I rate my one night stay as good value for money. If budget is the main criteria, you will find this place ok. Several positives as follows: - less than 5 min walk to a tube or train station - fairly clean - good communication - fridge and desk provided - private bathroom - rather warm room temperature (you might want to adjust the radiator as I did) Cons: - it’s located by a main busy road, therefore don’t expect silence (spare pair of disposable ear plugs provided in each room)
Check in was easy, and the overstay for a night was alright given the price, though I expect cleaning to include the entire room and not just the overall appearance, since opening a draw with old pretzel crumbs and droppings isn’t the most pleasant thing to see. The walls are quite thin, but the noise is tolerable generally. Not a bad place for a short stay, staff prepared the key and information quickly for us to know how to check in or if we had any issues, how we should contact them
maybe just had a bad room. ear plugs on bed side table suggests noise complaints pretty common. alot of flushing toilets and super noisy fridge, traffic (but tough to avoid on main road I guess) and plumbing makes weird gurgling noises alot. cleaner between nights one and two could have been a bit more thorough also. but otherwise generally fine and the managers very nice.
Friendly staff, easy access to room and close to underground tubes.
I found the property to be clean and very well kept. The management and staff were very helpful and accommodating.
Close to tube station and supermarket. A basic hotel but served our requirements for a couple of nights as in a good location.
I stayed prior to undertaking the London to Brighton bike ride- I sorted out parking with the hotel- my numerous questions were answered promptly. (I changed my arrangements close to the booking). Marius at the hotel was extremely helpful- and the parking was very straightforward. The room was spotless, and it was great to have a fridge. Shower was hot and the bed was comfortable. I left very early for the bike ride and accidentally left the key and some of my belongings in the room. Marius and the cleaning lady (sorry I don’t know her name) we’re very helpful. Highly recommended hotel.
Gateway Hotel Balam
Good room, comfortable bed but the bathroom was ver tight as was access to the dressing table because of space at the end of the bed. Also located on very busy and noisy road but did supply earplugs
Overall good stay
Good hotel services overall. Quite a noisy location by the street however. Used the ear plugs😉
Great rooms at good price
Great servicing of room. Great facilities - mini fridge is great idea! Good bed and bedding. USB charge points great too!
Room got warm with the window closed but the traffic noise made us close the window to sleep. Trains and traffic were tolerable after about 11:00 pm.
Amazing property, free parking and a short walk to Clapham South underground station. The hosts are fabulous and so accommodating! Lovely apartment, clean and welcoming. I would definitely stay again
Lovely hotel
Yet another good stay here, lovely clean rooms and spacious, easy self check in and plenty of new food places opened recently nearby.
Very helpful staff, clean room, great transport links
Convenient for transport links
Satisfactory
An acceptable one night stay.
Decent
For price its decent but its super tiny and the shower is tiny and has mold in the soap bar area. Friendly staff at check in though
Had a streetside room. There's almost constant noise of traffic, but as long as there's no honking, it is like white noise. The room was bigger than expected and super clean. Nice shower. Check in and out was perhaps the easiest I've ever had. The tube is a block away and there are ample food (both grocery and restaurant) choices around.
Really good value
It's a 'no-staff' hotel - so a minor faff on check-in working out how to get my key - and I couldn't get the telly to work ('needs re-tuning' was the onscreen message - but I didn't have the wit or patience to do that) - but apart from that - all plain-sailing and an excellent hotel for a very attractive price
Small room on main road near cafes so convenient for overnight stay. Adequate facilities. Couldnt book for 2 nights as i wanted and no breakfast for a room costing about a hundred pounds so not value for money imho.
Nice and easy check-in, getting to room was straight forward. Lovely and quiet even with a bar next door playing music didn’t hear it at all!
Good london base
Very helpful and friendly staff. Clean tidy room with decent size fridge . Parking in london at reasonable rate. Vety happy
Fantastic drink selection
Good, would stay again.
