Great choice for family or couples

With a pool and beach and multiple restaurants and great staff it’s an excellent choice. As close to “all inclusive” idea as one can get and very close to airport

The room I requested and paid for was not an ocean view. Took the reservation person 3 hours to fix it. Air conditioning didn’t work. Key card had to be replaced. The battery on the room door had to be replaced at 12:15 in the morning.

It was fine but for the price I expected it to comp a Miami or Vegas 5 star hotel. The interior needed work and the rooms were sub par. We also were next to the elevator so you heard that constantly. If I hadn't paid so much for it, I'm sure I'd feel different. The pool area was lovely and the staff outside were so nice.

Nice hotel

Always a great experience. Love the nightly live music, casino, lobby bar & spacious rooms. No complaints! Everything was excellent!

We always enjoy staying at Fairmont El San Juan but this last visit found the rooms and pool areas starting to feel old and in need of some attention. Our shower head didn’t work so we used the hand held shower and the tiles around the property were loose in areas. Just needs some attention but for the rates you pay, this place should be pristine. Also, Meat Market is grossly overpriced and they don’t tell you that the water fee is $10/bottle before bringing it to your table. Give me a break!

food and drinks were very expensive

The room was the issue. Absolutely unacceptable room conditions. I thought I was staying in an "exclusive" resort. From the condition of our room I was staying at a Motel 6 at best. I will say that everything outside of our room was "exclusive". The staff friendly when you sought them out if you needed anything. The very best service from this establishment was their bar service. Never had an empty glass so that goes far.

This property was amazing. Having access to lounge chairs and umbrellas on the beach was priceless. Sand and water was perfect!

We spent an average of $800 a night at this property so I had imagined our experience would be upscale. No ventilation in the bathrooms at all, dirty toilets, and our room door had a huge gape at the bottom of the door where anyone could put something under it and unlock the door. We felt unsafe. Even after bringing this up twice to the front desk nothing was ever done. No resolution. The staff were rude. If paying this much you expect the room to be top tier. They were not. The rooms are old and due to no ventilation in the bathroom, mold is prevalent. The door to our bathroom was all banged up and the wooden door breaking off. Also we were put next to the elevators and with the gaping hole on the bottom of the door we could not sleep due to noise. I will never stay here again for my trips to San Juan. The location was great however service and rooms fell extremely short for what should be an upscale resort experience. The pool and beach are nice but the staff ignore you and stand around instead of asking if they can assist. The lobby and downstairs are quite nice but stay elsewhere. For the money it was not worth staying here. Even our toilet barely flushed and at times had no water pressure. There is no divider or shower glass for the bathroom so everything gets wet in the bathroom when you shower. Do Not Stay Here

This property was older but beautiful. Things were made so much nicer years ago and held up better . It was very classy.The power did go out often but instantly came back on . The beach was very nice. The hotel was only about five min from the airport. Which was great.

Beautiful grounds, lobby and beach, dreadful room

I had high expectations for my stay during NYE week with my family. We traveled with three other families. While the grounds are very nice including the pool and beach area as well as the main lobby area, the room quality was terrible, on par with a cheap roadside motel. When we arrived in the room, the bathroom vanity was broken and laying halfway on floor, the wardrobe door was dangling on two hinges (3 were broken), the two main USB outlets were broken and not functional and loosely hanging on the wall and the window was so tarnished that you couldn't really see out of it. The quality of the mattress and bedding was dreadful. When I complained to the front desk, they screwed the vanity back on after two days but that's all they could do. When I checked out, the attendant was not friendly and didn't even ask how our stay was. For a Fairmont and an average of $1k a night, we expected much more.

An exceptionally average resort. Housekeeping doesn’t show up till 5 PM most days and one day didn’t show up at all. When we realized and called at 7 PM it was too late to get the room made up for the day. Wi-Fi in the room was very patchy service around the hotel pretty weak. Food around the pool terrible.

The bathroom was very old and had many issues while I was there one week. No hot water , broken shower head and the wall was bubbly with condensation .

Loved the ancient tree in the patio. The only negative comment is that the barhroom in our room was bot cleaned properly.

great hotel and experience

Service was poor in many areas- pool bar, front desk, and pool attendants. We paid a ridiculous $100 per day resort fee to have a pool attendant with an attitude toss a couple of towels at us and tell us to find our own chairs. The only place their service was decent was at the bar where the music shows were held- which were actually very good. The room was not very clean and the hotel is generally fairly run down. I won’t return.

The lobby bar is great, sushi was great..live entertainment was great...the rest of the hotel is very dated..rust on hinges in the room, for the price ..much better options available to stay...property really needs to be renovated...

