Great location. Beautiful decor. Very cozy! I would definitely recommend this place.
Beautiful views, warm reception, colorful decor
Beautiful mountain views from the hotel room balcony. Front desk and security staff were very kind and helpful. There was quite a bit of noise from construction and celebrations on the plaza del armas. But would definitely recommend this adorable and colorful place.
El Retablo - Deluxe Room w/ King Bed review
Our room was amazing! Very decorative and the staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable. Breakfast was amazing as well.
One of the most unique hotels I've ever stayed in. The art in every room and outside at the property is amazing. Very unique and nothing like I have ever seen. Staff was informative and helpful. For the price you will not find a better hotel in Cusco
Unique charm with hand painted celings and touches. A grear stay!
Amazing choice in Cusco
This was an excellent hotel. The staff were great! the details in the decor was beautiful! Everything was walkable, and the beautiful Inca remains are just a 10 minute walk uphill.
I loved the fact that it was clean and decorated with bright colors. I loved the staff. I think transportation to and from the airport should be included.
Beautiful decor and close to main square
Unfortunately, I was suffering from altitude sickness while staying here, but the staff did everything they could to make me more comfortable. The hotel is beautifully decorated. Word to the wise though: don't think you're going to have an easy time lugging heavy bags up the two or three sreep blocks to access the hotel from town.
Cusco is Pretty cool.
We had a great stay in Cusco. This hotel was in walking distance to a lot and when we did need a taxi, they were very helpful in arranging that for us.
Loved the beautiful blue doors and painted flowers everywhere. The bed was amazingly comfy and we had a great view of the city. The breakfast, included in the stay, was delicious with lots of variety. The wifi was fairly weak due to the heavy stone walls and the property is up a steep cobbled side street so be prepared to walk (9 out of 10 taxis we asked refused the ride because the street is one-way and too steep).
Love every minute.! Everybody was soo polite, helpful.Me and my husband we thank you for everything.!
I would give this hotel an excellent review on everything, but the location turned out to be very challenging. It is located on a very narrow street and no taxis wanted to go there (and most didn't even know where it was). If we were lucky to find a taxi willing to take us there, the taxi would have to drop us off at the base of the hill where the hotel is located because the street is so narrow, no vehicle could go thru and it was just awful carrying our luggage. The staff went above and beyond to help us, but we would not recommend the place if you are not a hiker that enjoys going up hill on very challenging roads. Kudos to Macdeli from the lunch room and Adrianita from reception, they were just the most friendly ever.
The building and rooms are so cute and lovely! The staff were super helpful and positive; my only negative is that, because it's a little, boutique place in a refurbished colonial manor, the restaurant/cafe is quite small and limited. There's lots of great places nearby, though.
Lovely and confortable
Lovely and cozy place the only thing was the heater that wasn’t working in our room but after we told them they gave us an electric one to put in the room so everything was fine then. I really recommend it and we would come back for sure.
Excellent hotel in Cusco. My 2-year old girl loves the complementary chocolates served in small handmade baskets. The location is on the hill and the view is great. The only problem is that it might not be a wheelchair/stroller friendly hotel since the street is pretty steep. Spacious room, great staffs, great food, and free oxygen make this hotel one of the greatest choices in Cusco.
This colorful hotel was a great stay for 4 of us for 2 nights. The rate was reasonable and most of all the staff was very helpful arranging private vans and tours at the last minute.
Awesome location, beautiful Hotel and amazing amenities. Be smart around the city. We were there for New Year’s Eve and my iPhone was stolen from my pocket - nothing that was the hotels fault but be aware that this could happen. The staff and security at the hotel makes you feel very safe and cared for.
Very lovely hotel! and staffs are very nice! Closed to main square, very convenient!
We found this hotel to be the perfect mix of modern comforts and traditional decor and architecture. It was ideally located just a short walk from the town center but far enough away to be very quiet. The view from our balcony was wonderful. The breakfast buffet was delicious. In short, we loved it and would definitely return!
Amazing little boutique hotel with above and beyond service - we loved the little gift 💝. Location is a bit discrete up a very steep hill but worth the trek for us.
Great place to stay between the Plaza de Armas and ruins at the top of the city. Really enjoyed the happy hour with live music (even if some nights we were the only ones there!)
While the hotel facilities are no less than a 5 star hotel, some feedback here: Room size was crampy. The hotel location is very up hill. I was totally exhausted walking from the Plaza de Aramas, though it may be just 200 meters..
This hotel has the most amazing colorful decor and atmosphere. Great little breakfast spread and th cutest lobby area. Not to mention the views from the rooms were amazing, def a hike up to the hotel itself but so so worth it! Loved this place!
