Loved the full kitchen and apartment feel
my expectations were on the floor for this place, but i was pleasantly surprised! sure, the lobby and elevator had a bit of a stench, and the hallway to the room is straight out of a horror movie, but the actual room itself was great! decently clean, super spacious, fantastic view, great location, and SO cheap. absolutely coming back on a budget
Nice staff. Large space to move around in. The cleanliness of air system vents bathroom fan was full of dust. Corner of walls had dust webs.. The sofa was in very poor condition.
The English Bay Hotel sounds quaint and charming in a nice location, but it’s only redeeming quality is the location. When you pull up and look at the hotel you are greeted by the run down look of the hotel and in the windows of a couple of the rooms you can see from the street bankers boxes what appeared to be tossed against the glass. But once you step inside you are blasted by the smell. It’s an air freshener nightmare. Checking in - you get a real key with a keychain, not a card key. The ride up to your room in the elevator has large menu’s of the surrounding area Asian restaurant plastered all over the walls. The rooms are extremely dated and need a makeover. The only lock on the door is a a sliding chain. . I think teal walls in high gloss finish are not very relaxing or tasteful. The box springs had stains and was dented and the mattress looks like it was thrown out by someone else marked ‘free’ on the street it was so bad. I definitely will not be back and this hotel should not get a 3 star rating
Old but price for location. Great
It is a dark dingy old hotel, with the smells that come with that. But it is in a great location, location, location. The staff is friendly. It is a 2 star hotel. But i would gladly stay here again. Beach, restaurants, pubs.
You get what you pay for…
Great location! Loved being on the west end. Room was probably great in the 1970’s. Hotels are very expensive in the area. This was the most reasonable. Saggy bed. Awkward shower. Old carpet. Nice view. At this moment - I don’t think I’d stay there again. However- if I saved $100 per night — I just might….
Location was great near Stanley park and beach Lots of places to eat close by
Good for the price you paid for.
Great value.
Wasn’t expecting much and it lived up.
It was o
It’s not too bad for the price. The area around the hotel is pretty nice
Great neighborhood:)
Beautiful view of English Bay across the street and many dining options within walking distance.
Was good
Friendly and easy check in
Fair price for what you get. Obvious older hotel, used to be apartments, room furniture is dated but clean. Bed was comfortable. Parking is a bit tricky, if you have a bigger truck youll probably not get in. Outside is great ! Beach is right there, English Bay, with lots of shops, restaurants and pubs. Fairly trendy. Great scenery.
Great value for a hotel room with a kitchenette in Vancouver.
Easy check in and friendly
For the price, it's a great choice to be close to QE Theater.
Awesome view!
After I found out I was in the room not in the photos, they gave me the room I requested. It had a view of English Bay. It’s a dated hotel. I knew that when I booked it, however, it’s always the odours, especially in the elevator, that isn’t expected. The bed was comfortable. Nice hot shower/bath. Also a kitchenette which we didn’t end up using. We walked everywhere we wanted to from the hotel.
Great location on the west end, near beach and lots of restaurants. Walkable to Grandville Island and Stanley Park. Parking is a pain and large vehicles can't use the hotel parking which is much cheaper than other nearby options. Hotel furnishings are dated but spacious rooms for a good price.
Very good location and an affordable stay. Very close to the beach and lots of dining options. It is very old school, but our room and bathroom were clean. The carpets and kitchenette flooring could definitely use a revamp, and the same goes for the flooring in the hallway/stairwell. Having the kitchenette with a nice-sized fridge was a plus! Also, very comfy beds and clean bedding.
Great location and welcoming environment but place needs a thorough cleaning with new carpets.
We had a quiet restful sleep here in April 2025. We were surprised because we arrived at 10pm on a Friday & the neighbourhood was lively with folk in the streets. Our room faced out back & thankfully very quiet! The hotel is old, not much to look at, & all the eqt /furniture in our room was old, but it was remarkably clean & the staff very friendly. Lastly, & all so important along w cleanliness & safety, this was the cheapest place to stay in West end Vancouver! Thank you!