Great location, nice beach, fun lobby

The property was more like a 3.5 star than a 4 star hotel. The main building hallways and room were a little run down. Pros: the location was great, with easy access to the airport. Most excursions were a half hour to 45 min away including the rain forest, Old San Juan, etc. the beach was lovely and I appreciated the chairs on the beach reserved for hotel guests. If you want a fun, vibrant, and loud nightlife, the El San Juan Fairmont is the place to be. Every night the lobby was full of people and it felt like one big party. Cons: On the second night around 10 pm, loud music began blasting and vibrating our room. We were on the 3rd floor right above the lobby. We have children so it we requested a room change. I wished we were warned ahead of time rant the Club Cana was right below us and it would be loud music until 4 am. They did move us to the 6th floor right away but it was still a pain to move when we were already trying to go to bed. The shower door would not close all the way and it leaked puddles of water all over the floor and even out the bathroom door. We did not ask to move this time because we had just moved so we dealt with it. Another night the door latch locked us in from the outside when we got home from dinner and another day, the batteries in the safe died so my belongings were stuck. It was an inconvenience and put a damper on my vacation, but security and staff were responsive and alleviated issues right away. For that, I appreciated this hotel.

No routine maintenance of any portion of this facility. Dirty chairs, pool, linens, bathrooms. Cracked steps everything is worn and needs to be replaced in this hotel.. did i mention not clean

3.5 hotel for a 5 star price. As others have stated below, this hotel is quite dated. Small rooms. AC set at 68, didn’t get close to that during the entire stay. 1 of the elevators was out. Asked the fake maître d' at the 3.9 (current Google) rated steak hosue if I could get some food at the bar and he said it was “not for guests of the hotel.” OK. Circular bar in the lobby near the sushi bar had more workers than guests and it took 10 minutes for them to even ask what you wanted. Hard pass- Never again..

Rooms are on the smaller side. Property is bit dated, but its right by the beach and great for families with kids.

I really like my time here. It was my second time this year and honestly was such a wonderful and convenient way to travel to Puerto Rico however, I am having issues with staff right now because after clearing up all of our charges, the hotel charged my account and additional $500 and has been avoiding my phone calls. Really disappointed.

The Fairmont El San Juan is an easy few minutes drive from the airport. There is ample parking and we had no difficulty finding a spot during our three night stay. Check in was quick and I was given a complete overview of the property. It was immaculate and well laid out. Our room was clean and comfortable, great tv with lots of viewing options, the bathroom was big and hot showers. The bars by the pool were great and we watched football games and chatted with other guests. We had an amazing meal at CANA and our server was so nice and engaging. When we walked the property at night it was so beautiful and the lighting was stunning and well designed. This was my first visit to Puerto Rico and it was one of the best trips I've been on in a long time. The Fairmont El San Juan is a fantastic property and I look forward to staying again.

20th wedding anniversary

The hotel is beautiful and in a great location. The staff were very friendly and the whole place offered so much. We throughly enjoyed our stay!

Great service

We have been here many times over the years, but i have to report that the "included breakfast buffet" was pitiful. Almost on the level of Holiday Inn Express. Poor selection. Fruit was good. Very understaffed for the Christmas holiday. We will not be back.

Very convenient to walk to stores, freeway, great service, food was very good including room service. The staff was excellent - service and friendly. Property had everything - live entertainment, spa, pools, casino and great bars. Loved it.

Too long waiting to check-in

Stayed for 4 nights in a supposed to be stay 4 nights get 1 night free, but ended up paying for the 4th night anyway. Staff told us their rate is flexible and can change anytime. We were told we will not be charged resort fee, in lieu of the discrepancy between Expedia rate and Fairmont rate, but got charged the resort fee as soon as we left the hotel. In the room we stayed in, the bathroom enclosure is not properly sealed so it’s leaking water, making the floor constantly wet, the bathroom door barely fits the room when it swings; definitely needs an update to sliding or swing out door perhaps. The fridge in our room is making loud noises, the adjoining door exacerbates the situation, we can hear the occupants in the other room. I am pretty sure they can hear my snoring as well. In one of the nights of our stay, police officers were seen knocking on the room opposite ours. The fitness Center had several non-working treadmills, maintenance needs to keep up. The water close to the shore is turbid due to the wave scouring the sand. The grounds look good though, and that was our only consolation.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful, and we were literally in walking distance of the beach and various restaurants. Additionally the hotel was willing to hold onto our luggage until we were able to check in and until we needed to leave to catch our flight. Overall, we would stay here again.

Beautiful Hotel.

The hotel is sophisticated, and the staff were great. Breakfast was very pleasant. Lots of activities are available at night. It is a resort hotel with a casino and nightclub. There is also a live band that you can enjoy at night.

Unfortunately, our stay was not that of a 5 star property. From the room issues, to being treated poorly by staff on the beach. Disappointing.

Rooms are old and have issues with air-conditioning, there were chipped furnitures and dirty linens, balcony lights don't work, their lobby leaks water when it rains (which is every other day during the season). Room service to the villa is terrible and irresponsible, you'll get half of the things you requested and that too after a long wait, and the rest half will arrive next day after multiple calls(this was during a weekday when property was half empty). Dining options are limited and expensive, PR has amazing food outside of this hotel so please don't limit yourself to their restaurants. Beach in front of this property is great and maintained but the grounds & pools stink, we even saw a snake around the pool in the evening. Considering the experience of all other luxury resorts I have been to within the country I think Fairmont at best qualifies as a 3.5 star catagory.

