Property was clean, but rooms were a bit run down. AC/Heat was not working properly and was obnoxiously loud when used. There was no water pressure. Staff was asked not to disturb and the knocking on the door started at 10am on a 3 day stay.
Dirty, Staff was insulting and also charged extra fees.
If you can stay away from this property please do. First off the tub looked very filthy. The toilet bowl looks very disgusting with yellow stains inside of it. The sheet had a burnt hole on it. The pictures must be at least 15 years old. Room number 105 did not look anything like the picture.
Get Away from the Getaway Hotel
“Getaway is really two words. Get AWAY. Room 1 reeked of weed. The smoke alarm was screaming to change its batteries and then fell off the wall hanging on by a lone wire dangling like a bungee jumper in distress. The heater was loud and sounded like a transmission without oil. Room 2. Smelled better, better alarm , heater still growled and the tv remote didn’t work the TV. this is your last resort motel if you need a place to sleep after the Nassau Colliseum. my god it was bad.
They need it better cleaning services
This place is great for fugitives on the run who would like to lay low. At best the rooms are worth $50 or less ONLY to cover you from outside elements! The outside appearance is deceitful. The paint was peeling from the walls, ac/heat was loud with a small wastebasket beneath and bathroom water did not come through the shower. There was no rest in this space , just clock watching until morning. The front desk agent was also very rude and unhelpful. Avoid this place at all cost. When I asked the rep why I was given that room he pretended not to understand English . Waste of any type of money. Expedia should be ashamed to offer this on site . I’d like a 100 percent refund !
Room smells like cigarettes smoke
Ok
The room was heavily lived in. More of a low rent apartment. Sheets, towels, all stained. Still had last persons hand towel in the shower. Every wall had marks/ damages. Not worth $200 plus per night. Would expect for $60 a night
The conditions were atrocious and the staff was rude and not helpful at all.
What i like about it is the staff
It was a very bad night that i ever had, i dont recommend it .
Comfortable Enough!
My stay was comfortable enough but place was outdated, need some refreshing.
Nice clean
Decently priced, convenient location. Their lobby/sitting area had a sign asking us not to sit on their furniture. A place to sleep but didn’t feel terribly welcomed.
Had mold in the bathroom and sealing was falling in paint was chipping smelled room smelled like cigarettes
People are rude and the place had bugs which made me uncomfortable.
The need to update, clean and provide a good quality service for customers experienced. Broken furniture needs to be replace and the air conditioner unit inside too noisy and old. Bad experience!!
The bathroom was dirty, towels had hair on them. Bugs in the shower. Smells like weed in the room.
Their were Roaches everywhere I couldn’t even sleep they need to clean more an call a company to come in spray
The property used to be a nice local place to stay to be near my parents, but it has completely declined. Unless you're looking for a no-tell motel, stay elsewhere.
Property was convienent for our plans we had this past weekend. The young man that works at the front desk was exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Room wasn't as clean as we would have liked. We got parking right in front both nights we stayed over and felt better about this since we had a nice car rental.
Roaches
This is a really really rough area.
Totally disgusting!!!!
I was highly disappointed with my room. It was so disgusting and filthy. Left right away. However, I got there at 5:43 PM on 10/05/2024 I went to the front desk to demand my money back because there was no way I could sleep there nor could I breathe because of the foul odors and residual smoke odors. I was told I was in the room longer than an hour so I couldn’t get my money back. I wasn’t aware of any rules that states if I was in the room for more than a hour I couldn’t get a refund. The reason I was in the room too long was because I had to find other arrangements or I was going to sleep in my car. I left at 6:46, three minutes too late. I am disputing this lost of funds. I did take videos and pictures of the room. The dirt, bugs and the disgusting towels, sheets, pillows, rags and spiderwebs with bugs.
I don't have any nice words or pictures to describe my stay. Oh wait. One nice thing. 7-eleven was next door
For the location, the price, and the helpful staff- you can't beat it!
Sheets dirty. Staff don’t speak English didn’t understand
I wasn't expecting anything great but the location was so convenient for where I needed to be the following day. Check-in was smooth. It wasn't too busy (perhaps because it was a Sunday night); I didn't hear any noise outside while in my room. My only gripe is that normally I can take the smell of smoke, but it was pretty strong, as if it wasn't aired out once in a while.
This place is a dump. The staff is unpleasant and they don’t allow anything including sitting in the lobby.
