Overall facilities is good. The location is very convenience, near the Bund, shopping street and etc. However, I need to ask for help to find the hotel because it located in alley that look like private property.
The room size is small but it is location is close everything
Easy walk going around
The hotel in an alley accessible through Ningbo street, about 2 minutes from the East Nanjing metro su way exit 6 (Line2 and 10). Felt safe as it was in the same alley of Waitin police station (i think). Easy walk to the Bund and Nanjing East shopping street. We found the hotel clean, AC air smelled clean. Happy that they provided drinking water in the rooms and basic toiletries.
Nice location, near the bind
Finding the hotel is fun !
I could not find the hotel even with google maps as it’s down an alley so has no access to the door by taxi . They should say this and also there is no sign unless you have incredible eyes as one is a small sign in the alley ( which you are not looking for ) or the one on the road is flat so actually you can’t see this unless you walk on the wrong side of the road so i had to ask police for help. A sign would be BIG help and also to tell you , no car or taxi will drop you off outside - it’s only 1 minute walk to hotel from road.
It's very nice place to stay.
Great location, some improvements needed
Water was spilling out of shower, some bugs, dirty sink. Otherwise good location near Nanjing Road and steps from subway station
The hotel is in a gated street, if you don't pay attention is not easy to find with maps. Very noisy. Room is clean, bathroom no so much. Is OK for basic hotel
Not far from Metro and easy to transport. In room have facilities that you would like to use.
Was really great! Can be a bit noisy in the morning since it’s in the middle of the city but still an overall great experience.
Best for location
The location is excellent to the bund
nice location
Nice place to stay, very well located.
This place is very well located, just 3 minutes walking from Metro station line 2, or East Nanjing road. 10 minutes to the Bund. The area around at first looks not very good but I never felt unsafe. There are many restaurants and shops near the hotel. Staff is friendly. The room is what you see in the pictures, small and clean, with a small fridge which is very convenient. Good AC.They provide water daily. The window is a joke! not sure if "city view" rooms have a better view but in my room it was very small window to the backyard. Good internet access via wifi. I would stay again.
It locates in a walkable distance to shopping area.
Value for money
Seems overpriced. The room is clean enough but the hotel's surroundings do not match the room. The reception area is under whelming. Looks more like a smoky bar.
It's in a great location - walking distance to many sites, the room was surprisingly quiet, and a bonus to have so many little eateries just down Ningbo Lu. I plan to book again.
Great for the price!
This small hotel is brilliantly located just behind the famous Peace Hotel on The Bund. I can't imagine a better place as a base for Shanghai sightseeing.
Very short walking distance to East Nanjing Road Station Exit 6. Convenience. Budget accommodation with free drinks provided. :-)
The front Desk area/lobby - Look mess
Great location. Hotel was only passable, but the location is terrific. Hotel itself and staff, service, that needs work
quick check-in
Great location! Short walk to the Bund, pedestrian mall, food & bars.
Great location
I stay here every time if I go to shanghai, the location is the very good, only 5 mins walk from Nanning road shopping district & 10-15 mins from the bond, subway is 5 mins walk, lots of restaurants around... The hotel employees are very friendly & helpful
Too pricey for the level of services provided.
Pro: Close to Nanjing Road and the underground station. The staff of the morning shift were quite helpful. Free soft drinks in the fridge. Con: Requested a quiet room in my booking, but was given a room near the entrance of hotel & room door facing the lift. Was told there was no more rooms left. Hotel is in a neighbourhood area, so you could hear neighbours talked loudly & kids screaming at late night and early mornings. Booked a Supreme room, but it was nothing more than a basic room at a basic hotel. Carpet along the corridor were dirty & worn out. Room was ok, but the blinds to the bathroom was literally next to the single bed, which made a fair bit of noise when someone moves in the middle of the night. The staff of the late afternoon shift were not friendly nor helpful. This would be an acceptable hotel if it is a no star hotel, but it is supposed to be a 2-star hotel.
Central
Stayed for 6 nights 7 days at Fish Inn, just behind Daimaru and Nanjing Lu East , cant beat that location as it is center of the Bund and Nanjing street pedestrian lane. Id say the most vibrant place in the city... located along a small lane beside the police and post office along Ningbo road and subway station that connects to the airport. You enter a small alley w a guardhouse and few meters away you see right away this sign. It is a small building in a quiet neighborhood with a pleasant and helpful staff. Lobby is warm, nice cafe restaurant and room was surprisingly big w new renovations on bathrooms which was good.
Great little hotel in an amazing location!
