Trip to Cantabria & Bilbao
Excellent location, nice and quiet, yet accessible to the beach and mountains. A short ride to the boat stop, makes it an easy boat ride to santander. Highly recommended, especially when a family run business tries so hard to please.
Very nice people good stay everything you need ,, nothing to much trouble
Great family run hotel set in peaceful location
This was our first stay at El Abuleo on route to Santander Ferry from the Cadiz region. Set in a very quiet location and only 15 mins to Santander. We found the owners ver welcoming and our room was very comfortable. We ate locally and enjoyed a three course meal & a bottle of wine for 34 euros! The buffet breakfast was delicious - home cooked produce, the tortilla and home baked cakes were particularly yummy. Unfortunately we did not use the pool/spa. We would definitely recommend and will most certainly make a return visit.
Well appointed hotel in a quiet location
Once you have found this hotel, the experience is all pleasing in this family-run establishment. Charming hosts make you feel welcome and, between them, speak French, English and, of course, Spanish. The rooms are motel-style, but very well-appointed. We were particularly pleased that the heating was on and the room cosy on a chilly evening. Breakfast is supplied, but there was nowhere close by for dinner. However, our host jumped in his car and we were able to follow him about 5 kilometres to a good fish restaurant by the sea. Parking in front of the hotel appears to be safe as it is located in a residential and fairly rural location. We will certainly stay here again, especially before and after trips on the Santander ferry.
Peace and quiet near Santander
A delightful hotel chosen as a result of reviews. We were upgraded to a suite as the original booking could not be fulfilled. Super helpful staff and we managed to communicate in French! English speaking sister in the morning was more than helpful, supplying us with menu translations and many useful Spanish phrases. Comfortable bed, loads of hot water, excellent breakfast and very reasonable price. Great restaurant within walking distance in the village - can't remember the name but it's the only one - 9€ 3 course meal and a MOST acceptable 4€ bottle of white wine. A superb start to the holiday away from the madness of the city, 2 minute drive to the motorway to head south in the morning. Highly recommended.
Truthful
Enjoyable local facilities limited. Was not explained breakfast buffet layout and missed items which had been laid out on the bar top and not really where you would expect them to be as a result they were overlooked and we at first thought it was rather a poor selection later finding otherwise,
Very welcoming hosts.
Nothing was too much trouble. Several suggestions provided for restaurants in the evening. Breakfast was a feast, tables groaning with self service food. Staying 2 nights on the way back.
No volvere
alles Bestens... gerne wieder, nettes Personal, sauber

Nice hotel but let down spa experience
If you are thinking on booking to enjoy the spa services ... don’t. It is a harsh comment, given this is a small establishment with very nice people and rooms. But the spa is simply lacking, small, not maintained and not working. The water jets were barely noticeable (when they worked at all) and the water was cloudy. The place would have done better to have a steam and dry sauna instead of offering what is a too small a crowded lacklustre experience. But, that said, the large rooms are great with nice comfy beds and views and the hotel is located not far (by car 15min/7km) from beaches or Santander itself. Breakfast is copious (this is Spanish style so you will have cakes, cheeses and cold meats, nice breads and olive oil/tomato). I am always a little disappointed when the orange juice is not freshly squeezed as it was the case. You can find cheaper options with similar rooms/services so it is the spa premium that simply leaves a slight sour taste as it is just not up to standards.