The English Bay Hotel offers a cool and laid-back 1970’s vibe. It is located in a very peaceful and friendly area of Vancouver. The staff are friendly, accommodating, and kind. Thank you, English Bay Hotel.

Affordable stay and close to downtown!
Back at the English Bay Hotel in Vancouver! The rooms are cozy, warm, and have a cool 1970's vibe.
I normally like four or a five star property however for a two store it was wonderful. The beds were extremely comfortable and the view was spectacular and the staff was really good with my requests.
The English Bay Hotel offers genuine service and hospitality in an ideal location. The rooms have a 1970s kind of vibe, which can be remarkably refreshing in today’s fast-paced and pretentious world. Thank you, English Bay Hotel.
luxury view
what a fantastic location and comfortable place to stay
Love the location
The staff were really nice and and that made my trip worth it. They were always saying hello and waved. They were very informative and have excellent advise for where i could find a resturant or places to eat.very family friendly, i will definitely stay here again and recommend them to family and friends thankyou 😊
It's certainly an older, outdated hotel, but is our favorite to stay at in Vancouver -- you can't beat the price and location: what a great area! Rooms are always clean, you get a full kitchen, and a view of the beach!
The English Bay Hotel is located in a great location, a minute's walk from English Bay, close to lots of restaurants, and on two bus routes -- 6 Davie and 5 Downtown, which takes you right to the art gallery. Both connect with the Skytrain. The building appears to have been built in the 1950s and it is showing its age. Although the suites are fairly spacious, and include a kitchen, some of the amenities need an update -- the shower tap was very hard to control temperature, and there were not enough electrical outlets and those that existed often wouldn't hold the connection with appliances as the plugs were loose. There is a gated parking garage (extra $$) and on my trip in February, I had no trouble getting a space. Unfortunately, you have to climb a steep concrete stairway to get to the lobby, where you can catch a slow elevator. Given that many Vancouver hotels have risen in price exponentially, this was a slightly less expensive option. I recommend it for the location and for those trying to control their costs.
Great location
Very dated hotel. Taps were barely held on. Quite clean. Old carpet no renovations done. Kitchenette was very dated and only 1 burner worked on the oven. Happy to have a nice size fridge. Fairly well stocked. Nothing fancy. Was clean and beds were alright. Was nice they had a heater and fans. Great location!
If you want downtown for cheap. This is it.
The location and price were amazing. Staff very nice and accommodating. Outdated but clean and very roomy. I would definitely come back! Ocean minutes away.

Property location is great. You can see the water from the rooms. Convenient spot and has underground parking. Hotel staff were good. Unfortunately the property is very out dated and because of that, it feels dirty. To be clear the property was not dirty - it just felt that way. Prices in Vancouver were so expensive this weekend we didn’t have a choice and had to book this spot.
The room was huge. Super quiet. Super clean in the room. The building is a bit dated but the price is definitely right.
Interesting place, obviously very old and I guess you could say “dingy@“ but I saw no sketchy people or heard any crazy fights. My unit had a full kitchen, desk, satellite tv, everything a guy needs.
I always book here whenever I visit Vancouver.
Love this place. Friendly staff, accommodating and helpful.
The property isn’t clean and is too old
.
So close to English Bay, which we could see from our room
Nice budget place to stay, lots to do and close to the water. Can get much better for the price
Nice big and comfortable
Big room with large bathroom and big bed , even a small kitchen and fridge .moreover near to beach and bus stop
Great property with nice views of the English bay. The elevator wasnt working when we went, seemed like it want working for a long tine. Cleanliness was below average, stinky staircase and corridors. Lot of stairs to climb.
No thing special to say.
Hotel is dated but service as good and location is great.
Beautiful location with harbor view. Worst smelling elevator I've ever been in.