We really enjoyed our stay of two nights. Very clean and friendly staff. Less than a 5min walk to the subway and about a 15min walk to The Bund. The only negative thing I can say about our experience was after we checked out and asked for a cab to PVG Pudong Airport, we were quoted 500rmb. We walked outside to the nearest major intersection, less than 5min walk, and found a cab that took us there on the meter for 168rmb. Would definitely stay there again! Fully recommend.

Though in an alley, the location is good. Close to exit 6 of East Nanjing station. After you exit, cross the street, turn right, walk straight and you will see a signage on your left after 100-200m.
the location of this property is very good and lobby area feels cosy. Access to the hotel is via an alleyway, not on main road. One down site is I found a live cockroach crawling behind curtain.
great room, great location, great price. great room, great location, great price.
Great location
Location is superb, very near Nanjing road pedestrian street and The Bund, and only a minute's walk to the Nanjing Road East metro station.
The location was good and it was relatively cheap. But the front desk staff service was not kind of cold. The room was small and facilities were old. Got dry throat in the morning.
Backpackers inn at 3star price
Metro station a few minutes away. Busy Shanghai pedestrian street nearby. Local food available on the other side of the street. Room amenities basic, but on the past prime era. Definitely needs an uplift.
Location was awesome, just five minutes away from Nanjing East metro (line 2), no transfers needed when arriving from Shanghai Hongqiao airport. I especially enjoyed the mini fridge in the room (P.S. all drinks are complimentary)! Staff were friendly and happy to help with requests, even when I had six parcels to mail out. There is a convenience store just around the corner. I was able to walk to most places during my short stay.
It’ good for me because private hotel and all staffs are friendly
Great location
Location is convenient but room is a bit small
Tricky to find but well worth the hunt. Great location! Get yourself some beverages from the local stores and bring them to the hotels great lounge/check-in area.
Great service. Great location.
Nice location and reasonable price. 1 min from metro station and right at the area of touristic places
Location is great
Short experience 2 days
Right in the old Shanghai center, casual walk to lots of shopping, cafes, and to the Bund. Took subway to largest Starbucks in the world, and pearl tower area, simple . Very quaint and quiet hotel for price. I saved extra spending money by not booking with expensive hotels. At first look I thought oh no in an alleyway entry, but very comfortable looking lobby and ambiance of Shanghai. So for me it’s about seeing the sights and being adventurous in travel not sleeping all day in room.
It ok
Location is good. Cleaniless need to be improved. Stuff there are quite friendly. Bathroom shower is in poor condition, water is either hot or cold.
Beautiful little hotel hidden in an alley. Would recommend
Convenient location to shoppin in the central city.
The hotel is dated and it needs a freshen up.Everywhere inside the hotel seems dark. The entrance to the hotel is in a dark alley off Ningbo road. Our plane was delayed and when we arrived in the middle of the night , the taxi driver was unable to locate the entrance to the hotel. We booked two single beds but they gave us a DOUBLE bed.We complained and were told that they didn`t have any other rooms left until the following day. Next morning they replaced the double mattress with 2 single mattresses. Overall the staff were very helpful.
Worth a stay
Great location. Nice refurbished room but tiny. Extremely helpful and nice staff.
It's the 2nd time we decided to stay here again. Because the hotel is very near to MRT Station which is very convenient for travelling. The room is clean and the staff is very friendly.
unbeatable location and good service
Good hotel near main shopping street and Bund
Very nice hotel. Easy to find. Entrance Is well advertized on the street. Only two streets away from East Nanjing Road metro station exit 2. Original lobby design. Quick check in, even that I was one hour early. Room was not too big but very practical, including a sofa and sockets all over the room. New bathroom. Good bed. All was super clean.
Excellent on all counts. We will stay there again
A fine little gem of a comfortable hotel located in a quiet alley close to the Bund one one side and to the excitement of Nanjing road on the other. Everything about this small hotel is unpretentious and cozy. It's a simple hotel that offers everything needed for a stay in Shanghai. We will stay there again and will recommend it to friends
Feedback on the stay
Hotel location is good, close to Bund, CBD with easy access to subway. However, the general condition of the hotel is not very satisfactory. The corridor is dimly lighted and neighbour hood can be quite noisy at times.
Worth your money
Good location, good service staffs ใกล้ร้านอาหาร metro แหล่งท่องเที่ยว เดินได้หมด อยู่บน metro line2 ซึ่งเป็นสายหลักมาจากสนามบิน Recommend this hotel
Not happy
It was fine. I had a dispute re cancelling three days which they said did not receive my email and charged ed me for days when not in the hotel. They were referred to a number in USA and told to call another USA number, which they could not do. Very unsatisfactory

Shanghai Stay
My stay at this hotel was very, very nice. It was a little difficult to find the place at night, but it's well worth the price. The location was ideal as it was walking distance to many of the highlights of Shanghai.
