Nice hostel with helpful staff.

Really enjoyed staying here - kind of funky, an accommodation with personality. Free soup every night is a great touch and much appreciated. Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, good communal kitchen and other spaces.

Loved the rustic look of the place but didn't appreciate the neighbours banging doors and windows until late at night.

Fantastic location easy access to restaurants, supermarkets & all walks & hikes. Accommodation was exceptional in cleanliness & lots of kitchen equipment free to use available - would definitely recommend

Location is good. Breakfast and soup great. Very limited parking on site, if you come late all spaces are taken and park somewhere on streets. Very limited Wi-Fi. No internet after 7pm - system completely overloaded. In night time ants come in hundreds. You will find them in morning covering all your food (

Very friendly place but very basic room. Sadly my room smelt of wet dog and the window catch was broken so i had to secure it using a wash bag! Free soup, popcorn and breakfast is a nice touch.

Was an amazing stay, didnt expect to get welcomed so friendly and we got taken to a pizza bar for dinner. Definitely a place to stay!

Fantastic little place. Room brilliant and very quirky. Bed extremely comfortable. Great location to amenities, shops etc. Free soup in the evening and breakfast in the morning was a very nice touch. Didn't use the hot tub as we arrived late and it was about to close for the night but it looked awesome. Absolutely loved this place.

Benjamin, the property owner, was absolutely amazing! Full of really helpful advice on all things Franz Josef and surrounding area. He will go out of his way to ensure that you have a wonderful trip, advise you on good days out/hikes and other excursions. He's always around, and so approachable, if you have any questions you won't feel afraid to ask them. He also makes an amazing soup every night, which is great and really unique amongst the hostels we have stayed in on our journeys. The other staff working there were also really friendly. Excellent location, parking was good, room was comfortable, and other guests were all very welcoming too. It has the feel of a really nice little community. Great hostel to stay in.

The stuff was very friendly

Lovely staff a good kitchen & lounge 👍. However 1 toilet & 2 showers (both weather-beaten) between approximately 16 adults was a stretch. Also no bug screens anywhere. Free soup & breakfast appreciated however.

Benjamin the host is welcoming and friendly. He runs the accommodation efficiently and nothing is ever too much trouble. He provides a good breakfast every day and veg soup from 6pm which is welcome after a day out hiking. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here. Also, his assistant Jackie is lovely, always helpful. Thanks for a great stay.

Cool spot in beautiful location.

I had a great stay. The owner Benjamin was friendly and takes care of his guests. The room was comfortable with a tv, en-suite, fridge and everything else I needed. The hot tub was a nice bonus! Located in the middle of town and I could walk everywhere, the glacier was a short drive away

Easy to find and it's close to Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier. Very friendly staff. Nice and clean just great for an overnight stay.. Very affordable an free parking just outside your room.

Friendly staff everything is there Free breakfast and soup for dinner just rounds it all off especially for the price And normally there is even a hot pool to sink into after seeing the glacier and other walks Would definitely stay here again

Good value base for Franz Josef. Comfortable room, not luxurious but perfectly fine. Appreciated the free veggie soup in the evening and breakfast next day. Would book again.

Friendly place to stay

Quite a good atmosphere at this place. And they have friendly services like free popcorn and vegetable soup in the evening. Just wish there wasn’t 1 toilet and 1 sink for 8 people. Also can be noisy in the summer when the windows are open and people are sitting directly outside.

A pleasant surprise

I was very impressed with the cleanliness of our room and how much space there was in it. Wasn't expecting to be offered evening soup or breakfast. We booked this as a last resort but were very happy with everything it offered. I even exchanged my book for another one. Well done glowworm!

Older motel-type accommodations. Room was clean, bed was ok for comfort (firm mattress). Reception staff were very helpful for planning things to do (our heli hike was cancelled due to rain).

Amazing home feeling with the delicious evening soup, unlimited popcorn, breakfast and great staff!

The front desk staff is super helpful and knowledgeable. Benjamin helped us figuring out how to make the most of our visit to the glaciers and a hike at Okarito beach. Unfortunately the room looks worn down and the internet is extremely bad (forget about using it after 5 pm and 9 am). The place is more hostel than hotel. We stayed at the single room with ensuite bathroom and we felt it was overpriced for what we got.

What a wonderful place to stay!

As soon as I arrived to check in, I was greeted with friendly staff. The gentleman who checked me in always greeted me when he saw me come & go, and he even remembered my name. I stayed in a private cabin with private bath, which also has a sink, fridge, microwave, hot water pot w/ coffee, tea, milk, sugar. My room was sooo comfortable, esp. the bed and the duvet, which helped me get some much needed rest & sleep. There was also strong wifi in my cabin. There was free breakfast, as well as free soup every evening. There’s a self-serve laundry room with washer & dryer, and you can buy laundry soap at reception. The hostel is next to the Wildlife Center, and just a short walk to all the restaurants and the grocery store. This place has a quiet & chill vibe. With the excellent, friendly staff, the comfy room, the chill lounge & common areas, I absolutely loved my stay here!

Amazing stay

This place is awesome! Fully equiped kitchen, full of board games, hot tub, free popcorn, free breakfast, free vegetable soup at 6pm, tv room and a fire place, friendly staff, etc. It was a perfect place for my stay in Franz Josef

Average hotel for price. Small room with minimal cooking facilities ( microwave) however there is a community kitchen as well. Bed comfy though and nice linen. Location good if you want to walk to a bar or restaurant.

Great little place in Franz Josef. Amazing value for money. Very backpacker style and you get to meet a lot of travellers. Everything is basic but available. Wifi gets spotty when lots of people use it but still functional. As long as you dont expect luxury, its a great place to stay. Not noisy at all. Stayed in the private room with ensuite.

Brilliant hostel, worth staying in!!

Brilliant hostel, with friendly helpful staff and plenty of things to do there. Also extremely close to all attractions with them been 10 mins at a maximum to walk too. The facilities in the hostel were brilliant and it's clean to a high standard. I'd recommend to anyone staying in franz Joseph for anytime. Also no steps at the hostel so easily access for everyone!!
