Graet spot near everything 👌 And the staff was very pleasant and helpful. A graet stay all around.
Clean a nice place to just crash no real amenities. Good of your by yourself.
Everything I was looking for!
The only issue was hair in the shower that was not mine.
Stayed for a couple nights and good location to walk all over SanFran. Breakfast is no more than toast/cereal/coffee. Limited options
Breakfast was supposed to be included and they said they stopped it last year but other than that everything else went fine
The hotel is old so you should expect it to look a bit rundown. Sadly they’ve cancelled their complimentary breakfast despite the message in Expedia saying it was running 7-10am. You can’t beat the location, however and it’s very reasonably priced.
Great in the off season. No a/c, might be rough in the summer.
Good except for…
Comfortable bed, quiet. My only criticism is don’t say “parking available” if you mean there is no parking except for concierge parking which is VERY expensive. Misleading.
We stayed because of the name of the hotel, as it is a family name. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Room was nice and had everything we needed. It was in a great area and we were able to walk or be picked up with ease.
Good value for the money, great location in Union square, 10 min walk to Bart, China town. Breakfast could be improved, adding more variety.
great place
Avoid at all costs
This is a two star hotel so my expectations were not high. The room was old but clean and the bed was comfortable. Good location although the area is now run down. The room was humid (in Jan) and I could only open the window about a centimeter. One of my fellow guests though on arriving at 7am that the staff had not laid out the breakfast but they had, Very limited breakfast, but included in the rate.
Great value
This is an old facility. That being said, it is well kept. Very clean. Some upgrades are in process. The bed was comfortable and the bathtub/shower tile were spotless.
Location is perfect. Staff is good. Clean rooms.
It was a good location even thought the hotel is very old and need some remodeling. But somewhat comfortable stay
For the location and price this is good deal, but don't expect a full range of amenities.
stay was great and so was staff
Extremely well priced in a great area right in the heart of Union Sq/San Francisco and the room was very clean with the bedding & towels having that laundry fresh room smell. Yes, the room was quite small but perfectly manageable. If you want a bigger room in SF, be prepared to pay five times more. Staff all super friendly. And all the complaints about a free - yes FREE!! - breakfast in a 2 * hotel are baffling. What do you expect - vintage champagne, lobster and caviar? Besides, you really should be eating at one on San Francisco's countless superb eateries instead of filling up on dry muffins and cornflakes. Great hotel, 5 * all the way.
Bad staff, parking advertised is not accurately represented and hotel staff just shrugged their shoulders about it when I mentioned instead of honoring what they advertise online.
Great location - very clean - good sized room. Breakfast was a nice extra.
I liked the services and good manner of the staff. Limitations found with bathroom door.
Hotel centrally located in downtown San Francisco, it's clean, nice mini fridge and microwave in the room.
was a great stay
The surroundings are unsafe and the service is really poor. There is no parking.
Great hotel in a great location.
Very friendly. Older hotel but that is what makes it unique. We walked a few blocks to catch the trolley to Fishermans Warf. Buy the daily pass if you are planning more than 1 trolley trip per day.
Was a historic building and other surrounding buildings
.
Convenient location, continental breakfast, friendly staff.
The Fitzgerald is a small European-style hotel in the heart of downtown San Francisco. Many of SF's main attractions are within walking distance, and the famous cable car to Fisherman's Wharf is two blocks away. If you'd rather save your money so you can spend it on food, sightseeing, (tour buses are available at Union Square). I'd choose the Fitzgerald.
Stayed here for 4 night, enjoyed my stay. Hotel is a bit outdated however for the price I can’t complain too much. Rooms don’t have ac but mine did have a ceiling fan, it’s gets cool at night in San Francisco so leaving the window a bit open helps maintain the room a reasonable temperature. Very close to union square, close to public transportation as well. I would stay here again. They were nice enough to keep our luggage a few hours before and after checkout which was great!
Old low budget hotel near Union Square.
This is a low budget hotel close to Union square, on the brim of Tenderloin. Old and run down. No ventilation in room. Very noicy both from inside hotel and outside. Parking in public valet parkinghouse on Sutter, cost aprox $50/22h. 2 minute walk back. Breakfast included is bagel,Philadelphia cheese, milk+cereals, coffee and juice. This is NOT for romantic weekends but rather a place to lay your head after a busy day exploring San Francisco.
The room was extremely small
It was a very cute, unique hotel.
