.
Perfect stay
Very good value hotel. Breakfast is ok. Room is quiet and very clean.
Nice hotel just outside the old town
The room itself was really comfy, clean and spacious. Breakfast was tasty, staff were friendly and helpful and the pool was great. Location is the best thing about the hotel. It's right beside the big Saturday night market, ten minutes away from the Sunday night one and about an hour's walk to nimman, a more trendy area with shopping centres.
Lovely hotel walking distance to all the main sigh
Hotel lovely and staff wonderful. Was a great place to stay so near to everything. Breakfast was good, a great choice.
Great hotel, convenient location, friendly staff
We originally only planned to stay a night, but extended our stay here. Even though we arrived before check in time, they were able to accommodate us and even upgraded our room. Room was very comfortable. Staff was extremely friendly and have is nice recommendation on where to eat. Pool was nice to hangout, and breakfast was good & convenient. Definitely recommend staying here.
The hotel was well situated and the staff was friendly. If you want to save some money on transportation then use Uber! The pool was nice but a little too chilly and there was a faint sewer smell when we were in the pool area. The room was nice, clean and the beds were comfy. My only issue with the room was thw shower temperature was constantly changing, getting too hot and then too cold, but this seems to be a Thailand issue and not necessarily just this hotel because we've pretty much had inconsistent water temperature everywhere we've stayed at here in Thailand.
Such a Wonderful Surprise.
The GoldenBell is a budget hotel that is clearly doing things right. I was without my wife for this portion of our trip so i did not want to spend what we might normally spend together. We have top status with a few major chains and have been very lucky to visit some of the nicest hotels anywhere. This being said I was so pleasantly surprised to see how professional, enthusiastic and engaged the staff were here. They were always helpful and appeared to enjoy their jobs. The hotel itself is somewhat hidden down a street just outside the walled city of Chiang Mai and not far from the Airport. The facilities were all clean and in great working order. I personally find it so disappointing when things do not work as they should but here based on the cost per night I would have been more forgiving. No need all was great. My room although not overly large was very comfy and clean. The bed and bedding also were better than average. The breakfast was another pleasant surprise with more than I expected on offer, including a decent K-Cup type coffee machine plenty of fresh options and even an egg station where each morning the jovial chef would set you up as you liked. My educational background is in Hotel management and international hospitality so I am always interested in talking with staff management and other guests. At the GoldenBell the vibe was great all around. The Front desk staff is top notch, ready to be of assistance all with wonderful smiles. I hope to bring my wife back.
Nice stay
Took the deluxe room and it was nice and large with a view over the pool. It's good to have a sofa and chair in the room. All the facilities are good and the service is excellent, always smiling faces and very willing to help in any way. Breakfast had a fairly good spread and was always sufficient. Nice stay.
Small and friendly hotel in perfect location
Only 10 minutes drive from the airport. Small hotel within 5 minutes walk of Chiangmai Gate with its street food and markets. Customer service was excellent throughout the hotel. Room was clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The swimming pool was small but ideal for a late afternoon dip. We had 5 lovely days.
great little hotel
great location good food great staff
Amazing little gem
Amazon from then moment walked in . The staff are exceptional from front desk to cleaners. Lovely stay with nice pool and all amenities needed
Lovely Place
Firstly, the staff were amazing - very polite, friendly, informative and helpful. You couldn't wish for better. Our room was a great size but was let down by polyester bedding, a broken closet door. The shower room had a partially plugged shower head and the basin tap had it's chrome stripped off. Both the tap & shower done the job though. Breakfast was a good mixed spread to cater for everyone. All in all, a good choice of hotel in an excellent central location but far enough off the main road to avoid traffic noise. Highly recommended.
Seems a bit overpriced.
Solid place for a short stay! Near night market.
Great place to see the center of Chiang Mai and have great food nearby. Very, very nice staff. Great service.
