Beautifully maintained property and room. Most employees very friendly and helpful. Meals and service at Magna restaurant was excellent. Food at other restaurants were hit and miss. Food at the breakfast buffet was not good ... my waffle was cold, scrambled eggs were soupy, and omeletes were burnt.
We should mention that we also went to the sister El Carmen resort, and others unrelated in DR Not to compare. The service in the resort was superb, their team made every effort to accommodate us. Yeah, it's a 5 star hotel and yes dress code for some restaurant is expected. Since we celebrated our anniversary as a special occasion, the resort upgraded us for a romantic dinner at their club members-only restaurant Magna. We had an incredible romantic dinner, which included an amazing tomahawk steak among other delicious food. This was a nice gesture of hospitality. Their menus at various restaurants were very good with Chez Isabelle taking the top spot. Ceviche oh yes! Sushi is commonly served at the buffet, and there are a wide variety of food choices, from high-quality delicate gourmet to finger foods. I'm aware that not everyone likes the same food and some are more critical about food choices. The shows were very entertaining with the magic show top notch. Pool activities were as usual as in other resorts. Pool launch beds were very comfortable, you'll need to get up early to secure one. Although there was a red flag on the beach during our stay, you were still allowed to enter. A very nice and quiet beach can be found by walking 5 minutes to the right. Plenty of seating at the beach. Launch chairs at the beach were separated from each other, providing more space. The room wasn’t as new as the Carmen resort, but the resort itself was more intimate with beautiful grounds
Staff and Hotel were great
The upgrade to Excellence Club proved to be a complete waste of money (approx. $600), as our friends in a non-EC room got much better "in room" service. They arrived back at their room to pretty turndowns; flowers, towel animals, charcuterie/desserts, sparkling wine. While my husband and I did not get any of those things in our "upgraded room". Additionally, when we made specific requests thru the club concierge, for a notepad and pen (that our friends had in their non-club room) and a bottle of wine one evening to celebrate our anniversary, neither request was fulfilled. Food was fine, swimming at resort was not allowed (due to red flags)- but we found beautiful swimming a short walk from resort. Entertainment was okay. Redeeming quality was very friendly staff and beautiful grounds.
Beautiful hotel and amazing staff but low quality food
The staff was kind, sometimes over-eager in service, but generally very good. The food was really good all around, no complaints. I like peace and quiet. Others maybe not as much. I could do with less music at the pool. The sound of waves is good enough for me. My life is loud enough. My stay was excellent and I would recommend this resort to others.
I recently stayed at Excellence Punta Cana with my wife to celebrate our anniversary on Valentine's Day, and unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. First and foremost, I want to highlight the strict dress code for the restaurants, which was not communicated to us prior to booking. To our surprise, we were informed that we needed to wear sleeves to enjoy breakfast and that pants were mandatory for several dinner restaurants. On such a special occasion, being denied entry into a restaurant we had paid an upcharge for was incredibly disappointing and completely ruined our evening. Additionally, the resort's marketing of their dining options was misleading. Although we were encouraged to upgrade for exclusive access to certain restaurants, many of these were fully booked during our stay, leaving us with limited choices. The claim that top-shelf alcohol was included in our package did not extend to wine, which felt like another letdown. When I approached the concierge desk to express our concerns, I was met with a lack of accommodation or understanding. The only response I received was that it was hotel policy from corporate, despite my attempts to show that the dress code was not listed on their website. Having traveled to the Dominican Republic multiple times and stayed at several top resorts, I can confidently say that this was my worst experience. The lack of communication and rigid policies overshadowed
Resort was gorgeous, service was amazing. Very clean and safe. Highly recommend
Would do it again
Wonderful time, excellent food options, staff very helpful. It’s a great hotel, totally recommend it.
Not worth the price
I don't know how this is a 5-star hotel or how the price is justified. It's a nice enough place, with nothing glaringly wrong. But the shower, for instance, has paint peeling in multiple places. I get that the weather is humid and paint peeling is normal but again just thought for a 5-star the hotel the shower would be a little more than concrete slab and rushed paint job. All the restaurants' food is as expected for all inclusive: bland and forgettable. The service is also surprisingly subpar. Everyone was nice enough but seemed a touch incompetent. Had I known what I was getting into I would have chosen a different hotel.