The hotel is on a noisy road and you can hear the rumbling of the underground most of the night and early morning. So you won’t get a good nights sleep. It’s close the underground station and public transport so that’s convenient. The reception is not so inviting and austere…the rooms are neat and have everything you need…
Great apartment
Stayed in the apartment for a night as we were volunteering at Clapham Common for Moonwalk. Great base really close to the tube and a good range of local shops and facilities The apartment was very clean, well equipped and the perfect base. We were able to get our room just after 2 then head out for lunch before relaxing for a couple of hours before heading out. Having the full and well equipped kitchen was great as we stocked the fridge up with goodies for our late return and the makings for breakfast in the morning.
Good location, clean room, friendly staff
Great location, close to tube so easy journey into central London. Local area has plenty good places to eat and drink and close to Clapham Common. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean. Room was comfortable and very clean with tea/coffee making tray and fridge. The bathroom and shower was quite snug but all facilities were good. Was worried there would be traffic noise but didn't notice it and they supply earplugs. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel.
Great value for money
For the price this place is fantastic. You even have a fridge in your room and a great location. Wouid definitely stay again
Perfect location lovely clean apartment.
Very good value for money will stay again
The hotel, was very very clean and easy access to cental London.
Hard beds tepid water
This hotel is super clean of that I’ve no doubt but the beds are rock hard and the water is tepid. Nothing makes up for this at all in my mind, it’s the e basics of a 3 star. When I also requested a room with a bath I was told there was one and I could have it but no one told me that the sacrifice would be the northern line underground rumbling under my bed until I finally slept in the early hours. This could’ve been flagged up as shower only beats noise pollution all the way! I get the feeling the owners of this hotel treat it purely in money and earning potential terms because they do not seem to care much about their guests
This is good value for money. A clean tidy and comfortable property in a good location for local South London meetings or to access the city. The costs are significantly lower than in the City. Suited me perfectly.
I’ve stayed here twice before and this time was the best. I had an upstairs apartment with more square footage than similar hotels. Big kitchen and living room with two windows looking on to the street below. Separate bedroom and a shower with excellent plumbing and no fuss staff that left me alone. No issues whatsoever. Thank you Gateway. I’m sure I’ll be back!
Lovely stay just need to sort electrics out 🤔
On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly lady on reception. We were given a room below ground level which was lovely & clean & even had a mini fridge which was great! Nice large bathroom but the bed could do with a mattress topper as i could feel the springs . All was fine until our last night of stay when all the sockets in room cut out ! Left it as was so late & no one on site during the night to speak to . By the morning everything back on & working until after about an hour of waking up everything went off again! Went to reception on our departure to report the problem but no one there til 9am which was too late for us so left .
Property is in a great location with a tube station just up the road, several grocery stores and cafes also very close.
Clean, comfortable and convenient!
All good. Ear plugs not needed if double glazing closed Tiny but functional bathroom
Great stay, 1 night perfect for what wa looking for, clean and self contained. Great friendly service :)
There was a strange odor in the bathroom, rather like cat litter. I couldn’t find a source but it was unpleasant to say the least. Otherwise, a comfortable and serviceable room. I especially appreciated the small vanity desk, mini fridge, and coffee station.
Quaint little hotel with easy access to buses and the Underground. It was under renos so we didn’t see how it would look normally. No front desk in the evenings. No elevator and stairs to rooms.
Clean, convenient and good value for money. The hotel is on a main road and next door to a pub so in summer with the windows open is noisy. The area has great access to a variety of restaurants, coffee shops and bars in this vibrant area of London.
Good location
We only stayed overnight- had early flight next day. Comfortable and good location. Nice pub next door. Not far from Clapham junction train station. Nice area- near Clapham common.