Never stay here
Very bad experience, the worst part is the staff are very rude and unprofessional. They did not change the bedsheets from previous guests and they said that it’s not a 5 stars hotel to expect the 5 stars services. I asked them to change the bedsheets from previous guest they refused and was very rude to me. Room was very smelling and dirty, I will never book this place again.
All I have to say is that this hotel just need to be renovated all over again and it’s not a family hotel and the pictures doesn’t match the hotel at all it really dirty I saw big a roach the sheets is not white it’s brown the towels isn’t white either when I showered there’s hairs all over the walls I just think they just need to remodel everything all over again cause what I see i don’t understand how they still in business overall horrible won’t be coming back
Please don’t stay there even for free
Not impressed. No rollaway bed. Wouldn’t give extra towels.
It was clean and safe to stay at . The area was nice .
Very old beds I lots of noise came out from bed Baths need works Room needs love
Lobby was closed due to damage. Front desk was encased in security glass. Did not rasiate confidence. Used outside stairs and there were men standing and staring, very uncomfortable
I would like to get my money back it's to dirty
This is unbelievable very bad room
good location to travel from, but limited services on property, lobby lounge closed, but convenience store next door had good coffee and some options for quick take and go breakfast
I didn't get the room when i get there and have to look for another, then they called me at midnight. Asking if I going to be there, I said I have a room somewhere else
My stay didn’t provide a microwave nor a fridge as the advertisement offer. Property down-sized my room and didn’t adjust the expenses of my stay. I was locked out of my room my last night and went to front desk for a replacement key but front desk said they reprogrammed my key card but attempted to used the said reprogrammed key card again but it didn’t work. Called front desk repeatedly but had to wait over half hour which I explained multiple times I had to use the bathroom and couldn’t walk all the way back to front desk because I’m handicapped plus needed a restroom immediately. Front desk attendant came after I accidentally urinated on myself and was able to open my door. Received the 10:30am check out reminder call from front desk, I asked if I could be a little late as a courtesy due to my down-sized devalued stay because I was having some trouble getting an Uber to meet before 11am but was denied so I sat outside the room waiting on my Uber driver who arrived at 11:10am but I wasn’t inside the room and gave my key to manager at 11am when she came to the room due to the missed call for the 2nd 11am check out call. I was highly disappointed with my stay entirely and will not be booking here again.
It’s was bad , they are no frigid, it’s not really clean this is a motel
I wasn’t satisfy
No bueno
Last minute option
The guest receptionist was not friendly. The first non-smoking room he gave smelt like cigarettes, the lights didn’t work, the walls and bed sheets were dirty and the room just looked terrible. Went to the front advised him of my issues and he says let me go to the room with you and check it out. I was like no, I need a newer, cleaner room. He shakes his head and huffs, and gives me a room inside. This room was a little more better. Did t want to keep complaining, since I was only there for 12 hours. Will not be returning here!!! Merrick you can keep this funky place..
Smells cigarette
We had a dirty towel in our room. There’s this nasty smell so glad we were only there one night. We would never go back again.
Place is very shabby. Room was dirty. Bed sheet had stains
Customer Beware
The pictures online were misleading. Hotel was very dated and had a foul odor. The bathroom had mold on the tub and shower curtain. Will not reserve here again.
The rooms are nicer inside than the property outside. It was very mediocre. But as a last resort it is not the worst option. I have definitely seen worst.
Not a friendly environment and room was gross
All good to lay head extremely expensive for the basics
Dirty bathroom Broken pluming system Sheets with holes
Roaches in bathroom. White Towels were old , browning need to be replaced. Walls were dirty and scratched up. Toilet bowl looked as though it wasn’t cleaned in a while. Made the water look dirty
Very old and bed was very old and uncomfortable. People coming and going all thru the night with doors slamming shut. My bath towel was dirty and the other towel had makeup on it. I do not recommend.
The lobby elevator light flickers. Constantly. Literally constantly. Like in a scary movie. Its cartoonishly a sketchy motel from the outside but the rooms arent half bad. Clean and pragmatic, about what i could expect. The front desk guy was pretty chill, gave me some silverware for my takeout. The building however is decrepid and honestly hard to get comfortable in the building. Its a room, itll do you fine. If you can afford the difference to an actual hotel, its probably worth the peace of mind and aesthetics.