Needs some TLC
Central to The Bund. Reception helpful but cafe staff more interested in wiping surfaces than taking an order for breakfast or coffee. Room and bathroom clean but hallways very shabby.
Location has alley access only and is near the East Nanjing subway station. Room was small, but suited our needs, since we were there to sight see, not spend time in our room. Like many locations, you must insert your room key for electrical power, so room might be stuffy when you walk in at first. AC can be adjusted to whatever temperature and fan speed you want.
A nice stay in busy area in Shanghai
It was a nice stay and the service is good. The un-expected activity on weekends is not convenient for the tourists which i suggest to put a sign in advance.
Hidden little gem
i booked online and when I arrived I was told that no rooms were available. The hotel clerk upgraded me to a suite for no extra cost. Finding the entrance is a bit tricky: you need to enter a back alley and just when you start thinking that you’re in the wrong place, look on your right and the hotel entrance will be right there.
Terrible experience in shanghai, NEVER EVER.
Terrible and SUPER unprofessional staff, terrible bathrooms ! Not so clean rooms!! Totally non recommended to stay in a place even for a half a price !! Staffs of the hotel have no sense of hospitality. When I fell asleep at night, I was awakened by the sound of opening the door three times in the middle of the night. The third time I opened the door, I found that it was the hotel’s staff who were escorting another guest to to open My room door. The reason was just that the staff did not know that the room had Guests stay, and they are trying to break into the room. I never expected such an unprofessional hotel staff to be able to do so, and there was no apology Or remedy at all. Never again try to stay at this hotel. Forever.
Great place to stay in Shanghai
The room is neat and clean, the service is friendly, the location is great for Pu Xi.
Great place to stay in Shanghai Puxi
Excellent location. Friendly service. Clean room. Improvement suggestion: add frig to the room
Stayed here for 24 hour visa
This hotel is in a very convenient location. It is clean, comfortable and has a friendly, helpful staff. I would have liked to have stayed longer.
Good enough for budget
Good location, friendly staffs but they didn’t clean the room well, didn’t trash my bin, however, it is satisfied enough for me :)
Great location
The room was a little small but it was clean and the location was perfect.. super close to the subway station. The staff was so nice and friendly too! I highly recommend this place
Nice change for Shanghai
Great little work hotel in a convenient location to the bund and east Nanjing Rd . Excellent pricing . Helpful staff .Good coffee , hard to find in Shanghai .
Jewel in narrow market alley with 24hr security.
Location very convenient despite fish market alley, 60m walk to entrance. No breakfasts available due to “no suppliers” over Chinese New Year! Modern finish although small, helpful staff good (Eng) communication etc.
Loved it. Very quaint, and in a great neighbourhood. We only had one day because of a transfer, and this hotel was perfectly situated.
Fantastic service great value
This hotel is very comfortable and convenient at a budget price but the best feature is the really excellent and friendly staff - the best of any hotel I’ve stayed at in China. Very helpful and efficient with fluent English. The location is a short walk from the subway and Nanjing Road and the Bund are both very convenient. There are a few convenience stores and other shops on the street with plenty of restaurants and other shopping a few blocks away. The room was small, but the bed was comfortable and the tv has the cctv English news and international channels as well as Shanghai English channel. The WiFi in the room and lobby was free and worked well. There was a mini refrigerator and a safe in the room as well as a small sofa and desk. The only negative was the sound insulation for the door was not good when someone was in the hall outside the room but otherwise there was no problem with noise from traffic or other guest rooms. I will definitely make this my new go to hotel when I am in shanghai and highly recommend it if you are looking for a value priced option in this neighborhood.
Great location. Definitely a hotel for the independent tourist. If hold your hand tourism is your deal then this isn't your place. Great value for money. Staff were a real asset as their willingness to go the extra mile really made the stay worthwhile. Young and helpful, their english was a great help. Proximity to the Metro was a bonus and the hotel was easy to find despite what previous reviewers had stated (simply do a bit of homework). They had even installed an easy to find night projected image of the hotel's logo onto the footpath, a simple cost effective idea that really worked. Old neighborhood, but the closeness to the Bund meant everything you needed was right there. Whilst the room seemed a little unconventional in it's layout, it proved to be cosy and tidy, if a little dated. Shower water pressure was my only gripe, but got over it soon enough. A great first intro to Shanghai, will definitely return.