Nice hotel, good location
Hotel is in a convenient location for travel to Central London. Hotel doesnt offer breakfast but there are plenty of cafes to the left and right of the hotel which are very good. Hotel rooms are a little small but are more than adequate for a weekend away. The room we had was a double en-suite at the front of the hotel. It was clean, had plenty of tea/coffee and toiletries for our stay. We stayed two night and although we didnt expect it, the room was cleaned and made-up again for our second night which was a nice touch. The room was at the front of the hotel and being a hot night, we had the window open which meant there was some noise from the trafgic and nearby pubs but after an exhausting day in London, we were not disturbed for too long. Overall a very good hotel at a reasonable price with great facilities and super transport links.
Close to public transport and supermarkets
Excellent !!
The man at reception was very nice and so helpful! I arrived a little bit earlier but he gave me instructions of what to do for check in. He was also very friendly Really good value for money. Tube station about 2 minute walk from the hotel. Loads of shops nearby Only downside is that there is limited parking spaces however I called up 2 days before and luckily there was spaces available and the guy booked it in for me Overall excellent hotel and will definitely be coming back again. I recommended saying :)
My friends and i were in town for the 2023 Moonwalk and needed a convenient place to stay following it. The hotel was great in that they contacted us and provided us with an earlier check in time so we were able to get a few hours sleep. The apartment was as described clean and functional with everything we needed for an overnight stay. Check in was simpke. We really appreciated our early check in. In the evening we enjoyed a short walk to Balham for a bite to eat. The Gateway was a perfect choice for us. Thankyou
Stayed at Gateway for an overnight stay in London and it was everything I needed it to be. Received a warm welcome (even though I was expecting to self check-in) and the room was clean, comfortable and had a very good bed. The whole process was easy and I will stay again, it's very close to Clapham South for the Northern Line and has an array of shops nearby. For the location and standard of the room the price was good quality. The only thing I'd recommend would be an upgrade on the shower, but it worked fine and won't in any way affect my decision to use the hotel again in the future
Bed and pillows very uncomfortable.
Will defo stay again. Great communication even greeted personally despite being later than I expected. Thanks to all there.
Excellent location
Good value hotel in great location
Great location near Clapham Common, tube stations into cente of London, and pubs and restaurants. Very comfortable room - good wifi, good heating (in mod-winter), compact but great bathroom, comfy beds, quite spacious. Good value for money for London. There was no reception desk and check-in was by key using a key box code but it all worked well.
Overall, we had a good stay. I’d stay it’s on par with a b&b or hostel, rooms are very small without some basics (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) but it’s very close to the Tesco. Nice short walk to Clapham South. Only negative is that one night our ceiling started dripping and woke us up at 1:30 - we called the emergency line to no answer. I’m assuming someone found out we called because the next day when we got back someone had been in our room and made the bed and took the cup of water despite the do not disturb sign on the door, but completely unsure as no one checked up on us again and the drip stopped so we didn’t follow up. Overall, good stay for the price just wasn’t comfortable with someone coming in our room when we had the sign on the door.
Just right
Visited family in Clapham. Just right for what I needed. Clean and confirtable. Would use again.
Cosy
Small room but nice, clean and fairly quiet. Very short walk from Clapham South tube station
Lovely hotel
Always a great stay here, nice clean spacious rooms.
Room we had was quite large and comfortable. Towels were provided every day as well as tea/coffee/milk replenishing. Only little shortcoming is that room is not that thoroughly cleaned-bathroom and room should be washed more property. Also a couple of bulbs in bathroom were never changed. Having said that, hotel has great potential, and is situated in a quiet and safe area. It is also next to an underground station.
Affordable stay, room cleaned daily, staff very kind and helpful. Good location. One small issue with bad odour coming from bathroom otherwise a very pleasant stay. Would recommend !
3 day stay.
The Gateway Hotel is ideal for travel around London and surrounding area. Short stroll to Clapham South underground. Marius welcomed us with our room key cards. My friend and I had booked a double room each. My room 18 was small but had everything I needed. The bathroom is very compact! I don't think 2 people would have been comfortable in this room. I took my own earplugs as the hotel is on a busy road and you can hear the tube trains below and I slept well. My friend had a larger room 20 (accessible), modernised, with easy chairs and more storage. Both have small fridge which is really useful and a fan (essential as no air con) Daily housekeeping was good and the rooms were clean. A basic, no frills hotel, ideal as a base and we will definitely stay again.