Loved it so much we booked again for when we get back from muchu pichu hike.
The hotel is very nice, the staff is very friendly and the breakfast is excellent. The big negative for me is the location. It's up on the mountain away from the Plaza. Which ordinarily would not be a problem. But, at that altitude and if you make the climb back on your first day you may be in for a couple days of pounding headaches and shortness of breath.
Beautiful property, welcoming staff, comfortable rooms
This hotel is one of a kind. It is beautiful, the staff is so friendly and accommodating, and it’s the perfect location in Cusco. Perched up on the hill, it and be a bit of a hike up to your room, but the view & the amenities are totally worth it.
Very comfortable, lovely setting and beautiful decoration. Also quiet and the breakfast was delicious.
Stunning b&b with great breakfast
Fantastic. They kept our bags whilst we were in matchu pitchu. A bit of hike to reach it and taxis don’t always know where it is.
Great hotel
Friendly staff, great value. Very central location makes it easy to explore all of Cusco central attractions.
Clean, comfortable, and unique.
Very colorful and unique aesthetic. Clean and comfortable Cusco hotel. I loved that the interior was full of local flavor, it really made me feel like I was living in Cusco, something that wouldn’t be possible in a generic cookie cutter hotel.
Outstanding accommodation and nice and helpful staff. Situated a little up and quite neighborhood but immediately when walkin down the best area with the best restaurants ect in Cusco. The only comment I have that they have to check their shower. Unfortunately is was cold and they manage to solve the problem but still. They were even so kind to give us an upgrade when we returned but also that morning we had a cold shower. Further everything is perfect and we would definitely stay here again!
Nice place- but beware of "Superior" room size
The location is good- 3 blocks from the Plaza del Arms in Cusco. Rooms are small. When I tried to book a second night, they gave us 4 different answers. Finally booked a room online, classified as Superior for more money. They shoved us in a smaller room, with no windows.
This place is a gem. I loved the bright colorful artwork throughout the property. Best pillows and goose down blanket, I slept sooooo well. Lots of consistency with hot water in shower and heat in room. Great city views on 2nd floor. Lots of little details in room to welcome you. Close to main plaza where you’ll do most of your dining and shopping and sightseeing. It’s fantastic.
Very well positioned between the Plaza de Armas and Sacsayhuaman. Nice clean comfortable room. Good buffet breakfast with crepes or eggs cooked to order. Only negative was that my room had a tannoy attached which broadcast music quite loudly for part of the evening, but the staff were very helpful and overall highly recommended.
Amazing staff, clean rooms and wonderful breakfast. We tried to stay there again during our vacation but they were already booked up
Such a wonnderful place to stay. Very close to city center and the staff is very warm and friendly.
The bed are really comfortable! Breakfast are so nice. We really enjoyed it. But location is in the up hill so go back from plaza will bit tired
Great staff! Good location. Lots of character.
The staff was great. Very friendly and helpful. They helped us order dinner for delivery from a local Polleria (chicken place), called our tour guide when they were late, etc...). The hotel has a lot of character with very nice decorations. The TV and WIFI worked well if you need that while in Cusco. The bathrooms are a little small but the water pressure was great. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were a decent size. The location is nice. A bit up the hill from the plaza but not a difficult walk. We stayed on two different occasions (a night in Machu Picchu in between) and they kept our luggage for us so that we could take just a few things. Our first room had a great view of the city. Our second room was in a courtyard and nice and quiet. The included breakfast was good and they had eggs and crepes available on request. They also had live music during the happy hour. Decent food options and my wife claimed they had the best pisco sour she had during our entire trip to Peru. I would definitely stay here again.
Can't say enough good things!
My husband and I were very impressed by the staff at El Retablo. We had a day tour planned for 4:00 AM and the night before they made us aware that the tour operator contacted them to confirm this and asked if we had any food allergies because the hotel staff would make us a packed breakfast to be waiting for us in the morning- completely unexpected but very appreciated. As for the daily breakfast at the hotel, it was great and they had made to order items such as crepes and omelettes all included. The room was very clean and pretty. The hotel staff recognized us and were helpful and friendly. This hotel was perfect for us and we can't say enough good things. Only downside is the amount of stairs between the location and Cusco's center. Thanks El Retablo!
Very clean, creative atmosphere, friendly staff!