It was average
The hotel was dirty our rooms bedsheets were dirty I had to ask for sheets . It smells bad and very old. The bed had hair the bedsheets had stains like it was not washed, the pillows cases look like they didn’t change it after someone else just terrible
Horrible everything
Very close to road, very dated. No one at front desk for check in. Glad it's only one night.
Sub standard...
Lowest priced hotel for a reason... very old, not updated. Extensive shower mold. Bathroom cabinet and shower door falling appart. The toilet struggled to fill up and flush was inefficient to say the least. TV issues with missing audio or signal not strong enough to broadcast. Stayed there 4 nights to be close to family. Only if you need a "cheap" place to sleep and can endure to the above... The area is in dyer need of decent hotel. Difficult for me to leave a one star... but appropriate.
Limited transportation
Clean rooms, it served the purpose for one night.
I got two rooms. The service was very good and the price too. The rooms were clean and neat, however in one of the rooms, one electrical lamp on the wall wasn't working and a desk lamp was very hard to push the button to turn on/off. The bedcover on one of the rooms had like a coffee spill (?; I didn't say anything) and on the other room there was a wet spot about 4" in diameter on the bedsheet that I noticed when a water droplet fell on my arm - it seemed like a leak from the ceiling but it didn't continue through the night. We left the single person stay here, he slept on the dry side. We told the front desk before going to sleep. They did not offer to change rooms.
The accommodations were basic for the price paid.. the rooms are obviously used for public housing. There was a kitchen table in the room… many people wandering in the parking lot after midnight… we did not feel safe we never stayed. We did not sleep in the room. We went home.
I've stayed at the Gateway before and I never seen it look this way. Looked run down, the room wasn't the cleanest with some dirt left by the door the rugs and sofa were stained and felt moldy. The place overall needs some work - If I didn't check in early evening I would've looked for another place. They need some work
At checkin i was required to remain in the security box between the outer door and the door to the lobby. I don’t know what kind of security issues they’ve had there so that was understandable at first. But i was made to stand there even after i had providided my license and the with i had reserved the room. Despite asking to complete the transaction at the lobby desk, I was required to stay in the box. The clerk had to fold the rental agreement 3 ways in order to stuff it through the slit in the window so was unable to read what i was signing. Had he let me into the lobby he could have simply passed the form through the larger window there and i couid have read it before i signed it. Only after i signed the form, which i was unable to read, and he gave me my key did he let me into the lobby. I'm all for workplace safety, but making me stand out there after i had identified myself and forcing me to sign a form i couldn't read made no sense to me. The clerk could not explain why he was doing that when i asked him.
The bed spread and pillows in the room were filthy. The floors looked like the weren't swept in days. The heat didnt work and it was a cold night with a very thin bed spread. Overall awful experience at this motel!
Marijuana smokinh and filthy rooms
The room l had was non smoking yet the room next to me was smoking Marijuana all night. It seems like they have people living there full time. The rooms were filthy and from the 70s or 80s, paint was peeling the bed was uncomfortable and the bathroom was falling apart
The room had a horrible smell of cigarette smoke. The bed stained with blood and urine stains, unpainted walls, the toilet with noise and the shower not cleaned. the bedroom floor with urine stains
First of all the smell of smoke was bad that we had to go and get spray buy a few of the oder eliminators. The walls were terrible peeling,
Place looked so sketchy as we entered our room immediately felt no safe we turned around and immediately checked out
The beds were broken and rooms were Philly, bathroom tubs were dirty and floor was so dirty and slippery the box spring and sheets were not clean at all. Your paying almost $200 a night the out side of room smelled like urine it was disgusting and the staff thise Indian men are so damn rude and disrespectful
The hallways are dark and scary the hotel needs a paint job and brighter lights the elevator is small and shaky. Didn’t like that the lobby was closed
I did not like this property. I was so scared to use the shower because there was so much dirty water pouring out of it. I have asked to house cleaning but all they did was the beds. There’s no microwave in the room. I have go outside to get back in the lobby to use microwave. It was ridiculous! The attendant was rude and not friendly. He was questioning my reservation because I have my kids with me. It was Terrible
Sheets had blood stains, bathroom has mold infestation and dirty. I have photos of proof is needed. Very loud heater. Loud surroundings
Both bed broken, floor dirty and slippery front desk start gentleman rude and nasty. The rooms are disgusting, paint falling off walls, box spring stain and dirty. Smells like piss in bathroom toilet and tubs but cleaned properly. Waste of money and expensive for one night
Property is ok but front desk not helpful. Tried to find out how to get there from the airport but they were not forthcoming. Had to Google directions
Decent place for a night cap
Horrible! Rooms were filthy: hair on the floor, blood on doors, floor not swept. Housekeeping knocking rudely before checkout, mold in shower…. Photos and reviews inaccurate. Was really not as described and poorly maintained. Will not stay here again.
