We had a fabulous stay at Excelsior by Giesel. The staff were friendly and very happy to assist us. The hotel amenities were excellent. We had breakfast included in our stay and it was outstanding. We would definitely stay at Excelsior by Giesel again and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good quality hotel in a convenient location.
Great for Xmas
Location is great. We could walk to all the places we wanted to see and eat in Munich. Breakfast here is amazing, too. Highly recommend this hotel!
-weak/almost no WiFi - heater was almost non existent - I woke up with rashes after sleeping in the bed - no VIP room upgrade - welcome drinks - bar was always closed
A gem of a hotel!
Great hotel, staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are big and comfortable with all amenities you might expect. It feels like an hotel from old times, with the care and personal touch you don’t usually find in most modern hotels anymore. Easy to get around Munich as it is right by the main train station and walking distance to the main sites in town. Would definitely recommend this hotel
Excellent and comfortable stay. Shops and Metro was in walking distance. A beautiful hotel with gorgeous rooms and wonderful amenities. We will definitely be staying here again. Highly recommend!
Convenient location...right next to Munichs main rail station. Beautiful bathroom!
The location of this hotel for access to Munich town centre and the railway is superb. Hotel staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. Rooms were comfortable and clean and the hotel had character. The only downside was construction of a building next door-but this is beyond the hotel’s control.
Great property and location, been here several times and always enjoy. However, area has been under construction for years around train hbf, wish they'd finIsh.
Every aspect is fine tuned at this oasis.
This hotel is top notch. We had nothing we would change about our stay. Excellent staff service, easy check-in and check out, wonderful breakfast and the rooms were beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. It was an amazing oasis to retreat to, after a full day of sightseeing.
Loved this hotel. It was a great start to our vacation. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and quiet. Only a wine bar on site ànd restaurant had limited food but surrounding area had plenty to pick from. Did not paratake on breakfast 25 euro buffet. There were about 5 guys that hung out near entrance every evening/ night that kinda worried my teenage daughter. Also there was construction directly in front of the entrance, we never heard any actual working. All the attractions we wanted to see were walking distance and easily navigated. Special thank you to the staff for finding my missing glove.
Great location, wonderful staff
The hotel is in a great location, a very short walk from the main train station. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Bathroom fixtures were gold and outdated, but who really cares about that? We received a welcome drink in their restaurant/bar. Try the salmon appetizer - delicious! I would definitely stay here again when in Munich.
Perfect Hotel for Xmas msrkets
Concierge/bellhop very friendly even making a point to remember my name which is such a simple thing but such a nice touch. Location outstanding.
Great high quality hotel. Lovely breakfast, friendly staff
Close to train station.
Love it! Everything was great, the staff, the food, the location. Will be going back.
Noisy, unfriendly, surrounded by construction. Not a helpful, clean german hotel I’m used to staying in.
Loved it. Well-designed, homey, friendly and tons of quaint details
Very nice hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful , the hotel is well located to explore München and for trips to other town and cities
C’était parfait! Métro et train à porter de la main. petit-déjeuner excellent.
Nice hotel. Close to the station. The area is not nice but convenient.
The staff was very welcoming and the hotel was very clean. Definitely recommend!
Lovely hotel with great staff - nothing too much trouble!
Staff were very helpful, only praise for them. The local area was very unsafe, near the Munich train station and would hesitate to recommend it, purely because of that.
Modern yet charming hotel. Very close to the old town of Munich.
Recommended because of the quality and its near central train station. Many places can be explored in the area.
What a spectacular hotel! The staff is wonderful and the hotel is perfectly located between HBF Station and Old Town. Many restaurants and shopping areas to choose from as well. The rooms are updated, clean, and very comfortable. We tried the breakfast buffet which was nice, but a little expensive. I’d recommend exploring the local restaurants and coffee shops. We will stay here again without hesitation!
A lovely hotel and they offer a terrific breakfast
Staff friendly and accommodating. Nice clean hotel and very convenient to transportation and dining/shopping.
Excelsior is in a perfect location within Munich. We went for Oktoberfest, and the hotel is a 17-minute walk from the grounds and right next to several train stops that will also drop you off around the city. We ended up walking everywhere and could get where we wanted to go within 20 minutes. The hotel staff is very friendly. The wine room they have just off the lobby is darling, with great drink and food options. There is also a laundromat just around the corner from the hotel, so you can pack light and have clean clothes for the rest of your trip!
Hard for uber to find w small street closed.... an uber!!! Disappointment . Not reflective of hotel
Beautiful hotel. Great service with nice details in the room and common areas. The laundry room in the basement was a nice (unexpected amenity) too.
Oktoberfest trip.
Beautiful hotel with great staff. Our room was beautiful and clean. The only complaint we had was that the nearby construction and road closures made it very difficult to get in and out of. Cabs and drivers found it hard to find the place and unfortunately the constant rain made it difficult to stand outside and wait. The subway (U) is right outside the door and staff was very helpful with directions. Restaurants and grocery nearby and a one stop subway ride if you’re planning an Oktoberfest trip
Great location adjacent to train station and easy walking to all sights. Great for Oktoberfest.