Slay
Very good location for everything you need
Travelling with teenagers
You get what you pay for. This place was awesome for our family. The suite was perfect. Family of five - 3 teenagers- we need Somme space for everyone and they accommodated with excellence. Love the room, kitchen with plates and stove, lots of room for everyone. I highly recommend for anyone travelling on a budget and doesn’t mind a room that’s a bit dated. *loved the view
The room was so smelly and there is no toothpaste light are not working tv are not working
I like this hotel. I go in the off-season and enjoy the west end and staying near my kids's place around the corner. The building is quirky and old, and the elevator is haunted (I swear it). It's a foody's paradise in almost every direction from the hotel.
Good
Good!
It was close to the bay, within a block. The room was clean, but very old and could stand to be updated with new carpet and chairs.
Great staff, great localization. Is good deal
Old, but quaint property. Room was comfortable, clean and well equipped
Smells bad, the height of the shower is for the height of a child
The only thing I could tolerate here was the sharwama shop downstairs and the kitchenette, though there were broken plates that would have cost nothingto replace. The picture of the hotel before i rented was not what i saw. That was deceptive. Again, the maintenance nees to be upgraded. The elevator stank. I could see them struggling to maintain the hygienic state but such a hotel is way below expectations in the current age and time.
The room we ended up with wasn’t the same as in the ad, staff was good, accommodated us, got in the end what we expected, cheap accommodation in west end Vancouver, good enough to sleep in was the main thing
I liked that we were near the water and close to several restaurants with a variety of menus. I liked that it is a vintage property. The room was very unique. Furnishings & decor were from the 50's - 70's. The linens were clean, as was the bathroom. The sad part is that it is not well maintained. Several of the electrical outlets did not work and there were not very many of them. Thank goodness I travel with a wall wort that you can plug several things into. There was a horrible smell when we entered the elevator... it was disgusting! Our grandson is 17 and lives in a rural area of Nevada. He is familiar with rodent odors in storage buildings for yard maintenance tools. He confirmed it was the odor of rodents. And the final disaster was a broken suitcase! On checkout day we went to the elevator. We were on the 3rd floor and waited for at least 10 mins for the elevator. we called the office and no one answered. We had called for an Uber who by then was waiting for us. We finally took the narrow staircase to the lobby, but in the process of descending the stairs, the suitcase handle was broken!!! Making it very difficult to handle for the remaining week of our trip. When we finally got to the lobby someone was holding the door and ignoring the call to allow the elevator to ascend. It was a sad and frustrating ending to a very interesting stay at a unique place.
terrible odour in hallways.
Good value for money....
Nice for in’s price. Note that the garbage trucks come in the middle of the night right where hotel is. And shawarma cafe sometimes plays music till midnight
There was a bit of a smell in our room, and a whine from the hallway that I couldn't place. Excellent location, great restaurants all around.
Good location in walkable neighborhood with good public transit connection. This is an older property and would appeal to budget-minder travelers.
This hotel was utterly and terribly dirty and very disgusting. This hotel is so run down, carpets and floors look like they have never seen a vacuum cleaner or a mop. I was so disappointed when I had arrived because it does not advertise as you see upon booking online. This hotel is not worth it and will gladly spend extra money to stay at much cleaner hotel.
Great location and value for the area. Berry walkable and we had an ocean view. Loved the full kitchen convenience too!
Must be cleaned and upgraded
Terrible. Dirty. Disgusting. Only for prostitution
very warm and welcoming. good environment for someone who comes as a tourist.
washrooms were not clean
The room is very clean. The blankets are pretty old. There is no place for toilet paper but the top of the water tank. The doors to the shower do not work properly. The location is great for our travel purpose.