Hotel with great service
This is a very nice art deco hotel type. The hotel entrance is located in an alley but they do have 24 hours security and reception, so felt safe walking back at night. It's a bit uphill but very common in Cusco town I guess. Just walk slowly and you should be fine. But recommend taking a taxi if you have suitcase or heavy backpack as Cusco is at a high altitude which a slight slope would feel more struggling even if you're fit. The hotel doesn't have an escalator but the staff might be able to help you with your suitcase. Free breakfast is served and you can order eggs your own ways and crepes which is a huge plus. The hotel is in a quieter location not super close to bars/hostels but still walking distance to the plaza and bars. I had a good stay in general but please note this hotel building might be a bit dated so if you're not on the topmost floor you could hear your neighbors walking sound which could be a bit annoying if you need to get up early for tours or trains/buses, etc. Also, if you let the reception know you need to be out early for tours, they can help prepare a breakfast box for you, which was a huge bonus for me (as the breakfast provided by the tour was so basic with bread and butter only, luckily the hotel prepared a sandwich with ham and cheese and some fruits and snacks for my day hike to Rainbow Mountain). Overall, I had a very comfortable stay in this hotel. The shower was great, can't ask for more than a hot shower after a long day hike!
Excellent staff and great customer service! Room was clean and comfortable. Good location for a quiet stay and it’s close to the main square however getting back to the hotel was difficult because most taxi drivers did not recognize the hotel name and said the address did not exist.
A little gem
The hotel was quaint and the location was wonderful. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We enjoyed a great breakfast every morning and the service we received was first class. We certainly recommend anyone planning a trip to Cuzco to stay here. It was a memorable stay and we look forward to returning next time we come back to Cuzco. Our trip was amazing and the hotel added to that experience
Heart place with an amazing view, exceptional servi
It’s actually the third time we came here. The service is beyond, as we arrived and the room we had first, was downstairs, but they immediately changed it to one upstairs with a better view over cuzco...also the fullfilked all requests and wishes we had. Exceptional!!!
Hidden Gem where you feel the colorful love
We had an amazing stay at this beautiful gem. The location is great, super silent during the day and night, but only a few walking minutes to the San blas, plaza de Armas and other beautiful streets and places. The breakfast is outstanding and leaves no wishes open! Rooms have a nice few, super comfy beds and hot shower with good water pressure. The service and reception is very friendly and helpful with all request you have. We already booked again!
Clean and friendly hotel
Very friendly staff. The rooms are very modern with walk in showers, USB ports in the walls, and comfortable beds. The hotel is in an older building with a beautiful inner courtyard. This makes the rooms odd shaped and each one seems unique in size and shape. We were in 2 different rooms, before and after our overnight trip to Machu Pichu. Be warned that the hotel is about 3 blocks from the main square and it is all uphill. The hotel is on a pedestrian only street, so you will need to haul your luggage about 1/2 a block to get to a cab. However, the quality of the hotel makes it worth the walk.
Excellent all round hotel
well this hotel is very nice .
I can`t say anything bad about the hotel. and my next vacation i will of the Retablo Hotel
Good location for Cusco's best preserved Inka site
You have to be prepared for steep climbs - El Retablo is part of a mountains chain of hotels - which is fine but the lack of control on the heating is not good for south facing rooms. Also a lot of food is out for several days of breakfasts, when there ar few guests. Freshness of food is being compromised by too much selection. Good artistic decor did not disappoint but nothing done about heating, other than a different room on our second visit.
Great place to stay in Cusco
El Retablo was wonderful! We stayed there 2 nights and had a great experience. We had a trip to Machu Picchu planned the next day and had to leave at 3:30 in the morning. They made a box breakfast for us to take on the trip and we really appreciated that. The staff were friendly, the breakfast in the courtyard on the last day was delicious and the room was cozy and clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for somewhere within walking distance to the historic district.
Great hotel next to many restaurants and plazas
El Retablo itself was very, very nice. The room was very beautiful, quaint, and was very clean. It was modern but still held the authentic vibe of Cusco. No refrigerator in our room, but other than that it was great. The breakfast was THE BEST BREAKFAST we’ve ever had at a hotel. It was free from 6-10am and had a basket for donations. The best crepes, omelettes, yogurt, bacon, eggs, and juice you can ask for; it was fresh. It’s located just down the street from a few popular plazas with restaurants (expensive and inexpensive both). The cathedral is just down the road as well within one of the plazas. Highly, highly recommended.
Beautiful hotel , nice place to stay, good breakfast and really clean
Loved this place!!!
El Ratablo was a fantastic hotel! Check in service was great! The bedrooms are decorated so cute and the bed is super comfortable. The showers were very nice too. The breakfast is delicious and has lots of options buffet style or you can request a fresh made omelette or a crape. They also have a happy hour every night with live music. The sitting area is beautifully decorated with traditional Peruvian retablo style. They allowed us to leave our luggage when we did the 4 day Inca Trail and had it in our new room when we returned. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! I highly recommend!!