London Bike Ride Perfect Location
Very good service, our friends staying with us couldn't reduce the length of stay online but when we got there they weren't charged for the day that they didn't use (we had messaged the Land Lord). The only fault was that we couldn't get the shower to work at a comfortable temperature, it was far too hot. A great location for the London Brighton Bike ride
Great if you like the Smell of Bleach
The room absolutely stank of bleach, thought someone had died in there, effected your eyes, you did not want to spend anytime in there, tried to get a different hotel near by but as it was fathers day everywhere was booked up, stayed before and it was fine, bed was hard but ok and it was clean, but just stop with the bleach, even the pillows stank of it.
Great stay for the price. Reasonable clean and great value. Easy check in.
Very recommended hotel
Very nice hotel , easy check in and check out , very clean and comfortable, great value of money , I had tea coffee biscuits in my room , every thing I was very clean 😊 Location is good also
Great value and convenient
Great modest property very close to South Clapham underground with pub next door, and several food and grocery outlets nearby. Clapham common is very close as well which give a huge greenspace as well. I'll stay here again!
Cold shower hard beds
I don’t see why this hotel has high ratings! The beds are hard and the shower was tepid and dribbly. This are the basics for a 3 star and they weren’t right - won’t stay again. The reception was being renovated and changed but there was no sign to help guests about this so I was left on the doorstep for a few minutes pondering what bell to ring or number to call. All it needed was a notice on the door! In its favor check in and out was dead easy, and the hotel was clean. Eco wise the rooms had easy to understand heating which helped but as said already a cold shower when you’re tired at night isn’t great. There was also no shampoo/soap/shower gel in bathroom, although a shower gel did mysteriously appear on day 2.
It was a good hotel. But my room was very small.
Customer service was great
It's hard to find an affordable place in London and this was perfect for us, not too expensive and close to a tube station. Easy commute anywhere in London. Special thanks to the stuff who let us in before check in time. After a sleepless night on a place it was a godsend, because we were very tired. This attention and going an extra mile for us means so much! Highly recommend this hotel.
Great stay, will definitely be back
Stayed 1 night in the Gateway this time, although I have stayed several times before. As always I felt comfortable and safe in the hotel. The room was beautifully clean and lovely and warm and cosy, just as I like it. Lots of plug sockets and USB points, tea and coffee making plus some scrummy biscuits. I love the way the hotel sends an email with checking in instructions- so easy and convenient (although it was dark when I arrived and I did have problems seeing the numbers on the pin code machine- maybe enable it to light up when it’s dark?). I stayed in room 6 which I found to be very quiet, although I was very tired and slept like a log. Lovely touches with the Carex hand wash and Dove shower gel. Ear plugs were provided too as were shower caps. Close to tube station and shops and local pubs.
Another good stay
Another good stay here, easy non contact checkin. Clean rooms good location.
Excellent
Friendly, clean and comfortable - stayed for one night to visit a friend. Will use this hotel regularly now. Also nice pub with good food right next door (Avalon).
Great location and value for money
For a hotel in central London it was exactly what we needed for a place to sleep after an event that didn't cost the earth. Cosy and quiet, and the bed was comfy. Will definitely use again!
Good value for money.
Check in is totally automated - no staff. Would have worked fine but my phone had a fault (not their fault) so we did not have the code and nobody answered the phone on the emergency number shown :-( Eventually got in by using the free wifi from the petrol station opposite to get the codes. Otherwise fine.
Was not expecting too much for the money paid in Londo, room was clean and fairly modern bathroom could do with an update but would use the hotel again.
Cheap and cheerful and great locu
The great thing about this place is the super friendly and personal service. It’s a no-frills place with an outstanding price.
Comfortable. Would definitely stay there again . Just remember to book parking as hotel.com don’t mention it !