This property offers the individual who is looking for a place to relax, rest and collect their thoughts this is the place.
Beautiful property with excellent service
This property was a quiet, adult-only resort. It had a good variety of restaurants. Downsides were that there wasn't much in the way of entertainment (and what they did have wasn't very lively during the daytime) and that, when we went, the waves in the ocean were too big to go swimming in it every day we were there. Also we had a private pool outside our room but it was only semi private and it was very cold. Wish the pools had heaters on at that time of year.
My overall rating of 3 is based on the food overall. I know this is DR but I was extecting better for a 5 stars hotel. Upon arrival the reception staff tries to sell you a service upgrade to their Excellence Club for nearly $600 usd. That is a lot of money for the little more benefits you get. Not worth the extra money. As sson as you walk out of the property on the beach, it feels you are walking through a dump site. Locals gather to fish, drink beer and leave garbages all over. Disgusting.
Love the room, pools and staff!
The staff make the stay wonderful. The waves make it less swim-friendly, but the beach is beautiful and the property is lovely
This is not a five star hotel. The rooms are dated and because there is a bath tub in middle of the room. We stayed six nights and the beach is totally useless and there is always red flag. Our friends stayed at another’s hotel and cheaper with a gorgeous beach. The food was good, but portions are so small. Worst beach holiday
Beautiful with wonderful and delicious dining options
the resort is beautiful and well kept. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. We spent alot of time at the beach and around the pool. Excellent!
It was nice, and quit and clean
The hotel is beautiful, very safe, incredible staff, everyone is super special with the guests, especially at the front desk Jorge, at the Table restaurant Luis, Gabriel, the girls, at the club everyone strives to make the service super special. The quality of the food can improve. "I love the ambiance, The décor is stylish, and the atmosphere is so welcoming. It's a great place to relax and enjoy!
Staff and hotel were very nice! Plenty of food options as well as bars. Pool and beach area very clean.
The staff were amazing! Loved the beach and pool. We had the rooftop terrace room with plunge pool and it was great when we just wanted to tan and get cool without the people, even though it never seemed too crowded. Would definitely book again!
Had a relaxing and amazing vacation here! The property is so vast that you really don’t need to interact with any of the other guests. Feeding the birds in the garden was so much fun, and I loved that the pools were open from 8am to 7pm, I was able to get in my morning swim with the pool all to myself and a night swim before dinner with a mostly empty pool! Only pool we didn’t go to was the excellence beach pool because it was always so crowded.
We had a wonderful and relaxing time Great food and service. Highly recommended
A wonderful experience The staff were all lovely. I can’t imagine it being any nicer!!!
Friendly people. Clean. People are scrubbing painting cleaning all the time. Maybe not the newest buildings, but constant care put into them. Easy to find beach seating. Friendly staff. Felt safe and secure.
Solanche airport transfer sucked. Wasnt the resorts fault. Expedia needs to not use them
Overall a good experience. Great food, excellent staff. The pool water was warmer then alot of places ive been. Cleaning and upkeep of room during stay could be bit better. Also, this is not bavaro beach. The beach is big and clean but water is rougher and i wasnt comfortable going in. Biggest complaint was gym. Floors were being redone and closed entire trip. Cant understand why any place would do renos during peak season??? Wait till May.
Great restaurant choices and food , coffee shop and snacks excellent. No evening buffet and cold pool water.Unable to swim at beach- too windy and rough water-red flags- not resort fault suggest evening area for dancing...and a play roo for pool table ping pong like a game room..... show were ok BEST one was the magic show fromCuba superb show..suggest a shuttle bus to area shops or shopping mall as excursions were tooo intense all day afairs...overall very nice relaxing staff and food excellent as well as service cleanliness
It is an older hotel but in great shape, beach location very nice and swimmable, life guards always alert, the personnel the best ever, friendly , attentive , great. only thing is property surrounding the beach of the hotel is very dirty, in both sides , really sorry to see this beauty so dirty.
