Honest Review
Comfortable room, very spacious, bathroom is small. Very loud early morning, rattling of doors but otherwise good for price. Area feels safe.
I would definitely stay here again. It’s located on a busy street. It’s a short walk from the Embarcadero BART station if you’re planning to walk or be out on the street be prepared to encounter the homeless.
No hot water, no towels (of any kind), used tissue underneath dresser.
Could that find my name in the system and send me to dirty rooms would not recommend
5th floor room was not representative of pictures posted. Shabby carpeting. Probably reflected by price, but still, possibly lower floors updated already.
Easy acces, the place is clean
Overall it was good. It had a vintage feel and was clean. The bed was comfortable. Parking was inconvenient and we couldn't even figure out how to get in the first night. However, we called the hotel and they were really helpful. There was no shampoo or conditioner and the vending machines were broken. The area the hotel is in is not the best. There was graffiti and homeless camps a street over. However, the property is under 24 hour surveillance and I felt safe when we were on the hotel.
I love the old Art Deco building and the interesting room from 1930s, however, the place is shabby--not a 3-star hotel. Although this is the border of the Tenderloin, good location with dining locally. The room was cold (old fashioned radiator only on infrequently), the carpet dirty, the furniture antique. Three miniscule pillows on a king-sized bed and took 48 hours to get two extras. The shower luke-warm at best. Wanted to like this old place, but won't return.
Horrible experience, when we arrived there were no clean towels in our room, no hot water. We left early. Morning to go see the city and when we arrived back to our room in the evening the front desk clerk had allowed a complete stranger into our room. The stranger had been drinking and gone through our stuff. The clerk didn't kick the stranger out, just gave us another room. Parking was a additional $60 was a very scary experience. I would like to request a refund cause we felt very unsafe
Old buildings is all
Neighbourhood is quite rough, especially in two directions from the hotel. Room had no A/C and having the window open didn’t do much but allow the noise in. Even though it wasn’t hot outside, the room was too warm. If you have a car, parking is limited and expensive. Room had minimal power points. It did have plenty of drawers for clothes and a walk in wardrobe.
The hotel is too old. You can walk and hear the wood floors cracking. No water pressure, the elevator is not working properly. Parking is too expensive.
Room was small and not very clean for the price paid.
The motel is average no facilities for coffee or tea the are is unsafe would not advise for women to stay there without a man. I was with my husband and we were frightened to catch public transport we had to catch cabs everywhere we went.
Very outdated amenities and the property was not as clean as the photos would have you believe.
Fantastic service for the price, any issue I had was immediately fixed. Always came back to a serviced room without even asking, which is nice.
Great hotel. Superfriendly staff. great deal. expect little from the water pressure, but the classy hotel somehow makes up for it.
I enjoyed the stay and room like a old Victorian hotel back in the day and the just the experience it self its wonderful overall.
Can’t beat this location.
This hotel is all about location. It’s an older facility with limited amenities, but the staff is super helpful and the rooms are comfortable. It’s near EVERYTHING. I definitely plan to stay here again.
Hotel is in a horrible location that is riddled with homeless and drug users. As I was walking I could literally see the drugs being used right on the street, not to mention the urine and feces on the pavement. I was in town for one night only or I would have definitely left the hotel and or the area. According to a gentleman outside measuring the entire building is in Escrow and will be sold soon. DO NOT STAY IN THIS AREA if you expect safe/ clean.
Quiet area around downtown San Francisco
everyone was very nice, great place to stay.
Bathroom smells. Shower doesn’t drain. Other than that it was fine.
I didn’t like anything about the property. They advertise valet parking and there no valet parking. I had to pay 45.00 dollars for parking in the public parking.
Parking was conveniently located in back of the building for only $30. Hotel was very cozy!
In the WORST part of San Fransisco!! Homeless encampments for blocks around the hotel. Open drug consumption and dealing. Intermittent sirens all night, gun shots one night, lots of yelling and street noise. The hotel is ok. Old and wood framed so you here every movement of everyone on the floor. Room was clean.
On line it said free parking, ended up paying for parking. No A/C
One of the worst experience for staying at a hotel property was extremely dirty seats in bed had stains on it cockroach in the left wall. I had to knock on the door to get them to open the lobby. Door parking was extremely frustrating. And the price was way too much for the service and facilities never again.