It was a great experience.
GREAT ROOM!!!
I absolutely loved our room!! Very clean & spacious. Highly recommended!
It was a very nice place with very pleasant staff, conveniently located and very quiet inside.
Friendly staff , but construction everywhere, not there fault at all but wasn’t great
Fabulous location although rather difficult to locate by car. Excellent facilities and super attentive staff.
Location is convenient to central train station and to Karlsplatz. Room was decent but small (single room). Lots of noise from outside at all hours. Breakfast was good. I would stay here again.
Nice hotel, clean, quite, very nice staff.
Convenient location
Nice location, just 5 minutes walk from main train station and 15-20 minutes walk from Marienplatz! Very pleasant front desk staff. We didn’t have a coffee machine at the room, but it was delivered to the room upon request. Room was spacious and bed was very comfortable!
The hotel is wonderful, quiet, luxurious and I would stay again. Amazing pillows, heated floors in the bathroom, and stellar breakfast. The staff was the kindest we have encountered in our travels this vacation and the location provides excellent access to the Old Town. If you are traveling with a rental car, road closures make it slightly difficult to access hotel lobby area via GPS and I would recommend navigation to parking garage instead.
Great hotel! Great location!
You must request a room with air conditioning or you are not getting air conditioning. However, they did supply a fan when I asked. On a side note I booked using a European calendar and I messed up the days and they would not work with me to change them. And I ended up paying for 2 days and only staying one. Absolutely no attempt to even help. And I reached out 2 nights before I was supposed to arrive. Make sure of your dates.
The room was nice, bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. Shower had greay water pressure and lots of amenities. Staff were helpful and the restuarant had exceptional service.
Just there for an overnight, but great service and room! Would have loved to stay longer
Superb location and staff
We were very pleased with the hotel staff...always helpful. The entrance is located on a peaceful side street within steps of subway and grocery store. Just a 5 minute walk to be in the old town.
BUYER BEWARE: despite a recent renovation, rooms at this hotel have NO AIR CONDITIONING. These rooms may face the street, so opening widows results in all night noise. Good luck sleeping on a hot summer night.
We were assigned a small double room in the attic of this hotel. From the 5th floor, there was a set of stairs that led to 3 rooms. Our room was very hot & stuffy and the air conditioner was very weak. The rooms in the attic were not renovated as the rest of the hotel rooms were. We also had very heavy suitcases which we carried up the flight of stairs to the attic. No one offered to help us. We are fit and strong, so it was okay for us. When we checked in, we were not told about the situation of our room.
Overnight stay in Munich
Excellent location to the Central train station & the Old Town. Well furnished with L’Occitane toiletries. Comfortable bed but extremely noisy with the street traffic most of the night. There’s no air conditioning or fans so in this current hot weather, it got quite uncomfortable although opening the windows helped a bit but let in more noise. The staff were very friendly & helpful.
Staff excellent and welcoming. Comfortable hotel but noisy plumbing (late baths at 1.30 -2.30 am by neighbours) and v noisy if window is open. Otherwise very convenient for transport links to city and airport. Breakfast is 25€ per person so expensive for family of 4
Staff very good, obliging and welcoming. Lots of building work around but excellent central location with lots of transport links to city and airport. Breakfast expensive at €25 so not worthwhile for a family of 4. Local eateries not great but good options not far away in town.
The area out front was under construction. At night many young people hanging around with nothing to do. Hotel staff was excellent. Hotel was convenient walk to Old Town.
L' occitane toiletries, large size room. But no kettle , coffee maker in room but was provided when requested
Disappointing
Having requested an early check in we were told the room wasn’t ready. Then we were told it would be 30mins and then having been cleaned it took another 30 mins for the supervisor’s sign off which meant we were late for our event. There are no means to control the room temperature in the room, which was very hot and stuffy, other than opening the windows. One of which was broken and not able to close once opened. The street noise and trams went on all night and was very loud. The shower dripped throughout the 2 days. This was not the expected standard for the price paid.
Convenient. Small street with train stops at each end. Escalators to trains led to shopping & food. Large room. My room did not have a safe so had to use safe at front desk - I didn't like this. But I think other rooms had safes. No AC but not a problem. Could be a problem if temperatures were very high but highest was 30 degrees C.
Great location with 3 mins walk to Old Town and shopping. Bfast was huge
It is fairly well documented that the area around large train stations are not always the best and Munich is no different. The area can bt seedy and a little rough depending which street you take, whislt current building works make matters worse. This hotel however is set just opposite and proved to be a serence and calm oasis. The Hotel has a bright, calm and luxurious interior with very friendly and professional staff, with special mention to the male who I assume was the manager who assisted me to obtain some nice glasses to compluiment the wine and beer I had purchased. If you want a nice hotel in a decent setting, you can't go wrong here.
Overpriced for what it is
Room didn’t look like what we had booked, there was no coffee or iron in the room, there was a stain on the bed when we arrived and the area was super dodgy at night so unless you really need the station close, I’d go elsewhere, wildly overpriced for what it is..