Perfect Staff & Service! Very Clean & Spacious Rm
The staff is fantastic!! Location: close to the Saturday Market and old city to visit the temples. 10 minutes walk to Sunday Market. It will take 20-25 minutes to walk to the Night Market area. We just took Tuk Tuk (100 Baht) - very easy. Avoid room 101 to 103, which is closed to the pool, if you want to take an afternoon nap. Some inconsiderate adults talked loud. Kids shouted and very selfish parents won't stop them. Very annoying! Apart from this, overall is excellent! I will stay there again when visit Chiang Mai next, but will certainly avoid these 3 rooms.
Good location & friendly staff
Reasonable hotel. Good breakfast & friendly staff. Bathroom not clean properly despite advicing staff of the poor work. Linen looks dirty & grayish i.e. not white.
KEEP THIS HOTEL A SECRET
From the moment I walked into The Gilden Bell, I knew it was going to be a first class stay. Wonderfully warm staff, excellent rooms, lovely breakfast and perfectly situated away from the main road but close enough to all that Chiang Mai has to offer! Oophs - forgot about the pool - great for a dip with lounges around ready for that read or rest...... off to mountains now to teach!
Good location off the main street.
Cosy hotel located near to the market with lots of food options nearby. Love its location as it's off the main road thereby lending some privacy and quietness. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the breakfast is great with a decent spread. Staff are ever friendly and helpful.
Awesome location + facilities
Hotel is in a lovely location near the Chiang Mai gate which is walking distance to temples and night markets. Facitilites were clean and comfortable with an awesome breakfast offered! Would stay there again!
A homely hotel!
We were made to feel really welcome and really felt relaxed and at home here - hotel is nothing special as far as building goes but the people working there make it feel like a palace. A great location as near sights, staff help to tailor make day trips and it has a lovely pool which is rare in Chiang Mai hotels.
Nice hotel, great location lovely staff Thankyou
Excellent, thoroughly enjoyable in all respects. Lovely room, nice breakfast, good location
Very nice and supportive staff. Location is excellent, within walking distance to several Wat (pagoda) and night market. The room is clean and comfortable. Towels need to be changed to brand new though, they look a bit old. Also if more dishes are added to breakfast, it would be nice.
Must stay this hotel!
It was my last hotel to stay in Thailand. I personally think this hotel service quietly is much better than 5 star hotel. Clean room and good breakfast Very kind staff and good location as well. If I will go to Chiangmai again. I will definately stay this hotel again.
Nice Hotel with free bicycle
overall very nice hotel with the amount paid. however the breakfast time should extend abit longer until 11am because some of the customer prefer have brunch. The breakfast food was ok in overall. nothing excited. providing free bicycle to us is really a good service of all.
Nice place and walkable to places
Right by Saturday night market. Walking distance to sunday night market as well as other tourist places.
Welcoming hotel close to Chiangmai gate
Once arrived we were so warmly welcomed and it was so during our stay. The welcome snack has been brought with some soda. The staff is all nice. The breakfast is good, with variety (new potatoes every day). The cook presents, doing omlette, sunny side up and noodles. Canteen is no so big - once we shared a table. Coffee is from Nescafe machine - ok. Located near to the Saturday Night Market, everyday market between the road, some 711 and tesco nearby. The pool is not big, but they have a bar where you can order a beer or a cocktail. Also you can take a bike (quite convenient). They have a tipbox on the reception.
Friendly staff, great location, good price.
Pool was beautiful and the rooms were simple, clean, but perfectly and tastefully presented at check-in and again each day. Hotel employees were very helpful whenever assistance was needed, whether it be with sightseeing, restaurants, laundry, or simple foreign currency exchange issues. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Friendly small hotel
Very welcoming staff. The reception helped us to book excursions and could pay the hotel direct so really easy. Really nice feel to the place, and because it is small you get to know the staff Handy for food, straight across the street and also right next to southern side of the old town Would definitely go back.
Perfect location, across from the South Gate.
The hotel is very modern with hot water in the room. The staff is very detail oriented and attention to detail is the norm rather than the exception. For the price this property is a steal. After a long day of sight seeing the swimming pool is marvelous. The breakfast is plentiful with a mixture of Asian an European favorites and bountiful fresh fruit. The restaurant serves room service and the dishes are very good and about half the price of comparable restaurants in the area.
A breakfast