It's a very strange neighborhood!
Staff were nice. Room was clean. Room smelled good.
Suzzi
I didn’t get a chance to stay d/t working late, working on my apartment but the man at the desk was very helpful and friendly.
It was a great room. Nice size bed and room. The walk-in closet was awesome! The only drawback is the room was very cold because they don't offer heating or AC. There's a radiator but it's for show; it doesn't work.
The property was unique in that it is right in the middle of everything and very easy to get around. The area itself can be a little unnerving. If you go in one direction no problem another direction and you may find some unsavory characters lurking about. My advice is just go where you need to go a get back to your room. Now the room, my room had no a/c and no ceiling fan. The good news is you're in SF and you just need to open a window and you are nice and cool. The phone in the room did not work, the soda machines in the basement does not work but the ice machine does. The elevator is quite small and gets very busy at times. The place had its charm. I think if I was with my lady I would've chosen a different hotel, but alone it was cool.
Good experience, nice front desk staff, housekeeping is good.
booked a room with a single bed and got two queens :/
This is not a 3 star hotel
This is a not a 3 star hotel as advertised - no fridge - no microwave - walls and ceiling are thin and you can hear your neighbors
.
Old hotel needs an update and deep cleaning
The staff was kind but overall the hotel is old and you can tell in everything. It smelled of mold, the carpet was crusty, the decor was outdated. You could taste the mold and dust in the air. We actually left early and got a different hotel because we were waking up with sore throats that went away as we left the hotel to do other things. Would not recommend.
we made a reservation in another place where when we arrived they simply canceled us when searching for the expedia app we found embassy hotel more central and close to the places we wanted to visit without problem they stayed in the room very friendly
The hotel was nice
Go a little further up town
A bit disappointed really. Hotel is tired. Comfy bed and the room and bathroom was clean. Clean towels everyday. Very noisy location sirens all the time and noisy pipes. The hotel walls are thin so could hear everything!
Had to pay parking
Do NOT STAY DANGEROUS
It was an awful experience but nothing we could do . The hotel was filthy and stank and also homeless people living in the rooms . Homeless people hassling us outside and trying to get in the building . The hotel should NOT be in hotels.con
Surprise not what you expected
The beds were the worst part...we were sleeping on the springs...and the smell of the rooms were really bad...we could not open the window's because their are no screens...i would not go back to this hotel...so sad ..
Best bang for your buck
I loved staying at the hotel... very clean and had rusty charm to it... bathrooms need upgradeing but for a night stay it is perfect. If coming with kids or family i dont recommend thos hotel. But if u just adults perfect place walk able distance to market, civic center and union square. Hotel is not in a good or clean neighborhood hotel in itself is very clean, comfortable beds, room was just big enough for me and my friend... i would stay again ...
Terrible conditions and Oder
Well the first room had dirty stains and possibly human feces. The second room was ok but not what we were expecting. All that was described in the website. The people next door were very loud all night making noises and smoking weed. Highly disappointed
The hotel is decent but the area es extremely unsafe. We even heard shots at night. Staff were friendly but still, keys wouldn’t work, doors were broken, among others
Not a Family Hotel
Was expecting a non smoking facility and the entire hotel remnant’s of smoke and cheap air freshener. Gave me a headache and my youngest child non stop sneezing because he’s allergic.
This hotel stunk horribly and when we got to our hotel room the toilet didn’t have a seat on it. We left immediately.
Located in downtown SF, close to most things. The bathroom needs to be updated and there were disgusting fruit flys everywhere! If you need somewhere to rest your head..it’s fine. But to enjoy your stay..not so much!
The hotel is old and dated but inexpensive so you get what you pay for. We got two rooms, one was musty and one wasnt. Our top sheet had hairs from other guest on it but the inner linen was clean. Easy checkin and checkout with convient gated parking in the back for $30 a day. If you need a place to stay near the city center this isnt a bad choice, just don't come in with high expectations and you'll be fine. Note that it is in a dangerous neighborhood, surrounding blocks are lined with drug dealers and homeless but thats not hotels fault
Great value
Very reasonable, central location, attached parking, very helpful front desk.