Nice hotel but hard to find at first
Those taking the metro, upon reaching East Nanjing Rd Station, exit via Exit 6 and turn Right. Walk about a minute and the hotel signboard would be on your left hand side. The hotel location was very convenient though. Every single mall around has basement food-courts worth checking out, plenty to eat! Be prepared to hand over 200 CNY during check-in (it'll be refunded upon check-out). Hotel staff are nice, would try to help on anything you ask for. You can spend some time at the hotel lobby, it's cute. Room sizes are not the biggest, no clothes cupboard. Day-to-day room-cleaning service was a bit sloppy. For the price you pay and close proximity to subway you enjoy, it's a very good hotel. Just don't take the hasslers throughout Nanjing rd/Yu Garden too seriously and don't let your spirit down when you can't find clean toilets anywhere. These two things were the biggest upsets for us in our China stay. Otherwise, it's a wonderful place to be!
Great location and friendly staff
The hotel is very near to the heart of Shanghai, with a metro stop 2 minutes walk away and the Bund 10 minutes walk away. Room is clean and comfy with all amenities provided; only remark is that the water temperature can be inconsistent in the shower. Staff is friendly and helpful as well.
Great Location for Short Stay
We stayed at the Fish Inn for 5 nights during a visit to Shanghai. It is a nice hotel with nice rooms, however there were some comforts that we missed during our stay. The carpets in our room appeared to have not been vacuumed between the previous guests and ourselves, and were not vacuumed during our 5 day stay either. The shampoo and body wash pumps in the shower ran out during our first shower and were not replenished for us (fortunately we had our own to use). And we found the hotel staff to be friendly, but not all that helpful. They could not provide a printed map or any tourist handouts, and just told us to visit the Bund for handouts. We have never had this from a hotel before. Overall, the hotel is nice and is in an excellent location.
Good Value for its location
Great location, very close to the centre of Shanghai and the shopping area. Hotel is a little hard to find, but perfect good for value for the price.
Great hotel, amazing service from staff
Location of this hotel is great, super near all the key attractions and facilities without the steep price or hustle of the city. Loved there is a local element right at the door step, and we had some of the best food in that area. What really made me love this hotel the most is their staff's service. I had parcels sent over everyday and they never failed to help and always gave their 101% to help, you can really feel the warmth and hospitality from them! Love this place, will come back again!
Nice hotel
Location is great, hotel stuff are very friendly & helpful
Fantastic location at a modest price
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fish Inn East Nanjing Road. The location is fantastic and the hotel provided everything we needed, except perhaps for a bit more space in the bedroom. Highly recommended!
Good Hotel, Great Staff
Overall, I enjoyed the Fish Inn. While the entrance to the hotel is not the most ideal location, the hotel itself is a good hotel at a great price. A regular room is small but includes the items you will need to stay for your trip. The staff is the best part of the hotel. Very accommodating and always willing to addresses any issue with your room or stay quickly. While you won't get any great views from your window, you will be located at the heart of Shanghai, with short walks to the Bund and Nanjing Road. The Metro is only a block away from the hotel which allows you to get anywhere in the city.
Cosey little hotel with perfect location.
Perfect location in a quiet alley. Nice cafe in the lobby. Nice staff - speaking english. Very close to the Bund and subway.
Shanghai Trip Nov 2017
The hotel is conveniently located near the Bund, Nanjing shopping street, and E. Nanjing Metro station. Hotel is in an alley off the main road which is rather unappealing but nevertheless, it is safe as there is a 24 hour guard at the alley entrance. Front desk staff can speak basic English so I didn't have any big issues with that. The room itself was ok but the bathroom had sewage smell that was pretty bad. I had no view out my woindow - there was some run down apartment view with someone's apartment window 10 feet across from my room widow. Wifi was slow. If they fix the sewage smell in their bathrooms I may stay there again otherwise find a different hotel.
Good location.
The staffs are friendly and helpful. The location is great and near to train station. The cleanliness could be better. For my 4 nights stay, the cleaning of the room is sloppy.
Hotel is good. Neighbourhood appearance is not so
The hotel is ok food very limited neighbourhood not so appealing air conditioners shut down when you take the key out.when back it was like an oven for awhile the bed was comfortable
Overall Nice Hotel-Definitely Recommend
Checking in was really nice. The staff spoke good English. It was a little hard to find, I ended up having a local help me out because I had no data on my phone. The room was cozy and comfortable, and the bed was soft. The cleaning staff was friendly. The wifi was also decent. Location wise, close to the Bund and East Nanjing road and also the subway station. The only thing about the area is that I would walk by lower end shops and markets one of them being a fish place that smelled. It was also pretty quiet. All in all I had relaxing stay- did all the exploring during the day and came at the end of the night could immediately chill.