Great place. Perfect little purpose made rooms, with clean fittings, and a very nice modern ensuite bathroom. Mine sorta was fitted in a cupboard, but it's still great! Everything you need including bourbon biscuits, good wifi, hot water, earplugs, and quality hot drinks. Carpets were new and clean, towels fluffy, and it wasn't as noisy as i thought it might be. I slept well! Keycards too for entry and exit. If i had to pick an improvement it would be a newer, slightly less saggy mattress. Best sixty pounds i've spent on hotels in london however.
Nice clean hotel .
Value for money
Simple, easy and pleasant stay
Short London Stay
The hotel was in the perfect location for us, near to everything we needed. The facilities were great and excellent value. Will definitely use again.
Perfect location, nice rooms and friendly service.
This property was exactly what I was looking for. Near to where I was working and absolutely perfect in that it was clean, tidy, the landlord was a top guy (Marius) and parking was brilliant. Access was so easy and the fridge in the room is genius. So needed whatever the weather. This is definitely going on my favourites list. Perfect.
Nice and cheap.
Clean and comfortable for the price. Would recommend as a cheap place to stay in London. Very assessable but tube and right next to Clapham South tube station. Staff were helpful although didn’t have much contact with them. There was a lot of noise outside from the traffic but they supplied ear plugs. Own fridge in room and can but can did not work.
Average stay
Wasn’t aware I had to book for parking so had to park on street then the next day I was allowed to park on-site which was handy. The bed was hard and pillows were thin and didn’t sleep much as noise from traffic outside which I know isn’t the hotel fault. I would stay there again just bring extra pillows and use the ear plugs provided to drown out the sound.
Overnight in London
Very good for the price. Good beds though bathroom a bit tired.
Property was ideally located, staff response and assistance was excellent.
Good, comfortable hotel
Lovely hotel. All covid issues dealt with correctly. The superior room was spacious, if a little noisy due to the road outside. The top of the coffee table needed attention, but a small detail and we are going to return the next time we visit our son in Wandsworth
Great Find
Amazing find for a great price, exceeded me and my friends expectations, would Definitely stay here again!
Perfect location for a family wedding in Clapham - we booked 3 rooms for various family members. The rooms were clean and comfortable and included a fridge, staff very pleasant. The off street parking particularly impressive for a property in London. Would pick this hotel for a future trip.
Clean and comfortable hotel!
Excellent hotel - clean, comfortable, great reception service at affordable rates!
For the price a very decent place to stay
Stayed in suit. very comfortable extremely well equipped and standard of cleanliness was excellent. Hotel in good location near tube station for Northern Line. Some good bars and restaurants within reasonable walking distance. Will stay here again
Okay
Fine, clean, customer service good. Decor very aged.
Great location and friendly staff - would recommend for a south London base
Great location, friendly staff
Staff are really friendly, and the location is really good. The car park is tiny, so make sure you book if you need parking. The decor is a little dated, but it's clean and comfortable. There's some noise from trains, but earplugs are provided if that's a problem.
Good room, very helpful and friendly reception.
Great stay
Yet another lovely stay here, had one of the newly renovated rooms on the top floor which was lovely and quiet and fresh. All rooms I have stayed in have been of a high standard. Handy for work for me and a lovely cafe over the road for breakfast.
Gateway Hotel Stay
Lovely little hotel, friendly and Very helpful staff. Room was large, double bed and a single bed, tea/coffee facilities and a very welcome small fridge. Beds were a little hard and could have done with a thicker duvet (December stay) but as very convenient for visiting our son, we will be happy to stay again.
Excellent location. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Overall a good place to stay
Disappointed
Room very small and en suite not big enough to move in. Towels not changed and as room and bathroom too small nowhere available to dry same
Gateway Hotel | Hotel in London | Travala.com
The Gateway Hotel is my favorite stay choice in London. You feel like a Londoner when you stay here. The place emphasizes your privacy. Once you get you key card you don’t have to go through the lobby again. IThe best location
