Overall, we have a good time at Cabot Trail and good night in this accommodation.
Restaurant was closed while website stated it was open until 9pm. No other options at that time of evening. Resort was moving to off season status and should reduce their room rates. Doors and windows need replacing and plumbing upgrades.
Over priced and room stunk like mold
We loved our stay at Glenghorm! We had a suit that overlooked the ocean and it had such beautiful views. The staff were friendly and the food was good!
Really nice place, I recommend it
The staff were friendly and the view lively. The facilities need updating and repair.
I would say this property was "very rustic" and the photos on Expedia are not reflective of the experience.
Staff very friendly
Shower hardly worked more of a dribble than anything. Rooms are super outdated. Beds were comfortable though.
It was average for the area
Need to update the gravel road and the building. View was nice but that is it
Everything was lovely. We enjoyed our stay. The only thing in our room was the tap in the kitchenette would not stop running.
Not a resort at all. More like a motel next to the beach. Needs and update.
This place is a dump. Room was filthy and smelly. Recommendation : Pray, Pray, Pray for a category 5 hurricane; collect the insurance; then plan for a different vocation.
Room we stayed in while obviously had a renovation, most things didnt work properly. Lights very dark, gad to us phone lights to help see, sink drainage extremely slow, shower water tap installed incorrectly. Waste a lot of 'hot' water which was really cold water on hot water setting. Beach setting was lovely though.
The beds (both) were so hard we were in pain we couldn’t sleep through the night my sister ended up sleeping in the car just to get a decent sleep I ended up having to soak in tub just to try getting the pain out of my body this goes to show how much this hard bed caused me pain as I never take a bath in tub travelling always a shower
Generally clean. Bathroom ceiling paint flaking and had the appearance of mold. Bathroom sink drained slowly. Buffet breakfast below average. Better to go out for breakfast. Dining room average for dinner.
I thought this was a lovely place. Beautiful beach area. a little dated but very clean and staff was very friendly at check in. Dog friendly which we liked also. Very spacious room. Bed was a little hard for me but I would stay here again. Very convenient location for our hikes.
Frendly staff
Age is showing!!! Shower water pressure was sad Towels were lovely! Bed linens were fine Musty smell in upper apartment … carpet needs replacement ! Sofa bed was so lumpy, unusable! Staff were very good.
I like that it is on the water with easy access. I didn't like that there was no fan in the bathroom, that the outside light illuminated the bathroom at night. Closing the bathroom door was not an option for us. I would stay again.
The lady on the front desk was very friendly and accommodated our request to change rooms at the last minute. Good food and service in the pub for supper. Unfortunately no lunch service available. The room was clean and had some upgrades but is showing its age. Beds were comfortable but the walls were thin in our building.
Beautiful setting, but hard beds
Other than the beds, which were worse than old university dorms - like sleeping on plywood - it's a nice place. The service was pleasant, and it was very clean, although it smelled strongly of bleach. The setting was lovely, right on the ocean. We appreciated the little kitchen suite.
Check in went very smoothly. The room was very outdated. Fridge made a terrible noise. Bed was low & uncomfortable. Taps were backwards. Water temp was hard to control. Don’t recommend for the price
We stayed at the Romantic Cabin. The cabin was at the beach. The scenery was breathtaking. We saw a seal in the water. The cabin has been renovated and cozy. The site is rustic. The staff is over the top friendly.
Nice hotel with a beautiful beach, will be there next summer
Room was clean and quiet. The air conditioner was on when we went in and the room was cold. This was not necessary.
Our room was comfortable but has been well used. I found the bed ok the first night but hard the second. Breakfast was good but cost extra. I’d give Glenghorm 6.5/10.
Facilities are older than what I have expected
Wouldn't stay there again
We had a room downstairs right next to the parking, so it was very noisy all night with people coming and going. Also, the room was very dim, with just one lamp between the two queen beds. Our friends had a room upstairs which was much better with big windows. Unfortunately, our stay was not pleasant as some guests were loud and obnoxious throughout the night.
The motel is dated but upgrades are being conducted and that shows. The bed was really good with exceptionally warm comforter and embroidered towels, new floor. Once the bathroom is complete it will shine I’m sure.
Friendly staff,
Easy check in. Restaurant available. Rooms are large. Beautiful surroundings.