Overall was okay but during the daytime food options are limited and taste of foods are just okay. The bed sheets and the towels are washed but still has some stains. The bed frame in my room keeps making squeaky noises. But these are just minor issues. The beach is beautiful and the atmosphere of this resort was very nice.
My partner and I loved this resort, the food was good, the excellence club was a great add on, the food options and drinks were great and available. The stuff was very nice besides a couple we encountered at one of the restaurants but every else was great and we look forward to going back soon.
I stayed here solo for 2 weeks and I felt super safe. Staff was very friendly. Food was amazing, lobster restaurant & the grill was my favorite. Beach is beautiful. You can walk to the right of the beach to swim if the waves are too strong. Everything was amazing. Absolute paradise! Highly recommend! 10/10
Review of Excellence Punta Cana My wife and I recently celebrated my 41st birthday at Excellence Punta Cana, our first trip to the Dominican Republic. It exceeded all our expectations! After weighing the pros and cons of an all-inclusive resort versus an Airbnb, we opted for the all-inclusive experience, and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. From the moment we arrived, the quality of the hotel was evident. The adults-only atmosphere was perfect for a romantic getaway, and the outstanding service made us feel special throughout our stay. The amenities were top-notch, with beautiful pools, easy beach access, and a fantastic selection of drinks and meals. We splurged on the VIP package, which was worth it; indulging in ribeye and tomahawk steaks every night was a highlight! Overall, our stay was nothing short of terrific. The ambiance, the weather, and the friendly staff all contributed to an unforgettable experience. I highly recommend Excellence Punta Cana for anyone looking to relax and celebrate in style!
Cash tips are expected- if timely consistent service is desired.
Excellent resort!
Wonderful!
Great staff food was good.
We were very satisfied with our stay. No complaints at all!
Excellent
The shows were great. The room had an incredible view and was right next to the pool and pool bar. The restaurants we were able to visit were all fantasitco!
Highly recommend
Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff at all levels. Wonderful resort.
Beautiful property. Beach was pretty but a little rough at times, really long great to walk. Food and drinks were good enough. Service was great.
Was enjoyable
The staff is on top of everything. From housekeeping, to landscaping, to food and drink services, the staff goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is exceptional.
Staff were all wonderful.
Great place, and not overcrowded. Henrietta the concierge in the excellence club was amazing!!
We loved the food options and relaxing atmosphere.
Everyone at the resort was great. I loved it
The property was nice. A bit confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it it is very walkable. All of the restaurants were pretty central. The beach was really nice, but we could only go in the ocean 2 out of the 6 days we were there because it is very rough being on the Atlantic side. Was really nice the days we were able to get in though! I would say the only thing I wasn't a big fan of here was the food. I think this is overall a DR thing, where the food just isn't as high quality as Mexico or Jamaica. The restaurants were inconsistent in their quality. Where some people we talked to had great experiences, and we had meat that came out raw, or way over cooked. Way too much salt used at many restaurants, and a lot of the food seemed to be identical to what was at the buffet, just plated nicer. Wasn't horrible by any means, but just wasn't where we were hoping for the price. Overall it was a very nice week. Beautiful property, and all the staff are very friendly.
Excellent!
Amazing resort with lovely restaurants- food good! Beautiful beach! Need usd for tips which we thought we could accesss at hotel- this turned out not to be the case... I would be happy to go back one day
Fabulous stay. Staff met your every need. Thank you for a wonderful time ☀️
Very nice stay in Jan holidays. Kind staff and perfect service. Restaurants and bars are great.
Great property. The staff works hard to ensure their guest are satisfied. I was hesitant about this resort as I normally stay with Iberostar, but with the bad customer service I’m happy I chose this resort. I had one of the best massages in my life. The food was decent. The entertainment was AMAZING! I’ll definitely come back to visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Excellence Punta Cana! From start to finish the service was prompt and friendly, our room was clean and our ocean view room didn’t disappoint!!! The grounds are immaculately kept, the food options were abundant and delicious! Robinson at the Magna restaurant was our favourite server. :) Highly recommend this resort!