This hotel is really run down, rooms are small, not a good stay
We have been staying at the Gateway Inn for decades. It is a modest place with few amenities, but always clean, quiet and safe. The courteous staff on duty 24 hours a day is always there to answer questions, print boarding passes, etc. You can’t beat the price! Request second floor courtyard room for a peaceful night’s sleep. Go up the road three miles to the Sunrise Diner - best one around!
The location
I booked a king room and they wouldn't let me in the room because I have a service dog
Didn’t expect much for the price. Old room with lots of wear and tear. Bed was squeaky. But room was clean including sheets, towels, toilet, tub. Got a place to stay in Nassau county on short notice for about $100, I’ll take it.
Check-in was awkward. Guy was behind a bulletproof window and I could barely hear him. This hotel is in Merrick—a very nice area, so this was a bit concerning. I lived in Merrick for 26 years and this little slice of Sunrise Highway did NOT feel like the Merrick I remember. Stayed two nights. The first night, our room phone started ringing around 12:45 AM. Weird. The second night, we got back to the hotel around 11:30 PM and there were 4 police cars in front of the hotel. Our room wasn’t the cleanest either. The top comforter on the bed had a huge red stain which looked like paint or ink, but was disgusting. The shower was beat to hell. The air conditioner had gigantic layers of dust in the vents. Saw a couple of beer cans in the parking lot too. During check-out, dude was asleep with a sleep mask on, completely out of it. I get it—it’s the overnight shift, but ooof, not the best look as far as safety! This is one of the cheapest hotels in the area, so if you want cheap, this is it baby. I wouldn’t stay here with a young family, with kids, or with your significant other. If you need a cheap place to stay for a couple of nights for business, or to see friends, then this could be the place. If you’re an older couple, want comfort, cleanliness, and a feeling of safety, look somewhere else!
this is the most disgusting place in Long Island, the bed is nasty, and scuffed and dirty walls, and leaks, this place needs to be closedown, I couldn't stay, OMG stay away
For this hight praices they have, rooms are dirty and smell ,walls need painting, mattresses are filty.
Rude front desk manager. Pictures didn’t match the actual hotel. Fees for early check in not stated on website. Overall not the experience I was expecting.
Room was dirty, the bed sheets were stained, walls was dirty, the guy in the front lobby 9/16 around 8:00pm was very rude about the stay and told us to leave if we didn’t like it.
Pictures of the property don’t match how this place actually is. The room smelled, toilet had pee stains, the bathroom door didn’t even close, the beds are super old, the ac in the room wasn’t working right and management was really rude. I will never be back at this place.
The beds wasn't clean. The sheets wasn't clean. The sink leaks. Staff is friendly and respectful.
Rooms were dirty bathrooms doors don’t close the pictures on the website are nothing like the hotel our door barely closed and there’s no second lock bedsheets were dirty and the front desk person was really rude said if we don’t like it to leave this is a -1/10 hotel
I didn't like my stay at all! I left early, at 6:30 in the morning, because of how dirty the room was. I asked to switch rooms they told me “theres no other rooms” but everyone received different stories. (We went with a group of friends) Also, the toilet, bed sheet, bathroom, and towels were dirty. I didn’t feel comfortable staying there. Staff was really rude and didn’t care how we felt. Also pictures didn’t match the room. It was a catfish room.
Place was very dirty terrible service my box Spring was broken not a good place to stay not a pleasure very bad do not Stay
Disgusting, stains on the mattress, sheets blanket, walls , shower curtain , toilet didn’t work. Terrible customer service. Looks like a drug motel. Pictures are not accurate, do not waste $. A/c didn’t even work.
Oily hand prints on the wood headboards. Crusty white stuff on bathroom door knobs. Signs to not sit on lobby furniture. No drinking water station or fountain provided.
Nice
Gateway Inn | Hotel in Merrick | Travala.com
We were in a first floor room. In order to plug anything in,I had to move a dresser. Every wall was chipped. And/or rusted. We asked for more towels. Front desk said ask housekeepers.. housekeepers said as front desk. The bath towel was no bigger than a cloth diaper. And we never got anymore.