Our garden room #107 was dated but very clean. The beds were comfortable and we slept to the sound of the waves! The resort was not busy so we were able to drive right up to the beach and watch the waves from a bench. Someone with restricted mobility could enjoy the view from the car. There is no easy access to get down to the water level, the ramp does not go all the way to the bottom so I had to go around rocks and jump down a few feet and then climb back up a big rock, but I was able to manage with good shoes on and making my way slowly. The beach is very rocky and water shoes would be a must to avoid slipping on rocks if going for a swim. The resort is dated but owners are making some updates, they were building new decks for the cottages close to the ocean while we were there. It was a fine stay for one night. I would definitely go back just for the beach view/access.
Should spend, money on facility and not on embroidery on each and every piece. Had bugs Was not a resort
Unfortunately raining so we couldn’t explore
Rooms smell bad, washroom not working, manager rude
Bad smell, washroom not working, manager rude
On arrival the first room had a smell mouldy and dampness. We asked for a second room, the only room left was more expensive in another 3 unit building. Upon arrival still some dampness but better than the first so we took it. After settling in we noticed couch and chair was not cleaned from the previous occupants. When the occupants of the upper unit arrived they were very noisy, we could hear running and if they were moving furniture. In the morning a woman waking her dog crossed on our front porch and looked inside and looked surprised that someone was there. By the time I opened the door, she was gone, don’t know if she was from the other 2 units. At checkout there was a large crowd and we dropped off the keys and left.we would not recommend or return to this property.
Pictures did not accurately reflect the room we stayed in. I don’t mind staying places that have their ups and downs but don’t falsely advertise
Room was in bad condition, mattress was old and uncomfortable. Bath tub faucet was about to break, we couldn’t take shower. Washroom is too small and bath sink is very tiny. Not worth spending money there. We ordered food for 4 people just fish and chips and it cost $140. Food has no taste
Tired badly needing repair and update
Great cabin and great locations. Enjoyed the beautiful galaxy and sunrise, will come again.
Beach access, large suite has separate bedroom w ensuite bathroom as well as kitchenette and large balcony.
Our chalet is in a spectacular location. The interior is clean and mostly in good working order. Sadly we couldn't get any hot water from our shower, but plenty from the sink taps. Very close to nature - like camping.
This property would’ve been lovey in its hey day but now it is run down, in need of a lot of work, for the cost it was very disappointing . Our building was 70 years old and it showed in the bathroom and the balcony seemed unsafe. The room itself was ok. The beach is the best thing about the property, ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Unfortunately very unsafe getting down to it, especially if older or have mobility issues.
It's an absolutely beautiful location that has sadly not seen the investment of time and money befitting the real estate and the price of accommodation. The cottages are in a sad, dilapidated state, as are much of the grounds, especially near the seawall. There is great potential for this establishment to be redeemed if the owners choose to do so.
It was really peaceful with beautiful scenery. The beach was amazing and staff were great!
Love that it has its own private beach! Staff were extremely friendly and we enjoyed the area.
We stayed in the two story building near the back of the property that was described as an ocean view room. We could see the ocean from the main window although off to the side. The room was generally clean and comfortable but the resort is clearly dated and in need of upgrades. There was evidence that some upgrades were being made at some of the cabins. There was rust on the bathroom window frame and the balcony floor was made of rough wood that was wearing out. There is a restaurant and bar on site although we ate elsewhere. We took advantage of the $15 breakfast buffet which was quite good for the price. If you were looking for something that’s not fancy and is a comfortable place to lay your head while you explore the Cabot Trail this might work well for you, but if you’re looking for luxury, this is not the place.
The room was rough dehumidifier in the washroom Drywall tape and mouldings falling off Power for everything in main room off one circuit Power went off Horrible experience worst room I’ve had in my life
Good for price. Room a bit old and smelly
ABC
Staff are very nice an friendly. Room is very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended
Location in the water was very nice however property is very outdated and room was in need of a make over Bed was extremely uncomfortable and small, not sure if a queen or double. There aren’t many options in this area so it served its purpose but wouldn’t book again.
Lights didn’t work, loud noise in the bathroom from the dehumidifier
We enjoyed sitting by the beach in the evening.
good in park
The room we stayed in needed updating and the beach front seemed neglected. There was a fun bar on site and a good breakfast was provided.
This is a very rustic area of Cabot Trail but we thought we were getting a cabin near the ocean like the photos showed. Instead we had a motel-like room at the road.
I booked two rooms for a getaway with friends. Their room had not been cleaned, there was no fire alarm. Their porch had cigarette butts and Pepsi bottles. Their room had not been cleaned and their pillows smelled dirty. My room, had a hole through to the outside. The deadbolt wouldn’t lock. You can hear everything in the rooms above you. The bed was ROCKHARD and when I sat on it, it broke. When I looked down it was clear it had been broken a while based on the damage to the floor. I did not address it until the morning because of the time we went to bed. I understand they are renovating but this place needs a complete gut with new beds. We asked to talk to someone the next day and have yet to be contacted about it. Beautiful beach but difficult to get down to.