Beautiful and cozy Hotel
My husband and I arrived around 8:30 for check in - reception was warm and welcoming especially after a long day of hiking in Machu Picchu. The hotel is down a narrow ally so, away from honking horns of the busy streets. Love all the paintings that give this hotel life. The room was colorful and lovely decorative accents through out. Room was warm, bed was very comfortable, bathroom clean and shower warm (a must after long day). Next morning we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast with a variety of options to choose from. Although our stay was short (1 day) we great enjoyed our stay and would choose to book again. ** There is a daily happy hour that we were not able to take advantage of with live music - sad not able to enjoy the court yard more **
Groovy spot!
Great design of the rooms. Breakfast was great. Also, very good location for getting to the local attractions.
Loved It!
We came back here after finishing the Inca Trail 4 day hike and a night in Aquas Caliente. Our bags which we had left were in our room and the staff greeted us by name. They also kept our bags secured on our last day while we roamed Cusco. Breakfast is solid and tasty! Great place to stay!
Wonderful Experience!
The staff was outstanding! Extremely courteous and committed to going above and beyond to make our stay wonderful! The hotel itself has a lovely atmosphere and the location is very convenient to the main plaza area. We will stay there again if ever in Cusco!
delightful hotel
I like the decor of the hotel, including the reception, restaurant, room and room terrace. It's artistic with a local flair. Thoughful choices of amenities and cleaniness have made it a pleasant stay.
Would stay again in a second
Excellent hotel; very comfy beds, friendly staff and super breakfast which sets you up for the day. Always felt safe and relaxed. Would definitely recommend (and alresdy have to people) as it's a fantastic hotel in a great location.
This Hotel is so nice, it caused me write about it
I'm usually too lazy to actually write a review, but I actually had a really pleasant time in this hotel. The rooms are modern and clean. The bathroom and its appliances are clean and in very good condition. The breakfast is good (very good if I were to apply US standard ;) and the overall atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. The staff is very helpful with a better-than-average English knowledge. On top of all that, there's happy-hour in the evening with a live musician (when I was there, it was a guy who was pretty good at the guitar)! This Hotel is the ideal place if you want to relax for a few days after intensive traveling and sleeping in a different place every night.
Beautiful hotel and awesome service
Amazing facilities, great nightly entertainment and good breakfast
this is a new and very pretty hotel. The hotel rooms are spacious, clean and the service is breakfast. Definitely the best hotel I stayed in during my entire time in Peru.
Just great
Great service, everything is brand new and comfortable, near Plaza de Armas. Very good breakfast and friendly staff. Just avoid rooms in the first floor if you dont tolerate noise.
A lovely hotel
The staff was, in a word, wonderful. They went above and beyond to make the stay great. The artwork is beautiful. The breakfast was great. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. One note. It's a pretty steep three block walk back from the plaza.
Feels like a luxury hotel without the price.
This little gem is tucked back in the nice side of town down some narrow street. From the moment we walked in, hotel staff made us feel welcome. The guy that greeted us grabbed our bags and dragged them up two flights of stairs to the room. He showed us everything in the hotel including the little courtyard. Rooms were spacious with a gorgeous view of the city. The beds were super comfortable and there was so much detailed artwork everywhere. We only stayed one night and wish we were able to stay longer. There were no complaints from my wife and I.
Excellent hotel considering the price
Amazing service and helpful staff. Like staying at a premium hotel but still relatively cheap!
Excellent stay
Hotel is very modern, with unique Peruvian decoration. Facilities are as a 5 star hotel. Breakfast is excellent. You just need to be aware that there is a steep climb (though not to long) from Plaza de Armas.
El Retablo is a brand new, quaint little boutique hotel with interesting art, great comfortable rooms with fantastic views over the city of Cusco and Plaza de Mayor. The service and breakfast was wonderful. Each room had handprinted ceilings and was equipped with local art. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. The hotel is located 4 block from Plaza de Mayor. Laundry service is on site but can also be found nearby. Great restaurants are just blocks away. Although the entrance to the hotel is located in an alley, the security service is great and their monitoring cameras cover the entire alley. Security guards are out there to great you and make you feel safe. I am happy to be one of the first people to have stayed at the hotel and would highly recommend this hotel to others visiting beautiful Cusco. Thank you El Retablo for a wonderful stay!
Great experience
Incredible place. Extremely comfortable and breakfast was amazing.
El Retablo es un hotel perfecto para quedarse. El personal es de lo más amable y la decoración es preciosa.
This was an incredible place to stay in Cusco, I loved every part of this hotel! The atmosphere and aesthetic is beautiful, the colorful paintings everywhere really brighten the hotel. The breakfast is exceptional, particularly compared to other experiences in Peru. Finally, the hotel is conveniently located just a few blocks from the plaza and San blas.