Great Location, Quiet with Great Rooms
We loved the Fish Inn East Nanjing Road! The location was perfect for touring and there were some yummy eating places nearby! The room was clean and comfortable and the staff were very pleasant and helpful! We will stay there again!
Perfect place to stay in Shanghai
Though the location was off a small alley, it was in a very ideal location. Literally 2 close locks to NanJing Rd. The hotel itself is very charming and the staff was awesome. We asked if they had an extra adapter to charge our phone, Which they loaned to us with no problem. And the staff helped us order food be delivered to us because it was raining and storming like crazy outside. The room was comfortable, cozy, very neat and clean. I would DEFINITELY stay here again if I was ever in Shanghai.
Great staff that goes out if their way to help with any task or request. Good English skills and cery considerate. Great assistance with taxis restaurants trains etc. Stylish lobby and great espresso machine and coffee.
Central, comfortable, relatively clean
Central location but in an awkward street. Beds are super comfortable. Cleanliness is a bit better than most locally managed hotels but far from perfect.
Just came back last week from our shanghai trip. Location of the hotel: 5/5 (3 mins away from Exit 6 of the Metro Line 10, 8 mins walk to Nanjing East Shopping District, 7 mins walk to The Bund. Conveniently located although the entrance of the inn is tuck in a rather small and dark alley. While the street get really quiet at night, Shanghai is relatively safe. At the entrance of the alley into the inn has guard always on duty (sleeping in his guard room at night), it is okie for group of friends/couple/man but not so comfortable for single lady stay (unless you are the brave sort). Friendliness of staff: 5/5. (Friendly, Gave good advise where to go for authentic meal on our first day in Shanghai, Help to arrange for our transport in the wee morning to the airport and Gave us morning call on request.) Hotel room: 3.5/5 (Always come back to clean towels, folded sheet on bed. All personal items are left at where we place them, not shifted by anyone. Size of the room is decent for people who just want to come back to a bed in a comfortable environment. Soundproofing is terrible but nothing to pick on for the price we pay. We heard loud rain drumming our aircon unit (or something) outside the window for 1-2 hours in the middle of the night and a french man knocking another room at 5-6am loud and clear. All are external factor which may varies among individual.)
little beaten up - but great bang for your buck.
Very good value in a great location, blocks away from Bund, shopping malls and 1 block down from main subway. Staff very pleasant.
Scary entrance....just be brave !
- Scary entrance...down a filthy alley. Once inside though it's nice enough though. - No bottle openers to be found anywhere. - The TV only had Chinese content, and the "streaming media" section did not work. - For a single guy travelling, the endless harassment on Nanjing Road was bad enough that I will not return to Shanghai. Prostitution and people looking to take advantage (or simply rip you off) is rampant.
Cosy hotel just off the beaten track
This is a perfectly located budget hotel that offers great value for money for short term stays and travellers who don't spend all their time in their hotel rooms. The rooms are small but not uncomfortable. The staff were super-friendly and helpful. It is a short walk away from major shopping malls and big-name hotels and five minutes from the waterfront where all of Shanghai gathers at sunset to watch the evening skyline light up. The 'lovers bridge' is just around the corner with a perpetual round of wedding shoots - even at midnight as I walked past. Don't be surprised to step out of your hotel to find the whole alley in which it is located converted into an open fresh produce and fish market with locals haggling over the fare on offer. Quite a treat away from the haute couture shops just around the corner. The neighbourhood was very safe and the locals friendly and helpful. Make sure you have your WeChat loaded if you want to make instant friends and exchange information.
Great area, friendly staff, would recommend.
Good base for quick tourist trip to Shanghai
As others say, not the easiest to find but worth it as the location is excellent for seeing key attractions by foot and being so close to Line 2 of subway. Basic but modern, quiet and clean, helpful staff. A great choice if your goal is to just drop bags and explore all day.
Location, Location, Location
Decent place at competitive Shanghai price in a fantastic location, near the metro and a short walk to East Nanjing Road and the Bund. TV has 65 channels, all in Chinese, but fortunately the Olympics didn't need commentary.
Convenient to everything
The Fish Inn was difficult to find, however the price was great, the room was clean and the location to the Bund and Nanjing Rd is AWESOME. It is a great place and I'd stay again now I know where it is. Not luxury but great taste of real China. If your looking for a 5 star spot this isn't it...but great to crash and sightsee
Cool lobby and helpful staff. Good location.
Good experience. Hard to find hotel, that's one drawback.

For us was perfect hotel
The best place , we really liked the place , best location right in the city center, everything was easy to visit ..