Amazing restaurants and views. Food was great especially for resort dining. Would not leave the property, sketchy area. Room was nice, but needs some updates and buffing. Staff and service was amazing!
Amazing resort and we’ve been to dozens of all-inclusive resorts over the years. Service is impeccable, food was high quality for all-inclusive and resort was private, quiet and relaxing. Highly recommend.
Entertainment shut down to early and the food was ok. More of a couples resort than singles.
We just finished a week’s stay at this beautiful property. The room was beautiful, the food amazing and most of all, the staff was so friendly, helpful and made the stay that much more fun. Can’t wait to go back.
Best staff made our vacation absolutely spectacular!! Betterfly, Joy Boy, JJ and Coca Cola!
great location for our baby moon! we didn’t leave the resort during our stay, but walked up the beach and it was lovely. the resort has multiple pools, a gym, pickleball and tennis courts, and plenty of day time activities. we were never bored. the food and drinks were delicious and the staff was amazing!
Mold in my room, mold in the second room and on mattress after switching, very bad and rude service, unsanitary conditions in restaurants, lipstick on napkins- old food on placements, masseuse doesn’t clean hands between clients on beach, I will never stay here again ; even for free
Our family of six enjoyed the resort. There was always places to sit whether by the pool or on the beautiful private beach. Food and dining options were excellent with the French restaurant out favourite.
The location was splendid. Tbe staff was okay but some had poor service attitudes. Others were great. Food was one step above a carnival cruise line. Not impressed with the food but the beach and views were very nice
Luxurious property in great condition. Large beach but cannot swim in rough waters. Inconsistent service, poor communication among staff. Excellence Club is not worth it.
Excellent property and staff
The resort was very nice would consider again
Outstanding service, staff is well trained. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. The property is beautiful and immaculately kept. They offered great nightly entertainment. The food was fabulous, excellent variety and quality. Their Christmas celebrations were so much fun.
Property is nice and clean. Room is nice, well stocked. Good dining options but food is not the best. The room service options are average and the quality of the food is below average. The staff is overall good, but too many instances of staff that feel the guests are a burden. This last point is disappointing, so I am unlikely to be back to this resort.
Beautiful property and nice staff! Everyone is very friendly and a lot of restaurants to offer. The Excellence Club is perfect for members but the whole property is big which you will always find chairs
Property is a little outdated and Food is mediocre but service is excellent. Very clean.
Amazing property, clean, you can get your spots on the beach or on the seats facing the beach. Food wise isabelle is good, oregano, grill house and lobster … the rest are whatever…
White bedding and towels were beige and dinghy.
The staff and the entretainment staff was the best. We expend Christmas there and they did an amazing Dominican night with food, live music and bachata lessons.
Food and staff are amazing
Expedia charged me an additional charge of 1098.00. This needs to be addressed.
1. I came to punta cana to relax and enjoy. From the first few minutes in the hotel i got disrespected. 2. Explain how i was constantly told by the staff that i couldnt be peruvian because i was not indian looking, and that because i am white with blue eyes i must have come from some german colony, i was told this over 5 times. The racists remarks by your hotel is insane who the hell has this service. It wont allow me to post the whole thing i have written, but i will tell ypu im a gold memeber in booking stayed in over 500 hotels and this was my worst experience ever in my WHOLE LIFE, food terrible, installation is falling down, most days they wont let you get in the ocean, left the hitel a couple days early because of the disrepect and gad the policw follow me out of the hotel when i told them all the bad things, the taxi even told me yeah they dont like having bad reviews, PLEASE STAY AWAY THE STAFF IF THE WORST, I REPEAT STAY AWAY
Excellence Punta Canta was amazing! Clean, friendly staff, nice facilities, good food, and a great price!