If you are taking Prometric Exam for NCAS. I recommend you this hotel
A older buuilding this gave me the 'back packers' vibe. but it was easy to walk to Stanley park and even doen to Canada place(without luggage) A little confusion over the taps - but once explained all worked fine. The first person on reception from Brazil was good which was a nice welcome. And although I could hear people enjoying the evening below it wasn't enough to disturb - and the econ was nice. All in all, this suited my needs , thanks Cheers
Parking was very small area, not clean.
I was pretty disappointed. The walls are peeling, carpets are old and stained. Bathroom did seem updated, which is the only reason I did not leave. Staff was nice and friendly
horrible smells, disaster parking situation, unacceptable condition, move on to next option at any cost
Location is wonderful
I could have been more clean out side the room.
Start here
Affordable place in an excellent area
Hotel is located in the front if English bay, you can see ocean, so that's great. Receptionist keeps all information in papers! I liked it, its so old school. But building is so old and renovation was here long time ago. First floor of building its place for lots of fast food restaurants, but their cleanliness could be better. Inside hitel is always working airfreshers, so i cannot saying its bad smell inside, but heavy, so for people with asthma it's difficult to breathe. Towels and bedsheets were with torns. What i liked that bathroom and kitchen were clean, bathroom equipment was prepared good. This place need to be renovated and replaced carpets, old chairs, towels, bedsheets, also deleted from first floor poor fast food.
Frightening experience
A fight in the next room with a woman screaming and bodies being knocked around against the wall caused me to check out early the next morning and not stay my second night. I told the management I was frightened and I needed to leave. I wanted to refund and was told that was impossible.
Easy to everything
We weren’t expecting it to be incredible but it was pretty dirty/old. Bright green algae was growing inside the top of the faucet. Keep your socks on in the room and good luck balancing shower water between unbearably hot and freezing cold. We were offered the spare key for our room, then told the last guests had actually failed to turn it in, which seems like it should be a huge problem to me? It was just a regular turnkey, so they probably should be getting locks changed if previous guests are taking them with them. We kept the chain on whenever we were in the room. I will say though - the location is great and the price is low. We weren’t here for an incredible hotel, we wanted to explore the city and area. Definitely hedge your bets with this one, it will be as bad as you think if not worse - but if you need a deal, this is probably it. I wouldn’t stay here more than three nights, maximum. And if you stay in #222, make sure they’ve changed the locks!
Great location, close to shops. Property a bit dated but suitable for a couple of nights.
noisy guests no place in the hotel to hang out worn out carpets
Pros: - Refurbished apartment, so large room for a good price - Larger rooms have kitchen with appliances (not sure about smaller rooms) - Great location for young/active people. Very close to the beach and lots of hole-in-the wall dining and bars - Free coffee and tea in the lobby - Included Wifi was great - Has coin-op laundry (did not use, but noticed was there) Mid: - Has a small, underground parking lot for $20 a day (but really hard and annoying to get in and out of. Bring a small car!) - Desk service, while mostly passive, provided amenities and assistance when asked. Room service was only upon request Cons: - No complimentary breakfast - The place feels old and dated. Most furniture are actually clean, but look really dirty due to age unknown stains - We booked 2 large rooms, and because of the piecemeal renovations, had some weird issues. 1 room had a really slippery bathtub and no place to hang toilet paper next to the toilet. Another bathroom had a horrible arrangement. The toilet was butt up against the door and toilet paper making for an unsittable experience (plus the door had a carved-out hole to be able to swing past the toilet to close) - Elevator broke down on us twice during our 3 night stay - These last point are personal preferences. The location not for large groups, people with low mobility, people with their own/rental cars (especially larger vehicles), or in general, people who dislike or are unused to the noisy hustle and bustle of downtown life
Pro: location, quiet when windows closed Cons: old as in stove from 1970s! I don’t mind older decor, but carpets need to be replaced every decade or so. Elevator was out a couple times. First room smelled horribly of urine and bleach, switched me to one that only smelled musty. I kept window open 24/7. I would not stay here again.
Good value for location

Not worth the money but view of water was great and a walk in Stanley park