Only thing I didn’t like was parking and only one elevator
Outdated Hotel
Guest service was very nice; however the hotel is very dated. The first room we were given had a lot of gnats and we were moved. The room and bathroom was small and very small and tight. The bed was hard. If you don't have to be walking distance to downtown SF, I would recommend staying somewhere else. Overall, not bad as we needed to be walking distance to Bill Graham but would not stay there again.
Steer clear
Check in was far too slow. Was given the wrong room but didn’t want to argue about it since I was only saying one night. Couldn’t even do that. The beds were dirty and uncomfortable. No air conditioning, just a radiator. With the humidity of the city had to keep a window open. Couldn’t even really sleep so I checked out early in the morning.
I love how clean the bed and sheets are and how vintage it looks too. What I don’t like is that there is no air conditioner. Overall, it’s a great place to stay if your on a budget.
Great
Pillows could have been comfier, other than that amazing hotel & great customer service. Even gave candy out for Halloween!
👎👎👎
Pictures of just not what I was looking for Fort Worth
Should have researched better
We only had one bed and two towels for four adults. Tried to get extra bedding and was told they'd handle it in the morning even though we were checking out .didn't know parking was30$ extra until checking in.my bad.should have researched better
One hour to check in
I arrived after midnight and the clerk was not finding my booking. Instead of him searching for my paid reservation he was on youtube watching videos. It's seems he didn't know what's the hell was doing. Since I arrived so late I requested a late check out but it was useless for housekeeping began to knock on the room door way ahead of the normal check out time.
The whole building is unique as well as the surrounding and good price. I use that hotel again.
This property
Worst hotel experience ever had
I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Neighborhood was noisy and you could hear conversion from adjacent rooms. Bedside lights were unplugged, bed was uncomfortable to sleep on...just to name a few. For the price we paid for this room, an extra $20 will get you a very comfortable room just a few blocks away.
Good hotel
Very reasonable prices, the hotel is old and smelled like old wood but other than that the sercive was good and clean even though for precautions i still cleaned my self and disinfected.
👎
Nice place to stay. Note- when parking it’s off the Turk side behind the hotel.
It’s OK for like one night but I wouldn’t recommend staying more than three
Don’t do it!
This hotel is filthy and smells of mildew. I planned a trip to San Francisco for my mother’s birthday and some friends came along— THIS IS THE HOTEL WE BOOKED! I felt completely embarrassed to have even suggested this place for lodging to my family and friends. Not even worth what we paid for them. Anyway, we didn’t stay. We took the loss of same day cancellation and stayed at the Warwick instead.
The parking space you had to pay 30 dollars per night and call or go inside to get the gate to open
Bill is the best 😃
It was great customer service. The staff was very friendly and helpful. No complaints no problems walk around or at the facility very clean room service daily
This hotel is super cute with it's art deco decor, beautiful furniture, flooring, and detail work in the lobby area. The coffee shop was currently closed due to the pandemic, but I am sure that it will be coming back sometime soon. The staff were wonderful and helpful as well as available 24 hours, so my check in at midnight from my red eye was easy. It's a quick ride from the airport. The hotel is located in the Tenderloin, so there was some city noise car blowing through the streets, a very loud drunk woman with her friends, and a cat in heat calling out occasionally in the night, but that's nothing when it comes to big city noise. I felt safe walking through the neighborhood. It's located close to the business district and the international district, so lots of sites to walk to. I even got to see part of the filming of the new Nash Bridges remake. I plan on coming back and staying there. I learned that they are dog friendly so next time the husband and the pooch will be on my booking reservation.
Embassy Should Have Paid Me For Booking A Room
Old and run down. Felt like there was not any padding under the carpet. Musty smell. People lived in the hotel. Lacked Embassy elegance on the inside. Old carpet. Dirty walls. Stains here and there. I felt like they should have paid me to stay there. I did like my window because I could open it and air out the musty room. Even the hall way was musty.
Quite quaint. A little dirty.
We had a nice stay Very nice staff I was surprised that there wasn’t a mini fridge or microwave since there was such a big closet the sheets did have stains and their were some leftovers under the bed
The property was historic in it's looks and we loved the feel although the rooms are dark and dingy, the showers didn't work properly and the linen was old and worn. San Fran is expensive and this is moderately priced but was disappointing and next time we will spend more to stay somewhere cleaner.
Look elsewhere
Was not like the pictures. The room received was very dated, the radiator in the corner hissed all night long. Paint was peeling off the walls and furniture was Ill fitting for the room.