Lovely property, close to Marienplatz and the train station. Although we were on the 5th floor, there was always a lot of noise from rowdy passersby at night.
My Room was not upgraded, and was not even ready 30 minutes after the check in time of 3:00pm. I had to wait for 50 minutes after the long journey. The hotel staff just told me “Housekeeping is busy”
Beautiful property! Comfy bed and such a tranquil room! The only thing I would change is coffee in the rooms!
Sara was a great help and made our stay pleasant - breakfast was very good too - enjoyed a room upgrade too, many thx
Close to oldtown, central location.
Beautiful hotel in a great location.
We spent a week in Munich and we loved every minute of our stay in this hotel. It would be nice to have some air conditioning but other than that, the staff were awesome, the breakfast was yummy, and the beds were comfortable.
We did not receive the rooms we paid for, and the hotel is an oven. The rooms were 90 degrees at night! Would never recommend.
5 Plus Stars! Great stay!
I traveled solo and this hotel was my first stop. It was convenient and within walking distance to everything including the train and bus station. The staff was fantastic on each shift and helped me with all of my questions. They spoke English as well. I would high recommend staying here and hope to return sometime in the future.
Beautiful traditionally style hotel. Short walk to shop or restaurants. Trains station entrance immediately available. Felt very safe in the area and the hotel employees were extremely helpful and attentive. Be aware there is not air conditioning, it was a warmer week but manageable.
Location, close to train station and marieplantz
Enjoyed our stay excellent hotel
Nice and clean hotel. Professional staff. Short walking distance to all attractions. Very close to central train station, but quiet. I would stay here again
A great stay right by the train!
The hotel itself is nice; well situated by the Stacchus and the train station, and away from the large crowds. The hotel front desk staff were excellent and as helpful as possible. But I experienced some operational and facility issues. I had to wait 90 minutes and could not check in until 5p due to a broken window (it broke again and required a room change later on). The hotel does not have air conditioning, and my room came with a standing fan. The entire block across from the hotel appears to be under renovation but the construction didn’t prove to be too much of a nuisance. I would consider returning once construction was complete in the area as the location is still ideal and away from the crowds.
Only a night but had a few questions and the staff we very helpful and made my time in Munich stress free because of their knowledge
Location was great but a lot of construction around it. Good customer service and good breakfast. Hotel was clean but outdated.
Amazing stay in munich
this property had construction going on around it.
Very friendly staff! Very professional.
Excellent facility
We stayed at this hotel for four nights and it was absolutely wonderful! We stayed in the Alpine suite and we had lots of space and we felt that the room was very clean and modern modern. The parking situation was easy because we got our ticket validated the day that we left and it was half the price of what the parking garage was offering. They offered breakfast to. We only had it one day as we went out for excursions throughout the day. The location was absolutely convenient as it was near the train stations and close enough to the city center where we could walk or take a scooter back-and-forth! The staff was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this to others!
The room was interesting but the seating was poor quality and you had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to the room, from the elevator. The area was convenient, but right around it, lots of homeless and drunk people were on the street
Wonderful location just steps from train station. Extremely clean with beautiful lobby. Front desk was exceptionally helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay and would book again if in Munich.
Construction was an issue in the area
As expected
The main downside of the property is the location. While conveniently located close to the Hauptbahnhof, that also brings the downsides of closeness to the station like noise, loiterers, dirtiness, and construction around it. Inside the hotel however, I was pleased with the stay. The room was spacious and clean, the hot water and AC worked well.
Bavarian style hotel, staff of hotel is very nice, especially Miko who is at the front desk was very kind and courteous and helped out with directions and suggested places to visit. Definitely a 5 star hotel.
Hotel was in great location. Very dated interior though
Convenient
Centrally located. However, breakfast is not included and is very expensive.
Rooms facing the main street is noisy, the mattresses need changing, the hot and cold water in the bath is difficult to manage, either too hot and too cold and the plumbing makes a terrible noise all night. The restaurant is very nice though
Best location. So close to walk to Marienplatz and trains. Staff was wonderful and hotel was beautiful
Everything top notched! Very enjoyable stay
Near Old Town
Water in shower was running between scalding and freezing, not balanced properly Everything else was good Excellent location, near train station and old town
Great location. Awesome staff, friendly and helpful. Room was quiet and comfortable. Will definitely stay again, next visit to Munich.
Great location and staff.
The location was great. Construction next door but did not hear it. Staff were all professional and helpful. Actually the staff was the best part of our stay. Our room was on 5th floor then walk up another 2 flights. The room needed updating beds were 2 twins pushed together firm almost felt like sleeping on box spring. No safe in room or coffee/tea pot but it did have a mini fridge/bar.
Short stay
Only short. Very convenient for station.
Great
Great service and room
Perfect for my trip in every way!
Great area. Beautiful hotel. Everything is wonderful in regards to the location, shopping, things to do and see but they definitely need to update the property. Just a little dated in the rooms but I still had a wonderful stay. The breakfast and bar had excellent food. The bar/restaurant were located in the lobby.
Walkable clean friendly