This hotel is a hidden gem if you are going to sight see ! So convenient all transportation is within three blocks! If you don’t mind an older charming building with no frills, the room was clean and comfortable.
.
easy access, fast check in, simple comfortable rooms in a nice location
Too much strange people near to the hotel
Dont go.
No air conditioning on a very hot weekend. Was charged more for the parking than quoted online. The parking was two blocks away uphill.
Cutesy, would stay again
Cute place, nice staff but no air conditioning
Clean
It was good! Nice place
Elevators and dining room and breakfast is horrible
Great
Room & restroom was very small. Bed was very comfortable! TV was clutch with YouTube for rain sounds 😅 Hotel was close to a lot of stuff.
Good
Enjoyed would stay there again.
Good location, nice staff, valet parking possibilty
Decent enough bargain hotel. The ceiling fan was noisy and the sound proofing was decidedly lacking, including surprisingly loud street noise even when my room looked into a light well (not street facing). The elevator was very very slow or sometimes seemed unavailable at all. But I slept well and despite the slightly sketchy neighborhood I was near a lot of good food and attractions (typical San Francisco). I only managed to get the breakfast once (overslept the other times) and it was fine, typical budget motel fare. I would consider staying here again if the price was right.
Nice stay for a long weekend.
After reading some of these reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. Im not sure where the homeless disappeared to, but we didnt see any around the hotel. The room was cozy, but with it being a victorian hotel, I expected as much. The room didn't have a/c, but an open window was enough to solve the problem. I didn’t get any names while I was there, but all of the staff that i encountered were pleasant and helpful. The continental breakfast isn't something to write home about, but overall we had a great stay and I would stay at this hotel again.
Nice and affordable
Excellent hotel, comfortable and clean, with a good enough breakfast. I'm not sure about the eco-friendliness of it but they did have compost and recycling bins in the breakfast area. I appreciated the ceiling fan and comfie bed. It was quiet except for the elevator, ancient and clunky. My room was right next to it. Nothing for it but to ask for a different room should you happen to be placed there. I was there only one night. Would return.
Great
My room was clean and quiet. Nice cheap place to stay in SF
Best hotel to stay at this price
Close to transport links, possible to find street parking after 6 pm and on Sunday. Friendly staff
Good location. Clean and safe
The hotel doesn't have parking lot in their facilities so it's veey expensive at the end if you go with a car
Only problem with parking lot
Would not stay there again
Friendly staff clean room
Great Staff!
Very convenient area for all transit needs
The property where I stayed was very clean there's nothing like a clean place to sleep
Todo estuvo bien la persona que me atendio al llegar muy amable
The Fitzgerald Hotel was professionally ran by the front desk person. Breakfast was fresh and the hotel was clean. The hotel was in a safe place away from homeless and walking distance to most city attractions or public transportation.
Excelente, cuartos limpios, personal atento y amable.
Cuarto pequeno, camas excelentes, baño limpio, hotel antiguo pero agusto, el personal atento y amable, desayuno y sencillo pero rico.
Unique, fun hotel. After reading some of the reviews I was a little concerned about staying here. So I was very pleased when I arrived and the place was such a fun place to stay. The rooms (we had two) were decorated from a by-gone era, yet very well appointed. I felt like i had stepped back in time to a 1900 version of a San Fransisco hotel. We (two rooms) would definately stay here again.
The elevator ride is a bit difficult
It was loud in the night sometimes and since it’s in the San Francisco city, there were a lot of homeless people (it’s normal for SF but you should definitely be aware of that!) other than that it was okay, there’s no own parking space from the hotel so we parked at a garage which was 35$ a day and it was good! Fyi it was the cheapest one (it was on Geary street)
Quirky, friendly, and a nice walk to Moscone.
Nice older hotel. Interesting furniture in the rooms. Small european-style elevator. Friendly, helpful staff. My only problem was that the WiFi coverage in my room was not good. However, when I had to do a 4:45 am zoom call, the staff let me use an office off the lobby.
It was cute!
The daily breakfast is filling since hard boiled eggs are typically served.