I am rating this resort a one-star because we got bit by BED BUGS. At first we thought it was mosquito bites, but we noticed that we were getting bit in our sleep in the bed bug zig-zag, in 3's, or straight line patterns. These bites also looked different from normal mosquito bites. We stayed in the 4000 section. Room is DIRTY. The reviews are misleading. Some important things to note: - there is no dinner buffet. You need to go to a restaurant for dinner, some making you wait 30-45 minutes on a walk-in basis. - The beach water/waves are really choppy. There is a strong current in this location. - The animation team is not present. The shows were really great/fun at night but the most exciting thing during the day is bingo and a bachata/salsa lesson by the pool. - The staff at the resort ranged from unfriendly to friendly. A lot of the time many seemed uninterested in speaking to you. - Excellence club is a total waste of money. There is no difference with or without it. Nobody checks at the pools or beach if you’re excellence club or not. Overall, the rest of the resort was good. The amenities were great: the spa was nice, the basketball/pickleball/tennis courts are beautiful. Restaurants - magna and chez isabelle were amazing. However, please note we are covered in over 30 bed bug bites. We also found a huge cockroach that ran into the wall.
Best of the best
I definitely enjoyed my trip here. I just would advise other travellers that your room might be quite musty when your arrive. There was some mould on the ceiling in the bathroom the room air was pretty thick with the mildew smell. Made it a little bit of a struggle to fall asleep sometimes. The food was pretty decent for an all inclusive. I would recommended the French spot pretty highly. The staff are all very friendly and no complaints there.
Everything was great
Loved everything about the resort. What I disliked is is the bugs that eat you a live after the rain.
The property is smaller than some but beautiful. The staff was amazing and friendly. The nightly entertainment was fun. I didn't love seeing them painting the wall right outside our room because of the smell and stuff being almost right infront of our door, but I also understand they have to do upkeep. All in all my husband and I are very happy with our stay.
I did not get the room I paid for. I got lesser room without compensation. There was no argument. This is what you get and that is it. Management is arrogant end will not listen to any reasoning. I styed there in the past end it was much more pleasant.
Let me start off by saying that the staff here is incredible! Nothing but smiles and great attitudes. If they are tired or have something going on in their personal lives, you would never know it. Also, the property is gorgeous! Very, very clean, and you feel like you are definitely on an upper class resort. The room we stayed in had a private pool and although we did not use the pool that much it was nice and quiet where we stayed which I appreciated. Where they fall short is the food. Not only is the food very average tasting, but the portions are very small. This was my first time being at an all-inclusive resort and I expected the food to not be that good, but I was hoping to be surprised. You pay a lot of money to stay at these resorts so I think they could do a better job of that. I was ready to leave sooner than my vacation was set to end. If you are one of those families that likes to sit around the pool and drink all day, this is the place for you! You will definitely make back the money you spent. I saw several people that were like that. As for me, I’m a foodie, I really enjoy very, very good food and I like large portions. So I’m not going to recommend or not recommend this resort because it’s all based on the type of vacation that you like. I’m glad I went so I was never unsure of how it would turn out but now I know an all inclusive vacation is not for us. Maybe you will have better luck?
Fantastic
Dec stay was perfect!! Not too busy. Food at many restaurants was excellent! Staff is so friendly and helpful, especially trainee Joy Boy!!!! Nightly entertainment was very good. Lots of activities during day if you wanted to do. Will definitely return.
We had a wonderful time. The ambiance was delightful.
Amazing resort! It didn't feel busy and crowded. Resturants were amazing.... you only need reservations if you want the Hibachi grill experience.... otherwise it is walk in-- drinks we're amazing! The only complaint was our pillows smelled like a musty armpit... I'm sure due to the humidity. Our air conditioning worked great the whole time. 10/10 for this resort!
Excellent!
I enjoyed the All Inclusive. The food was not great.
Terrible service
The staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was top notch, specifically Kelvin, our beach waiter. His charming personality and million dollar smile brightened our day. The resort is impeccable. Highly recommend!
Overall excellent property, food, and service

Beautiful resort. Security and staff account for you from the time you step off the plane right up to the minute you get back on one to head home. I saw other resorts that leave you on your own after your check out. Food was great all the time. Entertainment was very fun for singles or groups. Staff was very friendly and was never looking for a tip. Some people gave them but others were treated the same without. I have stayed at other all inclusive and for the price this one beats out others. I am definitely going back.