Vety nice spot to stop for night
Clean, friendly staff, private beach
Great restaurant
Room had a smell, not sure if it’s because of the moisture from the sea. couch had stains and the green rug seems old.
With a private beach
Not bad but not the greatest.
No good
Loved the beach… beautiful view!
The word resort raises expectation. The property leads you to a beach, but don't expect chairs or anything else. You are in the wild Cabot Trail.
Close to the Ignoish beach .
The house unit we stayed in was clean, homey and it was a great location.
I absolutely loved this place, and I wish I had been here for more than just one night. The room was beautiful, it had a balcony, and I could see the Atlantic Ocean at a distance from my balcony. It was walkable down to the ocean the next morning for sunrise. The night that I checked in, the restaurant had already closed, but the pub was still going. Despite that, the pub was able to serve me lobster fettuccine, which was one of the best dinners I had on my trip. The beach resort is also close to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park visitor center in Ingonish, and it was close to two hikes that I wanted to do: Middle Head and Franey Trails. I was able to complete both hikes by 9:30 AM in perfect weather with maximum solitude.
I had a balcony with a view of the Bay. Sandy beach on property.
Very needy. Lots of garbage, run down units, entrance door that was impossible to open and close. The positive thing was that the receptionist tried very hard to fix the TV and bring us a lamp so we could read.
Coke cooler plus cooler thrown out back along with other junk.. not cool Rm102 sounded like a train stomping on our heads until 11 pm then starting at5:30 am.. Phoned front desk nothing was done Not recommend this place
A bit smelly
A little dated and possibly neglected a bit over the yrs. Staff were lovely and attentive
very good resort with nice location and nice staff, clean and quiet.
Frontline staff at the reception office is exceptional
Once you landed you didn't have to go anywhere if you didn't want to
Amazing spot, was super close to the water. Thebsound of waves threw out the evening and morning was very peaceful
There was someone above us and they were terribly loud stomping and walking around the room for an hour and a half at bedtime and did the same thing early in the morning from 7 until 830. Horrible night.
Perfect location for our time on the Cabot Trail. Clean and comfy accommodations
We stayed in a cottage. Rustic and basic but very clean, fully stocked and comfortable. Best part was the location with a beautiful view right on the beach. A bit expensive for what it is but would consider returning in the future.
Property was clean and had a private beach.
The Beach is very nice
The property was a lovely location, but poorly maintained. The laundry was filthy and piles of trash dotted parts of the property. The bathrooms were poorly done with fixtures hanging on the wall with caulk. Has promise, but kind of a dump right now.
Our room was comfortable and we enjoyed walking down to the beach. Several restaurants were close by (not walking distance).
The property was quite weathered. The inside restaurant and pub were quite good but the beds were hard and the outside needs a lot of work.
Friendly staff. Made us a nice fire by the beach
Nice location near water staff friendly and helpful room large and clean.
Beautiful location. Rooms need a bit of TLC but very clean and good size with mini fridge and microwave
Nice place cosy and go access to beaches
Nice access to the beach with no one, can sit there all by ourselves forever , for sunrise & sunset! Hotel room is pretty good, not the cleanliest but acceptable :)
Photos on the website were misleading, the room we stayed at had a water leak at the door, earwigs in the bathroom, dust bunnies in the corners. There was a damp stale odour when we first opened the door. Not usually complainers, but this resort did not live up to the images portrayed online. We stayed at several motels and sadly this was a disappointment. The staff were nice and friendly, and the towels were also very nice. The beach was picturesque however inaccessible because of a break wall and no stairs. We were athletic enough to jump down and climb up, but we saw other disappointed guests who were unable to enjoy the beach. Lovely area but would not recommend.
The staffs and owner are very nice and helpful. The property is right by the ocean.
Although the property has had its day they are working to renovate which will be wonderful when completed. The location is amazing. The bedding and towels are excellent unfortunately the bed was hard and uncomfortable. The people working at the property were very nice and cared about their job. I would suggest if you close the restaurant on Sunday or any other night you must say it when booking or on the site.
Front desk staff was welcoming. The room is tired and dated. Felt very rustic to put it nicely. Towels and sheets were nice. The highlight was Shirley in the dining room. A one woman show! Facility behind front desk cabin really needs some work. They are trying but areas felt unsafe especially for children.