Will definitely be staying again
What can i say about this hotel. Well, myself and my daughter came to visit and booked Fitzgerald. I was a bit dubious due to some poor reviews,i didn't have high expectations. When I arrived, i was shocked, the place was better than i expected. Rooms clean, breakfast was fantastic, eggs, waffles, cereal, toast, Loved it! Room service is fantastic.Rooms are old but it adds to the charm of the hotel.Hotel area is great, felt safe and everything is accessible. Ish was the hotel manager, we will miss this guy, he was so helpful and friendly. I will be very sad to leave here, would definitely come back again. Don't listen to any of the negative reviews, must be people that have overly high expectations, i couldn't find fault with this hotel. Thanks for everything.
Don't be put of by negative reviews

The property was old and a little shabby but clean and the staff were very pleasant and polite but the area around the hotel was very dirty and unsafe with people living on the streets.
This is a great property to stay for the price. It’s cozy and the location is walking distance from Union Square and Chinatown. Transportation from Muni, BART, and. Cable car stop is nearby. A liquor store is conveniently located next to the hotel for any water or small snacks or items. The walls are thin so you can hear people talking or leaving their rooms sometimes but otherwise it’s relatively quiet. Our room was near an alley so we were able to hear the noise from outside. This is a nice place to stay so I’m happy with this hotel for a short trip. Also an attendant is posted at the front desk 24 hours a day, making check in and late check in, in our case easy.
I was overcharged by this hotel. They also charged me for 3 days instead of 2. Very upset with this matter! Otherwise, I enjoyed staying there
This hotel was in an area filled with great restaurants and bars, all of which were walkable and easy to access. There is not a lot of parking but the hotel provides a promo code for a parking garage about one block away which was very convenient. The hotel itself is nice and the room was clean, but the beds were not the most comfortable. It is a bit loud in the rooms at night, but that is expected because it is in the heart of city.
Staff was great
the room was very small for two people.
The location was good. The wi-fi reception was bad on the 6th floor, so they switched me to a third floor room. The room was bigger and had a better wi-fi reception, but there were ants all over the bathroom. So, I had to buy a bug sprayer next day and sprayed all over the place. Breakfast they offered is quite limited; just toasts, apples and coffee.
Around this hotel was unsafe. A lot of homeless, weird people, I felt like someone hit me at any moment. Someone was walking on street only underwear. Elevator was very old, very hard to open and creaking. I walked on 3 floor by stairs for safety. Breakfast can hardly be called breakfast. Coffee, toast and cereal to water. Only one good think was apples and oranges. No parking lot, they offered place to parking for $30 (regular car) on place actually was 40. Room was very small, not much access to bed. Bathroom very small, from under tub water was leaking on flore during taking shower. I decided check-out early morning and find anything else even I loose money for it. Absolutely not acceptable place for me and it's waist of money.
We ended up in a room with a toilet that didn’t work, so it flooded the bathroom and bedroom carpet. (We were given another room.) Multiple room keys wouldn’t work for us either, so there was a lot of trekking up and down stairs. Breakfast options were minimal - a plain bagel, white toast, apple, yoghurt, or oatmeal. Hotel was not expensive, but in that price range for that area we could have done better: won’t be back.
Parking can be hard to come by but it’s within 15 minutes walking distance of the Powell BART station. A perfect stay if you want to go shopping around the iconic Union square or if you are attending one of the many concerts at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
Not well maintained but cheaper to stay.
Amazing view for location and convenient
Was great
Super clean and had a huge room relative to other small, boutique hotels in the same area. I’ll look for it again next time I’m in town. I’m a light sleeper and needed ear plugs because of the early morning street noise (garbage trucks, deliveries, etc). Gonna be the same in any small hotel in Union Square though!
Close to Union Square
Ok Hotel. You get what you pay for. Small rooms. Old and noisy (Hotel itself and surroundings), but great location. If you need a bed and a shower but also look out for your budget, you found your place.
Super good location, great deal. The room is very small and the window is to a inner well. Generally is very good for the price
Too noisy inside you can hear doors slamming people going up and down the stairs and noisy guess
Staff was good .wheeling to help and solve the problem quickly.
Staff was excellent.
Service and room were very good, but the area surrounding the hotel felt a bit dirty and unsafe, particularly at night.
The staff were lovely and helpful. The area was very noisy, with traffic and shouting outside, but could sleep alright with earplugs. No air conditioning in the room, so windows could only be open during day (for noise) to try to cool off the room. Overall, the hotel was rather "tired" -- but then it was much more affordable relative to others -- but in a convenient area.

Cubby comfort
Had good experience in the old hotel. My was small, but room was updated and clean. Lots of hot water in shower. Location is great. Bus transportation is near by.