Beautiful beach

The hotel as a whole was beautiful inside & out! However there were definitely some cons . We stayed in the ocean view villas , the room its self was very nice , with a beautiful balcony view. however our room had very very poor ventilation everything in our room was & felt very damp and sticky including our bed (Sheets/blankets) which was so uncomfortably gross to sleep in . Our toilet had backed up and it took staff hours to come to look at it we called 3 separate times and all they kept saying was “We will send someone up to look at it” & no one came . During the night our Tv stopped working , we called the front desk and they sent someone up & he was rude and said he was coming back to look at it in which he never did . Also the phones in the room don’t work we had to use our personal phones to call the hotel. There was multiple times that there was used dirty plates , cups and silverware that were still filled with old food/liquid from the guest that were staying next door from us that the housekeepers kept setting outside of our door and it was never disposed off. Staff was “Ok” out of the entire stay I’d say our drivers were the nicest out of all the people we came in contact with aside from one of the house keepers who actually took the innovative to call the manger regarding our toilet issue.

The walls were really thin. You could hear everything in the mornings. Other than that, the room was great the lobby was fun they had a party every night and the casino was fantastic.

Service and staff very professional….

Absolutely amazing , everything about it is just wonderful , the entire staff are so nice and so friendly , the place is HUGE , from casino to ball room to restaurants , little shops , a little club , 4 different swimming pools etc , soo many things to do in the resort alone . Every night we were there they had something going on in the main lobby. Highly recommend this gorgeous resort , you will not regret it!

Great bar but expensive for drinks

Nice place I would recommend it.

I had a great time. They were very accommodating when I asked for a specific floor. There were good places to eat but pricey. There is an area with little shops and Starbucks on the property. The beach access was the best part. You were able to have a chair and umbrella. Just felt a little off with servers on beach. They did not offer me any menus like other guest that were on the beach. The current is rough but the water is warm and clear. No seaweed which was great. The room was a great size and clean. There were three different pools on the property which was great too. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Beautiful property and hotel. Staff especially bartenders were very friendly. Food in the restaurants and even by the pools was very good. Chose a pool view villa but it was tucked in a corner with absolutely no view but a tree and a wall, but I guess someone had to get this room. The short staffing of the cleaners was an issue at check in, tried to get an early check in as we arrived just after 11am, but was not able to get into the room until after 5pm, which was an inconvenience coming from up north on a redeye flight. The staff brushed this off to be normal and not a big deal, but it’s not fun having to change and get ready in lobby bathrooms. We then had small inconveniences like no towels after they would clean the room. Overall, it was a nice stay for an extended weekend.

Loved to stay at Fermont, will come back again soon for vacation.

This was my second time at this property and both experiences were awesome. The hotel has changed owners between the two visits and I found an even better experience this most recent trip. The beach is fantastic, one of the best in the area. Very relaxing weekend in Puerto Rico! Staff were all very helpful and genuinely caring.

Nicest hotel in the area, but not 5 stars. Great pool vibe, night time bars and music and the club in the hotel. Location on the beach was lovely. Front desk service lacking due to unfriendliness, lack of help, and getting service when checking in and out. And no 5 star amenities like robes and slippers, slow service in general. Good stay but 4 stars at best.

It was a nice getaway from our busy lives.

Pools and Beach location are excellent and you may run into a celebrity! Late checkout is overpriced.

Property was great! It has everything you need from great shopping, great cocktails, and all restaurants are delicious. Casino was also really fun!

I was charged additional resort fees when my paid package already included the price of the resort fees. I was also charged almost $100 for breakfast for 2 people each day and charged additionally for dinner when i already paid with my card.

Our stay was wonderful. Check-in was a breeze since my partner and I landed earlier than expected. Staff was more than friendly and very helpful. The resort itself was very beautiful and had everything we could have ever needed and more.

The hotel was nice and the staff was friendly and helpful when needed. What I did not like was they could never keep face cloths handy, would have to opt for a hand towel instead.

The property was great. I didn’t like that they put a 650 hold on my credit card but other than that all was great.

Gorgeous Hotel! The bars are impeccable! The pool and swim up bar also so lovely! The nightly entertainment was great also. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the rooms….. you hear everything every conversation from the other rooms ppl outside it was disturbing at night. Other than that amazing stay! Will return ❤️

The pool complex is beautiful with an adult only option, wonderful gym, beautiful beach frontage and lots of great dining and bar options. Room was large and bed comfortable. We enjoyed our stay.

Overall very satisfied! Nice stuff. Rooms are pretty big. It right on the beach which was very important for me. Nice swimming pool areas as well.