Convenient
Small but comfortable and clean rooms. Would stay here again for a short trip.
Dont stay here
Very sub par and only one person at desk. Parking lot around the corner. No clear signage outside on polk street about parking lot only on polk. My husband is disabled and the door from parking lot to hotel was locked before midnight. He struggled to walk around the building to front door. Coffee shop attached has a doordash app. One persin shop. She was busy filling those orders and seeemed bother by the face to face customers. No coffee in rooms. Most unpleasant Hotel experience in my 57 years on earth
The parking they say it’s going to be 20.00!but they share 30.00
Hotel definitely didn’t look as nice as it did on website
Well I have stayed here many times, now I remember the staffs names , not once did I feel any one even recognized I've been there before. Honestly, I won't be returning.
It’s an old hotel. That means old design and fixtures and a single tiny, slow elevator. But the rooms are clean and comfortable and the closets are huge walk-ins. Staff is very friendly. It’s the Tenderloin, so the neighborhood is a little sketchy. Ladies will not feel comfortable out alone after dark. But there is decent dining nearby, and if you are in the city for business at the Phillip Burton Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse on Golden Gate Ave, this is the place you want to stay. It’s literally right across the street.
1. Saw three cockroaches in the room - including one on my bed in the morning. 2. Room smelled like an old building. 3. Pillows are terrible. 4. Bed felt damp.
Hotel needs major updating. Needs to be aware of drug use outside of front door and around property..
Very unsafe bad neighborhood. Hotel smelled like weed and no AC.
Nice old hotel. The lowest cost I could find in San Francisco. No food service except a sandwich shop next door that has a door into the lobby. Parking is extra, but the total cost is still a lot less than most SF hotels.
the walls were so thin that you could hear everything in adjacent rooms. Noisy guests kept us awake most of the night, our phone didn't work so we were unable to call reception.
The parking situation sucked, but that’s not surprising for SF. You can’t pull up in front of the hotel you have to stop at the loading zone around the corner, but if you miss it you have to go in a circle to get back to it.. the staff is not friendly or even helpful. I asked if there was a cart or dolly to help carry up our luggage and the guy behind the desk just said “I don’t know where it is right now” and didn’t bother to try to look for it. Our room was dusty and had 2 bugs on the wall, in the middle of the night I found a cockroach in the bathroom, and there were tons of nats around all the lights. Each bed only had 2 pillows on it, one for each person. I’ve never stayed in a hotel with just one pillow.. and each pillow was marked with the room number and you could see it through the pillow case. There was cigarette burns in one of the blankets and the furniture in the room was obviously too large for the room. Very disappointed in the cleanliness. But we were just in need of a close location to City Hall. It worked, but was gross.
Very poor condition. We didn’t feel safe. The rooms were so smelly even if we opened the windows. The beds and linens were dirty.
This place was just fine for my stay. I was here on business. This hotel was a fair rate given the condition of the building. Though I honestly enjoyed the older aesthetic and vintage feel. This hotel has character and charm. Is it what you'd consider a "nice hotel"? No, it isn't. But everything I needed was there - a cozy room, a comfortable bed, clean room/bathroom, solid water pressure in the shower. The staff at the front desk were also very kind my entire stay. It felt very comfortable. I had an overall great 2 night stay here and would come back again. However, if I were in a position where I needed to leave the hotel in the evenings I would not feel comfortable walking around by myself. Something to note.
Felt like staying at someone’s grandma’s house
You could tell by the condition of the lobby and elevator, that the hotel was older. Check in was easy and quick. There is only one elevator for the building. Our door was opened when we arrived. Although our room was fairly clean, there were cracks in the bathroom wall/ceiling/tile that was haphazardly spackled. The ironing board cover had old stains on it. The positive was the price was low for downtown San Francisco.
Rude employees
Horrible customer service
The hotel is basic and stained sheets and towels. Location is not that safe
VMWorld
not such a good area to be walking around. no coffee in the room. but for money it was ok
A step above the homeless.
There was no air conditioner in the rooms. No ceiling fans in the rooms. No coffee at the hotel. No breakfast. Rooms were smelly and outdated.
No A/C
This is an old building with charm. The location is in the Tenderloin area, many homeless people. The staff had excellent directions for public transportation and were very helpful. This hotel is in an area where you stay in at night.
